So running stock OPSS28.65-36-1 feb first update US ROM on Verizon. Ever since I updated, my phone will go black (usually after turning screen off not while using it) and won't turn back on. I have to hard reboot AND wipe cashe in TWRP in order for it to boot. Otherwise it sits as the first start splash screen and doesn't start the animation. I am rooted and as long as I reboot it every 2-3 days I'm good. Any suggestions?

Question.
I was on 4.0.4 and the phone started freezing on me. Just freezes and becomes completely unresponsive. To reset I have to pull the battery. Now this had happened about once a day for the last week, but today I had to pull about 12 times. Now 4.0.4 was working well until I tried to go to 4.1.99. That was too laggy and buggy so I restored my nandroid backup. So for the past week I was living with the occasional battery pull.
Tonight, I tried to go to 4.1.9999, and now it freezes on me during the initial sign in process, "SIGNED IN! SLIDE KEYBOARD BACK TO CONTINUE". It does not get past this screen.
I'll do a Nandroid restore to get operational, but that level of operability was pretty weak.
I have AmonRa's recovery, but I only did one wipe prior to the two flashes.
ADDITIONALLY, I try to get to the recovery boot screen now after I pull the battery and the phone wont let me. Still goes right onto the Welcome to TMO G1 Android screen, where it proceeds to lock where I mentioned previously.
Any ideas?
****. I get an ERROR PERFORMING RESTORE! TRY RUNNING 'NANDROID-MOBILE.SH RESTORE' FROM CONSOLE!
The **** has hit the fan!
As of this moment, I can't do a Nandroid restore, and I can't get past the above mentioned slide keyboard back to continue screen. How bad is it?
No. You're not bricked.
When you say you came from 4.04, did you put the htc image and the cyanogen rom on? or did you just try to upgrade?
HTC image first, then the ROM. I wiped first, but only one wipe.
As of right now, I have a phone that won't load beyond that screen. Nandroid wont let me restore.
Help, please?
wipe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I did. No help.
Wipe, reboot and this is what happens:
HOLY CRAP IT WORKED!!!
thanks guys... lets see its functional at least now.
It says its running 4.1.9999... what do I have to do now?
Your done as long as it's working good.
It's not. I have the same problems. Phone freezes at completely random moments. Same ****.
Phone worked well for a short time, then performance degraded again. Now its back to the same. Freezes almost instantaneously after a reboot.
go to recovery
(go to console)
fix_permissions
when done
type
reboot
wait for pause..
and it will reboot!
that booted me into a blank black screen after the ANDROID boot screen. Frozen again.
I rooted my Cellular South Hero and installed Fresh Hero 2.3.3. Everything was working great for a couple weeks when all of a sudden after ending a call, it started rebooting continuously. I get the HTC logo and the phone vibrates, then a few seconds later, the screen goes dark and it starts over. The bad thing is, it does the same thing in recovery mode. Recovery will start to boot, but then it reboots. The only mode that will not reboot is the one where you hold VOL UP (not sure what it's called). I tried clearing user data by holding Home and Back, but this didn't help. At first, when going into recovery, it said the MISC partition was full. That went away after I cleared the user data. Not sure if it's relevant, but I thought I'd mention it. Please help!
sorry about the double post. can this be deleted?
I cannot get my phone to boot. It started when I was installing updates from the Play Store. It suddenly rebooted in the middle and it hasn't made it past the boot animation since.
When I try to turn it on, it will go through the boot animation and then end with the Verizon logo. The screen turns off afterwards. If I leave it alone, it eventually reboots itself again.
I've had this happen a couple times in the past but it always recovered after a couple of reboots.
This is an unrooted phone. The only sideloaded app installed is SwiftKey Beta. It has that latest 4.4.2 update. The battery was ~50% when it rebooted the first time. It's set to use ART runtime. I've tried clearing the cache from the bootloader AND from fastboot. Neither helped. I really don't want to restore to factory defaults if I don't have to. Advice?
SOLVED: My solution in 3rd post.
TL;DR: Reflashed stock system partition. Turned on and plugged in overnight. Hard reboot via holding down power button for 7-10 seconds. YMMV
You mention Unrooted, does that mean you've never used SlapMyMoto/RockMyMoto/etc or MotoWpNoMo?
If so, and you don't mind re-writing your /system partition (putting it back to stock), you can try option 2 or 3 on -> http://mark.cdmaforums.com/MotoX-ReturnToStock.html . Option 2 will definitely not touch your data/apps. Option 3, if you follow EXACTLY will also not touch your data/apps.

Thanks for the reply, Mark.
I actually tried flashing the stock system partition last night shortly after I posted here but it didn't work.
However, I left it plugged in and turned it on once before I went to bed. In the morning, it was still stuck after the boot animation so I held down the power button for about 10 seconds to hard reboot it. I went to brush my teeth and get ready for work and when I came back, the phone had booted up all the way! Reflashing the stock system partition may have helped but I can't be sure.
I've seen this happen before but I think it was after I switched to ART and my sister's Dalvik Moto X doesn't do it. I'll be switching back to Dalvik after this scare.

Art is still "experimental" and not all apps work with Art.. so.. Its best to stick with Dalvik for now.

Hello all, this is my first time posting here, and I hope that my problem isn't permanent, but this morning my phone started to act strange. I reverted back to stock yet everything is still the same. Long splash screen time, and very laggy, very unresponsive recovery/UI when the phone is on. At first i thought that I had done something in my pocket on accident, so I clean flashed Chroma, my daily driver, and ElementalX. After rebooting from recovery, the Google splash screen had stayed on for about 20 seconds, compared to the 5 I had been seeing till today.
Now, when the phone actually booted, I was getting random restarts, screen becoming unresponsive along with the buttons. After setting up the phone, every app I tried opening would hang at the splash screen, like Hangouts, and would immediately stop responding, and eventually restart the phone.
TWRP also would freeze and the screen would lock on its own. When trying to swipe to unlock, the slider would freeze and behind it was another lock slide, which wasn't accessible. After reverting to stock, with TWRP once again, the boot and recovery still take 4 times longer than what they used to, and my phone is very sluggish to start. Has anyone else experienced this?
Currently on TWRP 3.0.0.2, stock 6.0.1, MMB30W image.

Flashed latest TWRP through fastboot, Google screen took 20 seconds again, TWRP started off fine, then froze after locking

You reverted back to stock. I assume you used a custom ROM. When you were unencrypted than stock forces encryption. That encryption process may last a very long time and depends on the amount of data.
You could think of wiping and formatting all partitions and do a factory reset.
Will try that soon, thanks ? completely forgot about encryption.
Hello there,
I've just found my old GT-S5300 from back in the day, and I tried turning it on to eventually use it again.
The issue is that when turning on, I get the usual "Welcome to GT-S5300" screen, and it tells me to "Touch the Android to begin"; when trying to do so, my phone doesn't let me go to the next screen to connect to Google and all the miscellaneous steps that come later. The touch screen does react, I can change the language/type a number in emergency call, the Android flashes when I touch it but it doesn't let me go to the next step.
I have tried factory resetting/wiping cache & data but nothing does it, I keep getting stuck on the same screen.
I even tried flashing a custom ROM and the stock ROM, but it seems my phone can't read the SD card I insert in it, I don't know why (32GB, works on other devices).
I have CWM Recovery installed so whenever I go to Recovery mode I have the CWM Recovery menu which appears.
Before burying it in my closet, my phone was indeed rooted.
Do you have any idea if there is a way to use this phone again? Thank you!
