App detected root, but it was never rooted - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

My phone is SM-N950U1 which we all know it un-rootable... But recently a banking app has updated and it said my phone was rooted.I even run the safety net check and it passed the test. Is there any solution for this problem?

I would contact the Bank App Developer, it suggests to me that is where a fault lies, and not with your phone.

[Q] Trojan Detection

I decided to check on the progress of rooting the AT&T S5, and was pleasantly surprised to see it had been. My question and concern on the safety of the exploit, is due to ESET on my laptop flagging, quarantining, and blocking the page. Has anyone else run into this issue? I've attached a screen shot showing the threat detection. When I attempted to download it, that's when it was blocked and the tab in Firefox showed Problem Loading Page with an exclamation point inside a yellow triangle.

It's not a virus, it's fine. The s5 forums are full of people who have rooted, me included. You don't even need your computer. Go to towelroot website on your phone and download the apk and install. That's it. It's like magic.

Thanks!! Will definitely look into it. Just out of curiosity, will uninstalling the app remove root? Just wondering because I've been waiting for the day an app can root the phone, without the usb connecting and all that.

Once you root and reboot you can uninstall the app , root will remain. It is being detected as Trojan(general classification) because it is an exploit. This is nothing new it's rare to get root without somekind of exploit, that how it works.

Thanks for the information. After thinking about it I figured it's likely because it has to run from an outside source, so it's not what I initially thought it was. Thanks again though!!

Having an issue with an app not being able to access the outside world.

Hey everyone. Ok, my TD Bank app updated the other day, and since the update, I can no longer log into it.
I'm on an S-off rooted HTC M8 with stock Android 4.4.4, but the version doesn't seem to be the issue. I use Xposed for a couple simple things too.
I have BlueStacks on my laptop, and the same TD Bank app version, and that logs in just fine. The thing is, BlueStacks is using Android 4.4.2, so it can't be the Android version causing the issue.
Upon contacting the bank and attempting several logins from the phone, the app doesn't seem to be able to make contact with the internet to even try logging in, as if it's being denied access for some reason since the update. The bank saw no attempts being made at all when I tried with the app on the phone.
I've been using TD on this setup for a couple years now without issue, until the last update.
Is there anything any of you can think of that may cause TD to all of a sudden be blocked, or perhaps an app or something that may allow me to unblock it?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

The "my EE" app and Magisk hide

Hi guys.
I have installed Magisk on my Xiaomi Mi6 and everything is OK, but...
The Magisk hide working fine with every app like a Google pay or my bank app, but is only one app which recognise root on the phone still. Its My EE, the app for managing the mobile provider EE account.
Any idea what happened?
Mine works absolutely fine with it being hidden by Magisk Hide. I have the option to unlock using fingerprints
Have you tried wiping it's data in case its remembered you had root?
Same for me, it was working fine until this morning. I tried clearing the My EE app data but still the same.
Same here. Working fine until the 1st feb, then all of a sudden the myee app is unhappy with my OS status.
If you hide magisk manger in magisk settings you should be able to log in.
Many thanks. That seems to have done the trick. I did.not realise that MM had that functionality. Thanks for your time!
I only discovered it this morning too

P20 pro Google pay doesn't work nothing happens

Hello
I did see a similar thread but I don't think it answers my issue. Basically nfc works to pair headphones etc. But when I try to use Google pay nothing happens when j touch the phone to a terminal. No sounds no vibrations. I installed Google play services beta, re installed Google pay and still nothing. My phone model is : CLT-L09 and this is in regards to the UK region with a UK card. Everything is installed properly.
Thank you
i know nfc payments work as i've used it numerous times, but you must have phone unlocked to make the payment
Thank you
I have tried with the phone unlocked - nothing happened still I am afraid. The phone does not even respond when touching a terminal.
I just tried using it with something else NFC as well and it worked just fine again - really curious why this is happening haha

No, no root. Safety net passes. Play store safety checked - it's funny, it just doesn't do anything when I put it to the terminal. Doesn't react at all. Everything else nfc works.

Settings, Device Connection, NFC, Default Payment App? Should say Google Pay
Other than that, clear the data and try again. Leave the Play beta program, go back to normal google services (uninstall updates). Factory reset as last resort. Don't know otherwise i'm afraid!

Yes, it's google pay. Uninstalled/Reinstalled. I just tried a wipe cache partition - but have no terminal to test it.
Should I factory reset, do you have a good backup/restore app suggestion so that I won't go through the hassle of removing bloat/adding my apps again?
Tons of thanks for the help.

I've always used Titanium Backup, but it needs root, most if not all of the similar apps do. Think Google Play does back up stuff for you automatically, but I've never really used it. Otherwise you can backup/restore via HiSuite on your PC, takes ages, but does work. I'd reset as last resort though, uninstall updates & clear data etc for all the google apps first...just in case!
Tried factory reset, still nothing
I had similar issue with the Barclaycard app and had to go through and disable all the power management settings for the app. Now it works fine.
Would also be worth trying to make a payment when the app is open.
Haven't tried Google Pay yet

THanks for that tip.
I tried that - still nothing
I would like to report my problem solved !
Someone suggested I ask Vodafone UK to give me a new sim card, and that the solution worked for him when facing the same problem.
I was very skeptical as to why or how a new SIM would allow payment services to work, but hey. It did? I was able to use Google Pay right after installing my new simcard.
In case anyone in the UK has this issue and they are using an old style NFC sim card, replacing it with a new non-NFC one may solve this issue. Thanks !
still have the same issue i cant seem to add my card anymore t set up but on my razer phone 2 its fine

Question VPN not working

Anytime I try to enable the VPN on my P7, I get the message "VPN is disabled. Sign in or check your subscription status." Is there something special I have to do to enable the VPN? I have rooted my P7. Thanks.

You'll need subscription to VPN. It's not free for all countries i think

And you went through all the steps outlined? Specifically Google One benefits page? Perhaps someone else on the account is using the VPN meaning you will need to upgrade to use on multiple devices. It was a really straightforward setup. I'm also not sure how Google knows if you bought the phone or it's registered to someone else. You might want to give them a call or chat online to figure it out. It's not rocket science and one of the easier setups I've encountered.

I had this exact issue.
I reboot resolved this for me
This same issue just started for me, the Google One VPN had previously worked without issue for me, but all of a sudden, I went to turn it on and I am getting the same "VPN is disabled" message. Tried rebooting, clearing cache, uninstall/reinstall of GoogleOne and still the issue persists. I wonder if this is a server side issue potentially with "subscription status" being recognized?
Same, mine stopped working. Same error. It apparently stopped working between 5 days ago and now (last connected) which I think was when I installed the January update.
EdIt: I uninstalled the Google One app and reinstalled, it said I needed to purchase a plan to use the VPN, then later it said it was free with Pixel 7 again and set up the VPN, but then still wouldn't connect (same error as before).
It worked for me on the beta version p7 until yesterday, I'm from outside the supported countries, maybe they blocked it?
Mine has never worked for me ever unfortunately. This is the way it has been since the VPN first became available to turn on in the Google One app.
