arogs is New to the Boards

Hello, my name is Benjamin, currently a undergraduate student that has gotten very interested in electronics the past couple of months. 21 years of age.
I don't have excessive amounts of money to buy nice toys with or to experiment with, but I was hoping that I could gather wealth and buy an unlocked smart-phone, cheap.
I don't have extensive experience, but I really want to learn from this awesome community. I have been skimming threads and reading, researching and, finally I decided to stop lurking and come out in the clear and introduce myself. I admire the hard work of the seniors, veterans, juniors, semi-pros and other awesome people that think around problems on this board. Thank you already.
I have started hobby-programing python and perl, I have an unreasonable fear of Java, but will hopefully be able to start playing with it if I eventually do get that smart-phone.
So my problem right now is that I don't have a fun little device to play with, could anyone recommend a device that is:
Not crazy expensive
Will be able to connect to Wi-fi network
Will be able to run GV to be used as a VOIP phone
Unlocked and ready to be changed
Easy to access and play around with
Simply, I don't necessarily need it to keep a constant connectivity, just a small computer to toy with.
There are many approaches to the smart-phone idea right now, and your board has been very helpful, I just need a last nudge.
Sorry for the lengthy post, just wanted to introduce myself, and not be lurking anymore. I will try to keep annoying questions to a minimum.

cheap smartphone(thats actually worth somthing) translates to hd2 on xda ... they go from $200-220 on ebay , good cond . anything lesser of a price ull only get 600mhz , non-cortex phones(garbage) it has wp7 android ubuntu one day maybe meego for it

I'm Jethro (not really) but I like it. I'm an aging out electronics designer. Full of crazy ideas that, these days, need coding skills which I don't have. I doubt I'll be able to contribute much hear but I'll ask a lot of stupid questions.

There are no stupid questions, just stupid people!
You may lookup raspberry pi or Arduino if you still enjoy playing with circuitry and soldering your own breakout boards.
I order a lot of my stuff from adafruit.com.

Intro

Hey there XDA Members,
I am Arihant Gupta, Second Year High School from India, taken computer science as an optional subject, 2 years of basic middle school and 2 years of high school Java Programming Student, I have this deep passion for learning things about computers but since i am from not so urban area I am having a hard time finding someone who could help me walk through this exciting technical world. I recently ended up bricking my phone while trying to root my device and also ended up having a hell lot of errors on Android Studio as a started to learn it online recently. Thus after so much trouble i finally ended up here a place where someone might help me through it. I wish everyone a good time.

Hello, I am new here. I primarily joined to ask questions on installing someone's project documented here, but hopefully I will be able to do something myself eventually. I am mainly into older computers and video games consoles but I have recently realised that smartphones are more interesting than I previously thought, more like old PCs I suppose as they are closed systems unlike new PCs. I have a few phones and I've always thought i'd like to use them more but historically I've only really been interested in games and scene demos. I am supposed to be a technical guy but I only have a lot of breadth of surface level knowledge mostly on old computers and not much depth, mostly because of spending all my time dreaming and never doing or actually learning stuff other than reading Wikipedia articles. Hopefully I can change that and get around to learning more in depth. The trouble is finding information that allows you to learn more but is still at a level that you understand.
Anyway from the little i've seen this seems like quite a civilised community so hopefully I will get along with everyone and maybe I'll be able to help with things eventually.

Hello everybody! My name is Michael.

Greetings and salutations! I'm a new member but have been reading threads on XDA for about a year now. About 6 months ago I decided I wanted to make the jump into tinkering and really learning about android and what makes it tick. I had purchased a Motorola Moto G Stylus 5g Denver Variant, and decided to try and root it and install a custom ROM . Well that was a very tedious task, as some of you may know and a little above my skill set. But I hunkered down and did research and studied to sharpen my aspiring developers sword. I learned about the kernel and a/b slots and so on. Still haven't figured it all out but it hasn't stopped the train. I learned about dsu loaders and GUI 's and hand have installed a few GUI's and even Android 13. I have recently figured out where to find the factory firmware and patched my first factory boot image for flashing. I got stuck on the TWRP part ,since they don't have a official version yet, but haven't got discouraged. Currently researching a few work arounds and am really interested in this "Super Stack" I've heard about but can't seem to find very easily. I guess having this phone model was a great way to throw me into the fire and get the wheels of knowledge moving. A year ago I wouldn't have thought I would be even trying any of this. I always have read Science and Tech related things but never made the leap. Now it's becoming more than a hobby. I'm learning code ,Linux, python, or testing, and a slew of other things . All self taught and out of a passion for knowledge. Not bad for a 40 year old pool man with one year of college lol. I just want to say thank you to all the Developers and Contributers to the XDA platform. Without you, it wouldn't have been possible for me to even begin to do any of these things. The knowledge and other things I have learned from this sight are priceless. And it has given me the push to learn so many other things and different skill sets . Given me a new outlook on life and a passion to follow my dreams. And for that I'm forever thankful. I hope that wasn't to much lol. Thank you!
