MIUI 11 disabled my mic when making calls - Xiaomi Mi 9 Questions & Answers

I updated my phone to the new MIUI 11 and now no one can hear me when I'm on a call. My Viber app works so I know there is nothing wrong with my mic. Is anyone else having this issue?

Do you using some magisk modules like this one: https://forum.xda-developers.com/Mi-9/themes/magisk-dual-speaker-audio-mod-mi9-t3921842, for example?
This module has link on v1 on the OP and it's already v6 exists.

No not using any modules, just the stock ROM

Then don't know You may try to wipe cache/dalvik cache if your bootloader is not locked, clear data for contacts and dialer app or make a factory reset.

I'm having a similar issue. Stock global ROM, just updated and now speakerphone calls play through the bottom speaker with the bottom mic, so people are getting feedback.
Before updating it would use the bottom speaker and top mic for speakerphone, far enough apart.

I also had a non working mic in calls after flashing the MIUI 11 update (ota), but a reboot fixed it.

I've had these issues on MIUI 10 and MIUI 11 (although MIUI 11 is better so far).
What I do is quickly double tap either the mute button, or the speakerphone button. Then they can hear me on the other line. This is an annoying quick fix. Looking for a long term fix as well.

I had issues with people hearing me, found out it was due to messing with voice over lte and wifi calling so I disabled both and calls work fine now.

I'm running into the same issue, although it didn't start happening until MIUI 11.

Guys i fixed this!!! Use sim #2
Okay this annoyed the crap out of me I used China EEA and Global and EVERY MIUI11 stable had this stupid must hit speakerphone before people hear me bug. So I grabbed another sim card and selected it. Accidentally found out if the sim is set to #2 instead of #1, there is no problem!
Just move your sim card to slot #2 instead of slot #1. Don't ask me why it works. I went ahead and selected under settings #2 as primary for calls and LTE but I don't think you need to - it just works in slot #2. FINALLY!!!!

I found I had the same problem. Got my Mi 9 a couple of days ago, updated to MIUI 11 right away and set up everything. I'm off work now and it's quiet so I didn't realize that even though calls connected, no one could hear me.
I went to implement mslezak's solution and moved the card to slot 2, turned on the phone, but then realized I'd get no connection until I called my carrier and gave them the IMEI to slot 2. Didn't feel like doing that then so I put the card back in slot 1 and turned it on. I tried a test call to make sure things worked as they had and for some reason my voice could now be heard.
I'm not sure what happened, if reseating the card in slot 1 made a difference, but things work as they should now and I'm a happy camper. Great phone so far. Have to wait the full 168 hours to unlock but I'll live with that. Hopefully restoring from the cloud backup will return most of what I lose when I unlock it.

Mix 2S with a recent MIUI 11.0.3 update that muted the mic and earpiece during SIM calls. Followed mslezak's solution and it works in SIM slot #2. But unlike thecdn, moving the SIM back to slot #1 broke the mic/earpiece again.

Worked on every MIUI 11 ROM I had and that's basically every variant. Xiaomi.eu, Masik, MuiMix, Hellas, MiRoom, some I probably forgot to mention.

Guys I still have this problem.
The trick with the second sim slot worked for the Global Eu Ron, but after I installed Xiaomi EU stabile now , it didn't work.
Do I need to place the sim in the first tray and then in the second again?
Does Xiaomi know about this bug ?

CM7 - suddenly, cannot make calls anymore

Hi, I have a weird problem: Have been using CM 7 latest nightlies for a while now with BB502 and was quite happy with it. Today after a few calls, I suddenly cannot call anyone and noone can reach me. It says that I am connected but there is no sound, neither through the earpiece nor the speaker. Other people just get "Person you are calling is not available..." - I haven't changed anything! Flashed back to old backups, but does not help. WIFI and Data still working.
Is my phone dead..?
Thanks in advance!!
got the same problem for 3 days now.
but its not CM7, nor LGO2x, its the Simcard. Its broken or its about to brake.
Thank you, good to know that I am not the only person... How did you figure out that it is the SIM card? I tried to remove and reinsert it, but without any success.. Will try another one when I get home.
I also had this Problem today after i inserted another sim card.
I flashed the baseband to 725 and everything is working again.
absolutely not dev related ....
Request a mod to push this to the general section,
also check your Telephony setting if it is switched to unknown instead to WCDMA pref or GSM only)
Did you perform a Factory reset lately? Froze any apps ?
I just had this with ril 0622 gb leaked, changed to 0622 open Europe and good as new.

[Q] N6 - No incoming & outgoing Calls, mobile data gone.

Having my Nexus 6 for almost a month. Things working perfectly in the starting(or after reset), but after two or three days, No incoming calls, no outgoing calls. No mobile data. Cant realy tell it as a mobile sometimes. Wifi is working good always. After reset, it is working properly for two or three days. Whenever it is not working, I am able to see a !-mark near the tower bar.
My mobile always connected to 4G when no wifi.
No Custom ROMS and no root. Plain Android given by google.
Anyone having this issue. Any suggestion?
Go get a new SIM.
Sent from my Nexus 6
I was begining to think i was the only one who had this problem!
Yesterday morning i woke up and to my suprise my signal bar had a (!) it it but it was still displaying my regual signal level.
I switched my wifi of and i couldnt get a data connection just the (!) sign. I got my girlfreind to give me a ring and see if a
call would go through which it didnt it just said that i was unavalible. I then desided that a reboot might sort the problem
but when i my phone booted back up i was presented with the holow triangle signal icon to say that i had to signal. I then
popped my simacard out thinking it could have just been a bit of dust on it. I gave it a little bit of a dust of and popped it back
into my phone and i was given the same no signal and emergency calls only yet it was picking up that there was a simcard inserted.
The day before i had flashed the alpha version of PA so my next thought was that this would be a ROM bug and went ahead and
flashed chroma which i was using prior to PA and i had had no issues with. Held my fingers crossed as it booted up but much to my
dismay i was greated with the same no signal problem but i went into the settings and searched for networks. Three was one of
the network it had picke dup so i tryed to reconnect to it but i got the toast to tell me i couldnt connectto the network and to
try again later. I checked the APN settings and it had automatically grabbed threes APN from the sim card so at this stage i was
completly baffled by them problem.
My next move was to try my sim in my girlfreinds phone and what do you know it worked a charm. As a last shot to check everything
was okay and i was upto date on my bills etc i gave three a ring and they told me there was nothing wrong with my sim and everything
was working as it should be and that it was a problem with my phone.
That brings me to the point i am at now completly baffled as to the problem and slightly angry at the 2 week old phone that had been working
perfectly up until now has suddnely desided to stop with no warning.
So you are not the only one and i expect their are more of us. I am going to flash the offical stock rom from google and see if that does the
trick but im not holding up much hope i feel like im going to have to contact google and find out where the problem lies.

I got this as new nano SIM from the retailer and seems like working in all other mobiles except Nexus 6. Also I can see lot of people having the same issue with Sprint Provided in US. One more Victim replied too.

i reverted back to complete stock using the image from there site to no luck so i relocked the bootloader and took it back to the carphonewarehouse and they straight swapped it for a new one which is working perfectly
My sim died after a month. My calling went out and then only lte worked no 3g. Got card replaced and it works perfect now. I have US Cellular.
I've posted this in few other threads also, but I had also problem where I only had tgt exclamation mark no matter what I did. I solved the problem by waiting like 5sec before inputting my pin-code. If I input my pin code too fast after a boot, it will open my phone, but won't give me cellural network. This seems to happen in every ROM I've tried
Hi,
Solved the issue. Working fine after enabling request for SIM Pin and set my sim pin.
Usually i disable sim pin lock to have uninterrupted boot. But with ROM this is not working.
Enabling SIM pin request solves the issue.
Is this problem with carrier or Android L?

I have not seen this issue on three devices I've owned with Lollipop. So it appears to be a carrier issue?

Open channel for BIP

Hi, I get the annoying message "Open channel for BIP" from time to time. I can relate it to the second SIM-card. After I put it in, the messaging starts. Can I switch that off somehow?

Thanks, but already found that as well. It's a bit old and not a solution. Here a summary of what was found out there:
What is BIP:
Barrier Independent Protocol, relative new high speed channel for moving data between a BIP server and a storage device (like the SD card in a phone).
Someone meant it could have something to do with a SD card. There is no in the phone, the SD-Slot is used for the second SIM.
Another one updated the phone. Didn't help me.
App bugs? Don't think so. The messaging start when inserting the second SIM-card and stops after removing. No Apps installed or changed during that process.
The last person change his SIM-card then, and the messaging stopped for him.
So the main question remains: what ist that BIP about and what does it have to do with that SIM-card and can I stop it somehow?
I already changed the SIM-card. Now it's a new one but the same provider.
The other SIM doesn't make any problems, it's another provider. But the provider might not be the problem. When I exchange the place of each SIM the problem still exists. Does it have something to do with the combined SD-/SIM-card-slot?
Any ideas?

Some users said updating fixed the issue, but if nothing there worked on yours then I would honestly just try a factory reset to rule out other potential factors. It might still be related to an app that triggers something when 2nd sim is inserted, not sure... Are you on latest stock firmware, or rooted on custom roms?

OK, that's quite weird. I've absolutely no clue how, but it seems to be fixed. Without factory reset. No root, no custom rom. Latest firmware, so there was no option to update anything.
What have I done now:
I tried to figure out several combinations with both or one SIM-card in different slot-combinations. I wanted to know if it could have anything to do with the provider or the SIM-card-mount. Between I restarted and reinserted the SIM-Card mount several times. Then somehow the messaging stopped. Till now (about 24h) it's best behaved
So I'm sorry that I've opened an new thread, because it's quite close to the result of that one:

Goad you managed to get it sorted out, and thanks for posting back to close the loop
OK, it started again. Now installed Norton Antivirus and it found no virus but apps with unusual/unexpected behavior. It was one for my electronic scale (yolanda-app) and one for voice recording. Deinstalled both and the message was gone. Hopefully forever now...
I have no idea about anything y'all are discussing. However I just opened, turned on and connect to my hotspot, my second Samsung Galaxy J7crown in 2 months and I am getting same pop up. Try to search for answer and I get opinions, cause Google and assistant absolutely suck now on any actual FACT finding anymore. Did anyone figure this out yet? Google won't. I'm sure it's another thing they DON'T want you to know about. Frustrated....
I have to agree. I just recently got a j7 crown and am experiencing this same message from time to time. I just came here looking for answers but have found nothing. Hope it's nothing serious
I had this message only once, when I went to Japan then switched SIM card.
I have had the same issue all day today. I've had this phone since November and have randomly seen this pop up but never like it has today. I went to settings, about phone and clicked update and it has fixed it so far. It has only been 20 minutes but hoping it doesn't happen anymore. I never thought something would annoy and anger me the way that did lol!
I've had the same Galaxy J7 crown with StraightTalk service, since Feb 2019. I've never removed neither my SD nor SIM card. I only hey the BIP message briefly at bottom of screen every time I turn my phone on (like from being turned off completely, not just the screen).
It's not a nueseance to me, I am just wondering what exactly it means.
Any answers? In layman's terms? Thanks!
Duh!..
They are watching you. Isnt it odd that there is no definitive answer????

K20 Pro VoLte call drop on Sim 1

Hi dear friends,
I have a Chinese K20 Pro with unlcoked bootloader and running india firmware 10.3.5.0
Previously I had Huawei Mate 10 Pro working with VoLte flawlessly. but my K20 Pro VoLte option was not present in the menu so i searched a little bit and find following code to re enable the option *#*#86583#*#*
After enabling the volte, to be sure that if it really works, i tested avalablity of internet data when i was talking to someone and it was ok.
But from 2 days ago there were several(if not all the time) that when i got a call or when i call someone just seconds after connecting the connection dropped 4g volte icon disappears and mobile signals goes grey with cross icon on it and after just a seconds it turned on again, it was like i pulled out the sim and insert it again.
I have not any problem if i turn off volte option and i was almost sure that the problem is some incompability between my phone and operator volte but i tried something else too, i switched the sim from sim1 to sim2 and with volte on i don't have any problem so i got confused do i have hardware problem?
Any idea?

So it worked for you before but now you have the same problem as me? Or you always have the problem?
Also did you have the same situation with the sim slots?(one is ok another not ok)
Yes, it's working fine last week. I will try swaping cards. Maybe it's a software related, updated to last beta from xiaomi.eu on saturday. Problem arrived after that.

Please swap the sim cards and test, it is almost 2 days that volte on sim 2 is working ok.
Edit 1: it is almost 4 days that i use my phone with volte ON using sim 2 no call drop no problem, can anybody confirm the same behaviour?
It was same with me, also Telenor Bulgaria.
I switched to sim 2 after reading here a few days ago and the problem seems to be resolved.
Before I had to restart the phone in about 2 days, because I just stopped hearing the person who calls me. Or switch to 3G. But to use VoLte again I had to restart. It just happened every other day...
Now everything seems to be fine... with that problem.
I still have the problem of not being able to use the Google Assistant to unlock my phone and can't turn on location history on Google maps.
I guess it's because of the Chinese ROM.
Anyway thanks for showing me a way to use VoLte less struggling

Glad that it helped, but it is strange problem
By the way i didn't use chinese rom, i am using indian rom which is almost the same as global rom but the device by default was from china and was running chinese rom, my theory is that devices came from china have some incompability with the bands or volte with other countries...
Volte disappearing and data & voice calls get disconnected.
I bought my k20 pro last month & last week all of a sudden volte got disconnected & appeared again.
Then after few moments my friend called me and all of a sudden call ended & I saw No network on the screen & after a few seconds volte was enabled again automatically.
At , First I thought it was just data or APN problem.
Then the things got worse when I was playing PUBG game and volte disappeared again and same thing happened again and again every 6 to 7 minutes .
I am frustrated of this , can you get me out of this mess , can you tell me what should I do to solve this issue
Thank you

It seems nothing we can do about this, just disabling volte solves the problem.
My guess is that K20 Pro modem is optimized for China's cellphone towers so volte is not quite compatible with other countries. it is just my guess.

Mi 9 network/wifi stability issue

Hello everyone,
I just got my phone back from after sales service due to my phone been softbricked (black screen, device not charging when plugged, ...) and by phone can boot now but it's bugging as soon as i put a SIM CARD in it.
When putting the SIM CAR in, phone is loosing wifi connection every 60 seconds (approximately) even right beside the router, and for the network, i'm stuck in EDGE and no signal stability either.
It's the same SIM CARD that was in before i sent it for repair, so the issue should not come from it (and it's working fine on my old Mi5)
One change they did is that they've updated the rom to the last MIUI 12 EEA stable rom, it was still on MIUI 11 global when i've sent it.
I've already wiped it and installed again the last update but it didn't work.
I was wondering if the issue was not coming from the EEA rom instead of the global rom, but i'm unable to install it since i don't have a computer anymore that i can use for xiaomitoolV2 and since it's still under warranty i would like to avoid unlocking it.
Is this kind of issue known ? could it be only software issue ?
Thank you for your help.
I didn't install any specific app that could have modified the settings and no specific app or setup is usually required with my network provider.

More than likely it's going to be software issues. Did you already any apps top modify system settings?
