Mi 9 Stock Global 10.2.30 Open VPN Problem - Xiaomi Mi 9 Questions & Answers

Hi *,
I have some trouble with my new mi 9 (and writing in english, i am an old fart please excuse that )
I use an openvpn and pihole on an raspi for routing all trafic for my devices via the pihole and have access to my local resources(home and roadwrrior szenarios). On that mi 9 closing the openvpn app causes in lost of the vpn connection and i had to activate it manualy. Autostart does not work, continious tunnel does not work. Poorly closing all apps include the open vpn app and i do this sometimes...... (i am an old fart, remember )
On other devices (Galaxytab s2 - lineage 16, galaxytab a 2016 - lineage 16 and galaxy A7 2018 with stock firmware) closing all apps will not disconnect the vpn.
Think that this xiaomi taskmanager is a little more agressive?
When i try netguard VPN on that mi 9(github version with host filtering) closing all apps will disconnect the netguard connection but after ~20 seconds the connectin will be reestablished by its own.
Does anyone understand what happens there and how can I solve it?
Thanks for reading Yupp

Hm same config here. MI9 with official OpenVPN Client and as Endpoint (Not really relevant) a OPNSense box. I can start the OpenVPN app and active the vpn, touch to homescreen and do stuff for what i needed the VPN without getting disconnected. I never tweaked the app itself to, for example, exclude it from MIUI power management or similar. It just works with default settings. Do you have some timeout setting in your OpenVPN or are you roaming between WIFI and MobileData? What does the logfile (Client and server) from OpenVPN tell you?

Be sure to set it as an 'Always on VPN' in the settings, and when you turn on the VPN, don't close the app, I mean don't close the app in the task manager, you can just go to the homescreen.

Hm, i never set the "Always on" option to let the OpenVPN Client work in the background. It working here without this option set.
But yes it's important, of course, to no kill the OpenVPN app and let it active in the background

Sorry for late reaction, was a little sick...
maybe i discripted the problem the wrong way.
On the both tablets with lineage 16 and the galaxy a7 2018 with stock rom closing the openvpn app will not matter the connection. Once established/connected it is stable connected no matter the app is running or not.
Same behavior für teambatterybar oder powerline, closing the app on the mi 9 with stock will end the process, on the other devives with lineage and samsung stock closing this apps will not matter the function.

[Q] Global Proxy Settings for wifi networks.

Hello there,
As we all know our Samsung Device does support Proxy Setting for wifi networks but it only works for default android browser. Is there any way that I can use the Internet behind the proxy setting through out the phone (including google maps, gTalk, etc etc) ?? Has anyone here has done it?? I have tried many apps like ASProxy, Transparent Proxy, ProxyDroid, Http Proxy Settings but none of them worked.
Secondly what is iptable module?? does our phone Samsung Galaxy S I9003 has that iptable module? I have froyo XWKB1 firmware. Some of the apps require iptable module to be on the phone.
Many people claim that they are able to use pxoxy setting through out the phone with all those third party apps but not me. Please do reply
Type opera:config in opera mobile url(not in opera mini)
You will find lots of options there including proxy. But i never used it.
BTW this is not development related question.
Sent from my GT-I9003 using Tapatalk
sorry for that, this is only forum for I9003 and I am depressed for that. I dont want peoples who own different phone answering this because I have searched hundreds of forums and blogs, those people claim that they are able to use Proxy Setting with the help of third party apps but not me ... This is only forum where all the I9003 owners hang out. Yes The method that you specified also works. I am also using it but I want to use android market, gTalk, Maps and all the apps.
Greetings
Root your phone and use proxydroid, that thing works globally, has context sensitive profiles and other features...
Oh! yeah! I have rootem my phone deodexed, applied CWM for XWKB1 also but that application didnot work for me. I have a query, have you tried the proxy settings in galaxy i9003 itself or any other phone? the proxy of my college is 192.168.1.100 and port is 3128 but I am not able to run it through out the phone.

I use this program on this phone and my Galaxy Tab successfully with the proxy server at my work place. I use XXKPH with CWM by Skin and root through CWM method using leo's zip. You should be able to find these around here if you want to replicate my config.

Have you tried Orbot? It's not exactly what you want but it's a tor proxy :
Orbot is an application that allows mobile phone users to access the web, instant messaging and email without being monitored or blocked by their mobile internet service provider. Orbot brings the features and functionality of Tor to the Android mobile operating system.
Orbot contains Tor, libevent and privoxy. Orbot provides a local HTTP proxy and the standard SOCKS4A/SOCKS5 proxy interfaces into the Tor network. Orbot has the ability to transparently torify all of the TCP traffic on your Android device when it has the correct permissions and system libraries.

I'm almost sure we have this module in our kernel.
DroidWall is a famous firewall for Android which configure iptable on device, allowing or not selected apps to access network, try it
Solution for global proxy problem on Android devices
Hi all,
I found a setting that worked on my device. I believe it will work for almost all other devices running at last Android 3.3 as this is a requirement for the app SandroProxy. Note that no rooting of the device is required. Try the following steps;
Install SandroProxy
Add your WiFi authentication parameters to SandroProxy. Details such as the domain, user name, proxy address and password.
On your WiFi setting, long press on the SSID and select the "Modify network config". This can be found under Settings>Wifi>[SSID]
Under proxy, type "localhost"
Under port, input the port beign used by SandroProxy, default is "8008"
Thats is
Enjoy

[Q] Proxy Settings ICS

where the hell are the proxy settings hidden in ICS,
I have tried the following: settings...wifi connection long tap.....pop up window ....modify connection...show advanced option....
nothing happens
tried connected and unconnected
used a proxy setting software form the market.......... no success at all
need this urgently to connect to a corporate network..
PS : I have original firmware per update from samsung, no root
------------------------------
ICS really screws me up.....high battery drain, many hangs....forced closes..
my home screens need always some time to load when I come back from an application.
streaming videos are stuttering........my USB/OTG connections won't work or work only sometimes, the WIFI is connecting and disconnecting all the time now the proxy problem
Settings - Wi-Fi - Long klick on your network - "Modify network config" - tick "Show advanced options" checkbox
I hope you do know that Android does not support Proxy, In samsung Models the stock phone browser can be configured to run with Proxy settings, but none of your apps will work with Proxy on a wi-fi network.
This is a reported problem, the thread can be found as below
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=17231
There are several other similar complains, but google at present does not seem to be interested to add proxy support
i'm using AutoProxy app from market. Working both on ICS and GB rom
on GB I could set the proxy in andvanced WIFI settings and it worked perfectly.
I am using Junos Pulse to set up the VPN, this worked fine with my SG2 and my Note.
Now on ICS I cannot get inot the ....advanced settings.... as I have mentioned in my post I know where this normally is to find and I tried to check this option after long pressing the particular WIFI spot, it appears and I check it but nothing happens........
Yes, I know that android has a problem with proxy, thats why I am using JUNOS PULSE . it is an app from Juniper Networks (firewall hardware manufacturer) and it worked fine, but I have to set the proxy IP and Port manually.
Again, I know where those settings normally are, but they stay grey and cannot be used.
So I'd like to ask someone here to verify my finding. Again, can s.o just go to WIFI....long tap your connection, then check advanced settings. Then please control, if this feature is available after saving. In my case it is not...............
thanks in advance for the support
and , of course Auto proxy is not of any use for my problem, also sorry but the stock browsers can never be set up for proxy. In Android only the Connection (in this case the WIFI) can be set up to talk to an fixed IP on a fixed port.
May be it helps if I describe what Junos Pulse is doing: Junos Puls is connecting to the server , establishes a VPN and gives your devise a new IP(internal) and catches the traffic and routes it to the proxy. But this proxy IP and port you have to publish first. This is normally done in Android by setting the advanced settings in the appropriate connection to the proxy IP and Port. Hope this helps
Problem solved. It was a font proplem. I had installed a customized font this caused th proxy settings to be grey. changed the font.
Now I can edit the proxy ip and port.
And my WIFI is working fine on our proxy through the VPN with Junos Pulse
Hey
Sorry for the noobness but I've searched all over for this and I can't find a decent tutorial for this...
I want to connect to my company wifi but it's unfortunately by proxys... I have friends there that have access but they are on 2.3.3 ICS don't seem to get connect.
Can anyone give some light on what you guys configure your proxys manually. I don't know the machine name and all those steps that are needed on the advance settings...
Please and thanks
Conection proxy server
I have the same problem. In a galaxy note 10.1 i can't conect a proxy server. I have set number of port and name of anfitrion Android i can't connect. Can i help me?

Anyone using KDE Connect with this phone + MIUI?

I've had bad experience with KDE connect getting kicked out of memory despite me turning off all the MIUI optimization/battery saver/performance modes and allowing it to start in the Security app. Basically, the app (or rather, the service) would just disappear so that neither notification nor clipboard sync worked. This was on a Redmi Note 2 Prime. The app still correctly worked fine on other phones not using MIUI (actually, it even stays in memory on my ancient Xperia Arc...).
I'm currently thinking of getting the Mi5, but I really don't want to have to deal with apps disappearing from memory again, especially not KDE connect. So, is there anyone who uses the app on this phone and can report on their experience regarding it staying in memory as it's supposed to?
Thanks in advance.
u have to disable battery optmization for it if u want it to keep that running on background. and activate auto-start for that app.
edit.
It's not in my whitelist, meaning it enjoys the same MIUIBattery saver as most other apps. It works fine for me, bidirectional file transfer, remote input, multimedia control. I don't sync battery, calls, sms or notifications though.

Turn off pc apps

Hey guys,
I made a task when i go home and connect to wi-fi to start playing music (and some other stuffs but thats not important) on my pc using unified remote plug-in. The problem is when i quit my home and im disconnected from the wi-fi i cannot use unified remote to stop the music because its loosing connection to the server. Any ideas what to trigger it off? The idea is to stop it when i leave home, but don't know what else to use instead of wi-fi off. GPS and celluar towers are even worse because will trigger it when i'm even further away, and the same problem - server will be disconnected.
Any ideas ?

A very long way around, but Dropbox maybe?
Have Tasker write something to a text file in Dropbox, auto sync it, then use something like autohotkey to monitor newly synced file on pc and act accordingly.
Like I said, a very long way!
I also wonder if IFTTT can trigger unified remote in your case...
If you use Spotify you can configurate Autoinput. If you use another app, you can check the JOIN by Joao apps for info and how to do that. Let me know if you need something else

The join app will let you send commands to your computer, so this is really simple with join. However, you can setup your unified remote to send a command to your ip address. (Dynamic dns is your friend) and the command is just the key seq you want.
Don't use the unified built in plugin for this. Using the tasker built in "browse url" action to browse the following url will send the command
ur://intent/remote:Core.Keyboard/action: text/extra: %text2type/destination: %devic
Protip: find the xda tasker tutorial for using your fingerprint to login to your pc to get the full scoop

Question How to block app from internet?

I'm trying to find a way to completely block a single app from connecting to the internet. I'm playing a mobile game and want to start a new game, but when i delete cache/data it automatically loads old profile when I start it up. This game has no option to change accounts. The only way I can start a new game is if I turn off mobile data, but as soon as I turn it back on my new save immediately gets overwritten.
The only two options I can seem to find is to go into an option that was removed in Android 12, which was go into data saver options, or download some app called "netguard" which conflicts with my current VPN. Is there another way I can block this app from the internet?

by @ukanth. However, it requires you're rooted otherwise the ip tables can't be edited.
Netguard is also no solution for me as I wouldn't be able to connect to my PiVPN if I were using Netguard. Please note that I've no idea what's available or has been removed in Android 12. I'm on LOS 16 (Android 9) and won't "upgrade" for many reasons.
