ATT and HD Voice - Moto X4 Questions & Answers

I received an email from ATT informing me that my moto x4 (XT1900-1 running Moto's release of Pie) won't work on their system after they turn off 3G by Feb 2022. From what I can tell from their email and the web site it references this is due to the phone not having HD Voice (the only other requirement was 4G LTE). Is HD Voice just a software thing or does it require hardware as well? If it's just software can I get it by using something other than the Moto ROM?
I'm assuming that I'll lose Moto Voice if I switch to another ROM. My 2005 Honda Pilot doesn't have bluetooth so I use Moto Voice to listen to texts while I'm driving.
Thanks,
Mike

Just to post an update to this, from what I've found online it appears that the x4 will support VoLTE (HD Voice) but ATT has chosen not to enable it.
There have been some articles about the email and how it really didn't point out that you have about a year or so to deal with this.

[ANSWERED] Moto Droid + google voice(or talk?) over wifi

I have a moto droid which is no longer active with Verizon(that $30 a month was getting to be a bit much) and would like to use google voice to make calls. On install, it gives an option to use google voice for calls, but when I actually try to make one it routes me to Verizon's "we're sorry, this phone isn't in service" message.
I understand that this isn't really the intended use, but I can use google talk to make a call from my PC, why will it not let me use the same service from my droid. Is this a quirk of the device or a limitation from Verizon or google?
I'm using the latest Bugless Beast, if it makes a difference, though I have also tried with CM7 build 3 and CM 6.1.2.

Ah, nevermind. I figured it out myself. This is not possible with google voice alone, but I grabbed Sipdroid off the market. When paired with a google voice account(set to ring to gtalk as well as any other phone numbers) works rather well as a wifi phone. There is a bit of a delay sometimes in making a call, but no serious problems. call quality is quite good.

Google Voice with AT&T Moto X?

Hi all, I'm currently on a GS3 with Verizon and Google Voice integration works well, I. E. Receive calls from GV number as well as using GV for voicemail and transcription (instead of Verizon voicemail).
Are there any gotchas or differences to be aware of in setting up GV with Moto X on AT&T? Or with any phone on AT&T for that matter?
Thanks!

Not really but I would just disable visual voicemail which is preinstalled. Other than that it's no different
No problem for me either. Indeed, you might want to disable/remove/uncheck all AT&T preloaded apps.
Oddly, I see to be having issues with getting Voice to work on my phone. It's not picking up at all as the default voicemail. I've tried uninstalling it and going through the setup again - and the phone still shows that Voice is the voicemail - but the phone will ring forever unless I manually reject the call. Anyone else experiencing this?

Do you have it properly forwarding the call to your google voice number? That needs to be edited in the phone settings.

Yeah, in the phone settings it lists google voice as the voicemail provider.
Just wanted to update - my issue was that when I swapped to this phone, AT&T forgot to enable voicemail to it. So now it's working again.

I had the same issue. I just got off the phone with customer service and they had to put the vm soc back on my account.
Wonder how many other people have the same issue and haven't realized it yet?

Google voice works just fine on my moto x also.
But after 2 years of using google voice; Im finally getting rid of it. Im tired of the MMS headaches. Tired of waiting for google to find a solution.
This may or may not help anyone. But Google voice on all my phones and my nexus 4 worked great for years. Recently my ATT accountgot hhacked and my entire account had to be re provisioned. This defaulted to the newer voicemail service and Googlevoice no longer can register. So instead iI just set all forwarding to my Google voice number and it functions the same way.
Supposedly getting ATT to put me back on the old style voicemail is a difficult task to convincethe reps to do. Take ffor what its worth. This is my nexus 4 too and Google voice just can't register as voicemail for some reason.

[Q] Pairing Moto X with a Lexus - Phone works but not Messaging & Emails

I feel like I'm on the "Bleeding Edge" but here goes...
I recently bought a Moto X from Verizon, which I think is a great phone. I also recently bought a 2013 Lexus GS350, which has the capability of displaying messages & emails from the phone on-screen. Although the phone pairs happily with the car and I can make & receive calls, neither messages nor emails come through.
The Lexus web site doesn't yet list the Moto X (surprise) and from what I've read what's needed is "MAP as one of the Bluetooth profiles". People have reported it working on a few phones, e.g. Blackberry Z10, Blackberry Curve and Galaxy SII.
Is there a way I can tell if my Moto X has MAP? If anyone has any info, even if I can't do anything but hope for some future update, I'd appreciate it.

Data not available

Whenever I get a phone call while not on WiFi the below image pops up and causes the screen to lock. How do I get rid of it???
No ideas?
Until Verizon's LTE calling update some time this fall, the Moto X can't support voice and data at the same time.
No such problem on AT&T....
Just like Chris said, VZW needs to release a sw update so we can have Advance Calling(http://phandroid.com/2014/09/20/verizon-moto-x-launch-without-simultaneous-voice-data/). Until then, you have to be on wifi if you want to simultaneously talk and surf...
I understand that there needs to be an update, is there anyway to get rid of that message? It screws up answering and hanging up calls. Thanks
This "feature" is one of the reasons I switched back to the HTC One M8... Not being able to use Data and Voice at the same time is so 10 years ago - no clue why the hell they took a step back like this. I really like the moto X 2014, but with that "feature" and bluetooth not working properly (stuttering when playing music) I just can't use the device. - Additionally root/native tethering without paying for it are show stoppers. All stuff I can do with the m8, hopefully the Nexus 6 isn't impeded by the same shortcomings of the moto x
I've noticed everything you said as well. I'm going to give the X to my wife to replace her GS4 and just get the nexus. When the X was ordered they hadn't announced that it would be on VZW yet...

Question S21 Visual Voicemail

Is there an updated version for visual voicemail on the S21? I can't seem to get any of the guides / apk from here to work. They either show a not supported message or constantly crashes.
I'm also using the U1 firmware.
Have you tried to use google voice. I switched over to g voice years ago and have never had any issues when switching phones.
