Hello everyone.
So, currently i'm running LineageOS 18.1 which is eating 2.4gb of ram out of the very limited 3gb the phone has. I was wondering, since i haven't tried them all, which custom rom has the smallest memory footprint ?
Does nobody know ?

Dear all,
I am curious if I can purchase a larger RAM module and replace the one in my SGS resulting in more RAM space available to applications?
My SGS is running fast but I have a lot of applications installed which utilize RAM in background. As everyone know although SGS claim to have 512MB memory, the actual memory available for user application is around 3xx MB only. I am woundering if upgrade of physical RAM is feasible.
Thanks!

I'd highly doubt that it would be possible. Maybe some high skilled person could make the swap (it probably wouldn't be easy to find one..), but no-one knows if it would have even theoretical chances to work. And yes SGS has 512mb of ram..but os and apps just take their part of it in any situation.

I hope this isn't a dumb question. I am thinking of moving from my S2 (running custom 4.4.4 ROM) to the S5 mini, but I am wondering if 1.5gb is really enough RAM? On the S2, I had to repartition the 2gb to 4gb - though that was before I went from 4.1.2 to 4.4.x.
with the stock samsung android rom the ram is nearly full up to 85-90%....
but let's wait for root & CM. i think then it will be better with the ram usage
t think when ART becomes the default runtime, only 1.5gb RAM will really be a problem as it uses about 20% more than dalvik. If I were in charge at Samsung I'd have made the S5 with 3gb, the S5 mini with 2gb, and given the Alpha an sdcard slot. I hate how they keep micro-fragmenting their offerings. On that one issue, they could take a big lesson from Apple (boooo hissss).
How much RAM do you usually have in custom roms? In LineageOS I'm getting 500mb available, and with the operating system spending 800 ~ 1gb, is this normal? (mi5 32gb 3gb)
I'm with the same "issue". It's normal? You got a fix?
Don't care about this
You don't need to care about this,Android will automatically manage RAM.
Android N is smart
Have the same situation , lineage doesnt kill all app background action like miui. However, i statisfy with the performance and at least, it doesnt show the ram available like miui, so i absolutely dont be annoyed about it
If you do much care about RAM then try some slim ROM.

You can change you ram from 3g to 6g,l have already changed mine with 349RMB.
Hello!
I'm thinking about buying Moto X4 with 4 GB of RAM, but after some research I found out, that RAM management on this phone is pretty bad. How it's looks in real life? How many apps wold I be able to keep in memory? Or maybe it was an issue only on specific Android version? Xiaomi Mi A1 probably don't have this problem, and can handle with 10+ apps running, but I don't know if I get used to that huge phone
Regards,
Have you guys tried the new SWAP on WEEKLY 21.7.21 rom?
It supposed to decrease 5º celsius under load and decrease throttling and battery consumption.
CHANGELOG
System
New - Xiaomi.eu recovery ROM for Mi 11 Lite 5G (renoir)
New - Enabled "Memory extension (SWAP)" feature [Snapdragon 888/870/865 devices]
System launcher
Fix - Uninstalling apps using drag-and-drop was not working in drawer mode
EDIT: from what i gather it's supposed to increase your RAM by creating Virtual RAM using your UFS3.1 Storage, also decrease/use around 3gb of storage space like windows pagefile.

It actually does not increase your ram and is only used if you are out of ram, Considering the vast majority of phones have anywhere from 6GB - 12GB ram and the average user in all actuality uses no more than four, this is just a useless gimmick that will take up space on your sd card/internal storage and won't give you any performance boost whatsoever.
Back in the day, when phones only had 1-3GB ram, we would root our phones and use these swap files to help with opening files and running apps, but that isn't necessary in today's smartphone world.

Its built in to all MIUI, but only benefits phones with four or less GB of ram. Let me ask you, your phone has 12GB or ram and the average user only uses 4GB ram, how is this going to benefit you in any way?
How Much RAM Does a Smartphone Need?
Every smartphone needs memory, but just how much RAM does a smartphone actually need to work properly?

You need to understand how it works. It merely creates a swap file on your internal storage and with the amount of ram flagship phones have (the Mi 11 Ultra has 12GB), it will never, ever be used, but it will take up space on your internal storage, that you could use for other more important things, like pictures, videos, music, games, etc...
Well definitely is not a feature for flagships,

Not a feature for any phone with greater than 4GB ram.
