When you're in camera app (stock) and you raised the phone a little bit higher, it will automatically switch to front camera.
But I will suggest you turn it off, it's kind of annoying (based on my experience).

did u try to take pics with the half press?
The above advice about setting to half press is good. Also remember that the camera has auto focus so the picture is not taken for a second or two AFTER the button is pressed. So keep it steady for a while after taking the picture.
Also the lens cover on the back of the case needs to be spotless. and also clean the lens cover inside the casing near the top of the battery. Cleaning these makes a big difference. Some folk have actually removed the casing filter, but I'm not suggesting you go that far.

The camera button is a two position switch. Some folk find that if you have it set to full press for taking photos the finger press has to be so hard (or deep) that the camera moves just as you are taking the pic.
To change this so you only need a gentle press half way down:
Enter the camera menue. Tap on the spanner/wrench symbol and choose half press in the Shoot Option menu.
It might be an idea if you posted a pic here so we can see just what quality you are getting.
Mike
Atached,,,90 % of my pics are like this,
I know that this might sound like a stupid question but did you take off the sticker on the inside of the back battery cover. I know I was taking blurry pictures for a couple of hours and finally noticied there was a tiny sticker on the inside of the battery cover. Just a suggestion.
Adrian
I already removed the casing filter.....
Well, that is badly out of focus! So assuming the lenses are clean and no stickers are in place etc then I would take a picture with the camera sitting on a firm surface. Just to rule out the possibility that it's caused by camera movement. If the pictures are still blurred then I would load up the nadavi camera version. If things remain the same then it is most likely a hardware problem. (As it stands there could be a theoretical software issue with the camera using an excessively long exposure time - something it does a bit anyway, but not as bad as to give the effect you have.)
Mike
It looks like its movement plus it appears that the picture was taken inside and is using the auto lighting.... that can easily slow up the camera.

How to stop camera auto focus and capture instantly

Hello,
It seems that the camera focus made for still opjects, as if I am going to take a picure of friends for example, I have to ask them to stay still for at least 3 seconds!!
What can I do to make it take instant shots as soon as I press the button with no delay of the auto focus..
I emaild HTC, they replied that a representative will look into the matter but they never reply..
Regards
I am not a camera expert but I could explain something for you .
Turn off auto focus just make thing worse. It makes the quality of the picture better. This is why some review websites gave kaiser a thumb up for this auto focus feature.
What you looking for here is shutter speed , not turning off auto focus. The faster the shutter speed, the better pictures you can take ( especially for shaky hand and moving object ). Its so last year that picture of still objects are always better since most of camera out there doesnt have a fast enough shutter speed .
Correct me if I am wrong. I did some good reading about camera on Newegg.com when I was looking to buy a decent camera for my girl .
Check out this thread. You can reduce the time the phone takes between focusing and capturing the image.
Thank you aberz, but the delay is only on the auto focus, its the time that takes [ ] to go from gray [ ] to green [ ]
I have a nokia N95, it has it too, as soon as I click the button, the picture is there with better quality from tytn on the same resolution..

The strange thing is that the front camera does not have that delay, it captutures instantly, but of course with very low quality
I will follow up on the thread you mentioned.

Front camera does not have the auto focus feature .
Everybody hope their handset come with auto focus camera, just wondering why you want to disable and give up to use it?
Without auto focus , the picture you take will be a blur photo , especially closer items and object.
don't press the camera button. instead push the middle button on the navigation pad just once. the phone will auto focus and immediately take the pic. it's really working out to be the best way to take the pics.

Auto focus = better picture . Auto focus need ... time to focus . I think the quality of the camera affect the time of the auto focus.
Anyway, I use half press mode and it take about 2 secs to get a snap, which is close to my 4 years old Sony cybershot W7 . Half press mode also reduce ( or even eliminate ) the vibration of pushing button , which improve the quality.
To achieve an good quality with instant shot for moving object , I think thats the job for the professional camera. However, I would like to see how things turn out for you.
Kaiser camera wasnt rated good anyway.

Thank you aberz, appreciate your concern, I am following up now on the thread NotATreoFan mentioned
For taking better pictures:
1. Hold index finger over camera shutter button
2. Hold thumb over center button on navigation pad
3. Use index finger to half-press and auto focus
4. Use thumb to gently press center button on navigation pad
5. Make sure your lens is clean
6. Try to take the picture in between heart beats. Hard at first but you get used to it.
I used to HATE taking pictures with the tilt, and still carried around my old Sony Ericsson W810i as it's 2mp camera always got the shot I wanted. Took me a while to figure out the above. Hope it helps

Then you should buy a SE K810 with BEST PICTURE instead of kaiser
The Best Picture allow you to shot 9 images at one shoot.

you may want to update the camera software to the latest (search on Navdav) and also add the HTC Album the latest version before trying this again. It works like a charm for me.

Really?? I tried it . It works the same way as pressing the camera button. Still about 2 - 3 secs delay. Tilt camera truly sucks.
the camera needs to auto focus. but this way it does take the snapshot right after it autofocused. indoors, of course, will take longer to autofocus.
since I used this function ALL my pix afre much better.
Listen, nobody says the camera on Tilt is on par with a 10 MP Cybershot.....But the pix it takes in daylight are awesome. maybe you need to clear your lenses, or even crack the cover to remove any obstruction between the internal lens and outside (like I did). THAT really make a difference....

Camera auto-focus issues!

Guys I have a big problem. Just received my long awaited Touch Diamond today from Hong Kong and everything seems to be working fine except the camera auto-focus! When placing a finger over the button its normally suppose to auto focus, followed by a press which then takes the picture. But mine doesnt auto-focus. There doesnt seem to be any movement of the lens at all!
Any ideas or comments would be much appreciated. My device details are below.
Thanks
ROM Version: 1.35.707.3 WWE
ROM Date: 05/28/08
Radio Version: 0.93.25.NS26
Protocol Version: 52.26.25.09H
Actually I found that worked sometimes but the manual clearly states that you need to press the action button the camera will then adjust focus and take the picture.
In my one that dosen't work. The camera does not adjust focus no matter what way I try. At the moment when I try to take pictures of objects from about a feet from the camera lense it comes clear. But if I try to take any normal pictures the phone makes noise (plays a software assigned sound clip replicating lense movement) but the actual lense does not do anything.
So are your pictures in focus?
I don't think you can quite see the lens move.

In the camera Advanced setting, p.2 Did you select the Shoot Option to "Touch and Press"?
In my case, I just place my finger on the button: the Touch Diamond recognizes this and auto-focuses, then I can press the button and shoot a nice picture!

Yes it was set to "Touch and Press" by default. I tried the other 2 options too, without luck. Unfortunately my unit seems to be a faulty one. I contacted the seller (x1386) and they said they will repair or change the unit. So I will have to miss the long awaited lovely touch screen for a good few days
Thanks for your replies Guys

It had the same problem out of the box. I tried it after disabling TouchFLO 3D and it still had the same problem.
FYI
For those of you with problems,
If I flip my diamond over and watch the lens very closely, I can visibly see it move when focusing.
Given that there's some sort of actuator in there, it's possible that it could arrive faulty I guess.
Cheers,
ccg.

Camera Driver yet?

I was wondering if there was any sort of camera driver for download yet, ive been looking all over the site and have yet to find one, and ive looked throughout the internet for one, but Im finding old websites not updated since january....pleeease anybody?
Is this what you are looking for?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=355587&highlight=camera
that version is still slow videorendering...
Thanks, it seemed to help out alot in brighter areas but the dark places are still slow... its no problem to me ill just use a dig camera if I need a dark pic... thank you =D
A trick I picked up here with the "new" driver was to turn the camera on. After it comes up, press the power button to put the phone in "sleep" mode. Hold your hand over the camera lens, wake up the phone with the power button, wait 5 seconds and see if the frame rate is a little faster. Goofy trick, but it seems to work.

i found this trick a long while ago. it does seem to work but i dont think it has anything to do with the htc-ca or omnia drivers so even if you dont have them installed, it will work.
I'm using the Laurentius26 V10 ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=416278 ) cooked ROM with the HTCA drivers ( see http://www.htcclassaction.org ) and the camera is performing extremely well. There is no evidence of any lag when there is sufficient light available, it seems to still take a performance hit when it has to compensate.
Rob
ps. that trick that p51d007 suggested is completely bizarre! Even the lag with close up or darkness goes away.
i am using the hyperdragon iiir lite rom with the (recomended) radio 1.65.24.36
and the omnia 3d driver installed in it
and video acceleration is perfect!!
a small improovement i have see also in camera
From my point of view... the camera gets SLOW whenever it has to increase exposure to compensate for the dark areas. The power button somehow fixes te exposure... or disables it.
Point is.. although being 3.0 MP...camera quality is nothing like a 3.0 real photographic camera. So... my question is...
Would picture quality get that worse... if the camera would always shoot with a fixed (lets say 1.0) exposure... and then increase the brightness of the picture via software ?
And to be REALLY bold... and please realize that i'm sugesting with virtually or really NO KNOWLEDGE ... 3D graphics can have its gamma controled... at least in a normal computer... how about showing the camera image on a D3D or OGLES texture... and increasing it "exposure" via gamma control ?
(Am i nuts?)
Yeah that trick works, but the picture is darker and a lot grainier. Also if you point the camera to a bright light source, it "resets" and then when you point at dark areas again, it lags. That trick seems to "initalize" the camera to a dark setting, for lack of a better phrase.

Damn, you're right, it resets when you point it at a bright source...I was all excited for a minute, too...
I wonder if there is a way to make the camera behave that way all the time? I snapped a picture with the trick active and it came out pretty good.

[Q] Button on lower right

Hi there. I just bought my xperia z1 today. And im wondering what is the use of the button in the lower right part of the phone. I tried it in camera but it didnt capture photo. It only turn on the flash for a couple of seconds then it off agin without capturing it. Whats the use of it then?
Is the Camera Button but you don't know how to use it, it have two time press, at the first click it take focus, when you push harder it take the pictures. If you cannot take photos then the button is faulty and you should go for replacement.
You can actually see camera icon on left side of that button so it's quite clear what is for...

It's a two-step button. 1st step is focusing (and maybe flash depending on the setting), 2nd step, if you push harder, takes the picture.
