Can somebody try to answer what might be the reason behind the discrepancy between oreo and pie performance? Is it bad software or just our phone is a little obsolete?

It's just not optimized. I prefer oreo as it worked flawlessly with my op3t, but still it's better to stay on pie for the security updates.

should i update to oos 4.1.6

guys i have bought a new one plus 3t device and its running mm 6.0.1
should i update to oos 4.1.6
is it better in terms of battery life and performance
p.s i do not intend to root or install any custom.rom right now and want to stick to oos for now
my basic requirements are good batter life and stability
So basically you are wondering if Android 7.x is better than Android 6.x ?
Well I guess the point is quite obvious.
Or why did you bother buying a new phone?

Everyone is going to have a different experience with battery life and performance. Of course, the intent with each update, is to improve these thing (although it doesn't always work out this way) as well as increased features and security.
4.1.6 is running great for me.

thnx for the info
feeling positive about upgrading now
OOS 4.1.6 is great imho. No issues so far, I couldn't go back to MM. People sometimes have issues because they flash updates over updates without wipe, and sometimes the phone may need it.
Since your device is brand new and you don't have a lot a data on it yet, I strongly advice you to update your phone to 4.1.6 and then to reset it (data and settings). This way you'll get a clean, fresh and proper update to use your new phone on Nougat in best conditions possible.

4.1.6 It's not an early update, it's not a beta rom.
It's a stable rom officially released.
Regarding battery there are dozen of complaints, but also many users who don't have an issue.
So, you can't really make up your mind just by reading on the comments of other users.

What is the benefits of Oreo?

I still haven't revived Oreo update here in Thailand. When it is released, before I install it, I'm curious what is the benefit of installing Oreo? Note 8 already does everything it's supposed do, will this update make anything better or provides any new features?
having a locked bootloader.

significantly worse battery backup and lags and bugs here and there..and that's pretty much about it...
Surprise surprise. That's why I have stuck to 7.1.1 and rooted the device.
Every new update to any Samsung device introduces bugs and kills battery life. Personally it offers little advantage and I'm not the least bit interested in upgrading.
Why waste time changing something that works well just for the sake of it?
-New Lockscreen clocks
-AOD is now better optimised
-boots up quicker
-support for new bluetooth audio codecs like AAC
-gif support in Samsung Keyboard
-you can now restart the iris scan if ever it initally failed to scan by tapping an icon in the lower quarter of the screen instead of the status bar area
-MUCH better notification management system
Many more small tweaks that make the overall experience better!

What do you mean? Oreo didn't lock down the BL on Exynos, and it was already locked on most Snapdragons.

No lags, bugs, or noticeable battery drain here, and I'd be the first to say so. Careful about 'reports'...half the time they've done something else like dirty flash, installed mods, etc. and blame the wrong culprit.

Ok but the problem is with rmm on your specific device model/region, not Oreo itself. I have a different model and OEM is unaffected by Oreo for me (oem unlock toggle is still there). People have rmm issues even on Nougat. It doesn't mean you have to upgrade to Oreo if course, but Oreo is not the reason for your issues.
I updated and have been seeing the lag. Deleting emails takes like 5 secs now after hitting delete.
Iris recognition is a lot faster.

For me, the key reason for updating to Oreo was support for the Sony LDAC Bluetooth codec. I have the WI-1000X and the MDR-1000X headphones and can now stream audio to these via LDAC, instead of APTX.
Apart from that, as mentioned by previous posters, notifications have received a major overhaul. Also, I have not seen any performance dip after the update -- I flashed the France ROM via ODIN, without doing a factory reset or starting afresh.
I am never far away from a wireless charging pad, so don't know if the battery life has gone for a toss after Oreo.
I think that people should be more careful when posting negative or unconfirmed issues, as other poster said, some people get troubles when dirty flashing or installing firmwares other than official OTA ones

I'm currently using my WI-1000x, and just updated to Oreo. Have you noticed any difference with LDAC?

Agreed. Bone stock VZW Note 8 here, had it since pre-order. Oreo update came today and so far it's only been faster with no issues. It added some nice Bluetooth audio options in Developer Options.
I flashed the official Oreo rom so I didn't do a OTA and it works fantastic for me.
Overall performance is a lot better
Features like PIP are great
Battery is better
Waaaay better notifications
And a lot of other small improvements.
I think people that have issues with Oreo simply did a OTA

Basically avoid all x.0 software releases.
Goes for every software...
Samsung is already testing 8.1 on the note 9 so I will just wait for that to be ported.
It will bring new features and much better stability.

Agreed, I've almost always had the same experience in the past. The bugs usually get worked out in x.1. Not much different with 8.0, I pretty much immediately went back to 7.1.1.
Been on Oreo for 11 days now. For the average user there is some noticeable minor visual change in the UI. Other than that the phone feels and performs about the same. Nothing has changed on my usage.

Android Oreo or Android Pie?

Hello!!!
I did not update myself to Pie. I tried to let me know from this forum first about any bugs or problems, but the opinions are divided. I do not have the smallest problem with Oreo and the battery autonomy is enviable. I would be sorry for such a major update to be problematic for Note9, a phone that works impeccably with Oreo. What experience do you have with Pie compared to Oreo and eventually deserves this update or expect to see better versions.
Thank you!!!

There's several threads already for this. Here's the two main ones:

I have the exynos model. I mostly read the topic, some satisfied, some less, some had a bug, others had another considering that they were beta versions. I was interested in the experience after a time of using a final version. That opened and thead for downgrade. So there are still problems. Thanks for the answer!
I used all of the Beta updates and have been on the final update since release and it's been pretty good (For software made by Samsung) so far. For every 1 person complaining about One UI, there is probably 100 happy users.
The only bad thing for me is the fact they took the extra volume button on the call menu... And when getting a call and when speaking in loudspeaker the sound does not come from the top speaker.. So you kind need the extra sound boost...
Been using pie since my Pixel 2 XL and now on my Note 9! Wouldn't be with out pie!

Android pie?

I know android 8.1 isn't stable yet but this phone could be capable of android pie 9.0. Maybe with build.prop speed mods?

So far so good and I like it very much. Speed is lil bit faster and no major bugs found, only minor (mostly UI fails but not a problem).

Don't update! I did it, I regret it. Awful, ugly, laggy, stupid changes make heavier to use the phone, they stepped back around ten years. Thanks for Samsung restriction you cannot use the color theming apps anymore which works very well on Oreo. Hope I can go back to Oreo. I was very satisfied with Oreo, and I was stupid to update, but to root this Galaxy a6 plus is a pain in the ass as I see, even on Pie I don't know if it's possible at all. If someone know a good and working method, to go back from pie to Oreo, please...
