Hello and welcome to XDA!
I guess you have checked this
[APP][1.6+] MM Tracker
Hi, i created an App called 'MM Tracker' which is able to read QCT maps from Memory Map from SD Card and displays them. The current GPS position is displayed and tracks can be recorded, saved and (re)loaded. There is a free version called 'MM...

AndNav is available for free from the Market or from andnav.org.
You can choose from several different map providers and get spoken directions if you install the Text-to-Speech libraries. Navigation is processed remotely by the University of Bonn so you do need 3G coverage to use it effectively.
I've used it once or twice and it's quite good; however as it's free it doesn't include UK postcodes that aren't in the FreeThePostcode open database
Destinator will be available soon : http://android.smartphonefrance.info/actu.asp?ID=190

I've tested andNav2 as well. You CAN add offline maps, they're available for download here:
http://www.andnav.org/index.php/downloads/maptile-packs/
A how to install is included in the rar file
Oh yes, there's TeleNav as well, but that app is paid. $99 a year.
Destinator 9 is available according to a press release http://www.intrinsyc.com/about_us/press_releases/2009/06_03_2009.aspx, but i can seem to find a way to download it. Anyone got any ideas?
This is great news having a good GPS app available
can andnav be used only in the uk or worldwide?
There is a list of covered countries on the AndNav Website. There are a lot of countries on it...

Judging from their website, this destinator appears to be a proper OFFLINE nav system, if so, that means that we *finally* have a *real* nav system available. This is awesome.
Are andnav maps accurated? i have been surfing though some openstreet maps and they have only main streets marked... at least in my town in Spain (400,000 inhbt)
I think this is the main android's handicap, not having a real gps door to door solution like tomtom or navigon
I'm looking at the Magic/Sapphire for my wife and the only sticking point has been turn-based navigation. If Destinator 9 is truly an offline navigator then that's made the decision so much easier.

Andnav doesn't support where I'm from (Hong Kong)... therefore I will settle with offline maps.
If you are interested, Andnav can take maps created from TrekBuddy Atlas Creator - which is available for download from Andnav's website, and from this app you can select maps from many sources e.g. openstreet, google map, etc.. and create an offline map.
Offline maps is NOT "settling". It is the BEST thing. Online maps are terrible because 1a) they use data (which is expensive), 1b) require a data plan, 2) are dependent on network availability/infrastructure/other people's equipment.
#2 creates a huge SAFETY problem. Say you're out in the middle of nowhere or there has been some kind of disaster and there is no cell coverage or data network availability. You are on your way to somewhere and you are low on fuel, and maybe there is a dying person or a woman in labor in your back seat. Now your path is blocked -- fallen tree or washed out road lets say. At this point, you can't navigate because there is no data and you don't know your way around the problem. What do you do? You hope that you have a paper map (unlikely), you press the "reroute" button on your OFFLINE navigator, or you let the person in the back seat die or give birth or whatever.
ROFL, best argument for a feature I have read in a long time!
/sarcasm
Yeah, I wonder how we've been able to survive as a race for this long without GPSes
/sarcasm off
But put back in today's society (read assisted people) it's a pretty good point.
Dose anybody know when Destinator 9 is actually being released. After searching all I found was the same information:
"Destinator has been announced for Android and should be released in June"
or something like that. I couldn't find anymore information.

quick question guys!

hey guys. my girlfriend just got a mytouch and i was wondering if there are any apps out there that require two android devices. i think theres one where you can track another android device and see where she is at. i just dont know the name of that app. any help is appreciated.
there are lots of apps that do exactly what youre referring to. some of the are even built in. latitude in maps, for example, will show you the last updated location of the device using the function. there are also programs like GPS tracker which use a web interface for the same thing.
also, with the new CM builds, bluetooth filesharing would require two bluetooth enabled devices.
are there any games that can be played android vs. android??

[Q] android auto compatible apps?

Is there any resource for finding a list of "android auto" compatible apps? I should (hopefully) be getting a 8100NEX tomorrow (to use with my nexus6.) However, I can't seem to find a current list of compatible apps. For example, I'd like to find a music player (not Google's play music - the 1000 track playlist limit is too... limiting) that'd work with it.
Thanks
Gary

I emailed Doubletwist asking if they are going to have an Android Auto update and they haven't responded.

Honestly, this looks more like an advertisement for android auto than a "live" (and updated) list. I appreciate the reply nevertheless.

I hope so, but for example: WhatsApp, Facebook and so on I can´t use with Android Auto and I would think these apps are the apps with the fastest update rate.

Hi Gary. Try going to appradioworld.com and click on the app tab. You'll find a list for android and apple that is stated to be continually updated.

Only messaging and audio playback apps. Mainly because (according to the developer docs) these are the only API's currently available to developers. This will undoubtedly be expanded on; there is another category of apps (car related) that no API's exist for at this point.
But how long will it take? If you compare it to Wear, probably the better part of a year. And it seems Wear was much more finished in the first place. This is a little disturbing. No one buys the initial run of Auto compatible units because Auto is so unfinished, and manufacturers loose interest. Hopefully, that will not be the case, but I for one am on the fence for now.

The lastest release of the Android Auto app has a link to the available apps.
Where can I get the latest version? In Germany the app isn´t available in the Playstore.

Best place for all Google APKs: http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/android-auto/
Install manually and it should work, but keep it up to date.
I had a problem where AA refused to start because there was a newer version on Play. But it wouldn't download due to my country not being whitelisted. Some day it might refuse to work at all without the right parameters.
This could happen in the middle of a trip, or at least after a car restart.
Of course almost everyone had fun recently with an accidental development release that showed numbers and emails all over the screen.
Hello,
thanks for the link.
When I try to take a look which apps are supported the result is "No result." (Germany, also with United States VPN)
Perhaps you can post a list of the supported apps?
Facebook will never be allowed on Android Auto.

Android Auto is designed to Auto safety guidelines that are very strict. Facebook is not something someone should be using in a car.
What is the diffrence between Facebook and WhatsApp and ICQ what is supported?!

Android Auto supports "Messaging" (and "Media").
So if Facebook could do an app or extension limited to text messaging with text to speech and speech to text, then AA could support that I guess.
No looking at pictures/videos or posting them or doing text on screen for sure.
But the app would have to be approved by Google, for distraction, and whatever else suits their business goals.
I wish Waze was supported. I would rather use it than Google Maps.

Q: How to stop Android Auto deactivating the car's build-in navigation?

Hi all,
I've posted this question already in the AA product forum without success. Hopefully there is a higher willingness for strange requests here @ XDA.
I'm using AA for Google Maps navigation and Spotify in my VW e-Golf.
At the same time I would love to display the VW Discover Pro map with POI's on my Active Info Display (virtual cockpit).
It works well with AA home screen, Spotify playback, phone, even with Google Maps as live map only.
BUT if you start a routing in Maps the VW map on the Active Info Display turns black and shows something like 'Navigation is running on main screen' or so.
Does anybody know a setting / hack / trick to switch this behaviour off?
Thanks
Axel
I found that using Waze instead of Google Maps allows me to do this. Maybe not an exact solution, but it does work.
There is the same problem with Waze in my car. Waze as moving map is okay but if you start a routing the AID map is turning black.
Maybe I need to explore if I can change any setting by OBDII coding...
Thanks anyway
I have the same problem in my Passat B8. When I use Android Auto navigation, I see on the AID screen that navigation is already running in Google Maps. It would be nice to be able to see VW maps on a virtual cockpit, and even better to see Google maps there, although with current software it is not real.
I will be grateful if you find a way to do it and share it here.

For sure it works with Waze and screen mirroring (I use it all the time) but maybe not with Waze directly through Android Auto.
I suppose it is not possible since Android Auto manages "navigation focus" of the car. Once you launch Google Maps/Waze, Android Auto asks the car to turn off built-in navigation.
Has anyone tried to access the GEM (green menu)?
Maybe there is an option to let the head unit ignore the navigation focus request.
Hi. Yes I've been in to the engineering menu and there is no option for this.
Subscribing.
I have Passat B8, I can have VW maps on dash, with Waze navigating, Google maps will not work.
Start car, plug in phone, AA starts, go to Waze, select destination. Then bring up VW Discover Pro map on dash.
Dont know how to get POI on VW Discover Pro map on dash.
Has anyone found a solution to this? Searches haven't turned up much. No problem if root is needed.

I think the solution has been given. Use android mirroring, then use waze or Google maps or sygic or any other program through mirroring, not Directly through android auto .
This way it will work. I haven't try it, but someone above said it worked.
Would be really nice if someone discover a fix for this.... I am an audi owner with virtual cockpit and is very frustrating to see the compass icon while using google maps.... and I don't have a mirroring solution....
What do you mean by android mirroring?
Until recently Waze had a bug with the new Android Auto interface and did not disable the car navigation.
Maybe a route to investigate for a dev? I’d pay& kill for such a tweak.
For reference: android mirroring means mirroring the whole screen of the phone to the Head unit and thus being able to "remote" control it. (basically project the phone to the center console)
There are a few apps that can do this, Google is your friend
I drive a Polo mk6 (AW) and there is a workaround using Waze, that I've just accidentally found.
- on steering wheel set Nav to show on Active Display dash
- plug your phone and start AA normally
- if not already, open Waze and start a route, next hit STOP, and then start the route again.
- now both, integrated Nav should be displaying on AID dash and Waze with your route on Composition Touch.
hope it helps
Years later but finally solved!
I found the MIB2 Toolbox already some years ago but found nothing to activate the AID map while using Google Maps.
Meanwhile the genius guys managed to patch the MIB2 head units to ignore the phone navigation status.
It really works - and some other nice feature too, like VIM

Don't know if I remember everything...
- You should not use the official release 4.1 - this is from Feb 2021 and doesn't contain the navigation fix
- Download the Master as ZIP and copy the unzipped content on your SD card --> https://github.com/jilleb/mib2-toolbox/archive/refs/heads/master.zip
- You can find the customization later in your green menu under Customization\Navigation - not in the AndroidAuto section
Once you have M.I.B installed and the Green Engineering Menu activated you install the Navignore option https://github.com/Mr-MIBonk/M.I.B._More-Incredible-Bash/discussions/93

Android Auto - How it works?

Hi,
I have searched on the internet but I can't find any good info about android auto.
First I don't understand how it works. I have seen that you need android auto on your phone in order to communicate with your car device but what is running on the car device? Is a different type of operating system?
Can I add an application developed for Android on Android Auto?

AA consists of 2 parts -
AA application running on the phone
AA client on say a car headunit (could also be another android phone or an android tablet) that mirrors the AA phone display
AA can be run self hosted on a phone, then you don't need the second part.
If you want to have a fixed display (client/server setup) in the car & you don't already have a car headunit supporting AA, you can install an app such as HUR- https://forum.xda-developers.com/ge...ndroid-4-1-headunit-reloaded-android-t3432348 on the headunit/tablet. There's a trial version that you can download to try.

As the purpose of AA is to enable phone use during driving, it provides limited access with a simplified display :
Google assistant - so you can have voice interaction
Phone
Navigation - waze/google maps
Music apps - google play music, spotify (depends what you have installed on your phone)
Great info.
I am asking this because I have an application of podcast on google play and I would like to be available on AA and I am trying to find out how can I do that.
Do you know any relevant info on the web that can clarify me? I am guessing that there are some constraints if we speak of automotive
Install AA on your phone., run it, see if the app is shown in the menu. If it isn't you can go into AA developer mode and enable 'unknown sources' and test again. The thread I referenced above covers getting in AA developer mode.
If that test is successful, then go further and install the client on your car console.
Great, I will try it and come back with some answers.
Thank you for your time
Hello again,
I manage to complete all my tests and all was ok. I have installed a few applications and one custom application and all worked ok.
I have one more question for you if you can help me of course.
Do you know a tutorial or something from where I can start with Android auto? I have seen that there are not tow application (one for Android and one for Android auto ) is the same app but for Auto version are fewer scenes.
If you can give me a hint here it will be just great.
Thank you.

It would be helpful to know what hardware you have in your car.
I'm not an expert, I use a Nexus 7 tablet for the car display with headunit reload (HUR).
