i have come from a htc hd2 so i like to change roms alot.
what should i do with the galaxy note ?
i would like ICS so what are the steps ?
any help please
Have a good search round this forum and make sure you understand clearly how everything works before you decide to start flashing, I came from the HTC Desire and the Galaxy Note is a whole different ball game. Enjoy you new Galaxy Note
is the official ics update any good ?
what does rooting do ?
I personally didn't like the official ICS update, that is when I decided to flash a custom ROM.
Rooting gives you more control over your phone, lets you install apps like "Titanium Backup" that require root permissions to run.
i have the la6 kernel
im lost

Apparently this really depends on your location. For example the one Samsung released here (France, 4 months after being announced, too) was so broken it bricked a number of terminals and was subsequently withdrawn. With no word of when a fix will come.
Apparently other areas had working systems. One would think it would just be a matter of strings to translate and a few apps to package, so it's all very puzzling to someone who isn't familiar with Android (I've been intimately familiar with Linux for more than 20 years, and Unix before that, but I still don't get it).
And then, as you'll see by browsing the forums, many people seem to have issues with ICS. Issues that (IMO) just don't seem to make much sense in a system that would have been tested for a couple days by an intern somewhere...
OTOH, many people apparently have no issues.
So as with everything on the network, I suppose YMMV, take it with a grain of salt, yada yada... void where applicable.
See if anything is reported about your proposed (if any) update. Then decide if it's worth it (maybe it is).

Same as on any other terminal ? Lets you access functions that are typically "off limits". Among the most useful ones, you can now read/write anywhere. Which means you can allow/deny anything for any application. And notably block all those silly annoying bundled apps so they won't want to update any more, or, if you like, even start (a process known as freezing).
Have a look at the videos in my signature once..
For Rom official one is good but custom ones are great..
All roms are unique in their own way...the ones that stand out as totally awesome are Paranoid Android and TMT Hybrid IMUI...
Its your choice...
thanks guys

yes, just be careful, follow instruction to the dot, and don't take any shortcuts,
also, it's good to have tb backup, as additional security precaution

1. probably, but make sure in paranoid thread,
2. I assume you have done cwm backup, which will be rather useless when switching ROMs, having tb (i.e.Titanium Backup) backup you can generally restore your apps and data between roms (except for the system ones)
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
yes all backed up with cwm and tb.

And that was the right thing to have for the time being, too bad you hurried on to ICS. In my opinion, when you have a new phone, you have to know it, enjoy it, love it ( ? ), installed a couple of hundred apps, and then, after being more than familiar whith it, it would be time to upgrade it, tweak it, etc., so the change could be apreciatte. It's like eating always the desert at first, withouth eating the soup and the salad.
As for rooting, if you had to ask, you probably did't need to root, but since that's already done, I'll give you a hint. There is one VERY interesting thing about rooting which anyone would find usefull. The posibility of using a Firewall. In this way, you could not only block those annoying ads (and save a little battery since the ads have to download from Internet). You can also protect your device from troyan / spy applications, which are increasingly expanding in android. For example, a simple sound board app, or a screen saver, ¿why should it use your internet connection? ¿To what ends?
Enjoy the Note, it's a hell of a phone.
Hello, this is my first question since almost every doubt I had about my LG phones had been cleared before by the developers and contributors.
I have an LG P970 and have tried various roms, I can't decide for one.
I like the stability from Stock roms, but I miss the customization from CM10 for example. At the time im using JellyBam (which is based on CM10)
Anyways, my question is: Is the LED notifications on CM10 coded on the Kernel, or is it somewhere?
Will it be somewhere in time a Kernel for Stock ICS that support such notifications?
I havent found any request or topic about this notifications. I dont know if nobody uses them or the people give them for granted and don't care for stock roms.
If anyone could give more light on this topic..
I would love to see LED notifications on V30B
Thanks in advance!
Agt
EDIT: I read in androidcentral that the feature is coded on the framework. Whats does this mean? Is it on the framework apk?

all this mods can be made ,, probably heuxxx will launch zeus ics soon , it will contains these probably
Hey, thanks for the reply!
Lets hope Heuxxx can launch its ROM sometime soon..
Do you know if its coded on kernel or in the framework? (Just Curious, because I can't do nothing about it, since I dont have any coding knowledge)
By the way I'm following your ROM Nemesis. I probably flash it today to try photoshpere, since I put the 4.2 camera in JellyBam and got very bad freezes.
Thanks again.
IS there any good roms for this phone seriously ?
every rom i try has alot of bugs and problems and devs release updates every 6 months and most of them drop the development for the phone anyway
i cant find a single rom that combines performance with battery without sacrificing the LED notification abilities !!!
I've seen comments saying "the best rom" in every rom OP
If 'you' don't like it, it's your view. But don't ask for the best rom as its a violation of xda rules. I hope you get my point and I'm not being rude.
There are many great roms out there, try them for a week or so and then see what's good and what's not, help the dev by reviewing it honestly(not being biased like 'this rom is nothing like xyz rom') this way the dev will help you get a better rom.

First off - respect others work. Everyone puts a lot of effort in the ROMs.
1. The ROMs for SP are nearly bugless, only stock based ROMs have stock Sony bugs.
2. Of course - updates are released every 6 months - how is that possible if PA, AOKP, PAC, FXP CM are weekly-built, and we also have daily-built CM nightlies. Also who dropped support for a ROM? Last time it happened for OmniROM. After that no one dropped ROM support.
3. All ROMs for SP are nearly on par when it comes to battery and performance.
4. You can get the illumination bar features with Illumination Reciever + Illumination Bar Notification apps
5. Why do you put these exclamation marks in your sentences?
try PA or PAC, smooth, fast , great battery life and stable
2 words: thread reported
please respect the work of others and be patient
Also according to the XDA Rules asking for "What is the best ROM" is not allowed here
~~ Regards
hahahahaha you people are being aggressive and rude and i didnt say the "Best" anywhere i said a good rom
and no there are no good roms and i have used every single rom in the development thread and i know every developer and because i respect them i didnt mention their names but i know everyone who doesnt release a single update and leaves the rom to rot or just drops the whole development
everyone is just sensetive when it comes to respecting developers

4. Most of the applications doesnt work when you are on AOSP or CM they only work on stock
3. there are roms that are just slow like stocks and roms that eat battery like miui and aosp and cm
2. I Dont see any updates from any of these
1. Stock roms are the only thing we can call decent other than that its just an FC Festive

eXistenZ is the best stock based rom atm,AT LEAST IN MY OPINION,others may find other roms better.it has NO BUGS,it has speed enchantment, and when you turn Stamina mode On,you will have a hard time draining the battery

4. Okay, I can agree, but it's proprietary Sony technology so it can't really be used in CM without weird tricks.
3.Stock is pretty fast starting from .205 update. Eat battery? It depends on that how you flash the ROM, I can easily get 3-4+ hours screen on time.
2. I won't even comment about that, your ignorance totally killed me.
1.FC Festive? Custom ROMs based on AOSP are way stabler than stock ROMs.

then you didnt tried them the only stable custom rom is AOSP by vanir and it lacks the notification bar controll and the features
and please amuse me and tell me what is the right way to flash a rom other than flashing the kernel , wiping data and cache and dalvik, flashing the rom then reboot ?

existenZ is slow compared to every single rom out there and as i said we didnt get an upate in 3 months or more
i bet that ill find a developer who will comment right now saying that he does this for free and he has a life and he is busy and we should be gratefull
if you are busy and you are doing this for free then why you started it from the beginning ?
just drop the project and delete your thread instead of making us FC everyday and sink in bugs
@aliiahmed.20
I tried AOKP, PAC, PA, CM10.2, CM11, Stock odexed and deodexed, and also ExistenZ from the first version(based on 4.1.2). So yeah, I didn't try them.
Well, looking at your posts I thought you were dirty flashing from stock to CM11 and other ROMs, because with your issues it's impossible that you clean flashed everything.
And about the developers and their work - they can't do that, why? Because people like you will complain about no updates, bugs and no support...

Well, you wrote the correct steps earlier, but you didn't include formatting /system, so in the flashing process some files were left intact thanks by updater-script backuptool.
Anyway, it's not just about the correct or incorrect way. It just seems like a user mistake for me...
Let's end this discussion now, I don't want to fight with anyone about why custom ROMs on their phones perform worse than for happy majority.

Wiping battery stats is completely useless step.
Yes, happy majority on(for example) CM/PA/PAC that enjoys the smoothness, stability and battery life of these ROMs(ofc you will argue about that these ROMs have no updates, no support, ppor battery life and performance, but as I said, the discussion about that is ended).

I dont even know why we are wasting our time on you...Pls buy another phone, leave us alone. However, I doubt that even the note 3 will be good for you,as you are lost in space and time.eXistenz was updated 1/7/2014,that was 1 month and almost 2 weeks ago,not 3 months. The reason it wasnt updated is that there is no reason for it to be updated at the moment. The illusion that you put yourself in is false and broken,as only ROMs which arent complete need updates every day,or if they added new features. All stock based roms give you the latest SONY UI,and if you dont like them,SONY isnt the right company for you.None of us notice lag on it,or on any custom rom.I dont know what your complex brain expects from a phone this good.If you arent satisfied, try unlocking the bootloader, and installing FXPCM11,that rom is blazing fast, but the bootloader unlock is the price for it.I am honestly using NexusCM11,and it is fast and smooth as butter.try following install instructions completely, and the ROMs wont lag.You cant just pop a thread, with a goal of insulting people who do much more for their property than you.If you think they all suck, you can make one yourself,so we can admire your ambitions. But the bigger chance is simply that you can not be satisfied, even if someone gave you a xperia z2/galaxy s5/note 3 or the lg g3.You would always complain. But I have an idea!
Care only for performance?
Buy a Nokia phone from the previous century, those things dont lag,and can be used as weapons to smack someones head off.

NO ONE CAN
all you can do is just attack me which is totally okay with me but untill you give ma link of a thread of a good rom you conversation is invaild
What's up everybody?
I think I need some help.
I'm running a custom rom, apparently without any setting around the possibility to switch off or dim the hardware buttons backlight.
I'm wondering if it was possible to use a third party app, if it exists, or to modify any build.prop line or some more stuff like that, waiting for my rom developers to add this feature.
Please don't talk to me about xposed modules, I don't want to install xposed.
What custom rom are you using? Cause I'm using RR and I have this option right in the configurations part of settings.

I know. I'm running Reaper OS (what was Broken OS up to few weeks ago). You can't find anything on XDA about it, that community doesn't want their rom to be discussed here.
I already asked in their community what was to be asked.
What I'm asking here, is a workaround on any android 7.1.1 custom rom. It can also help few other people with the same problem and not necessarily the same rom.

well if that's a feature you want I would say you should switch ROMs. I don't know of any workaround for this. Or you might try requesting it to be added in by the Dev.
@se7ensde I thank you very much for your time and efforts, but you are telling me obvious things.
This rom simply rocks on this device and, as I said, I'm already asked this feature on the right channels.
I'm asking a workaround, not another rom, I tried all of them already.
