for whatever reason note 8 rebooted and got stuck on bootloop. I think a module caused this. I can no longer boot. I can reset the fone but want to retrieve data. Can only do by booting twrp but note encrypted. Is decryption possible with any version of twrp or is it still not able to decrypt. If so i think il jump ship to oneplus. I can decrypt in twrp with oneplus and makes everything easier.

Hello
Yesterday I unlock the bootloader to flash Xiaomi.eu Rom on a Chinese MI8 and I noticed that is not encrypted.
When I try to encrypt it, I get a brick. Seems that twrp-3.2.3.0.-dipper not support encryption partitions and I not able to see the sdcard partition and I had to flash in fastboot to revive the phone.
The second test was flashing the official chinese ROM since it’s encrypted from beginning with twrp-3.2.3.0 and recovery-TWRP-3.2.2-0711-XIAOMI8-CN-wzsx150. With the last, the phone hangs on boot, and with twrp-3.2.3.0 boots but the filesystem seems encrypted from TWRP.
I come from MI5s Plus and it ask me the encrypted password when it try to mount the filesystem.
anyone succeed the encryption?
Seaching for a solution as well. I had similar experience like you with global beta and global stable, bl unlocked, twrp.
I need magisk as well, so only solution for now is to run unencrypted, if I activate encryption I cannot boot anymore.
@grootooter , I can confirm you that the recovery TWRP 3.2.3-0918-XIAOMI8-CN can read the encrypted filesystem in the chinese rom.
It not boot only with "fastboot boot recovery.img", you need flashing it.
I don't know if you can use magisk with encryption because dm-verity.
That's the reason because I stay in the chinese ROM, that has native root.
Someone would have to try this TWRP with Xiaomi.EU, then encrypt the filesystem and post the results.
I want to remove Magisk and root altogether on my Note 5, but when I uninstall via Magisk Manager or through TWRP it gets stuck in the logo until I re-install Magisk. I am doing this because I do not want problems when doing a Factory Data Reset. This will be done because I am going to trade-in the phone for a OP 6T and it has the OP Switch app which facilitates data transfer. If it is better to just wipe the phone completely and just backup my data elsewhere to transfer it to the new phone, then how would I do this as safely as possible? I have no custom ROM, Android 7.0, Magisk version is 17.1 and TWRP is version 3.1.1-0. Thank you.

Trading to T-Mobile? I traded my note 5 for the OP6T and I was rooted running custom everything. They didn't blink.

So you didn't erase it when you traded it? I would like to erase what is on my phone before giving it to them. Can I just use the Wipe option on TWRP after transferring everything and then give it to them?

If you want to do that.
Simply ODIN flash stock rom and you should be fine.
It would look as if it was just factory reset.
Hi,
maybe someone here can help me or point me in the right direction for a guide. That would be much appreciated!
I have a Oneplus 3T (A3003) that I flashed to LineageOS 14.1 with Magisk-Root a while ago.
I have been stuck on 14.1-20171005-NIGHTLY-oneplus3 for a while now, because since then, whenever I tried to do a nandroid backup from within TWRP, the backup failed because of some kind of error on the data partition (I believe). I haven't flashed a new version since then and haven't come around to it until now, because everything ran very smoothly. :silly:
Since I would like to switch to a more modern ROM (I was thinking of going back to Oxygen OS (5.08)) I started playing around with it yesterday and noticed that TWRP (I think 3.2.0) would not start anymore. It will always get stuck on the logo screen.
I then tried to flash a new version (3.2.3.1) through the Official TWRP app. It still got stuck on the logo screen and I tried flashing 3.2.3.0 after reading about problems with 3.2.3.1 but the results were the same.
Can you please tell me how to get TWRP working again and how to flash OxygenOS 5.08 on my 3T or point me to the neccessary guides?
Thank you.

As OOS implies enforced encryption of data partition, going to an from it can be a bit tricky. Simplest way is by wiping using Qualcomm factory restore tool and then just OTA upgrade or flash latest OOS zip.

@r_wraith, I'm thinking that your data may be formatted f2fs and be encrypted but no on-boot password, and have a lot of data in your user data. This could cause a long start time in TWRP.
So try waiingt for about 5 minutes when you boot into TWRP. It may end up getting past the logo screen.

That worked, thank you. Yes, my data partition is/was encrypted.
Since TWRP seems to be working again, do I need to flash some kindof firmware upgrade before I flash Oxygen OS or is this included in the OxygenOS-Image and only needed for flashing ANdroid 8 Custom ROMS?

The OOS zip includes the firmware. Custom ROMs don't because they use the OOS firmware. The firmware is stored in separate partitions so it isn't affected by wiping the system and data positions.
Since you're coming from Los 14.1 you'll need to do the following in TWRP:
- take a backup of your current system
- do a factory reset to clear the data partition without losing the files stored on internal storage
- flash the OOS zip file
- flash Magisk 18.0 which will root the phone as well as prevent TWRP from being replaced by the stock OOS recovery

Have a xiaomi mi8 with lineage os on it (official build) and twpr. Did have encryption working before but had to wipe the phone and lost all is and encryption and can't remeber for the life of me what twrp version I used to get encryption working and what steps I took to get there. I try encrypt the phone now and it gets stuck on lineage boot logo. Switch it off after hours of being on the lineage logo and get to twrp and it does not ask for a password but says it can't Mount my partition when j try browse file or factory reset (has to be format option to start again)
Any ideas what twrp version I need and what steps in what order I need to take to get encryption back
Hi all,
I encrypted the official lineageos on my Pixel 5 with a pattern and then installed a new version via TWRP.
Unfortunately, that does not seem to work with encryption, so now LOS no longer start and TWRP freezes at the logo and no longer asks for the pattern.
Is there a way to decrypt the internal memory with TWRP? I have previously made a backup, but now I no longer have access to it because it is on the encrypted storage.
I already tried to reinstall TWRP but it doesn't work, it freezes at the logo and therefore can't be used anymore.
If anyone has an idea what I can do, I would be very grateful.
