I get asked a lot how I rooted my Huawei Honor Note 8 so I thought I'd do a basic how to from memory on how I did it. It's relatively easy to do.
You'll need your phone's bootloader unlocked.
The files from Huawei's forums http://club.huawei.com/thread-10828573-1-1.html or https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwyaxIga7s0qc0ZKRGtsdndwV3M/view?usp=sharing
The app is in chinese but has some english on the buttons.
To unlock bootloader:
Got bootloader unlock code with the app on the playstore "DC Huawei Bootloader Codes" (took about 8 hours to get)
Enable USB debugging on the phone & connect it to the computer.
Unlock the bootloader with the program downloaded. Use the first button on the first tab labeled bootloader. Put in unlock code in the pop up box & click ok.
To root:
Enable USB debugging on the phone & connect it to the computer.
Flash the recovery_twrp.img file with the program downloaded. Use the 2nd button on the first tab labeled recovery.
To change twrp into english, click on the 3rd down 2nd row button & then click on the globe button. The globe is really hard to hit! Keep trying till you get it Then select English.
Install SuperSU with TWRP
Should now be rooted!
Question. Is there anything I should do like backup my bootloader or something before starting this process?
benmeroff said:
Unlocking your bootloader will wipe the device; factory reset for sure, and I believe it also erases your internal storage (don't quote me on that though, not sure for this phone), but your OS will remain whatever stock version you had installed until you flash something else.

I did not backup anything.
Ok thanks.. I appreciate it
I have a question, or making a root and unlock the bootloader is associated with a full reset your data and settings that can be done root without losing data?

Hi guys
I unlocked my note 8 successfully . In startup screen show your devives is unlocked and can not be trusted every time i restar the phone is it normal?
Second thing i flashed twrp by clicking on recovery button then after restarted i clicked on 3rd button of second row to change to english but it didnt say click on english
How to enter twrp recovey i tried pressing power button and volume up nothing happened
Plz help
Yuppers.. not trusted cuz ya unlocked it.
Should be volume up & power. You can also do it with the app. The 2nd tab... recovery. Will boot it into recovery too.
You have to click the globe button on the far right to get to the language. It's a ***** to hit! BTW... TWRP has reverted back to chinese a few time now for some reason on mine. It's kind of annoying considering how hard it is to hit that one button.
Questions about the root process
1) why do you need the unlock code?
2) Where can I find SuperSU for honor note 8? Can someone please provide a link?
3) Has anyone succeeded rooting?
Thanks in advance for the answers.
Please Help!
Everything was find, I unlocked the bootloader, installed TWRP, when I flashed SuperSU it bootloops!
Can someone please help.....
I'm not sure why it would be boot looping. I'd flash it again. Might even try a factory reset before flashing too. You're the first I've heard of with that problem. Make sure you're on version 22.

Hi,
I read of the possibility of the root of honor note 8 through oneclickroot, kingroot, etc.
It must first be unlocked bootloader or the software will to unlock?
For unlocking the bootloader you must use to force pay program dc-unlocker?
Thank you

in the app, there is another way to get it. choose not by imei.
write the developer of the app you did not get the code and you want a refund, and pay for the second method. this is how i did it.

Great! Many thanks for your quick reply! I contacted dc-unlocker support and thats what they replied..
Hello, this codes is from factory DB. Sorry, but there not all phones present in this db.
This happens frequently if phone has MEID .
But you can read code by cable, we support almost all huawei.
If reading by cable not acceptable we can do refund.
Im waiting for their next answers at my qustions, what exactly have i do..
I have to download their soft probably and make everything there..
I had no time to check their forum yet, im sure there will be instructions..
EDIT:
Oki so i used DC-unlocker software, received these codes and unlocked Bootloader successfully!
I have rooted both phones already!
I had an issues with ADB drivers on Win10 and on Win7 as well, could not find my devices in devices manager but i have solved it!
TWRP 3.02 with preinstalled SuperSU works fine on B027.. In one of my phones i had B029 so i had to downgrade to B027..
On B029 doesnt work flash command in cmd.. Stuck on "waiting for device"..
Hope this will get the job done.

Remember don't try this unless you don't mind possibly breaking your phone.
Hope this is legit

I do not love Magisk. Can I install TWRP and then SuperSu?
My phone is coming today. I want magisk because I want to use the app to customize.
Yes, that will work, TWRP is key here, magisk or SU is a preference. Grab the full ROM (1.4 GB) make a backup and you are good to go, you'll be able to recover no matter what you do.
Has anybody yet managed to unlock, install TWRP and flash EU rom? My device arrives tomorrow and this is the first thing I want to do.
I tried to unlock but I can't even unlock the phone. Maybe I'm an idiot but it's just too hard to follow this directions and there's also some Chinese involved.
I cant unlock the phone. I guess we need a CHINESE VPN To unlock it.

Seriously? I have unlocked several Xiaomi phones and never seen this. You definitely set up your Mi account and received approval for unlocking via sms?
I have my account all set up. I did not receive an an sms saying I can unlock it. I tried going through the process then I get the IPS error.

I just setup my account last night and received approval, and do not even have the phone yet. You should get an immediate verification SMS, and then a little bit later I got approved.
Don't know why I can't get it to work. I even downloaded turbo VPN to use a Chinese VPN to try to get the code and it would not work

Usually takes about 36 hours hours till you get unlock it through xiaomi.
FWIW,the vast majority of the original Mi MIX handsets that were sold by 3rd party vendors shipped with an unlocked bootloader, same w/the Mi Note2 Global version.
Have any of you checked for an unlocked bootloader?
Good question. Open the dialer, *#*#7378423#*#* should pop up a new system info window, you can verify in it.
...or just try to fastboot flash recovery twrp.img and see what happens.

i just got my mix 2 and had the same problem, use plexvpn and choose the shanghai gateway
Will try that when I get home. I actually got them to give me permission to unlock but now in the unlocking tool it says at 99 percent that the device is not associated with the account or something like that. I try to associate my account in developer options and I get a 10008 error. This is so brutal
That plexvpn did it with Shanghai location! Thank you. Now I will try and unlock and see what the next puzzle brings me!
This is crazy! Just had another problem. Tried to unlock by the unlock tool and now it says "Couldnt unlock. Binding time is too short. Less than 72 hours." UGH!!!! Any help would be appreciated!
You have to wait it out I'm afraid - I don't believe there is any shortcut. I had same issue with Mi 6 and it worked exactly after time had expired. You're nearly there...just a bit more patience!
Hi guys,
Few days ago I succesyfully debranded my P10 vtr-l29 with stock C432B360 firmware. After some issues it went OK. I relocked bootloader and found that in fastboot mode the status is not Phone Locked only Phone relocked. I found that DC Unlocker is able to change this into original Phone Locked (4 credits) so I did it.
BUT after all I wanted to install Intune and outlook mobiel and skype for business. Intune says everything is ok with phone but both outlook and skype is saying that phone was rooted and they will not work
Anybody anything please share some ideas and/or solutions.
Notice: I didn't installed any root for 100% sure. I use stock firmware files.
Thanks in advance

Well, maybe you have an app installed recently, which might work as an auto-root app once you connect your phone to the Internet, for example?

I am wondering if i buy the sigma key for huawei.
I i manage to unlock the bootloader.
(ref: https://gsmserver.com/sigma-pack-3-...urce=dfp&utm_medium=banner&utm_content=728x90)
What are the odds for me to flash boot with twrp / Magisk manager?
Would be nice to get an answer to that before buying this for 129USD.
Anyone have any input?
My main reason for this is to get device certified i playstore and make the cts profile "true" to make gpay working for this phone. (i did this for the mate 20 pro when i rooted that)
So , if sigmakey unlocks bootloader will this theory work?
Wil be happy for inputs from the community an people that know filesystems, boot images, twrp, and rooting...
(i have seen 2 videos online with the "unlocked warning boot screen" that comes up when rooted on a P40 Pro so someone has done it)
regards, Kenneth - Norway

Tried
Did you buy it already and if so are you willing to help me for a humble compensation of course. I have kirin 990 on Huawei p40 5g and i totally bricked it so my only chance lies in Sigmakey and USB (no ADB detects the device, only USB COM 1.0 succesfull, but no connection to push files or boot etc.) Also, are you familiar enough how we should proceed IF you can of course!
First at all.... Do you have the box or dongle?

yes, this phone demo unit directly from Huawei for Review/Media purpose only.
I've just been wondering if I get just unlock the Verizon bootloader for a Pixel 4a 5g (got the phone at a thrift store for 10 dollars only) - the OEM unlocking button is grayed out and I heard I cannot unlock the bootloader. I'mjust wonderingif I can at least do something funny with a Verizon bootloader at least.
Its not supposed to be possible, yet on the latest Android 13 update, my OEM unlock toggle suddenly became switchable after freezing a bunch of carrier apps. The only thing I didn't freeze was Sim tool kit and work config. I've literally done this over and over again with no results, in fact my phone was never even paid off. Yet for some reason, suddenly I was able to just toggle the switch unlock my bootloader and my device which is pretty much unheard of since the pixel 3

So sorry for the late response.
How are you able to freeze the carrier apps on your Pixel? Do you use some task manager?
I used Shizuku, and froze apps with hail or icebox. Also, there's the universal android debloater for windows which is amazing

Hello All, this is my first ever post. I got pixel 4a 5g (2nd hand) and its OEM unlocking option is grayed out. I tried connecting with internet, tried date change trick, tried adb command but nothing seems to work. I am stuck currently. the phone is not career locked as I have been using other networks on the phone. i see so many posts regarding this but could not find any confirmed solution of unlocking OEM. if any one can guide me to the ans? appreciate in advance.
If there are any software to unlock oem? or any other solution based on my problem?
PS: its running on android 13, with May 5, 2023 security update. the IMEI ends with 18292

Insert a SIM card in your device and determine if it's locked to a carrier.
If it's a Verizon SIM lock, :/ outta of luck. Found that out the hard way via looking at XDA forums and nearly wasting time on the device. I plan to sell it to get a Google Pixel 6 Pro.
