[L3 E400F] Any way to use SDMerge with STOCK ROM? - Optimus L3, L5, L7 General

The stock ROM is by far the most lightweight one, all the custom roms with gapps end up with the google update and start running extremely heavy services in the background making the performance absolutely awful. The problem is that stock roms have a ridiculous amount of system memory (120mb or so) and come in kdz format and I can't flash them with the clockwork recovery and SDMerge. Is there any way to run the stock ROMs with the expanded storage space and install apps in the SD card instead?

Found this https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2250759 it's working great

[Q] ROM memory vs EMMC vs SD card booting

From my understanding there are roms that can be flashed to the nand memory (wiping out the stock b&n crap), roms that can be burned to the emmc, and roms that can be burned to and booted from an SD card.
Provided I understand that right, ideally I want to have Gingerbread installed on the emmc and possibly either Nookie or the modified Eclair rom on the rom memory..
Am I understanding this correctly? Is this setup possible? If this is possible, could you then burn a THIRD rom to an SD card and also boot from that?
There is a thread somewhere with a script to change boot priorities and allowing you to boot into any OS, but I just want to ensure I fully understand how this thing works before I go attempting to flash 3 OS versions lol
This Nook is just my toy, I bought it the day I saw the honeycomb port so I just want to play around with different rom setups till honeycomb is stable and ready to be flashed the nand memory.
Thanks for any help to further my understanding, it's greatly appreciated.
My understanding is there is no nand on the nook which makes sense.
Roms that flash to emmc actually replace the stock rom image.
There are only two ways to install roms: to internal flash memory (EMC) and external flash memory (SD), so the answer is "no".
However, it should be possible with modified uRamdisk (or u-boot so it would run different init/init.rc, which would mount different partitions/subdirs) to have multiple roms on a single SD card.
ah ok I see...so the there is no rom/nand memory and the stock rom is stored of the emmc? So at most you could have one rom on the emmc and one on the external SD?
That makes alot more sense. Thanks for clarifying guys. I'm about to flash Honeycomb to the emmc, wish me luck ha

[Q] Please answer this noob question

OK, I'm new to rooting and installing custom roms so bare with me here.
1. I've just installed CM6 on N1 and restore my backed up apps to SD card. Now if i install some other roms and restore these apps again. Will they like overlaps and take more space? Cuz we didn't format or touch sd card during installing new rom, only wipe stuffs from phone memory.
2. When i move apps to sd, these app still take some space in phone memory. Is there anyway to move everything completely. I take it doing this might crash these apps right? thankss
I just want to say that installing custom rom on android is a pain in the *&(*(&. There's various method, old and new scattered all over the internet.

Installing custom ROMs on Nexus is as easy as it gets.
Dont take this the wrong way but I've read the faq before i posted. Nothing in there.
No FAQ. In the Wiki there are guides for EVERYTHING, including approximate steps to install custom ROM.

If you want to format your SD card, go for it...
As for moving apps to SD not moving all data, there's two types of this.
Apps2SD, or what Froyo employs, moves the apk and mounts it to make it available to the system. Makes it slower to boot, mount the SD card, and only some apps support it and it you force it (or devs make bad decisions in their manifest) it can break widgets or apps that need to run 24/7.
Apps2Ext, or what most custom ROMs make available (Darktremor) moves the apks entirely to an ext partition on the SD card and this works with all apps, widgets, etc.
In both cases, the app DATA is still on /data, as well as dalvik cache. So for me, 120 apps on my Nexus One is about the limit as I run out of space in data primarily from dalvik cache.
There are also ways to move dalvik cache to SD but there are performance hits.

Nexus One internal storage low

So out of curiousity I backed up all of my apps using titanium backup and installed the new MIUI Rom based on ICS. It kept crashing because for some reason the internal storage filled up. Now I re-installed CM7.1, but my internal storage is again almost full.
My question is, what can I do? I moved ALL my apps to my SD card before I even installed MIUI and before I installed MIUI, I had 170mb free. Actually while typing this I realized that I guess MIUI didn't remove CM7 when it installed or something... hmm. Anyway any help is appreciated, and be gentle this is my first post.
Also android.process.acore keeps stopping.
did you wipe data/factory reset, cache and dalvik cache atleast 3 times before flashing new rom???

Do it 4x, just to be sure
Each apk (program) on your system has a corresponding entry in the dalvik-cache that gets generated from the .apk. If your storage (/data) filled up things are going to be broken in all sorts of ways, including the inability to make the dalvik caches. Since you didn't format between ROMs, you'll also run into permission issues and settings that don't make sense in the new ROM. Cyanogen uses an alternate location (/cache) for the dalvik-cache for system apps, I don't know if MIUI does, but that could be some of the difference in space. Duplicating data for the same .apks in different ROMs could've also filled up your space. It's best to format all the phone partitions to not worry about this stuff. Usually you're safe not formatting /sdcard, but some ROMs are picky. Some ROM install scripts don't format /system and that leads to BIG headaches. If you format all the partitions, then you don't need to worry about clearing user data/battery stats/dalvik-cache because that was already handled when you formatted the storage that contained that data.
tl;dr: Fix permissions after installing a new ROM. If the old and new ROMs are different enough, everything will still be broken because you made the android gods angry. Sacrifice (format) /system, /data, and /cache (and sd-ext if you have it) *before* installing the new ROM and things should be fine.
Haven't used MIUI for awhile, but didn't think it had an ICS version. There is one in XDA, but it is not stable and I think requires blackrose hboot and differnet partition sizes for hboot. It also runs a2sd on reboot i think?
CM7 uses Dark Tremor beta4, that's what I use. It needs flashed after rom and scripts run to move apps. Check out their site
As suggested format all including system and format sd card with sdformatter, full erase and size adjustment on and set up 1gb ext 0 swap
copy sdcard and have a good nandroid first

MIUI has both blackrose and non blackrose version of ICS

right, but one is unstable and he can't keep his ics partition if flashing non ics one
I've tried the latest versions and both br and non-br ones seemed have problem with data connectivity. Some others have experienced the same. Thought the dev's investigating it. But, previous version, i.e. 2.3.2, worked fine.
Try non-br 2.3.2 with 185/85/166 partition layout, that was great.

Having similar issues with ICS MiUI which really seems rather unstable (v2.3.2), and going to flash the latest update from a few days ago (v2.3.9).
Any suggestions on how to deal with some of the stock MiUI "bloatware" that comes with it and seems stuck on the system ROM? A2SD is supposed to be enabled, but unless stuff I dowload off market/play or restore is deemed systems apps, which I doubt is the case, I can't seem to choose to move them to SD card or in this case the "USB Storage" (Sorry, my postcount's too low to post on the actual MiUI Dev thread)
Also, as a sidetrack, does anyone know how best I can sieve through my contacts storage/DB? recently I think i might've accidentally synched with my FB countacts and it seems to have bloated up to 16-18+Mb which is alot from the previous 10-12Mb or less from what I recall. Is there an app or something to help 'manage" it better or do I have to manually go through and get rid of excess contact info on the phone or from my Google contacts list?
Thanks in advance for any advice you guys might have.

[Q] HD+ : Stock vs Hybrid vs EMMC vs SD Card - pros and cons?

I haven't really followed developments since I set up a CM on the SD card (still running from the 2012-12-31 build). For the past few weeks I have now recently gone to the Stock 2.1 build after it opened up to Google Play.
The stock is noticeably better on battery life but I do still prefer the CM interface so I'm looking to go back to a CM build but it's a bit confusing with the different options now available. I've browsed through the various threads but it's hard to get an overall picture because a lot of the posts are trouble-shooting or developmental.
Does anyone have an overview of the pros and cons of the different methods, ie. EMMC vs Hybrid vs SD Card installs?
In my opinion: Hybrid SD > EMMC > Pure SD.
Here's a list of advantages of each in very brief detail, just from the top of my head.
Hybrid SD
Dual-boot option; between stock and CM10/.1
Easily revert to Stock, without a lot of fuss
Significant performance boost over Pure SD install
Less problems over a Pure SD install (i.e. deep sleep, etc.)
EMMC
No stuck at 99% issue, as the stock ROM is completely erased.
Slight/hairline performance boost over Hybrid SD
No SD card required, thus no SD card incompatibilities.
Pure SD
The easiest option to boot between CM10 and Stock.
Easily revert to stock, just by ejecting the card.
No HD+ internal storage is occupied for CM10
However, the Pure SD has more problems when using CM10 over the Hybrid install. For me, the Hybrid is perfectly fine. No problems, and it does not erase the stock ROM (so I can still reset everything, and it'll be like new). If you install on the EMMC, you overwrite the stock ROM. So if you do wish to revert, you need to reflash the stock ROM (not a problem, but a little more hassle than Hybrid or Pure).
I have probably missed a few things. If I remember them at a later date, I will amend this post.
All the best.
One thing I would add to HiddenG's post is the latest CM10.1 ROMs for the HD+ now have phenomenal deep sleep and good battery life. Almost as good as stock. On all platforms, emmc, Hybrid SD and Original SD.
Since I have two devices so I can troubleshoot and help people, I run all three, rooted stock with Hybrid CM10.1 on one device and emmc CM10.1 on another. For just pure use, I like the emmc the best. It is fast, smooth and trouble free. And I have CWM on emmc so no booting to SD for anything on that one.
Sent from my Nook HD+ running CM10.1 on emmc.

Do you know about any of these "Pure SD" roms preferably cm10,2
If you go through the hybrid route and select reset factory settings on the stock rom, does it delete all traces of the cm mod?

Just to update this thread with the times, I would now prefer EMMC > Hybrid SD > Pure SD.
I don't need to dual-boot, but would rather just use the tablet. I don't need to use the stock ROM, plus CyanogenMod provides all that is needed; so I would go with an EMMC/Internal installation. I wouldn't bother with Hybrid or Pure anymore, unless you want to keep the stock ROM and dual-boot.
With EMMC however, you can now use SD cards for media storage, and not have to bother with Cyanoboot/CWM on the SD card - it can now be installed all on your internal/EMMC. There is also a stable version of CyanogenMod 10.1.3 for the Nook HD/+, so I've installed this on EMMC.
Of course, if you prefer anything else, you can chose how to install CyanogenMod. For me though, I'm on EMMC and probably will stay with this method.

A question about CM7

I have this good old Nexus One for a long time and it does what it does .
Now I'am looking for something that is still on CM7 but just with the mail/contacts/calendar and the Play Store in it. More is just not necessary, I think.
When I look in the GApps archive for this Android version can I delete files which are not in relation to these services in this archive?
I tried newer roms and there were quite slow so I got back to the CM rom.
And if everything is slimmed, the partitions could be resized, too. So that there is more data storage available.
I partitioned the 8GB SD Card so that mounts2sd (or any other program for that case) can use this space. But as long I don'T use the other androids and stay on 2 that shouldn#t be neccesary. Just my opinion.
After many ROMs (ICS, JB and KK) installed on my N1 I reverted to GB. Now I use the phone in car (I have the original car kit) for GPS and video recording and only GB have the video camera fully functionally. So this is what I use Silverbot2 ROM
Thanks. But there is no feature list in which I can take a peek?
Unfortunately there is no log list... But try last version from 23.10.2013 and you'll see the features.
Can I "Blackrose" it to make more space for the Data partition?
Resize the System and Cache partition maybe?
Yes, I have 240/10 and rest but i think it´s working and 220/8
