need a opinion. - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Moto X 2014 flashed aex and it's working great, I did have a problem with the earpiece not working. So it was due a battery change so thought do the ear piece as well. I replaced the earpiece component, changed battery and to my surprise it's still not working? Any thoughts on what it could be. It's a brand new part from a very reputable source and I can't understand why it's not working still

[Q] Speakers??

Im on an eclipse ROM version 2.3.6 and ive noticed a clicking in the background and i thought maybe it was Pandora radio so i just blew it off. I downloaded a scanner app and noticed to same clicking from my speaker. Im wondering if this has anything to do with the ROM and has anyone else been having this issue or does anyone think its the phone? Oh, my speaker phone hasnt been working correctly either.
There have definitely been some anecdotal reports from people online about bad sound or no sound from the external speaker on the Droid 4 and RAZR.
The reason I know this is because I just got a warranty replacement for my Droid 4 because the speaker totally stopped working....

I was hoping it wasn't my phone. I've already replaced one on warrenty not that long after I bought the dang thing. The ear piece speaker was out and when I got my new one it sounded the same but I was thinkin it was just from being rooted. The speakers sound like that with the eclipse, AOKP, gummy and CM ROMS. Ugh fml

Bluetooth stuttering on Moto X

I've got a New Potato Tunelink I've been using with my old Verizon Galaxy Nexus successfully for about a year. Since that time I've gone through several ROMs and Android versions, 4.2.1, 4.2.2 and now 4.3. Bluetooth audio always worked fine with Pandora, Google Music and Pocket Casts.
I got a Verizon Moto X yesterday and while I can pair it with the Tunelink and it plays, music skips, stutters and is unlistenable. Voices sound worse, they're low or deep and also skip and stutter.
I've Googled and found lots of "bluetooth stuttering" threads all over (like this one) but none of the things I've tried have improved the audio. I've turned off wifi, changed wifi settings, tried it with and without the battery saver turned on. I took it out of the box and set it up yesterday, I doubt a factory reset would do anything for me.
I can plug in the stereo minijack and it sounds fine but the Tunelink was supposed to stop the inconvenience of that and did, until the Moto X.
Any ideas? Anyone experiencing the same issue?
I've been using J3 Bluetooth headphones and the moto x has been performing better than my GS4 did. I can put the phone down at my gym and walk 30 feet away and it doesn't skip or degrade.
I don't think it's the phone.
Have you tries re-pairing?

Yes, re-paired several times. If I go back to the Galaxy Nexus it sounds fine.

Just to be clear, I have the Verizon variant of Moto X also. Have you considered trying a replacement Moto x?
Also, the Moto X is bluetooth 4.0 and the Galaxy Nexus is 3.0. Could it be that your headset doesn't play nice with 4.0?

I haven't considered a replacement yet, the fact the stores don't have them is a factor.
Good point about 3.0/4.0, the specs on the Tunelink don't specify, I'll contact them.

Good luck!
Yeah - no problem here as well... Do you have another blu tooth device you can try with?

I have my Galaxy Nexus which works fine.
I ordered this and it should be here today to test out.
I have the same issue with a Motorola Roadster 2. Static is pretty bad when on the phone with other people.
The Kinivo BTC450 Bluetooth Hands-Free Car Kit arrived yesterday and works great. It seems to be the X with the Tunelink. I actually like the Kinivo better as it also allows phone calls and the remote/mic allows me to start/stop music and podcasts.
I also have a Tunelink and am having the same stuttering issue with the audio. Works great with my Nexus 4. Not so much with the Moto X.
+1 for the diagnosis of the Tunelink not playing nice with bluetooth 4.0
I also am experiencing issues with my Moto X and bluetooth. Something tells me it is due to the custom bluetooth 4.0 implementation that Motorola used for Android 4.2.2. I figure that the only "real" fix will be waiting for the 4.3 OTA to add official support.
I tried everything under the sun to resolve my issues. I did a factory reset, un-paired and re-paired, tested on multiple devices and even did a RMA with Verizon. I called up Motorola prior to the RMA and told them about the issue and they said that it was a defective unit. I'm planning on calling them again today to let them know they have an actual issue with at the very least the verizon moto x.
As a follow-up, while my new Bluetooth unit does not stutter and sounds great, my phone now consistently reboots itself after pairing but not until I initiate playing something.
Thankfully the phone reboots quickly.
I am going to wait till the first OTA is released and see if it resolves the issue or not.....if it still has the problem then I'll have to try a 3rd RMA.
I have LG stereo headset, jlabs crasher speaker, and an eclipse headunit and i dont' have any issues with playback. Are you just letting things play or are you messing with the device while playing music? I know on both my Moto X (vzw) and GS3 i'd get some stuttering some times if the phone was under some heavy usage.
I'm experiencing stuttering on my VZW Moto X DE with my Tunelink as well. I had stuttering on my GNex on one version of 4.2.x but all other builds worked fine and it got much better when I upgraded to 4.3, so I'm hoping a new Moto X 4.3 rom will fix this...
Add me to the list of people having the stuttering issue with the Moto X (GSM Dev Edition) and the TuneLink Auto BT unit. Frustrating as hell. I hope the KitKat upgrade fixes it.
Bump. Tunelink is stuttering for me too. Must be incompatible. My tune link is wired to the headphone jack (not using FM transmitter). Sucks.

Not tunelink related but when listening to my Moto X in car with my Alpine UTE-42BT I notice a crazy amount of skipping/stuttering. Doesn't mater what music player I use. If I turn the device off and restart it seems to fix it for a brief time.
I created a post here about my issues. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48496071#post48496071
Anyone else having the same problems or have a solution it's driving me insane!?
apologies i forgot about this thread. i bought my TuneLink over two years ago. i emailed them and they are honoring my warranty by sending out a new revision of the device. its one they're currently working on releasing and i've been on a waiting list to get it.
so far i've sent in my current device and they sent me the same revision. i'm still waiting on the new device, which is supposed to take care of all issues. I have a Vizio soundbar at home and i have no stuttering issues. looking forward to the update.

[Q] Sprint Moto-x call quality?

I recently picked up a Sprint moto-x from amazon. Love the phone, but the call quality was just terrible. I experienced a persistent hissing sound whenever the other party spoke, as well as noticeable delay between speaking, and being heard at the other end. This is in contrast to my old Galaxy S2, which performs flawlessly in the same area (Chicago IL). I ended up returning the phone after two days. I am now considering purchasing another unit, just to confirm it was not a defect in the hardware. Has anybody experienced similar issues? Are there any solutions to this problem?

I'm also on Sprint with a Moto X and haven't noticed any sound issues with calling.

I have had the EVO LTE, Galaxy S4 and Moto X all within the last year. I would definitely agree that there is a sound quality issue with the moto x. I think it has to do with a poor quality earpiece speaker. Bluetooth sounds fine, and speakerphone is okayish. The galaxy s4 sounded the best of the three.
That being said. I'm still choosing to use the Moto X over the S4.

[Q] Horrible distortion through earphones

I got my second N6 last Thursday (the back on my first was coming off before I'd opened the box). I hadn't tried using earphones until last night. To my dismay, the sound was horribly distorted with constant loud electrical noise.
This morning I tried two different sets of headphones at work and they are both just as bad. The noise is there regardless of whether any sound is being made. The speakers work well so it's definitely related to the earphones.
Is there any explanation for this other than faulty hardware?
I'm replying to my own post here but having contacted the retailer and described the issue, they immediately agreed to take the phone back. There was one other very minor issue with this phone in that the SIM tray wouldn't eject but I was able to pull it out using a bent paper clip.
It looks like I shall shortly be on my third Nexus 6 in two weeks. This is a very disappointing start. I have never had to return a phone before so I am not impressed to have to return two Nexus 6s before I have really had the opportunity to use either.

Speakers popping and crackling

Hi, just wanted to hear if anyone else has this problem I have with the speakers. Basically they crackle and pop a lot while listening to some audio (think it's related to lower frequency audio). Here's a video of the problem: https://youtu.be/BG5oJNWJR9k
Here's the test video: https://youtu.be/5V-oI-z1NgI
I've spoken with razer support, but I can't really get a good answer out of them if this is a hardware or software issue. I did manage to get a replacement device, but it has the exact same problem. I also wasn't able to reproduce it on the replacement device while it was still on 8.1 - but it started happening again while upgrading to the latest build.
I remember the RP1 having a lot of issues with the speakers as well, and I had to get it replaced like 5 times to get one that didn't have any problems. Maybe it's the same with the RP2? You'd think they would improve their QA, but if that's the case then I'm assuming they haven't.
Thank you

I just bought the phone knowing full well this could be an issue, but I don't have it yet.
Can you try one thing - There should be a Dolby EQ app and by default it should be set to something like Dynamic Bass Boosted. Try turning that off completely and see if the popping/crackling remains?

Thanks for the suggestion, I did try that and it didn't seem to really matter if I had Dolby on or off - the crackling was definitely still there, even if it was slightly better with dolby off.
Unfortunately the customer service wasn't very helpful either, so I decided to return it to the shop I bought it from and got a refund.
I hope you have more luck with yours though! :good:

Well that's bad news. Mine hasn't shipped yet, I may just cancel the order. The Reddit sub for this phone scared the **** out of me with all the posts about issues.

Yeah, these phones have had a whole bunch of issues. If they ever release a RP3, they definitely need to improve their quality control and after sales support with more regular software updates. Like on the RP1 I was without working Bluetooth for months due to a software bug, luckily this was later fixed, but there's a risk bugs may never be fixed since they seem to abandon their phones after a short while.
It's a shame really, because I really liked the RP1, and I was looking forward to the improved screen and cameras of the RP2. But unfortunately I wasn't a big fan of the glass back, and the cellular/wifi reception was in fact much worse when compared to the RP1.
I could live with those things, but the speaker problem really ruined the experience for me.
