Hello,
I would like to follow the procedure for customizing the splash screen as described here
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Trinity_SplashScreen
At first, I didn't know where to get the program ROMUpgradeUt.exe, then I found (quite difficultly - sometimes the obvious for one is so obfuscated for the other one) that is contained in any ROM image. And that any ROM image is an archive. Well, I downloaded 2 Dopod ROM images, renamed them from .exe into .zip (and .rar) , but neither WinZIP, nor WinRAR is able to open the archive.
I remember doing it, could you please help with this issue ?
If you have any other advice on how to customize the splash screen(s), I would be very grateful.
Thank you all.
Please, could somebody help me with this ?
It is not clear what you want!
You should not be renaming any .exe files to .zip or .rar.
Try right clicking on the .exe file (dopod rom downloaded) and if you have winzip installed you will have a winzip menu in the context sensitive menu. - Choose Extract to - and extract the contents of the .exe to a folder.
You also will have extract to as an option on your right click menu if you have 7-zip (free) installed.
Once you extract the ROM you will have all the ROM and upgrade files. You can Now delete the .nbh file (the ROM) and replace it with the splash ROM .nbh file that you created using the instructions that you are following. (Use the same file name to be sure).
Now use the RUUtility.exe to flash your splash
Hi, thanks for the reply. I remember that last time I did the same operation I had to rename the file. I might be wrong. Anyhow, I'll try to do as you said.
Thanks again.
im trying to flash paragon rc5. i follow the instructions, but when i go to choose sd card... and click on paragon.zip as file to use in clockwordmod recovery manager, it loads okay, then says replacing recovery manager and reboots. what did i do wrong?
To flash rom you should boot into recovery, select ingersoll zip from sd, choose zip, select parogon, confirm, done
Well when i do, it acts like its going to install, but then says "replacing recovery manager with clockwork..." then exits and reboots into the normal recovery screen.
Each time i get into recovery it is the normal one. I have to go to reinstall packages to get to the clockworkmod one. Something tells me thats not right.
Could this have happened because i installed rom manager and it didnt say i needed it?
Sounds like you are flashing an update.zip to get clock work recovery. i think you need to confirm you downloaded the correct file
What happened was i installed rom manager, got recovery manager through it, then downloaded paragon and its update.zip file. So am i basically flashing the recovery manager right now?
Sounds like it, are you on stock?
Paragon rom zip should be like 170mb in size
Rooted, but otherwise stock. Have already wiped all my data on it in preparation.
What im trying to do is this- have update.zip and paragon.zip in main internal sd folder. Go into recovery---reinstall---then it loads clockwork, then go to from sd---choose--- and if i pick paragon.zip it still does it.
let me clarify this, basically you do not need rom manager here.
1. download the update.zip and put it in your sdcard root folder;
2. download the rom file (170mb one) and put it in your sdcard; not necessary to be the root folder;
3. suppose you are on the stock rom; shut down your phone and use key combo to get into recovery mode;
4. apply the changes (i remember it is the second option), you may need to do it twice. you should now be in the cwm;
5. use the menu in the cwm to browse and install the rom file
6. reboot your phone. done.
Boot phone up normally. Delete paragon file you have. Redownload. Like I said the file should be like 170mb.
Update.zip goes in the root folder? Where is that? I couldnt find it anywhere....
The file is about 170mb. I know thats correct, im thinking since i had already installed cwm i moght have screwed up.
when you select reinstall packages you should go into green recovery/clockwork recovery.
If that works boot phone, open rom manager, select install rom from sd, select paragon
check the attached file.
Thats the update.zip i have. Now where do i put the damn thing?
Your internal sd card. Dl to phone, go to my files app, open dl folder find file select copy, click paste. Should now be where you need it

Im going to let my battery charge and then try it. Will post results tomorrow morning. Thanks for all the help guys!

Sorry, I didn't mean to step on your toes. We all posted at the same time.
Got it all up and running. Works infinitely many times better than it did stock. Got a gps lock in about 5 seconds. Im loving this phone again.
Sry for my poor English. This is for ppl who flash RUU-AU-OPTUS rom mainly to get S-OFF, then wanna flash back the rom they were using before they patching the AlphaRevX.
Here are the simple steps:
1, get the rom.zip from another RUU*.exe, i mean the one you want.
2, unzip the rom.zip into many img files
3, delete the hbootXXXX file. and if you want keep clockworkmod, delete recovery file as well.
4, use 7-zip to add all those files into a new .zip file (no winrar, 7-zip only)
5, rename the new .zip into the PG32IMG.zip , copy into sdcard, reboot into hboot and flash.
6, remember do a factory reset, cuz the AU_OPTUS rom will leave some funny area settings and data in the phone.
edit: sry i missed, goldcard is a must!!! make your sdcard a gold card b4 doing all these. thx 007!
Hi, tried this method just now but nothing happened.
Tried flashing it like you described as PG32IMG.zip it looks like it is running the flash but no change after reboot.
Tried also with recovery (install from zip) but unfortunately doesn't work also.
Am i forgetting something in the process?
Your missing goldcard...
This is also explained in the downgrade guide in this forum
Always something missing . Thanks.
didnt you just forgot to make changes to some specific text file as well?
like erhm, removing last line of it?
like erhm...
hbootpreupdate o.0?
just a wild guess

Hey, thanks for posting here. Here is v20b : http://www.lgmobiles.com/gsm/download/P970 V20B(Gingerbread Version).rar
We don't have it for N version. I saw the russian forum and wanted to ask you about howvyou managed to root v20a before this method.

this method is working just v20a(attachment patched bin file) right?
Where how I convert .kdz to .bin file?
I know russian very well.So i shortly translate all procedure done here.
They patched original 20A bin file , changing system recovery.img with clocworkmod recovery.img touch version.
Download 20A.bin extract it,and put somewhere in your computer.
and below there is a CWM flashable superuser.zip.
Download it and put to your Sd kart.Do not extract.
Then simply flash that patched 20A bin file with smart flash procedure posted here from radkor
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1448803
After finished flashing with smartflash tool go to cwm recovery and install superuser.zip
and you get rooted original 20A ginger.
Nice option for flashing and rooting
but we do not have 20N bin file yet.
we have only indian version 20B bin file, redpik posted it above
Thread moved
Unless it's a ROM or kernel you've created yourself, this doesn't belong in Development.
Doesn't SmartFlash auto erases all user data (factory reset at first boot)?
Okey... Maybe, tomorrow I will be a version (.bin) V20N
Sorry for my English

Ok. Let me try to understand this. They replace "system recovery.img" which is reside in the original rom bin file with "cwm recovery.img" (where to get this file?) and then flash it using smartflash tool. So after reset by smartflah, cwm is already in the phone installed. Then all is easy, proceed to install superuser.zip, etc..etc.zip.
How is it possible to obtain root by inserting cwm in the rom while cwm itself require root to run? Also, what's the "system recovery.img" that got replaced. Is it important?
Please investigate more. Need more info on how "patching" is done too. I don't understand russian.

I guess you need to investigate more how android works. Flashing recovery image with the whole system in a bin file makes cmw part of the "original" firmware so,like recovery that only can erase all this one can read/write in the system files. Sounds normal. I read on Samsung forums that they get root for latest versions by flashing a patched odin file and then a su zip. I will try it

Then we can say that this is universal method as long as cwm can be patch into the rom. Finding exploit is not necessary anymore. So, what's the function of the file replaced in the rom. Is it the original lg recovery method which is not available anymore if this we use this method?
Thanks for the explanation, I wonder why it hasn't be use before, maybe because lack of rom file in bin format?
Edit: downloading rom in your link, pls post how to proceed if you get hold of it.

to get the files out of a kdz: grab them while someone is using the KDZ program to update their phone. The files are extracted and put into "C:\ProgramData\LGMOBILEAX\Phone" but as soon as the program detects no phone the entire directory is blown away. Too fast to grab the files. So either you update for real (in which case you have the time to grab the files) or you create a symbolic link between the C:\ProgramData\LGMOBILEAX\Phone folder and another folder you create say name it C:\test. What happens is that files get extracted and then \phone folder deleted when no phone is detected but the files remain on the \test folder. So you get your files which are a "model.dll" file (in p970 case i guess something like lgp970.dll) and a .wdb file which is the firmware. How to proceed though to tinker further with the .wdb file so as to get bin file and baseband still elludes me
I bet our rom cooker knew how to unpack and repack. So, anyone?

update: doing some research and it seems to extract the bin files you need lgutils and the .dll file you get from the kdz extraction but I am not at home to look into it any further.

hi guys i am running cm7.2 nightly on my captivate and i want to create an odin flashable firmware of cm7.2 rom on windows xp for backup purpose please give me a full tutorial on doing this
I believe it isn't possible. I was asking around for ICS and from what i gathered it isn't.
Two things you could do.
1.download the newest nightly that you want to base it on.
2. Use Root Explorer and EXTRACT ALL.
3. Then go to the extracted folder for the nightly, and delete out the SYSTEM folder.
4.Now MAKE SURE you have your phone set up EXACTLY how you want it to look like. Reboot the phone once that is done.
5. Now with root explorer navigate to /system and long press on the system folder. Choose COPY
6. Navigate to the extracted folder (which should be like sdcard/speedsoftware/extracted OR something like that) and go into the folder where you deleted out SYSTEM folder earlier. Now long press and choose PASTE.
7. Back out until your back at the extracted folder name, long press on it and choose RENAME. Pick the name you want it to be. (I usually use something like: CM7.2RockRattRedRemixThemed02-10-2012).
8.Long press on the name again and choose ZIP THIS FOLDER.
9. GO TO ZIPPED FOLDER.
10. Move the zipped folder to your sdcard, reboot to recovery and flash it to make sure it works.
11. If it worked just copy or or move that .zip file to your computer for backup.
Or I can upload the one I have created so you can see it and test it out. I have made some other changes so it is partially already themed, has the theme chooser. apk File I use instead of the stock theme chooser .apks that come with the original cm7. I use zip themer to set up certain things so they are automatically themed when just flashing the build i created. Hope this helps you get an idea of a pretty bazsic way of making your own cwm flashable cm7 rom already personalized. Oh I also delete of some of the apps that come in cm7 and just put my own personal apps into the system folder so I already have them built in.

thanks for your effort and reply but i want to create odin flashable fw not cwm, i know how to create cwm flashable rom, but anyway thanks for your reply
You could DD'ing a back up of all partitions and then tar'ing it, then flashing it in ODIN
Aren't the partition blocks different on AOSP?
Yess, but you can look them up then dd them, and DL the pit with heimdall, and create an ODIN FW flasher
Boot.img vs zImage. Way around?
decompile the boot.img and grab the zImage from the decompiled boot.img
