Hello colleagues,
I have a Xiaomi Redmi 4X lying around, which I want to connect permanently to my Audi A4 (2016) without a SIM card (via micro USB cable). I want only important apps to work via Android Auto - GPS, GoogleMaps, blitzer.de, TuneIn-Radio. The phone gets internet from my actual cell phone, which I have in my jacket pocket, via WLAN.
In other words, the phone only needs to have the functions of "serving" my car. Even the telephone function can be neglected ...
Now the question is, an MIUI is currently running on my 4X, but I would like a lean operating system on the mobile phone so that the processor can only concentrate on the apps it needs and functions such as synchronization, cloud services or other unnecessary stuff are not even available are.
Can you recommend a lean operating system for me? My English is not so great, Sorry.
The phone is unlocked, rooted and I have already installed twrp ...
greeting Feustiminator

Dear friends
First of all welcome as its my first post here
I really like tf701 even though here in eu it's not as cheap as in us
Anyway before buying it I'd like to post some q.
I have no android experience so please forgive my ignorance.
1. Can I use my usb 3.0 external drive, explore it, do some basic file operations etc?
2. It's usb powered one so do I need any additional accessories?
3. Can I host iphone, transfer music and manage apps?
4. I'm going to Asia for couple of years and I don't have laptop,
Most of the time I will not have internet access
Should I get tf701t?
The other device I'm considering is samsung xe700t1c.
Actually my only requirements are compatibility with
usb hdd, iPhone as mentioned above plus good display so other
Recommendations are also welcome
Thank you in advance for your reply
The tablet has an excellent display. As far as syncing with an iPhone, no android tablet can do that as iTunes is required for syncing with an iPhone and iTunes is incompatible with android, unless it is jailbroken with a certain tweak {I forgot the name} installed, but no guarantee that would work either, if you want a tablet that would be able to sync with the iPhone I would suggest a windows tablet that is running full windows OS 8 if you need to sync your iPhone, but I don't think any would support use of an external hdd, and I would suggest syncing your music and stuff before you go on the trip so you don't have to while on the trip. I have not tested using a external hard drive on the tablet, but I think it would work as long as you have the tablets keyboard dock and a power supply, but no guarantee on this.
There are apps (can't recall names) that allow android to sync with itunes I thought?
Using iTunes with Android - shudder! [emoji79]
I switched everything to Android to get AWAY from that horrible piece of software.....

Dear all,
I own a fresh Kia C'eed with a fully functioning (LCD display) Head Unit and support both for Android and Apple phones.
I am trying to connect my (relatively new) Xiaomi Redmi 4X to it. Everything else works (e.g. Bluetooth connection), EXCEPT the Android Auto feature.
Specifically, when I connect it via USB cable it briefly shows that it tries to connect and then reverts to charging mode.
Moreover, I see from Google Play that my phone is not compatible with Android Auto, which I think is the main problem.
My phone's specs are:
- Android Version: 7.1.2 N2G47H
- MIUI Version: MIUI Global 9.1 | Stable [9.1.1.0 (NAMMIEI)]
It supports over the air updates (and has done some already) and - based on what I read in the forum - people have made Android Auto work with the Xiaomi Global ROM.
QUESTIONS:
Shouldn't then my phone work ok?
If not, how could I fix this, save for flashing my ROM?
If all else fails, is there some alternative app that mirrors Android phones on a car Head Unit?
Thank you in advance for your time.
Am answering my own query for the record here:
It turns out Xiaomi Redmi 4X _does_ support Android Auto. It was simply not supported in my country. In such a case, simply download the apk from a mirror site (e.g. apkmirror) and install it.
Then all will work well with the car.
In case of connection issues (a) reboot your phone, (b) make sure you have a data connection active (for some maybe needed updates) and (c) replace the USB cable if all else fails.
Then, all works like a charm.
cheers!
Auto Android in redmi4x
Hi, thanks for your post. I have the same problem you had. Is there any way you could help me with details on how to download the apk and how to install it? Thanks in advance

As mentioned in my original post, you can e.g. go to: h**ps://***.apkmirror.com, find and download the latest APK for Android Auto and install it. That's all.
I have a problem to establish a USB connection between my KIA Cerato head unit and Xiaomi A1 and A2 phones.
The phones are not recognised, which means that Android Auto is not working on the car's LCD screen.
Bluetooth connection works just fine, so Phone and Music can be played via KIA Entertainment unit.
In the same time Nokia G20 connects seamlessly with Android Auto working properly.
Is there any workaround for Xiaomi phones?
Good morning,
I’m here for asking if it is possibile create a custom rom for the R-Link by Renault.
I have tried, figuring out even the apps extensions installed .wlpk and to no luck... even tried accessing the browser in developer mode, and it didn't work cuz I had no wifi on my car system even with my phone tethered I got no connection to install any app or access a USB through the browser !
I've got a development device of R-Link Evo, it has some additional connectors on the main board. I can post some logs if you tell me what to ask for, since my experience with Android tinkering is quite low.
Renault recently released an updated tomtom.000 to fix a known year roll over issue, had to be applied before 6th April. All R-link equipped cars should have been flagging this up on screen. Upshot of this is that Renault opened up a process for updating Rlink via USB, normally they do this via the SD card. Copying the "new" tomtom.000 file to USB and starting car then pushed the tomtom.000 file to the car and reconfigured the satnav. Perhaps this means there is now a backdoor to updating other apps.
I have a Skoda Citigo, it came with a neat satnav/media device that is mounted to the dash, but isn't in a double-din slot. It's Navigon based, 8 years old and a million miles behind Android Auto. But the install is pretty neat.
I'd like to take a 7" touchscreen, 3D print a case and mount some hardware in place of the Navigon that lets me run Android Auto. Ideally I want it to work independent of my phone, but I also want it to seamlessly access data etc via my phone when I get in the car.
Is this possible? And if so, what should I look at in terms of hardware and a ROM etc to start getting it setup?

Can't you just get any Android tablet (maybe a used Samsung Tab-A series) then run the Android Auto app on it inside of a tablet mount?
I can, that's an option, but I'm trying to get the setup as close to the factory setup as possible and as clean as possible. With a tablet I'd still need to do something to tie the power and audio into the factory pins, which are part of the mount, and dash top so I suspect it's easier to run on standalone hardware.
With a tablet running normal Android I'd need to setup a WiFi Hotspot on my phone that automatically turned on in the car and do something to the tablet so it turns on and loads straight into Android Auto with the ignition on. Might be possible, but not straightforward.
I have one eye on the future - if I want to do something that lets me use Android Auto, Torque, run dashcams or reversing cameras it's going to be a bit easier if the software is running on something like a Raspberrry Pi where I've got easy options for plugging hardware in.
I have big time trouble connecting my A12 Android Auto to my brand new BMW iX3. My Oneplus Nord connects flawlessly, the A12 does not. On Samsungs website I read that Norway is not among the countries allowing Android Auto (https://www.samsung.com/ie/support/...fficulty-connecting-to-or-using-android-auto/), could that the reason?
I cannot believe that.
I live in the Netherlands and we are also not in the list and we can use AA without any problem, but, your phone AND carsystem will have to connect with each other.
It sounds more that your A12 does not have the right software for it.
Go to apkmirror site and download the AA software and install on your phone.
I have downloaded the latest version from Google Play, isn't that version as good as the apkmirror-versions? My A12 connects OK with the car when it comes to hand free phone operations over Bluetooth, but when trying to establish AA, the car says "The connection failed. Check both the Bluetooth and WLAN settings on the mobile unit". Both BT and WLAN are active on the phone, and during the process an AA logo splashes on the mobile screen.
Edit: I have downloaded and installed Android Auto 6.8.613323 which I suppose is the lastest release. Same result
Ah, now i get it.
I had a Nokia 7plus and my radio-unit worked, This summer i switched to a new Nokia X20 phone, and had the same error.
After switching the car-cable with the cable that came with the new Nokia, it suddenly worked.
So try to use the cable that came with the new phone, instead of the old cable from the previous phone.
Thanx for the tip, elot01! I switched the cable to the one that came along the A12, but nothing happens when connected to the car USB except from battery charging and the option to transfer files. I am in contact with Samsung support, and so far they have been helpful. But they have not been able to solve my problem yet.
Once they have, I will post the solution here. But any tip for the forum community is highly welcome.
Samsung has given up and redirected med to Google since "this is a 3rd party SW". I haven't managed to find any Google support center to contact, but I have figured out the problem myself.
I want to have a wireless AA, and it seems like this is only supprted with handsets capable of dual band wifi, ie. 2.4 and 5GHz. The Samsung Galaxy A12 only support single band (2.4GHz).
So there goes my A12 back in its box to be placed in some drawer and forgotten. A low-priced telephone, but still a waste of money
A tip to Google/Samsung: Why not display a message saying "Android Auto is only supported on dual band wifi mobiles" when only 2.4GHz is supported?
If you want wireless, also take a look at Carsifi (still in Kickstarter) or AAWireless (former kickstarter).
Then you don't need a new phone

If you want a dongle slamming aroud in you car occupying one USB-port this solution is probably OK. But it's much easier to spend the 85$ extra on a mobile with dual-band wifi.
