The phone has been rooted , running the March patch and has been working fine until about 2 hrs ago. I noticed the screen was blank (no ambient display) and the phone would not wake up when I tapped the screen or momentarily pressed the power button. So I held the power down for 10 sec and I got the normal bootloader unlocked warning and it booted normally. I took note that the battery was 88% charge. After a few minutes, same thing screen was blank. Same process to reboot. Seemed fine, battery 84%. Some time after that, screen was blank again. I held the power button down, got the bootloader unlocked warning, but this time when I released the power button the screen immediately went black. Tried this several times, same result. I then pressed power/vol down, got recovery, released the power button, same thing, screen immediately goes black. If I keep holding the power button, the bootloader warning appears, then the Google boot screen for 2 seconds, then the screen goes black. I also plugged in the charger, no charging icon. The phone was not dropped or exposed to moisture. Any ideas???
Hi, I had the same problem some time back. I had to flash the stock room again and root again

I was using my Nook HD+, when the screen suddenly showed lines all across it and froze. I had to push down the power button for 8 seconds to shut it down. Then could not turn it on. Tried all possible combinations, power, power+n, power+n+volume up keys for 5 seconds and for 30 seconds each time. Still not turning on. I tried plugging it in (although it had about 40% charge left before the screen froze) and noticed that the charging indicator glows green. If I push down the power button for 8 seconds, the light goes off, but if i press the button again, it comes back on. I've tried all the methods I saw on internet, except for draining the battery because the post suggested keeping it in a fridge, which I'm hesitant and also not in a position to do. Please help guys. I'm at a total loss.

Have you tried unplugging the battery from the MB wait 30 secs then plug it back in and charge it .(you have to remove the rear cover of course) I have had this issue with 3 HD+ units and it worked everytime.
Never dropped, never rooted etc, normal phone. The phone was purchased 9 months ago and after around 6 months exhibited some lags for menu/loading keyboard etc. I carried on until today where things got so bad with menu/program lag and so on that I decided to reset. I backed up everything from phone memory. From 32 GB internal memory around 12-15 GB were free. Battery was around 50%. I went to menu and made a factory reset.
After awhile, phone shuts down and does not turn on. When I connected the power it showed the battery charging icon and the orange light went on but no animation (if any) on the charge icon on screen.
Followed the steps online to hold power and volume up and it finally shut down. Now does not turn on at all.
Following the directions from this page on xda-developers , option 1 does not work at all. Option 2 makes a short vibration after initial 15 second but orange charge light does not illuminate. Continueing on holding the buttons makes short vibrations every 13 seconds onwards. Also holding power button and volume up does exactly the same thing. Power and volume down does not do anything.
Please help ! What did I do wrong ?
From XDA-Developers:
Option 1) Hold Volume Up & Down, then hold power for 90 seconds. Should vibrate/flash/respond somehow. Sometimes
takes some time and a few tries with long waits in between.
Option 2) Hold phone up to bright light (headlight or lamp bulb) and hold power for 15 seconds. Orange charge light
will illuminate. Play with power & volume buttons till it boots.

My phone battery died and the phone got switched off, now its not switching on even after charging through wall charger. When I try to reset the phone by pressing volume up + power on button/volume up+down+power on button after about few seconds the white screen with htc logo and powered by android comes up for few seconds and goes black again.
When I press volume up+Down+Power button for more time the white screen appears multiple times but phone doesn't boot. I can see the black screen battery charging animation, battery charge percentage and steady orange light when connected to the wall charger.
Please help me, if anybody has a solution to bring back the phone to life.
After few attempts of different combination of power up + volume down + volume up buttons I could get into the bootloader screen, when reboot and other options didn't work. I reset the phone and it came back to life, but lost all the data on the phone memory.
Seems like my 3T does not turn off when I turn it off via pressing the power button. When I have a charger connected it's easy to spot when the vibration goes off, but the charging light keeps lit - even when I remover the charger. It's also apparent that the device won't turn on when pressing the power button for three seconds. I need to press it about eight secs and then another two to turn it on.
Turning off works when rebooting the phone and turning it off from the bootloader (my device is unlocked) or when turning it off at the pin entry (have boot pin set).
Can anyone confirm?
Tested with clean system (no root, no Xposed) and still happening...
Turning off with the power button works on my device, powering up DOES take some time, 5-8 seconds of holding the power button down.
Seems like forever holding that power button!
Maybe I need to be more precise. Yes, I can "kill" the phone just holding that button for about ten seconds. But that's not the point. I suspect it does not power off properly.
To test, hook it up to the charger. Press power for about three seconds. Select "Turn off". Wait for the phone to vibrate. Charging light is on. If it'd be powering off correctly, it would kind of turn on again to show you the charging screen (battery symbol, then dash symbol). Does not do this for me. Instead it sits there... black. When I remove the charger, the charging light stays on.
To turn the phone on again, I then have to press power about ten seconds (turning it off), and then again to turn it on.
I tried your exact method, and my device shuts down (connected to the power cord, plugged in) normally, and them restarts while holding down the power button in 3 seconds.
When not connected to the dash charger, my device does power down very slowly as described in my earlier post (stock kernel)
My devices is rooted with the blue spark kernel though--so maybe that has some baring in my "normal" shut down/startup behavior.
I have the same bug to you... So I disconnected the cable...
Just wait for the future updates....
Hi,
My Mi5 won't start now. It was having about 60% when I switched on NFC for the first time. I may have switched the NFC on and off a couple of time. Then I inserted the phone into its case , and by mistake the wrong way which might have pressed the power button / volume button , while I was inserting the phone into the case I noticed the phone was turning off. Quickly I realized the phone went the wrong way into the case and I removed and reinserted it and then pressed the power button, but nothing happened. Tried pressing volume up / down / power button but no use. But the phone was warm.
Now, the only sign of life in the phone is when charging it using the regular original charger. The light is initially purple and then turns to green but then it switches off. Tried connecting it to laptop but does not show anything. Also, the safe mode boot method does not work. So, the phone does charge but pressing power button does not turn it on but just makes it warm (some kind of startup loop)
I've been using the phone for last more than 2 years and it has original setup and updates are automatic and regular.
Just don't want to trash the phone if it can be revived.
Looking for advise.
Thanks
