I had YouTube-Vanced (Magisk Module) installed.
It was working fine, Until YouTube was auto updating.
So i tried to remove it (YouTube app) from "system", so when it's not a "system app" it won't auto update. but -as the mover app warned me- it went wrong and was removed from device completely.
Therefore, I had to reinstall YouTube from Google Play. Which obviously is an updated version. And Vanced-Module can't take effect.
I tried to reinstall Vanced-Module but to no avail.
When I tried to manually install the apk (of YT Vanced) from /sbin/.core/img
It said "can't install - package seems corrupted"
Any thoughts on how can I solve this?
Thanks!
Since you now have managed to remove YouTube as a system app, uninstall it completely and only install Vanced.
For future reference, if something similar happens again down the line, you can just go to the App info screen and uninstall updates to bring back Vanced.

My wife has a moto G XT1064. Youtube won't update and it won't run.
The phone is completely stock, running 5.0.2
Youtube gives an unspecified error 501 when trying to update.
I have uninstalled older updates to it, I downloaded the latest APK and tried to install manually. it fails.
I've tried clearing the cache and deleting data from the play store app, play services, chrome, google app. Nothing helped.
any ideas are appreciated!

A couple of questios. You did reboot after clearing out the play app didn't you?
Also, if you go to settings>Apps>All Apps, do see any other listing for Youtube?
If you search your device for Youtube using something like ES Explorer, do you find any other instances of it?

I tried all those things. I finally wiped my wife's phone and started from scratch. It works now

There is a solution to this, but it needs root. If you're rooted, clear the Youtube app cache and data, then use System App Remover to uninstall YouTube, and ensure any third party extensions like YouTube Karaoke are uninstalled as well. Then reboot the phone (it will NOT work if you skip this). When that's done, install the latest version of YouTube from the Play Store and you're good to go!
I've installed lollipop using TWRP and recovering a backup, and everything seems to be fine, except for the fact that now I can't install apps, neither from apks, Google play, can't even update them. When I do from apk it simply says "application not installed" and from Google play it gives an error 504,which you usually fix deleting the apps data and cache, and Google services's too, but that doesn't work.
I was able to do it at first, after I made it 5.0.2,installed all my previous apps, updated the old ones, except Chrome that never allowed me to update it. But now I can't install or update any app. Any idea what could it be?
I thought it may be related to writing permissions but if that was the case I'd have had he problem right from the beginning.
Could it be a problem with the version of Android I installed itself? I mean I could flash apps in, but not install them in the usual ways.
After I unlocked the bootloader and got root permission using Magisk (I followed the guide in the Guides section) the Netflix app stopped working, as soon as I restart the phone and/or I clear the app's cache the app crashes without saying much (Netflix'app has crashed: reopen or send feedback)
If I reopen it it just stays on the Netflix's logo screen forever.
Any idea what's causing this?
If I remember correctly, Netflix won't work on rooted devices. Go to magisk-> Magisk Hide and choose apps like netflix, android pay and pokemon.

That did not work when I tried last April.. but the file "liboemcrypto.so" in /system/lib is the file that makes the error occur. When the file is removed or renamed, the error goes away and you can watch movies but not in HD quality.
There's a Magisk Module that solves the issue too...
as the title says i have been having problems getting the youtube app to stop updating , i followed the instructions in the vanced post , i did the method 2 of the magisk installation (where you download the latest version from the page and install the module) placed the install via magisk module and the detach from playstore module on the download folder , all goes normal i even deleted all youtube data , and unistalled the app with titanium backup , and disabled the auto update tick box several times and it still ends up updating youtube and removing the vanced version :/

For the app should be enough.
that's what i always do and it still ends up updating , even with the detach module, maybe i'll have to disable it all together :l
That's werid stopping auto update from the play store should stop all that

Well, it doesn't. I'm experiencing the same.
i am using it on pie. is really frustrating the app update by itself.
SWITCH OFF AUTO UPDATE IN PLAYSTORE ARE NOT WORKING AT ALL.
detach in TB is NOT WORKING also.
but version on nougat doesn't have this issue, maybe google did something fishy on PIE?
I guess you should ask for help in the dedicated threads for Youtube Vanced instead of creating a new thread for this.

Same in Oreo. Never had problem with Nougat.
I installed it just like the OP, it would detach but play store would attach youtube back on the update list by itself every night. When the phone is restarted the detach module in magisk will detach it again, but the next morning, play store would put it back on the list.
use service disabler

Disabling the auto-update from Play Store works fine for me. I've been using Vanced for months and no such issues.

"Explanation of the (Ad)Vanced options of the official installer:"
After thatd download the files from the 3# post:

Use the Mediafire host. in the Installer folder you'll find all the necessary files.

I've been trying to figure out this issue for a while.
Basically issue for me is on Google Pixel XL and now Pixel 3 XL and my friends Moto x4, all on both Android Oreo and Pie... Using Magisk repo install and uninstalling stock YouTube, and then adding enable_detach empty file in cache folder in root along with turning off "Enable auto update" in Google play store for YouTube . Usually this works for a few weeks but every now and then it ignores it and updates itself and turns on auto update without user explicitly allowing it. (Says YouTube was just updated).
I can easily fix it by uninstalling updates again but my friend doesn't know how to do this easily. I also tried to remove YouTube forcefully with titanium backup from system app and detaching months ago but that caused a lot more problems. Currently it gives option to attach to market forced despite it still showing up in market saying update (and auto update off for it)
I wanted to understand the plz and settings.sh options if using specifically Magisk method 1 (Magisk repo). Or are those only if using the other methods under magisk and/or root only option (no Magisk)?
Use the Sudohide xposed module.
This Module will prevent apps from detecting other installed apps on your device. Settings are done on per app basis.
Steps to hide VancedYT (A) from Play Store (B):
1. Select app A in the main list a new list view will be launched
2. Tick the checkbox next to app B in the newly opened list view
3. Press apply to save and back to exist
4. Restart luncher or reboot the phone.
Slow down.
Detach using titanium backup WORKS
For me I could only press "attach to playstore"
So I did. After I got button detach.
It worked and removed it
I'm using Andorid Q custom rom and rooted.
I'm not able to uninstall or remove stock google apps from Titanium backup like earlier. It says apk not found for any system app.
Then tried Magiks Debloater and removed Youtube.
Now whenever I try to flash YtVanced via TWRP it says flashed but when I boot to phone I cant find youtube yt vanced.
Whats wrong?
Also, is "/system/product/priv-app" or "/system/priv-app" somethign new path which got introduced in Android Q ? As seems due to this Titanium backup is failing and google made it real hard to remove such apps.
Sorry for being brief, but it sounds like you're using the systemless debloater module. The way this module works is by not *actually* removing the system apks from their directory/folder, but that it writes a systemless "blank" space, which tricks your phone into thinking the app is not installed. That said, the root version of Vanced is named to mimic the package name of the regular YouTube app (same name, so that other apps that would call up YouTube can call up Vanced, instead). If you "debloated" YouTube, then essentially, the debloater is tricking your phone into thinking it (re: Vanced) isn't there. If you were to re-enable the YouTube package name, then it *should* pop back up.
