K20 PRO China vs Global ROM - Redmi K20 Pro / Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro Questions & Answe

I'm still on 19.3.17 China - Rooted - Unlocked
So now OTA have 11.0.4.0 stable.
The question is:
recovery OTA image using adb can earsed your phone data (apps,v.v) and make you lose Root/unlocked ?
With China Room, everything i'm changed in settings (Google Assistant, kaspersky battery lite,...) always reseted to default after i'm closed apps, with Global ROM, it fixed this problem right ?
Is there have anyway to keep apps,data,etc.. when i'm updating ROM to lastest 11.0.4 ?
THANK

rooted, updated directly with OTA... Rooted gone...
But when i'm opening Banking app, it still have warning about rooted phone @[email protected]

Mi Note LTE virus

Hi guys,
I bought a Mi Note yesterday from Singapore (I life in The Netherlands). The phone is doing fine, but I have one problem.
It came with malicious bloatware. This com.twiter.apk and other files keep installing malware on my phone.. and I can not stop it.
Please tell me with to do? The firmware is MIUI 6.
Download the firmware and reflash full firmware wiping caches etc...
How do I do that?
If im correct, i need to download the firmware and flash it via the updater app. How do I get the original firmware? (Which includes my language) And how do I know it helps? I already wiped all data twice. The virus is in the system one back up at this moment.
P.s. will i still have google play?
I recommend grabbing a copy from http://xiaomi.eu/, it's a modified version of the Chinese ROM from MIUI, but removed of China-specific features/apps/bloatware, and comes with Google Services pre-installed (PlayStore and a few other google framework). As far as I can tell, the ROM is "clean" (no malware), and it's updated frequently (the same frequency as MIUI's weekly updates).
If I'm not mistaken, Xiaomi.eu ROM also comes with more European languages, instead of just Chinese & English.
That's the ROM I've been running on my Mi Note Pro, and I've been very happy with it (happier than the official Chinese ROMs).
thank you, but I can only find sdma roms on the site, and I need LTE because my sim card uses 4G.
Thank you guys. It worked!

Possible malware after flashing official ROM?

Hi,
I got a Mi 5 two weeks ago. The hardware of this phone is awesome but unfortunately I discovered that it was flashed with a fake ROM and I didn't like it.
I was able to restore official Chinese ROM, and then I did an upgrade to the latest MIUI 8.2.2.0 (Nougat). The problem is that, besides the language problem, Gapps were not working well with chinese ROM. So I unlocked the bootloader and upgraded to the latest Global ROM and so far so good. It works great, even Google apps.
Today I installed and app called Koodous, that detects malware, and it detected a system app called SpacesCore (com.securespaces.android.settings) as malware (but I got no more details on what type of malware).
My questions are:
1. can be a false positive?
2. can malware be still on the phone after flashing the official ROM and resetting to factory defaults?
3. if it's not a false positive, how can I remove this? Obviously flashing a new ROM and resetting is not enough. Rooting?
Regards,
Kurt.-

K20 Pro 11.0.3.0 Global, whiche TWRP and Magisk use ?

Hi everyone, sorry for my bad english.
I have a Redmi K20 Pro (chinese phone from Rakuten sent to France) with 11.0.3.0 Global Rom (QFKINXM) with an UNLOCKED Bootloader.
I would like to install TWRP (for root) and magisk (to hide root).
When I've bought the phone, i had a 9t Pro Rom installed. I've tried to install TWRP and magisk and I soft bricked it...
So... I've reflash an old Global K20 Pro ROM (not 9T Pro) and update it via OTA.
Now I'm in 11.0.3.0 Global with the good phone name (K20 pro).
I would like to know wich version of TWRP and Magisk I must flash.
Maybe one from this thread?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Yep the latest unofficial in your link should work on all regardless. If I'm not mistaken you're on the global indian version for K20 pro?
Hum... I don't know... How can I see that ?
"if it's the first time you flash the TWRP or you are getting problems of TWRP lost or device doesn't boot after flashed magisk or something else you need to flash a modified vbmeta:

Must I flash VBMETA ?

You shouldn't normally need to flash vbmeta, if you are going to install Magisk. You should be OK, if you boot immediately to TWRP after flashing, then flash Magisk.
Also look at Orange Fox recovery, if you are sticking with MIUI. It has extra features specific to MIUI, such as OTA survival and in-built debloat tools, amongst other things.
If you don't need the extra features, then stick with the mauronofrio's TWRP.
For Magisk, just go with the latest official build.
I tried to flash Twrp many times but every attempt failed... Orange Fox is no problem, but I like Twrp more. The phone isn't booting up after flashing Twrp... Has anybody a solution for this problem?

Ok I will try Orange Fox. But could I install Magisk to hide root with Orange Fox ? Moreover, must I boot to Android before flashing Magisk or must I flash it immediatly after the Orange Fox install ?
Thanks in advance.
EDIT : all tutos I've found tells that I must install TWRP before Orange Fox... But I can't install TWRP without soft brick...

wait wait wait....
Umm, if you haven't gotten a fix yet.
You're saying you got k20p china model (RCN) with global rom (RGL rom) and it is using Indian Vendor (RIN vendor).............. dude.... why.
Anyways, can I just suggest you move to EU ROM latest stable. Its a lot less hassle, seriously.
I mean AOSP is great too. but if you want miui, EU just skips all the problems.
Also, to fix your problem.
Find out what phone you have first, then get the latest updated vendor for it.
Use mauronifroi's TWRP img file and flash it via cmd on your PC. then use orangefox.
Just flash the latest stable magisk zip file 20.3
My Guide should fix everything you have. you mix and matched 3 things lel, no wonder something is soft-bricking. Use my guide, or text me on telegram

How can I know exactly the phone model I have ? I'v bought it on Rakuten as a 9T Pro and I've received a K20 Pro (chinese or indian, I don't really know)
Then, how can I know exactly the rom I have. It's just written "11.0.3.0 Global Rom (QFKINXM)" on my phone.
I seem to have an Indian phone with an indian rom but I'm not ure. All works perfectly and in french but I don't pass the Safety check from Google.
Thanks in advance.

But i've received a K20 Pro. After the brick I've installed an old official Global Rom from the Xiaomi website and update it via OTA.
(again sorry for my very bad english)
download cpu-z app on play store, and check if somewhere there is ,,raphael'' or ,,raphaelin'' so we can be sure
Thanks. CPU-Z says me "raphaelin"... So... Indian phone with an Indian Rom I suppose.
I'm affraid to flash TWRP. I'm tired to reinstall all my phone, apps, settings, data, game saves...etc

You speak English well.
Right, so on my guide link.. scroll down to the 3rd comment, and you'll find a guide that says HOW TO KNOW WHAT DEVICE I HAVE. and check the box.
I'm just assuming whoever sold it did not change the boxes as well.
anyways, on the back of the phone, if it says REDMI it's either an Indian k20p or a Chinese k20p. If it has MI written on it. Your phone is Mi 9tp.
download the DRM info app from the play store. If your widevine is L1, you have the Indian variant confirmed.
If your widevine is L3, you have the china variant probably (or the Indian variant and screwed with the widevine, and you may get it back depending on what the manufactures did. Iff it shows L3, it's a decent chance its the china version)
another sure-fire way is checking if NFC works. The Indian variant does not have NFC hardware chip at all., whereas the china version does.
for now, move to EU, and we can slowly work on which exactly if you are hell-bent on know what you got.
The CPU-Z will show raphael/raphaelin based on your vendor. I have raphaelin, but I am using EU rom, which uses modified china vendor, so my CPU-Z app shows raphael and not raphaelin
btw, if you are so self-conscious about your English, download the chrome extension called grammarly., and Enable it. That'll help your English dramatically by underlining your grammatical mistakes. I use it all the time, and for making sure my posts are grammatically sound.
I'm on telegram as sandeeep, you can text me there if you want to.
Thanks everyone.
I have a chinese version (winedev L3 and NFC and K20 written in the back), good for me and Netflix ! And everyone works perfecly on my phone.
So... I will try to backup as many things as possible and retry to flash TWRP. If it's failed I will flash an EU Rom et retry the TWRP flash.
Sandeeep Kiran, I will telegram you if I have problems. Thanks a lot guy !

Hopefully this is the last time to back up and restore the phone.
Go here and get the latest EU fastboot ROM
https://xiaomifirmwareupdater.com/miui/raphael/
It's labelled Global EEA - currently version 11.0.3
Install it with this guide
https://c.mi.com/oc/miuidownload/detail?guide=2
If you see a blank page on a mobile phone, change the browser to desktop mode to view it.
IMPORTANT
In the guide at step 4, after unzipping the ROM delete the file clean_all_lock.bat - This will stop you accidentally bricking the phone.
In step 5 make sure you change the option at the bottom to clean all, before hitting the flash button (see the photo in the guide)
You need to boot into MIUI once before flashing anything else.
After initial set-up of MIUI, boot into fastboot and flash the latest TWRP from here
https://forum.xda-developers.com/k2...icial-twrp-xiaomi-redmi-t3944363/post79823568
Currently 3.3.1-32 is the latest.
After flashing TWRP, while you are still in fastboot mode, type
Code:
fastboot reboot
Now as soon as you hit enter, pick up the phone and press and hold the volume up button. Keeping holding volume up until the phone boots into TWRP.
Download the latest Magisk from here
https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/releases
(It's a good idea to also download the uninstaller file too, just in case you need it)
With the phone now in TWRP and connected to the PC, copy the Magisk installer to the phone, then flash it with TWRP.
You should now have the latest EU ROM with TWRP and Magisk successfully installed, so reboot to MIUI and check Magisk is working.
Then reboot to recovery and check TWRP is working.
I apologies for my bad French.

Back to Stock

Hi,
I bought this Mi 9T Pro, a year and 5 months ago. It already came rooted and with Miui 20.5.7 Beta.
However i run in to the problems that i am starting to use this phone for work now and it can't be used due some checks that this phone is rooted and on an old updated version.
Is there a way to get back to the stock eu rom. With automatic updates and to unroot it, without losing all my programs/photos etc.?

By 'rooted', do you mean that Magisk is installed (that you really have SuperUser privileges in Android) or only that Bootloader is unlocked (and maybe TWRP/custom Recovery is installed)?
Also, by Miui 20.5.7 Beta do you mean an old Xiaomi.eu Weekly or some other custom ROM or what?
You can flash Magisk uninstall.zip from TWRP to unroot=uninstall Magisk (that will not relock BL, but properly speaking rooting should be related to su and hence Magisk).
In Magisk app (former Magisk manager) there is also Uninstall Magisk option but I would suggest to flash the uninstall.zip instead.
It would be also good that you go to the Modules in Magisk app/mngr and uninstall all modules (and reboot) first
If you are on Xiaomi.eu Weekly, you should be able to upgrade to the latest Weekly or even better to the Xuaomi.eu Stable without Formatting Data (hence keeping your apps, settings and documents).
Better than latest stock and (without Magisk - to avoid troubles with hiding the Magisk) you will be passing SafetyNet right away (Xiaomi.eu hides that Bootloader is unlocked) and you should not have any problem for your business apps.
For updating Xiaomi.eu you will need TWRP - you probably have an older version, you will need to update the TWRP first (or Orange Fox or your customRecovery of choice)
But if you really want to go back to stock you MUST do FORMAT DATA (if you don't you might be able to install the stock but you will complain then that this or that does not work, etc), hence you will loose all your user apps, settings, data - you need to think about backing up and later restoring (cooying e.g. photos to PC, backing up contacts via Google account, and Xiaomi Clouds also provide useful back-ups for apps and their settings, Comtacts, Calls and SMS, even WiFi passwords)

Are the weekly builds also availble on OTA updates? So i won't have to update manually every time? Because saving the files and apps that i have right now are key. Otherwise i can just buy a new phone and transfer everything. Is there a good tutorial on how to update it to the latest weekly?

Ok, from Magisk app/mngr uninstall all modules and reboot. Later when you update Xiaomi.eu, it will flash the new, clean boot.img without the Magisk patch.
Finally, you will uninstall the Magisk app/mngr then (app/mngr is apk, not the Magisk itself, only it's front-end/UI to manage the Magisk)
For Orange Fox you will need to search where to download the update.
You can also take latest TWRP from TWRP.me and flash the img file (to Recovery) from OF
If you are really on Xiaomi.eu (check My Device does it really say MIUI by Xiaomi.eu or so), go to Xiaomi.eu forum, open the Stable (or Weekly) thread and read the OP posts (usually, posts #1 and #2) where to download and how to install/update
When updating from the old Xiaomi.eu Weekly/Stable to the latest Stable, the following should be enough:
- download the ROM zip for raphael
- go to OF/TWRP and flash the ROM
- Wipe Dalwik and Cache
- Go to Advance (maybe in OF named differently, I don't use OF), File Manager, navigate to /data/system and delete its package_cache subfolder
(Btw, I downgraded that way from Xiaomi.eu weekly to always the little older Stable and everything went ok - I only had an issue with Gallery app that was newer in my Weekly than in the Stable - but that is also solvable and could not apply to your ancient Weekly)
I.e., the guide might say that you need to Format Data, but since you are upgrading from an really old Weekly/Stable version there is no fear that you might downgrade any system app
PS: Xiaomi.eu provides its own OTA mechanism but for updating you will always need TWRP (OF), not the stock Recovery.
However, Mi 9 series (plain, T, T Pro, SE, all of them) are on the end-of-line. There will be no Xiaomi.eu Weeklies any more for them, and it's unclear would they receive additional Stable updates (just like the newer Security patches).
But the similar fate applies to stock OTA upgrades, too. Phones were released with MIUI 10/A 9, more than two years ago, Xiaomi upgraded them to MIUI 12 / A11 (two major versions ahead) - and that's it

Question Easiest way to change from CN ROM to Global ROM without losing data?

Hi guys, I bought my Xiaomi 11 ultra via an exporter almost 6 months ago and I have been using it happily.
I updated to MIUI 13.0.9 recently based on the phone OTA updates and I have been experiencing issues with dark mode and notifications. Some apps don't show notifications despite me disablling MIUI battery saver and enabled auto start.
Been browsing this forum for awhile and reading all the guides but can't seem to find one that allows me to root and swap to Global ROM without losing my data.
I have tons of pictures and data in my phone that I don't want to lose.
Can anyone be so kind to point me the directions?
Regards,
James
Simplest and only way, LOSE YOUR DATA!!!
The other thing you can do is back your data up over cloud (google or Xiaomi) and then restore your phone once rom has changed
Can the unlock bootloader / flashing of the global ROM or eu rom work with the latest version of CN ROM?

Global rom still 12.x so if u want to flash from CN 13.x to global 12.x U must change some line in fastboot file so can downgrade rom
EU ROM seems like it's on MIUI 13.0 already. Would you recommend me unlocking bootloader and flashing MIUI 13 EU ? I'm backing up my phone now, just a little worried about my Google authenticator and my other crypto defi wallet like metamask and etc .

EU rom is china rom with some mode to make it global. And miui 13 stil has alot of bug (im using it 1-2 months) and i will change back to global rom soon
With me, eu rom sometimes got so laggy, refresh rate suddenly change to very slow value. Never met it in global rom.
Unlocked and flash another rom is a must do thing if u dont live in china. So u can try global or EU, what do u feel better. I come from eu to global, then try eu 13.x and now really want to fall back to global now

I would also recommend you to use Swift Backup for App / Messages / Call logs / WiFi PW backups. It works for most of the Apps so that you don't loose anything. Usually with Banking apps the restore doesn't really work. But there is usually also no data to keep with it. I always copy the Download and DCIM folder directly to my Laptop and after local backup also the full Swift Backup folder. Then I'm ready to wipe. I do that on a regular base (every 4-6 weeks) as the daily updates of CN rom sometimes make the phone a bit unstable.
Don't forget that your phone will be wiped once you unlock the bootloader.
when you unlock your bootloader there is no other option then format. It happens without asking it is just mandatory. Like @RoughNeck1971 says... i also use Swift to backup and copy DCIM directly to laptop
Question though, I'm now currently on MIUI 13.0.9 on CN ROM through OTA ever since I got it out from the box.
Am I able to flash to global ROM from MIUI 13 CN to Global ROM MIUI 12?
I read that OTA doesn't work anymore after changing ROMs,
So the propery way is to
1. Unlock bootloader,
2. Flash Global ROM with TWRP
3. Then full back up with TWRP whenever I want to update it to a new version of global stable ROM?
Sorry guys I haven't been in xda for a long time, since the times HTC sensation was released I meddle with some roms and radio updates.
Appreciate your guidance.

James

First of all - when you go back to MIUI 12 on Android 11 then TWRP is the right way to go as it supports it. Then you don't have to care about changing line in fastboot for downgrade. But as long as you have TWRP installed instead of the xiaomi recovery you can't do OTA. But you can just "update" with the new full rom version.
If you should do a full backup with TWRP - can't really say as I never tried to restore a full backup. I wouldn't rely on it to be honest. Better to have everything backed up and do a new install if there are issues.

I am really new to custom roms after using iPhone for a really long time and forgot how to root the phone.
I am fresh on CN ROM, on 13.0.9.
Can someone verify or guide if the steps I listed are correct?
0. Backup all files
1. Unlock "bootloader" with Mi Flash Unlock
2. Install ADB and flash TWRP Image
3. Install Global ROM (just to clarify, i can go back from 13.0.9 CN to Global MIUI 12 right?)
4. Check with Magisk that I am indeed rooted.
5. Restore backup from Swift / PC / Xiaomi Backup
You had it right. But you need to keep in mind that it takes usually 7 days until your bootloader will get unlocked! Sou you "apply" for it and then the counter starts from 168 hours to 0. Only then it will be unlocked. Unfortunately there is no way to get around that.
Hi guys, is it possible to flash the 512GB variant with a EU/Global rom or this can be done with a 256GB variant only?
You will lose data. You must format when you change ROM branch. I have Xiaomi EU ROM on my 11 512 Ultra now but did have global. Storage size doesn't affect ROM installation.

But he is now at miui 13, so he must change fastboot file to rollback to miui 12 fastboot rom first
Then unlock, flash twrp and do everything else
Ah - OK. I understood that you have no problem installing Android 11 when you have TWRP running. Only to install Android 12 via TWRP has issues.

You must format data when changing ROM branches. This due to possible partition differences between them. You may end in a boot loop until you do format.
