modem firmware revisions for xt1806? - Moto G5S Plus Questions & Answers

i've had 4 or 5 different motorola smart phones, and usually the xda forums for each had a collection of NON_HLOS.bin revisions as new updates come out, but i haven't seen that here for sanders, xt1806.
I'm having gps issues, which in my past experience, can sometimes be mitigated by trying different FWs.
Now, i noticed that the official downloadable firmware would change my CID (current: 032, download ver is 050 iirc), which makes me hesitant to flash the downloaded modem out of it without having the specific version that's on there now... (reasoning being that if my CID will be different, perhaps there are other differences between my current and the downloadable, and if i go from bad to worse with the gps i want to be able to revert.)
i haven't yet searched the wider forums for a guide to dumping the onboard modem into a bin file i can reflash via fastboot later for myself, so i dunno if it's even something that is easily done or not, but i will look into that before i go down that road here. (though i won't reject any advice )
that notwithstanding, are there any modems floating about that perhaps i missed in my searching?

Which firmware should I flash on my new SGS?

My new SGS just got delivered today, bought it brand new from ebay, it is unlocked but from orange so there are a few orange bloatware apps like maps etc, not happy with these and want them gone but after trying kies it says my firmware cannot be updated (maybe due to being branded)?
Anyway just wondering which of the unofficial firmwares to flash from the samsung-firmwares website, I understand they come with certain files that may put phone into russian or make it so market does not work properly, some advice on this matter would be appreciated, I'm in UK if that helps. Cheers lads.
Oh and my current versions are
PDA I9000XXJF3
PHONE I9000XXJF3
CSC I9000RAJE5
Hi Davey,
I've just done mine for the first time tonight. I used firmware JG1, but used the CSC file suggested on the main thread firmware thread (cant do a link, forum wont let me).
A couple of notes - I originally tried using a front USB port on my machine and it stuck on file analysis. Worked better when I plugged it in round the back. Secondly, mine showed up on COM5 not 7 as in the guides but it seemed to make no difference.
Good luck!
Cheers pal, jsut wondering have you had any issues with the firmware you used? Russian language? Paid apps not showing up in market? Thanks.
No russian as long as you use the separate CSC firmware (CSC_I9000OXXJF9), and no other issues other than swype crashing the first time I tried to use (restarted the phone, problem solved).
Some apps arent showing up though in market, and I think a root is needed to fix it unfortunately. Not a big deal though - if you're willing to attempt the firmware, than I doubt rooting is a particularly big deal.
I'm in a similar position. T-Mobile UK, galaxy to arrive tomorrow.
I've seen several people complaining about lag on the phone until a firmware upgrade. Could someone point me to a post/website that gives a list of the latest firmwares and a step-by-step guide to installing them on the phone.
Thanks
same here, i have found a few rooting + firmware article from other websites / blogs.
however I only trust the guides from XDAdevelopers

http://www.samsung-firmwares.com (register, login and select "i9000" from the list, the firmware files and guides are on the same page, as are the links to dowload the required tools).
I am on UK T-Mobile and have followed these videos in the order listed and have had no problems doing so:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpWcM44On88
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzFE8-jWku0
The above is to update the firmware, the only thing I did that was not on the video was to use a different CSC file (Not the Russian one, I used CSC_I9000OXXJF9), doing it this way, I had no problems with using Swype as some have reported.
I then applied Paul's Custom ROM R2 from Modaco (Great Job) - the update roots the phone so you do not have to. It is all worth it as now my GPS, Wifi and speed all work wonderfully. the video of how to update the Custom Rom is here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uakGtQKmHNM
Remember to restart the phone after updating the firmware and also after updating the Custom ROM. Also make sure that you have installed the latest version of Samsung's KIES software which contains the drivers needed for the SGS. Also if you carry out this part, make sure you copy the update.zip file to the internal memory card for update to work as it fails to read from the external one.
I did all this on a Notebook running Vista 32bit without any problems.

[Q] Kies Not Showing the Newest Open European Firmware for my Note

I recently purchased a Galaxy Note (Unlocked) and am loving the device. I was reading online that there was a newer open european firmware (LA3) but was perplexed as my phone was saying there are no upgrades for it. I installed Kies (the UK version) and it updated it's self to 2.2 yet it still does not show any newer firmware than what is on my phone (KKA).
Is there a way to force Kies to let me update? or am I missing a step (I never did create a samsung account).
Thank you in advance...
Hi there,
I also recently purchased a Note, and have been spending FAAAR tooo much time lurking on this forum trying to work out whats what with rooting/roming and all things GNote.
Fairly new to all this android malarky and tbh i'm kinda just responding to your question as a way to clarify what, i have, thus far, gleaned from by lurksome xda ways! And as an attempt to stop lurking so much and try and give back some of the understanding xda has given me.
Your question is something I was also rather confused by, but from what I understand - It seems that Samsung rolls out OTA and Kies updates to phones with different CSC codes at different times.
I think it is only the German (DBT) phone which has had the latest LB1 update. I know that my XEU phone is also still on KKA, with no ota or kies updates available.
From what I understand, the way one gets the updates without rooting is through flashing them with a Windows app called PC Odin with the phone in download mode.
Or via rooting your KKA rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360
and then flashing the updated firmware with either Mobile Odin or Clockwork Mod.
In all cases I believe you must download the firmware from either the sammobile site or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
If any (or all!) of that is totally wrong - please someone with greater experience wade in and put me straight, but I just thought that seeing as no-one else had responded - i'd try and make something of all the hrs i've spent lurking on here since i got this phone
Anyhow I'm sure if you just follow the links i've posted to the brilliant work of Dr Ketan - you won't go far wrong
Personally, I've not actually put any of this to the test yet - wanna make sure I really do know my arse from my elbow or in this case - my dalvik from my build.prop before I go messing with a £500 phone....

I appreciate the help to answer your question you are in part correct (from what I can gather). Samsung does issue updates based on CSC codes and there is nothing for the UK CSC code. However they also release what is called open updates. Meaning any carrier in a given country can use a open update for that country. Beyond that they release what is called open European updates that any unlocked phone in Europe can use.
My question is the latest open European update is LXA or LLA or something like that which is farther along than the KK5 I am on. Since it is open European I should be able to update to it I would think. There could be something to the fact that the UK is considered part of the EU so it might not fall under even an open European release and if that is the case than so be it.
I am just trying to find out why my unlocked international version of the note can not seem to update to the latest open European update
Ok, so from the sounds of it - i think your definitely better informed than me on Samsung update protocol
Haven't heard any of that before. I was under the impression that the XEU code was the unlocked open euro code....
Anyway, just thought i'd let u know that i took the plunge today - deciding that I trusted XDA more than Samsung to update my phone
Rooted my stock KKA rom using dr ketans posts as my guide, then flashed the stock LB1 firmware and have since flashed Franco's kernel.....all seems well so far
Although one thing i did notice is that my Antutu score was significantly lower after flashing Lb1, but before flashing Franco's kernel (haven't tested since)....
Anyway good luck waiting for an official update - in my limited experience - I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for OEM's to issue OTA updates...

This is cool. But how to find whether my phone is locked or not?
And what about if we try to involve the Samsung support on this question? I'm also stuck with kk5 and i'm also in Europe.

If you want to know what region your phone is from plug it into the computer after you have installed samsung kies. Once you do if you look at the screen for your phone you will see three sets of letters and numbers. The last one in the string will have your CSC once you get that do a google for where it is from.
If you are on kk5 like me then you probably have a UK code.
An phone is unlocked by default when you import it from Europe as they use a different model for cell carriers than we do in the states.
The simple way to get the latest updates is....change your CSC with *#272*imei# in the dialer pad to the lastest update ( csc)! You don't need root or odin or mobile odin. Just change your country code. This will wipe your phone...but after restart you will get a promt to update your software as soo. As wou are connected to a wifi. There are many post about it...the csc change is described in sgs2 foruns and all over the net. About the country code, please visit sammobile.com and in firmware section you will find detailed info about those codes.
P.S. My note was originaly in XEH ( open Hungary), I'm from Romania so I changed my CSC to Open Germay (DBT-debitel) and after restart i got 2 consecutive updates.
Hope to help, sorry for my bad english

The easiest way to get updates is via XDA. Download PC Odin, and choose whatever Rom you fancy from the first sticky thread in Note development.

[Q] Non textbook problem finding ROM file for GT-P1000

Hi,
I've already been through the thread
[30.03.2012][CF-Root 4.4] J-P/S/Q-*,JV-1KBHIOPQRSTAUV,JVU,JW4 - su+bb+2e/CWM-rfs+ext4
which has links to all the ROM files to be used with CWM in recovery mode (and explanations about their names).
I don't have a standard production phone. Mine has a build name of: FROYO.eng.eunju81.hong.201000831.205407 therefore I can't go by the names of the ROM files which are based on build names like FROYO.xxJP (P obviously referring to "Production"). Does the date of that build have any significance to you experts (Aug 31, 2010)? Does this narrow down what ROM file I can download?
Also, my phone is a pretty standard 512MB, ARM processor phone for that era (I'm guessing, since it was given to a journalist for review who gave it to me when she was done reviewing it). Will I have to use ODIN to flash it? I WAS able to root it (the Chinese made Eroot succeeded where all else failed) and install ROM Manager AND CWM but I then downloaded all three ROM types for my phone (the phone part isn't active I only use the WIFI so I tried the Galaxy Tab ATT, T-Mobile and Verizon but they all gave errors when I tried installing them). I read that it's imperative to have the right file, but with my funky build number, that doesn't seem possible. Am I going to be able to do with this without "doorstopping" my phone? (sorry. I like "doorstop" better than "brick" .
Wrong forum, this is S2/I9100 Q&A, not Tab Q&A which is here (we have device specific fora).
I've asked mods to move your thread, sit tight until they do.
One other thing;
I forgot to mention: Kies updated the firmware to the latest version if that helps you "axe spurts" figure this puzzle out. Thanks in advance!!! :fingers-crossed:

fastboot devices
fastboot oem unlock-go
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
That is the most context-less answer I've had in some time.... "unlock bootloader and erase modems firmware" written in commands.
Device is unlocked, that's why it has lineage...
Now why would erasing modem firmware solve the issue? Was I supposed to blindly erase firmware and do nothing more to solve the problem?
I actually solved the problem by flashing a 26s extracted firmware for my china region x520. I am using g it in Europe. I am not linking the firmeware for 2 reasons: 1. Firmware is closed source/leeco proprietary and 2. Posting might induce non-x520 users to flash and have the same issue I had because of flashing wrong firmware. Even here this firmware is not 100% ok as I had to change a build property for getting calls audio (fluence to none, I think thisbis the VoLTE issue). Anyway, if someonr here has issues, flash your original twrp backup (hope u had one, i accidentally deleted mine from my work pc due to space needs). Or else youre gonna have to find a stock ROM/firmware and bite the bullet for the 1.6GB download. AND IT HAS TO BE FOR YOUR SPECIFIC LE 2 MODEL (e. g. X520, x525 x527, x620... If it isn't you will likely not have SIMs/imeis or call settings will orevent u from having sound due to VoLTE support failure)

Maybe you should do some research about the given commands and what they are doing.
Sounds like you do not understand these commands?
Is there really any difference in the extracted firmware from version 26s to e.g. 21s?
Someone wrote there were no updates in modem firmware since 20s or 21s??

Ok sorry !
Were you replying to me @JamBax?
Anyway, I have no idea about the latest modem images already being in 21S. All I know is most people consider 19S as benchmark for telehpony and VoLTE, since 21S apparently has trouble with VoLTE. I don't doubt 21S is the last one available though, and there might never be a new one. Cheap hardware companies will usually have in-house devs for their custom AOSP, but mostly use manufacturer provided hardware-related stuff (such as modem firmware) or outsource it, so those reach support cycles faster. Granted, it doesn't need so much revisions and polish - the more contained features make it easier to reach its prime. The hardware simply won't improve with code up to a point.
I flashed 26S because it's what I could find in a package that was extracted from the entire so-called "firmware" around this XDA subforum (stock ROM aka manufacturer ROM aka EUI). Saved myself downloading 1.5+GB on a data-capped 3G I currently am using.
I'm likely not gonna try 21S/19s or any other endeavor in this x520 as all I wanted was to have the phone ready and usable as a birthday gift. The present subject will likely never use VoLTE in the life-span of this phone, since we don't have LTE on our village anyway and 2G is staying up for at least 4 more years. They are just happy they can now use Facebook much better than with their old 4.5'', 3y-old crappy Huawei (you know, before they could make half-decent chipsets, even now I still think they suck despite topping synthetic charts for CPU. From personal experience, I still can't trust the performance of any chinese chipset, be it Mediatek, Allwiner, Huawei or Xiaomi, and the only asian-designed thing I trust is, obviously, Exynos).
P.S: the phones were used today to make at least 10 calls successfully. I did not try dual SIM though, single SIMs only. Didn't switch any telephony settings either from the standard menu or the hidden test menu, so I take it the phone is doing 2G calls.
No issues on my side
I have installed Lineage OS 14.1 official, and I have no issues with sim card detection. The signal strength is weaker, but it gets detected at least

Flashing an Xfinity variant, and finding original firmwares

Hey guys, I'm planning on moving my phone to the Pie beta, but I had some concerns.
The biggest one is I can't find an original version of my firmware anywhere: N960USQU1ARJ6
I've found a bunch of ARJ5s, and few ARH6s but no ARJ6 versions.
I'm concerned by this because Comcast was SUPER DRAMATIC about how it had to be their phone and their version of the phone and I don't really want to break whatever thing they did.
Has anyone had any success flashing others? I've tried looking around, but the only thing I've found is if it's not the right version it will break Wifi calling. (Which I rather like)
Thanks
You will have to Odin back to this:
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-note9/SM-N960U/CCT/
Your phone will update 3 times and you'll be back on the latest Xfinity firmware. I have done it a few times.
