safe to just update V409N from AliExpress? - LG V40 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hello everyone, I just received a V409N from AliExpress to replace my V30+ that I dropped at the beach a couple of weeks back. Very, reasonable I thought, at US$161, and arrived pretty quickly.
Question is: Assuming there's some malware on the phone (am I paranoid?), will a straightforward firmware update over LG Bridge remove it? I'm updating as I type this, but would I be better off rooting and installing a custom ROM?
Thanks,
Chris

Cool. Flash the latest stock version of Pie unless you want something custom.
I like the 3.5mm jack and the 1tb SD card support

Churrrr, thanks bro.

Hmm.. I buy this one. And I'm satisfied, in service menu written: official judypn_lao_com

LG 4xHD not registered

I have just managed to root my old LG P880/4xHD using advice from this forum. Thought I would try on an old phone first. One reason I tried is because I cannot update Android via the usual About phone, Software updates, Check now for updates. The Android version installed is 4.0.3. I am in Australia and it is possible the phone is an overseas model (got it from a friend in LG). Has "Not for Resale" stamped inside the back cover. When I try to update Android, I get an error message "Registered Error - Your device is not registered yet." I had hoped rooting would get around this but it hasn't. Have looked up old forum posts and there is talk of using .kdz files and all sorts of other things. Can anyone help me get around this registration issue but please be aware I am a novice and most of the older posts I read, I couldn't understand so simple explanations please. Thanks.
What you have is developer or test device and it is a bit different from normal ones. Try googling more but you will have hard time....

Could it be that it has overseas firmware, I read in a two or three year old post that this can happen but there was a way to get around this.

Try flashing 4.12 with kdz. Google is your friend, try kdz flash 4.1.2 Optimus 4x hd.
Funny thing, when I bought my phone, only google asked me to register the phone, the usual Google Play thing. SO what do you exactly mean with REGISTER?
i think the whole phone isn't registred by LG for consumers, like dimi89 said it has to be a dev device. they aren't registred and cannot be updated/used the normal way. the serial number of this phone isn't present in the LG databases i think. Just flash kdz and everything is fine. You know that you don't get any support or warranty on that phone but you should know that.

P9 Lite not supported in New Zealand

I thought I would quickly let New Zealand P9 Lite owners know that for the past month I have been in a battle with Huawei. After months of saying they would be releasing EMUI 5 in New Zealand they have confirmed the past month that they, and I use their words "have no intention of releasing this update in New Zealand". Essential our phones stopped being supported in New Zealand in Septemeber 2016.
The good news is Huawei do not understand New Zealand law, they think that their TOS override the consumer guarantees Act. There is two reasons that you can get a full refund, one is that they have been releasing this update overseas and are simply just not releasing it in NZ. The other that last october Nick Stephens from Shellphish found some major bugs in the trust zone that allows a person to bypass the fingerprint scanner. Huawei released an update to this in december 2016 but did not and refuse to release it to NZ.
I talked to MEBI who advised me that the applicable law was.
“there is a guarantee that the manufacturer will take reasonable action to ensure that facilities for repair of the goods and supply of parts for the goods are reasonably available for a reasonable period after the goods are so supplied.” http://www.legislation.govt.nz/act/...sw_096be8ed814da84a_facilities_25_se&p=1&sr=1
That said we have just had a full refund for our 3 p9 lites. I suggest anyone else with a p9 lite that is waiting for these updates follow the same path and get a refund
Hmm, I purchased mine from Noel Leeming in July 2016, am I still eligible for the CGA return? I kinda want Nougat
I noticed on a geekzone post in mid June that someone got a reply from the Huawei Facebook page promising NZ p9 nougat!
Response from Huawei NZ "Please be advised the P9Lite software upgrade will be available in New Zealand towards the end of the year. Thanks"
Hi everyone. I work at Spark and have been talking with our device delivery manager. As of last month Huawei was saying that the update was not in the pipeline.. now they are telling us that the nougat update is in testing. I asked our team, testing what as it's already been released around the world?!
Either way. I got sick of waiting and followed a guide on here to change the localisation to update to b380. Let me tell you Nougat works much better!

Yeah it was a combination of a couple threads on here. Let me see if I can put something together.
Below is the steps I used to successfully change my NZ p9 lite to the global Nougat rom. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. You 100% will reset your phone so backup and remove your data. I do not take any responsibility for this, you are attempting at your own risk. All credit goes to the authors in the links provided.
Step 1: unlock bootloader: https://forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-p9lite/how-to/guide-unlock-bootloader-twrp-root-t3405701
I did not use the tool to ender the code in this link, I just used ADB
Step 2: Using k1ll3r8e ‘s Toolkit, https://forum.xda-developers.com/hu...nt/europe-vns-l31-toolkit-bootloader-t3432873
a. On his post, download pkg.L22C636_DS.zip. This gives you the oem info that you will need.
b. Flash TWRP (recovery) to the phone.
c. Backup stock recovery to be safe!
d. Restore oem in TWRP, but use from L22C636 info.
Step 3: Download Update.zip for VNS-L22C636B140 (have to be honest, not sure if I did B140 or 120…) from https://forum.xda-developers.com/hu...huawei-p9-lite-firmware-compilations-t3517124
A. Create a folder called dload in SD-card main.
B. Extract the file in dload UPDATE.APP folder from update.zip above
C. Turn off phone, disconnect from computer
D. Press both Volume keys (VOL UP and DOWN) and then the power key and hold until the software update starts.
Step 4: This will vary. For me, when I flashed the C636 oeminfo file it somehow relocked my bootloader and removed TWRP… if yours doesn’t you can follow standard procedure to do this.
Now you are on the global B636 rom.
Step 5: im not sure if eventually would get updated or not, but I then used Firmware Finder to force update (can get in play store): https://forum.xda-developers.com/tools/general/huawei-firmware-finder-team-mt-t3469146
I went from B140 to B360 to B380
What a difference!
Very interesting subject. I have enquired with Huawei to verify this. Debatable if I get any response; but worth a shot.
Can anyone download the VNS-L22C636B*** update files from the supplied link? I tried all 3, with both Chrome & Firefox, & no luck.

Sorry looks like the links are dead now . I do have it downloaded. let me see if I can get it up. If not, you can also use the Firmware finder to download them.
Well, I did receive a response to my query from Huawei. One can only hope it is accurate.
"Dear,
Thank you very much for contacting Huawei.
With regards to your inquiry, we would like to sincerely apologise for the delay as the update is still undergoing some testing on our devices to ensure that our users will fully enjoy the Nougat update for our devices. Not to worry as the update will be ready very soon and that you may stay tuned to our Official FB Page and Consumer Page for further updates pertaining the release of the device's update in the links below:"

Huawei P9 (EE Network) EMUI 5.0 Update non existent?

Good evening all.....
I have already search for this amongst the forums but unfortunately I could not find anything so I am hoping you are able to help.
I currently own a Huawei P9 EVA-L09C440B138 with EMUI 4.1 - Android 6.0 Installed, locked to EE-UK. My partner has the same mobile but with a different network and she received the update to EMUI 5.0, Android 7.0, MONTHS ago. You may or may not have heard, all EE customers with Huawei P9's seem to be suffering from the same problem, and whenever we approach EE we get the same bull**** response "when the update is ready you will be notified", no timescale, nothing.
So my question is, is there a way I can bypass the standard update procedure as I fear I will never get that update, or am I going to have to be patient and wait until further notice.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Many thanks guys

Thank you very much for this it looks relatively simple to do but would you be able to advise me if I need any preliminary software or if I need to do anything prior to installing this update. Is there a plan B in case there is potential for my phone to be bricked. If I were to in future self this device to a shop would they be able to tell that this was not a genuine update directly from Huawei?

Nothing extra needed.
There's always a plan B, there's several threads on her for recovering a bricked P9.
If you don't tell them, they'll probably never notice.

V405UA vibration problem

Hello guys,
I bought new (open box) v40 on ebay and it stated V405UA unlocked. It came with Android 10 v30d.
All is working good except vibration. It doesn't vibrate at all. I tried factory reset, safe mode, application to test vibration and checking battery saver. And it doesn't work for notifications or keyboard feedback.
I contacted seller and he suggested i try to flash V40UA US android 9. I tried flashing V405UA020g_00_USC_US_OP_0424.kdz with LGUP from this forum and it showed me crossflash error (US>EU).
I then tried V405EBW android 10 V405EBW30d_00_OPEN_EU_DS_OP_1223.kdz and it showed me different crossflash error (jadypn_lao_eea>@judypn_la).
Can you please help me identify problem with vibration or recommend what file to flash, as I cannot find any EU V405UA fw.
Thanks in advance

whoa boy, what a mess. Well, how big of a mess depends on some unknown things, but there's potential there
First, you say u were on 30d. Which 30d? At&t? vzw? Euro version? There are a lot of 30d's.
Second, the version you were on u may not be able to get back to, if they were at&t or sprint, as they don't make thieir kdz available. No one has one, anywhere. What should have been done, if on one of those firmwares, was to use a special too (bkerler edl) to back up all your partitions first.
Third, the issues you're running into with crossflashing are pretty easily overcome. You just have to use the correct lg up version and matching dll. Also, to crossflash u have to do a partition d/l, none of the other options will work.
Fourth, vibration issue is almost certainly a hardware issue. Probably why it was an 'open box'. Personally, if that doesn't work when I buy it, I return it. It's unfortunate the seller told you to modify the phone, as that usually is the reason they will refuse a return, if it's been modified?
I'd guess the vibration thing is a hw issue, unfortunately.
So what firmware do you WANT to be on? 9 or 10? Which carrier do u use? U need firmware that has those bands. If u can't return and have to live with the no vibration, to me anyway, not end of world.
cheers
Hi,
Thanks for quick reply. I apologise for chaotic first post.
I was on european 30d, there was no further info in system menu i can recall sadly.
I solved issues with crossflashing and successfully flashed these firmwares:
V405UA21c_00_USC_US_OP_1028.kdz
V405EBW30d_00_OPEN_EU_DS_OP_1223.kdz
but none of them solved the issue. (first one recommended by seller, second to get back to european)
Seller offered me that I can return the phone and they will solve the issue, as there is 30 day return policy and 12 month warranty. They even would pay for shipping.
I am now considering returning the phone, but I have smart bracelet which I mainly use for notifications, so I do not depend on vibrations so much. And seller is half of europe apart.
The reason I was thinking that it was software issue was that I found on xda and elsewhere that android recoverry from google backup can be corrupted and then vibrations do not work and my previous phone Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite has occasional problems with vibrations, which is odd coincidence.
Phone was sold as open-box, but the phone itself was sealed. But i think seller flashed the firmware, because it is US version with EU fw and android 10 out of the box. Seller even helped me to get right version of LGUP.
My last question would be if there is a way to tell what causes the issue, if it is hardware.

Interesting, good that your seller sounds pretty responsible. Have never used android recovery from google backup, so no help there. The only thing I can thing of to help determine what the no vibration issue is, other than opening the phone, would be to use a logcat and see if there's any error info in it.
Start the logcat just before doing something that would cause the vibration to go on, then shut the logcat. Look for errors...
Additionally, as you've experienced one significant issue, fully check everything else; camera, flash, speakers, anything and everything hw related. that's what I'd do anyway.
cheers
Nothing else seems to be defective.
I tried capturing vibrations on logcat, screenshot attached

I'm no expert but from that output, seems to me the software thinks it did it's job. No indications of any problem, but it may be the software tell's it to 'vibrate' and whether it does or not, doesn't matter, as it may not have any checks for errors of any kind.
Additionally, it seems pretty unlikely LG is going to put out an OS version where something as common as the vibrate function doesn't work? Have not heard of any version doing that anyway.
cheers

Do I need Dual Mode for flashing or for testing in "PHONESETTING"?

Question Phone bricked after unsuccessful OTA

Hi all, I just had the S23 for a couple of days now and have experienced quite a few bugs: Camara failed, restart automatically from time to time, cannot enter themes saying not available in my market (successfully logged in the next day).
Therefore I was quite happy when there is an OTA popped out today and I immediately started the OTA update.
However the update stuck at the download mode, error message on screen being "Build-id does not match with the reference".
Followed the instruction to restart, and try entering the recovery mode both did not work, all coming back to the download mode screen.
I've never flashed my device, any ways to clean the cache and do the OTA again? Just need to bypass the download mode screen...
Worst case is I return the phone to the original dealer (still within 14 days regret period) and get a new one. I just moved all my data to the phone and am quite reluctant to do so if there's no other alternatives.
Thanks for your help in advance!
I would return it. Not a good start... if it's hardware it will just bite you again, eventually.
A Samsung Experience center at a best buy can run advanced diagnostics on it and reflash it if you decide to play Samsung roulette.
The data is toast either way. Wishing you had an SD card slot yet?
Thanks for the

Thanks for replying. I try to do a online smart repair but obviously S23 is too new to be included in their aftersales tool. Here in Germany there is only limited places that I can go. So probably I end up returning it but it's such a pity since it has the best phone camera I've used and I really wish to stay...
You're welcome. Sorry. That's too much money to risk it being a hardware fault and even it isn't you shouldn't have to be reflashing it right out of the box. That takes away the joy of new ownership and then some.

That's bad luck indeed.
Either Samsung shop to fix that? Either returning it or asking for an exchange yep. For you data, didn't you sync on Samsung cloud or Google cloud?
Good luck with this sh*t.
Ps: idk if your computer detect your phone? So you could flash the firmware again through odin? I read this tool can detect the phone model and automatically download the latest firmware directly from Samsung update sevrer.. Idk what it worths https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/tool-frija-samsung-firmware-downloader-checker.3910594/

Thanks for the tip. Used Odin and it did work. However when trying OTA it comes again, so had to flash once more. I'll just leave it and Samsung was kind enough to give me 5% on my next order in Samsung Shop so I'll just return this and get a new one via Samsung. Hope I'll get a normal one.
