Hello,
I flashed a different custom ROM onto my Mi 8 and now I can't send texts. The message 'Not sent. Tap to try again.' appears.
I can receive fine
It's phone related, not a SIM problem. If I swap SIMs with my old phone, the old SIM won't work on my Mi 8, whereas the Mi 8 SIM will send texts fine on my old phone.
I've tried flashing to other ROMs, but same problem.
Any ideas?

Disable Volte, that"s what did the trick with me, when u disable Volte you cant have internet whilst calling, just saying.
It was happening with all SMS apps.
yafi - turning off VOLTE worked. Thanks a lot. I wonder if there's a fix that allows you to keep VOLTE enabled though. Oh well very relieved to have SMS back, I was using my Redmi Note 3 with a cracked screen for a few days there.

I have the international version of the note 8 and it periodically doesn't receive calls, or texts seem to come sometimes super late and I sometimes have to resend texts because it fails to send the first time. I've tried resetting it, factory reset, rooting and custom rom (2 different ones) and still the same issue. The calls don't show up in my missed calls but the voicemails do show up.
I have had all of the Notes from 1 up to this one, all rooted with custom roms but I can't seem to figure this out. The so not disturb is off, the caller isn't blocked, airplane mod is off, I have no idea! I'm running a T-Mobile sim and using the recommended APN and have also tried the others available. Still having the same issues, if someone can please point me in the right direction I would be so very grateful. Thanks in advance.

Does the same thing happen when you use the same SIM with other devices? If it does then there is an issue with the SIM. If it doesn't I would take your device to a Samsung Service Center and let them take a look at it.
As you can see in the screenshot I am unable to send SMS to anyone. I am using idea cellular sim card. Here's what I have tried:
* Switching to GSM/UMTS/LTE modes
* Checking credits
* Factory reset
* Updating SMS center number
* Switching to different SMS apps
Still cannot send SMS. All I see is "Can't send message with Idea, error 28".
Any help will be appreciated!
Update: Can't send SMS when VOLTE is enabled.
Tried the 2nd slot ? Tried the sim in another phone ? Tried another sim ?
When I first had my mi a2 I had this problem too. Couldn't send SMS to one of my buddies and I was on freedom. Said same thing except freedom instead of idea.
Not sure what fixed it, it sort of just fixed itself after a little bit. U could try switching Sim slots, rebooting ur phone or let them send u a text first.
For me, calling still worked so try to call and tell them to send a text and then try sending one back.
You can't send SMS with volte enabled. Great bug on all Xiaomi phones.

No I'm on pie for a while now. Nothing is fixed in pie update just few new bugs.
My wife has an Redmi note 5 and has the same problem with volte enabled.
It's working fine for me.
JIO in first slot
Vodafone in second.
Used them both.

I have T mobile. I have tried putting my sim in Samsung Galaxy S9 and everything works I even get VoWifi.
So I don't think it's related to network.
It's probably combination of both or rather Xiaomi still isn't officially available in my country.

It only happens on Mi A2. I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 and it is able to send sms via this sim card. But as @rudda said, I have to switch VOLTE off to be able to send SMS.
when volte is on the phone tries to send the sms over ims. here it tries, fails but eventualy sends via signaling so it's just a delay...
if there's a fix i'd like to fix it too...
Hi,
I just got a Mi 9 today and everything works fine (i can receive phone calls normally..) but i noticed that there was a problem with sms messages : i only receive some messages (not all of them) and the ones that arrive are delayed.
And i don't receive apps confirmation messages at all (Xiaomi account, WhatsApp, WeChat...)
I checked the SMSC and it was correct.
I hope someone can help me with this problem.
Thanks
Amine
There are a couple settings you might want to change. If you enable Developer Options there is a Toggle called mobile data always active. Some phones (like those from Google) have this enabled by default. If it's not already enabled I click that setting on. I have never noticed additional data usage on any phone as a result of that being enabled--it just allows for faster network switching.
In WiFi settings you probably have an option to stay connected to WiFi while your phone is asleep. I always enable that as well.
You are probably getting delayed SMS and notifications because the data connection is off when your phone is sleeping--and if your phone is connected to WiFi but your carrier doesn't support WiFi texts then you won't receive texts until your data connection is reestablished.
I would like to bump this subject.
I just purchased a Mi 9 and I have the very same problem as the OP.
Following jhs39 indications didn't help.
Appreciate all the help

SMS does not arrive through DATA connection, as far as I know. It uses plain old GPRS signal. Data is for internet.
Same for me. don't receive apps confirmation messages at all (Xiaomi account, WhatsApp, Facebook. etc

What about APN's?!
Did You check this?!
There must be two APN's, one for data connection (internet) and other of MMS messages only.

I´m having the exact same issue with the Xiaomi Mi 9 T Pro, I can receive SMS from another numbers, but I'm not able to receive sms from big companies (Xiaomi account, Whastapp, Steam) I know is the phone because I put my SIM card on my old phone, and all the company SMS where going through just fine!
Does someone knows the solution from this? I really wanted to use Xiaomi but is getting really difficult and really frustrating at the same time :/
I have a similar problem.
I don't use a Xiaomi's account, so I haven't noticed that problem.
My problem is with Google verification sms.
I don't receive them, or they come much later than they used to on my old phone.
Regards
Gudni
someone managed to solve? My cell phone was working normally and a week ago stopped receiving sms from applications and companies. Please if anyone knows help
I have the same problem since last Thursday... but in my case, it only happens when the SMS is sent from a foreign Phone number; if somebody from my country sends me a SMS it works fine (and, of course, I am able to send SMSs to my country and foreign countries without any problem).
I had the same problem... but i was connected to my VPN.. once i disconnected from the VPN.. everything worked fine
as for me i get sms but NOT MMS. i have defiantly tried a ton of apns and no MMS
Xiaomi is becoming a headache
I have realized that Xiaomi seems to be a good smartphone (mine is a Redmi Note 8 Pro), but at the end it is a very problematic one. Mine never connects to 4G LTE and my SIM card is a valid one which works fine with other phones (Samsung S8, Samsung J7 Neo, Moto G5 plus and Huawei Y7). I have done everything possible that I have read in the internet and I don't get to fix it. I'm about to give up ...
Greetings.
Mi 9, MIUI Global 11.0.5
When in a call, and a call waiting comes in, the phone drops the connection, like the modem has been reset.
Anyone experiencing this or have any clues?
Thanks.

Nope!
I'm not having those issues.
Maybe to look in corresponding SIM Call settings, Call waiting function and check is it activated at all?
Thanks.
Call waiting is activated.

Are you sure?!
Did you check this on operator side, that this option is activated 100%?
If yes, then I will first check SIM card and if this is OK then i will opt for factory reset.
Hi, fantastic day ahead.
Me too facing this issue since more than a month still.
I am using two networks in 2 SIM slots.
I am getting my existing call's voice dropped from my side when i receive a waiting call on screen, but call timer still continues (Call not disconnecting).
This issue is for calls from both the numbers (SIM1 as well SIM2), Then i realised, issue is not from network, it may be from UI of my phone (Redmi note 9 pro max).
Please help me any resolver.
I've flashed PE ok and all's good except for a couple of things. Where's the best place to ask questions of this ROM; here or on Telegram? My problems are;
1. I can't send SMS messages; I just get "can't send error 0'" I've searched this problem but can't find an answer (that works for me) I've only one SMS app installed (Google messages, the PE default) and the SMS center number is correct, and. I've used *#*#4636#*#* to both check and update the SMSC. I have 2 SIMS in the phone and the other SIM can send SMSs ok. I've swapped SIMs over in the slots and that doesn't work. I put the SIM that doesn't work into another phone and I can send messages there. So I don't know what/where the problem is; the phone, the SIM or the ROM??
2. I can't save an emergency contact. In fact, the emergency SOS/personal safety stuff doesn't seem to work at all (I can't set anything up). This is not really a problem for me though but maybe for others.

Yes, well, sending or answering SMSs is kinda important on a phone! It's weird that it's a problem (for some people) on many gsi / roms though, must be due to something deeper in the build..
Fwiw, I've found that the ricedroid ROM sends/answers SMSs so I'm sticking to that one for now until I have more time to experiment. As I mentioned elsewhere, it might be related to VoLTE: riceDroid doesn't have VoLTE.
late reply but works for me
