Hello,
A few weeks ago I have updated my S10 SM-G973F from Android 10 to Android 11 with the official version that came over OTA. Since then a huge battery drain started and this appears only after I manually check for new Firmware update or if the phone does this automatically. The battery drain stops after restarting the phone. Clearly the OTA update process started to have issues.
Does anyone else have this issue? Also any hints how to resolve this (resetting the phone is not an option).
Thanks

Try to find the apps that drains your Battery in the Battery Manager and Kill those. Also try to Kill background services which may have came as a part of Software Update which is draining your battery.
Even you can try to install Greenify app which helps in removing Background Apps/Services
Link for Greenify App : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oasisfeng.greenify&hl=en_IN&gl=US
The battery manager doesn't show any app that uses more battery than usual. This is the thing I do not like on android since version 9... only the installed apps are listed but the systems apps are not listed as using any battery.
I will have a look over Greenify. In the meantime I have clear the data and cache for the update apps. Maybe it helps.
Try GSam Battery Monitor. If you're rooted, get the Root Companian App. If not, there's an ADB workaround to give the app access to battery protocols and show system level apps.
Try clearing system cache.
Clear updates data.
You could disable updates.
Hard reset; reload the OS. Best practice after a major firmware update.
Cleaning of the cache has not helped but I have found a solution. I have restricted the background usage for the update process so it only starts when I manually trigger it. At least now the battery drain starts only when I manually trigger the update. Of course after I do this I am also restarting the phone to resolve the problem.

I know this was a while ago, but can you explain how to disable background checking for updates? I've been dealing with this battery drain for months and it's crazy.

Hello,
Since updating my Sony Xperia T (UK unbranded phone) to Android 4.3, I have noticed a significant decrease in my battery life.
I have already re installed the software (version 9.2.A.1.199) when it was released in April twice due to various problems after updating.
Please can someone tell me if these stats are typical?
My 'Screen' time when I took this screenshot was only 17 minutes - I pretty much hadn't used the phone today.
I have also been at work all day where I have full signal.
I have pretty much uninstalled every app on my phone, except Facebook.
Many thanks
Katie
It seems not to be ok. Reset your phone by holding power and volume up button together. Use your phone normally, battery needs time to settle after few cycles.
Edit: Didn't see that Google Play Services drain so much battery, uninstall updates of it and update it again, and it should work then.
4.3 is a software designed to let interested 3. parties know any minute what are you doing and where you are, much more than it was under 4.12.
Enable Stamina mode. Install a program that provides the capability to select startup items. Manage location reporting to the minimum required. Install Greenify, and then sleep apps that you don't use that much, or resources monsters like Facebook when not needed. Install an older version of Google Play Services.
Wasn't .199 the first version of 4.3?
Hi,
I know there are many topics on the subject but I didn't find any solution to my problem.
So, since a couple weeks, about when I moved from Europe to the US, my phone drains significantly more battery than before. This has apparently nothing to do with screen brightness, wifi or cell data, since it occurs even in airplane mode during the night. I used to lose about 1-2% during a night, but now it's at least 15%.
You can find a couple screenshots from BetterBatteryStats there (sorry for broken link, it does not work otherwise): n.ethz.ch/~bauera/uploads/Screenshots/
So as I noticed, there are a couple wakelocks but nothing that could explain this large drain. Any idea what could be the reason and how to fix it?
FYI I am using the stock rom 23.4.A.1.232 with Android 5.1.1. Phone model is D5803. The OS was rooted directly when I got the phone in October 2015 and as I said, I did not have any battery problems until recently.
Thanks for your help!
Alex
that's the lollipop battery drain bug on mobile radio, marshmallow should have fix this
Thank you for your reply. However are you sure of that? The bug you are mentioning is apparently linked with mobile data, which I haven't even turned on since a couple reboots at least. Moreover, the battery stats for the night (from the built-in battery menu) show that the mobile network was fully off during that time (airplane mode).

I found this fix worked for me
Thanks for the suggestion! Unfortunately it didn't work in my case, I still lose about 2%/h in airplane mode and screen off.

BBS - Better Battery Stats is your freind. There's also lots of tips in the thread on how to limit most of the common wakelocks.
There are several services in the new Play Services that are keeping your phone awake. With the introduction of wearable bluetooth there are new fitness services that are looking for your wearable devices constantly, disable them and your battery gets better. Obviously if you use fitness bands/trackers then this fix is not for you.
If you have a rooted phone download Disableservice from the playstore, it's a lot easier to use than Xprivacy and you don't need to install Xposed.
Once it's installed, open the system tab, open Google Play Services, then untick (disable) the following:
ConfigFetchService
FitnessSyncAdapterService
GoogleLocationManagerService
GoogleLocationService
NetworkLocationService
ProximitySettingInjectorService
UserPresenceService
WearableControlService
WearableService
WearableSyncService
then reboot your phone.
Disabling these from running should have no impact on your phone, it doesn't for me, and will give you 10-15% more battery life.

Solved Battery drain for Me
I was also suffering from the same battery drain issue, but after doing a lot of research on this forum, few tricks mentioned here worked for me.
It had been 6 days I bought the phone, so was very disappointed by battery life, did upgrade from PC to Lollipop, but still the problem persisted and even worse. So I decided to go back to Kitkat and followed steps here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-c...d5833-t2906706
After downgrade the battery got somewhat better not satisfactory, so I followed the trick of complete drain upto 0% and charge to 100% (switchded off) after reading posts: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-c...5#post59797105 by Sydr08 #182
and cache clearing trick after 0% to 100% charge http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-c...harge-t3207737
After doing 100% charge I turned ON with vol+ pressed but phone did not respond (I guessed that it didn't worked, so switched ON normally) but after booting I found few settings to be reset so I guess it worked
So finally this trick seems to work for me, now the drain has slowed down to a lot extent. I have used phone regularly (calls, games, whatsapp, Music etc), the battery has dropped to 76% in around 8 hrs ( without stamina mode ) just expecting it to last for two days, and more than that with satmina mode.
Firmware: .77 (India)
Model: D5833
Hi Aakm,
As you said, the tricks mentioned so far on this thread were not really effective, at least for me as well. I could live with that 25-30% left at the end of the day (it is still much better than my old Samsung GS2), but I would be glad to be back to the 2-3 days of moderate use as I had during my first months of ownership.
So I'll try this out over the next days and hopefully it will work, thanks for suggesting! It sounds a bit like magic to me but let's give it a try
Best regards,
Alex
Unfortunately the full drain+charge did not change anything for me. I did not try to downgrade to Kitkat but as I've had good battery on Lollipop for several months, I doubt it would help.
Anyway thanks for your help, but I guess I'll simply wait until Android M comes out and take the opportunity for a full factory reset, hoping it will solve the issue.
Please guys mark the star on the bug report, the more people agree, higher will be the chance that google decide that it's time to fix it

Hello everyone,
I received Oreo update 3 days ago and I have noticed that my battery is draining since that update. For instance, when I use facebook it drains by 1% every 2 minutes and it was not like that before update. What should I do?
I really need to go back to nogut.
Any help?

I had the same when I first installed Oreo.
Then I went to Settings, Device maintenance , Battery, Battery usage and found that android system drained my battery. I un-ticked "Allow background activity" and fixed draining.
You may also give it some time to calibrate battery measurement.
After 6 days with Oreo, I can say it's a little bit better than Nougat regarding battery.

Thank you for your reply. I also noticed that Yesterday. Is it ok not to allow Android System in the background? Would that affect the usage of the phone?
Thank you again for your interest.

if you are not rooted then just flash your nougat file through odin... don't use home_csc...use csc...and others are pretty like same...
I'm facing this as well. I disabled all apps using background process.
Let's see it will solve this issue.

Do you use the built-in app power monitor in settings/battery?
Use Betterbatterystats to see what's going on. Additionally, try a day or two with wifi turned off. I had huge battery drains on nougat when wifi was on and with it off I got 5 days on a single charge!! Maybe the same bug carries over to Oreo? Not sure, but worth a try if you can afford the data usage.
I'm having the same issue, and it's not like Device Maintenance and BetterBatteryStats are showing anything suspicious at all. One night idle time is nice, then on other nights i find it having a decrease of 15%.

Your Android System drain is way too high...something wrong there for sure...
If you haven't already, do a full wipe/ factory reset. This fixes most problems, including battery drain, after a major update.

Have you tried better battery stats? Do you use the app power monitor in the Note 8 settings at all? It's got to be some of your apps or saved settings...

Wow!! Android system is killing it. Dude, I had the same issue on nougat. Not sure if it'll work on Oreo, but try it: turn off wifi completely. Use cellular if you can for a day or two. Do this after a full recharge so battery stats have resetted so you can see if that makes a difference.
Also, use Betterbatterystats and give it permissions on adb. Post screenshots from that. The one you posted already isn't telling at all.
I downgraded it to Nogut and I think I am fine now. F**k this update. I think this company is intending this sh*t to push up its sales.
Fix for battery drain for Note 8 after upgrading Oreo
1) Go to settings
2) Go to Apps
3) Click on the three dots located in the upper right hand corner.
4) Select "Reset App Preferences"
5) Power your phone off and on again and the battery draining problem should be fixed.

Yes. I am on my phone right now and have been on YouTube this evening with normal battery drain. After the update yesterday my battery was draining for no reason and I had to charge my phone three times. I remembered this fix from the last update when I didn't want to reset my device. I figured it had something to do with all of the Apps utilizing my location, so I wanted to do a reset of the Apps without resetting my device and it worked.
After updating to 9.1.0.252 I noticed faster battery drain. Did any of you experience the same behavior? I'm thinking to go back to 9.0.1.
Thanks
I feel the same

I noticed faster battery drain on my ltr-09 as well. All is fine now. I noticed when i first upgraded location was turning on alot almost like it was learning when to turn on. Then it levelled out. Example opening google now at first it always turned on my gps now it doesnt. When i was on 9.01 i left my phone on battery saving for gps. You cant on 9.1 and i have seen alot of apps that used to be good with battery saving location now going for full with gps. Big bttery drain. Those were the differences i found. What I believe solved my battery drain was actually my battery getting all screwed up. I had this happen when i would switch roms and my battery stats would get all messed up. I solved it before and solved it this time with my p10 by running the thing right dead. Then pluging it in overnight with it turned off (no fast charging) Then I did it again the next night drained to dead , plug in charge with off ( no supercharging) and my battery life is better again. Hope this helps. EDIT After a few days of testing i still felt the battery was better but battery life still wasnt right. I did a factory installed minimal apps. Battery life was good until play store updated carrier services. I uninstalled updates to carrier services, disabled auto update. Then i actually disabled carrier services completely. Battery seems good now. From what i read carrier services is for next gen texting. Saw online others were having issues with this update.

Wrong, batteries get older with time and charging cycles. Updates have nothing to do with it and if you notice a drain right after one - it has nothing to do with the condition of the battery, it's the update's fault.
updates are huawei's way to convince you to buy a new phone
first they borked the camera, now they are messing with battery
I managed to improve battery life a little bit by disabling apps running in background and disabling unnecessary location permissions for several apps like @bigshowjh said. Like @bigshowjh said I found apps resetting their permission or settings after update. Still the battery life is not like it was before updating with the same usage behavior.

I have ran a couple of days with very good battery life. 11.5 hrs with 62 percent left. Seems like it used to be with Oreo. Overview of all I did was as follows. Clear cache partition, factory reset . Uninstalled Google Chrome (used Firefox instead) set carrier service to factory in apps three dots advanced. Disabled automatic update of carrier services in play store, then in settings apps disabled carrier services completely. Went through and disabled network access to every app that doesn't need it. I don't use Facebook or Facebook Messenger apps. I use them through my browser. Oddly chome on pie is a battery killer as well. I'm very satisfied with proformance of my P10 again.
My GPS is pretty much always off (unless I really need it) and the battery level still goes down by 9% during the night. It used to be 3-4%.
I cannot find carrier service anywhere.
In my case I can't see power hungry apps in the stats, standby process uses the most energy.

Settings, apps, apps again, select three dots in upper right, select show system processes. You will find it there it's a little hidden lol.
Still no carrier services for Play Store.
I got a new note 9 for black Friday and updated it to the latest version of Pie. However after this I've noticed the battery seems to drain 1% every 5-10mins with wifi enabled on idle (even in flight mode/no-sim). I haven't switched over from my old phone yet so don't really have any new apps installed. I've tried a factory reset and clearing cache but still seems to be the same. The drain is even worse when actually using the phone or web browsing. With wifi turned off, idle time seems good(1% drain in 10hrs).
Anyone else experienced the same or know how I can find out what is causing this? I've spelt the last hour or so going through every thread, and here's what I've tried:
-Disabling background data usage on most apps
-Uninstalling non-essential bloat via adb
-Disabling auto account syncs
-Using wifi power saver & safe mode
-Using medium power saver mode
You probably flashed a messed firmware, why don't you try One UI 2.0?
They say battery is awesome there.
Mainly, when using WiFi, everything in phone starts running in background, check updates, download updates, ...
If you only want Pie, Uninstall Google Play Services, Join their beta program, and update to latest beta (or you can do it manually).

I've haven't used any custom firmware yet, just ota updates for now. One UI 2.0's beta program isn't available in my country yet, though the stable version should be here next month I hear. Thanks, will try the google play beta program. I've also been reading about battery historian, may give it a try to see if I can pinpoint what is actually causing the issue if that doesn't work.
