hey out there, No Hands - Introductions

My name is Rodney and I wasn't much into the mobile technologies, until for like a year or so I kept getting violated with remote control. With not much money, but loving my new tech, I decided I would have to learn how to defend myself, and it has been a blast the few years for me getting very good at stopping my neighbor from installing hijacker viruses and remote software, there is much more I've learned but mostly self taught

Welcome to xda.
Good to hear you defeated your neighbor's attacks, and had fun doing it.
Hope your neighbor moves.
Cheers.

Anybody in here a computer technician for a district?

How you liking it? I've been one for a year and can honestly say, teachers suck. They bug so much and expect me to cater to them the second they want me too.
\end of vent/
I'm not a computer tech for a district but a private company, and basically that sentiment isn't just held for teachers ... TRUST ME.
Oh brother, tell me about it. It's 2011. Computers are in everything. A lot of people don't know how to use them at all.
Via My HTC Evo 3D On The Now Network From Sprint.
Times must have changed since i was at school. My year were the first to get a 'computer class' complete with some pretty rudimentary PCs and an IT teacher. He was the only person who knew how to work the equipment so was probably the most important person there!
Now i bet there are kids in the IT class who could show the Teachers a thing or two about computing! And the tech guys that we are talking about here are, of course, going to encounter the old 'head-repeatedly-meets-wall syndrome'!
All i learned from my classes was some basic Binary, and how to do data entry to the extent of building a searchable database. In short, like the rest of my classes, i learned nothing at all! I do have a friend that does IT support on a University campus and he really likes it though.
Edit: am i on topic or off topic with that post? My train of thought kinda got derailed!

Dissection in High Schools

Hey everyone! I have an assignment about the topic of the ethics of dissecting animals in high school science class. I have a survey that asks about one's opinion on this topic. I thought it would be interesting to see what XDA members think about dissection in high schools so I would greatly appreciate it if you guys took a few minutes to fill out my survey on Google Forms. It would also be quite cool to hear about your experiences with dissection while you were in high school so feel free to start a conversation about that in this thread. Thanks everyone!
Here's the link to the survey: http://goo.gl/forms/xU2gjBTaQi
Over here animals used in labs for the purpose of education and study are never killed for that purpose. They're all roadkill, natural causes, diseased, etc. (This is in Western Europe, the law does not allow the killing of animals for laboratory pruposes.)
By dissecting an animal, people learn that animals are living creatures made of the same parts as themselves. That is a very important lesson, because the idea of humans being 'more' than animals, either special or better or 'god's favourite', is what leads to animal cruelty.
I always found it highly educational. Except the one time with the tarantula. I bloody hate spiders, dead or alive.
It also gives kids a stomach for blood, a great little reality check, a slap in the face about mortality, and it never fails to leave a lasting impression. Given the attitude of high school kids, that's a knock off their high horse they sorely need. If they cry and vomit, all the better. Life isn't pretty, welcome to the real world.
(A good friend of mine is a medical examiner, I sometimes help out as her assistant when they're short on staff, since I have had basic medical training. It's one of the reason why I do not care for someone's skin colour; I've seen up close that all humans look exactly the same inside their skin and when they're dead.)
I think dissection is fine, and is helpful if the dissector can handle the gore.
I grew up on a farm where we grew angus cattle, and lived off the meat we got from them. I was around during all the process, from the cow being shot, to the final cuts of meat being done. We also sometimes got a pet pig with the full intention of growing it out to eat.
When we started doing dissection I had no problem doing it, though I had a close friend who would stand in the corner, due to him not being able to stomach the gore. I always found dissection interesting, and it helped enforce the knowledge I had learned beforehand, however it was no use at all to the people who couldn't handle the gore.

I COULDN'T HAVE SAID IT ANY BETTER MYSELF. However I believe more needs to be done at younger ages to ease them into things like this, if you only get shown the gore etc in one full hit when your older, your more likely to be completely against it.
Overall people should be less sensitive, and dissection is good for learning

Suggestion for my career guys

My bachelors degree is a mere waste in contrast to d interest i have in, In fact i'm not yet graduated & almost on verge of drop out from college due to lack of interest in d degree i'm pursuing on Civil Engineering.
My basic interest lies in tech which was limited to non technical stuff or basic stuff and have almost zero knowledge in programming but have a urge to master machine learning which is grabbing my mind a lot but have no idea where to start.
May be i sound little crazy as a guy who dreams high but practically applies nothing, Due to hectic schedule & examinations in my college, I wasted my valuable 1st two years due to lack of guidance, & from last 18 months i'm badly into learning about mobiles, android, PC stuff but that is limited to non technical, which even a layman could do if he has interest.
I'm from India and planning to do Masters in US. XDAis the only place i know where i can interact with great programmers who have accomplished something practically,
I'm aiming towards machine learning, So any suggestions where should i start from or any specific forum suggestion where i could get better help other than quora or reddit
Thanx for u'r time and waiting for u'r valuable advice

Hey!

Just recently started using this website to get to know how to root, twrp, all that good stuff for the first time and the support I have had has been amazing and the community seems really active like I litterally got a reply to my comment in under 10 mins after posting it don't even remember the last time that happened all in all happy to be here
Welcome to xda.
Good to hear you are enjoying xda.
It is a very active site and normally someone can give you an answer or help find one.
Glad to have you part of the xda family.
Cheers.
Yes it was quite the learning experience, I had to use the knowledge I had learned through the years to actually conceptualize how to deploy a defense and anoffense. DESPITE HOW I FEEL ABOUT IT NOW: I would never put anyone else hrougu that though. These days we've become, as a society, very dependent on our technologies, I'm some cases if you don't have access or knowlefhe of the most basic components, it could cost a meal, or where you lay your head at night. Let's see, I lost 4 smartphones, 2 tablets, half my hair went grey, the other half just gave up and fell out, and it cost me 2 job opportunites that will not be around in my near future. Having the knowledge of technology is great, having the wisdom, the experience in wether to deploy it, or make it what it's for are two different beast, I think people initially don't feel that there hurting anyone by using technology to get back at them, but if they put themselves in the shoes the person is about to walk in, is the punishment balancing what it will cost them in real life because of the lost communication, job, or relationship? Just because it's not a knock out drag out fight doesn't mean it won't sting
So essentially what I am saying is that it has become the right hook, body slam, forrgose that can't actually do that to someone, but there is a degree of social responsibility, that needs to be assessed. If I deploy a hijacker virus on someone because they said something I didn't like, and that person supported their family with Uber, depending on how long I kept the hijack up I might just help that dude get an eviction, no technology, no phone, no way or getting fares, etc, etc.....

Hey

I'm mimosa (or John in the default world). Been here before under various names off and on for years, but not in years. It's mimosa like the tree, not the drink. I live in Oakland, CA and am running for mayor (I'll keep the politics off here). I'm currently running a public benefit corporation with the aim of bridging the enormous devide between the public at large and the homeless.
Since getting covid and mennengitus last year, I became homeless after spending most the year in ICU in San Francisco. I was dumbfounded that most of this community can't change there ringtone if they even have a phone, let alone use the internet to look for work or housing.
Before the pandemic, I founded this company (Printing Properties Limited-corporate) along with the son of the founder of burning man to develop a "3d" concrete printer to drive the cost of housing down, so as to house the homeless. Rebuilding the printer is a goal of mine, but it has expanded to other areas as well.
I am interested in exploring/developing a mod that makes cell usage... less technical I guess is a way to put it... for the technological illiterate.
I just started a repurposing electronics division. I figure hands on application with electronics is easier to start with than trying to teach code strait out of the gate. I also repurpose batteries to use with solar/wind/geo-thermal energy systems.
Ill be here frequently now and, as you can see, love to talk. So feel free to send suggestions, advice, comments, and political banter my way.
Be good to each other,
John Marks
Welcome to xda.
Sad to hear about your recent problems.
Happy you survived 2020 and now part of the xda family.
I just rewatched a video about 3D concrete printing that YouTube found for me a few months ago.
It is an interesting project and it seems there has been quite a bit of advancement in the last few years.
If I knew before, I forgot that it started out in the early 2000's.
People getting confused with settings on devices is not a new thing.
I might be dating myself but, there were a lot of people who had 12:00PM flashing on their VCR.
Not sure about making cell phones less technical, maybe an app that can set the adjustments on a phone.
Nice easy to use UI with explanations of each option.?
Your repurposing division sounds interesting.
Are you recycling lithium/hybrid batteries?
From what I have read, their is advancement in that field also.
Best of luck on your personal/career endeavors.
Cheers.
