Good news for Kaiser users: CorePlayer 1.2 will entirely fix the video problems! - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

See http://www.corecodec.com/forums/index.php?topic=596.0

sounds coool, I wonder how they want to fix the misssing driver support...

If you read the explanation posted on that forum -
The issue was that they used something called QTV for overlay (undocumented qualcomm driver).

I'm assuming "they" is HTC, which suggests that the driver support isn't missing, it's just not working very well, and Coreplayer have switched to something else.

That is very interesting also for all the future users of Polaris too!

Yes, maybe they are NOT missing (as some people have said) and this is the first app that actually uses the correct calls.
Can we get rid of that sticky now??

how will i get the additional driver or update for my htc tytn II? when will this be available?

There is no additional driver or update for the Tytn II, only a new version of Coreplayer which is compatible with the driver already in the Tytn II. This will be on sale in the new year.

Sorry, I did not say remove the thread, that would be wrong. I just asked if it could be made un-sticky!

Do you mean petition thread?
That petition is much more general. It touches problems with accelerated 3D graphics as well as video playback issues.
None of these are solved yet. I don't see any reason for un-sticky-ing that thread.
Bottom line: No, I don't think that petition will solve anything. But I still like people to know about Kaiser's problems.

It would be a pity if the problem was solved and admins could put a block on certain people downloading from this site.....

Will this fix in any way help with the Camera/Video Camera jerky/blurry-video issue?
Either way it's nice to see some solutions are finally surfacing.

Really, you call this good news? This is horrible news. And it isn't even correct either.
They haven't solved anything, they're just used a propriety technology driver to do something that by all means SHOULD WORK with the already existing and used-in-every-normal-program DirectDraw and GDI.
This gives HTC even LESS incentive to fix our problems, since there is now (a particularly bad) workaround.
So now we have to use a custom player we have to pay for to do something our device should have done already out-of-the-box, and it still doesn't solve our GDI, DD, D3D or GLES issues.
You call this good news, I call this a farce.
(And actually, the correct GDI/DD should be able to decide when to actually use QTV and do this internally, just like the KS20 D3Dm driver uses GLES internally)

If any sticky gets removed it should be the "The thread to address ALL TILT-specific questions". What a mess that turned into. It is completely useless. In addition to the length and disjointed topics, many of the questions aren't even Tilt specific. The first several posts should be moved to the wiki, glean what you can from the rest and let that abomination fade into a long overdue digital oblivian! ...nuf said
Back on topic, I think this is good news but the petitioned issue still stands. Core Player will help for encoded video only, and has not yet been released. Until I see it, I am sceptical. Plus it requires an additional purchase for something that should be free. Still, being able to transcode my video library once and be able to play on multiple devices with respectible quality will make it well worth the price.
So I will probably wind up using it if/when it does come out and if it does indeed work, but I still think the petition thread serves a good purpose, if only to make potential purchasers aware of the situation, and also what to expect form HTC support (which is basiaclly nothing).

Thanks for the news, this is good stuff. I quite fancied the Sony err xperia 1 but then noticed in www.htc.com press release section (materials relating) mentions about them taking on the xperia. Could this mean hold backs on the possible identifying device..Who knows, but I still quite fancy it. And suppose if HTC do release the drivers at the end of March like metioned at www.htcclassaction.org then I would buy another HTC device although I would be more cautious and probably wait for a few people from here to get one first.
Thanks again for your blog!! Good reading..

Cause SE does not produces the Hardware. The internal PCB and all on-board is HTC OEM or ODm production.
HTC "might" again provide a chipset build without driver support. That is why.
Advice: Avoid Xperia as long S E does not confirm FULL specs of the Qualcomm CPU being used.

While I can't discosure the name of the manufacturer (they have asked me not to do so after our discussion), there is a far-east ODM that is working on the 3D Qualcomm drivers for their own Qualcomm-based devices. They stated they'd be ready in 2-3 months. They stated while they indeed have to do some manual coding, Qualcomm does (already) support 3D in the hardware.
You all know what this means - yes, we will hopefully be able to rip all those drivers after the (pretty close) release of the devices.
That definitely looks like something to look forward to. Please keep us informed, if you can.

Sure I will. Hope we can do some kind of a co-operation between the company in question and our Qualcomm coders / hackers with mutual benefits.

The S-E rep I've in person talked to didn't want to comment on whether it will surely have 3D hardware acceleration or not - unlike what the flyier states (in there, they speak of 3D hardware acceleration).
However, a completely independent manufacturer is (also?) working on the drivers. I'll try to do some kind of a co-operation, if at all possible, between them and the XDA-Devs coders.
Yes, I read that as well (about independent manufacturer). I am really appreciate your effort.
After reading your latest blog entry regarding this Xperia and found about:
- It is still based on Qualcomm MSM7xxx
- It is still 128 MB RAM
- It is still 256 MB Flash
I am less excited ...
I meant compared to Kaiser, there are not much upgrade.
- More resolution (800x480), yes this nice, but 3"? Not really big boost compared to current QVGA. For sure, it will look nicer, but I would rather to have 640x480 ... and 3.5" screen!
- More CPU power, I think 400 vs 528 will not add a lot (remember, the RAM is still 128MB) ... 624 would be nice (and add more RAM )
- FM Radio? Hmm, I dont need this for sure ...
- Xperia Panel? Could be nice, but I will not upgrade just because of this
- Windows 6.1? Dutty has that already ...
The rest are the same (GPSOne, Camera, etc.).
Well, maybe it is just me, but I found Xperia X1 does not offer much upgrade to current Kaiser.

Haven't checked it myself as it's "just" a WinCE-based phone, not a WinMo one. Dunno if Engadget and the other sites covered it.
Albeit, I'm certainly interested in the S5L8900 chipset it has (the same as in the iPhone and is prolly much better than the old S3C244x in, say, the TyTN) (see http://www.gearlog.com/2007/07/iphone_processor_whats_with_th.php ). While I don't think it can beat the brand new S3C6400 / S3C6410, which will only be used later by devices from Samsung and E-ten (the latter was confirmed by a Samsung rep at MWC), it's certainly much better than the S3C244x and has, for example, 3D hardware acceleration support.

I flashed my device and just finished installing software.
My device is noticeably snappier. Windows draw quicker and my videos play a bit better. Not a ton, but enough to notice.
It's likely because of doing a reset on it though.
I'll test it for a couple days and post my findings.
Bluetooth seems louder though.

I'm not sure I understand this. Are you saying that the screen shot on that link is NOT the version to be downloaded? If that's the case that sure is misleading.
I have the exact version on the screen shot.
downloading now..radio says 14.09R2 like they upgraded the radio...we will see. im pretty happy with 6.1
On the other thread on this topic, the version confusion is pointed out. The very first sentence says it is 1.062...somethign or other.
The print screen is very misleading. Right where it talks about be sure you aren't using the same version you are downloading, and they have a print screen you would think that is of the new version to compare your version to. But it isn't.
Anyway if you are the version that shows in the print screen this is a newer version.

No it doesn't. I did not see any improvement on 2007 Infiniti G35x.
I've certainly seen an improvement in performance of my phone, but I'm with the post above in that the reset itself is probably partly to thank. This time around windows mobile wasn't new to me so I did everything the way I wanted the first time.

QUALCOMM(R) 7201 chip on my Tilt.

I just received a warranty replacement for my ATT Tilt (reception problem, it would drop signal and not pick it up again, not in a 3g area). I checked the device info to see if they had preloaded the updated rom--they did--and in the hardware section they listed the chip as a 7201, not a 7200 like my old one.
So, what is the difference between the 7200 and the 7201? I did a seach and couldn't really find anything.
Thanks.

I was afraid of that. So, same chip, but new number to reflect what we <i>really</i> have.
In my not so humble opinion, I would say that maybe Qualcomm caught enough heat from people like us that they started requiring new phone to go out with the 7201 name instead of the 7200. Now they will have something to fall back on. Also the way that HTC has worded some of their replies to us just gives me the impression that this chip has been modded for them. Which is normal.

QUALCOMM(R) 7201 vs 7200 chip
I just got my new Tilt from at&t today for a warranty swap. I checked it out hoping there would be a new ROM release on it. There wasn't. I checked the Device Info and to my surprise it was a different chip. Normally it's the 7200. This one has the 7201. I am wondering if this is common where some Kaisers come with the 7201 or if it's a new release. I searched Google and was unable to find any info. Here are some pictures.
I'm unsure that it's anything but I have noticed that my new tilt runs much faster and smoother. There could be a few different reasons but my old one never seemed to run this fast.
I am using the at&t wm6.1 test rom on both.
Here is mine. Thats odd. I haven't seen that. Maybe someone can clarify.

I just got my warranty replacement today and it too has the 7201 chip. I couldn't find this thread so I started my own.
Mine seems faster and smoother. Significantly. It's possible it's because of something I did to my old Tilt but I really don't think I did anything but it's possible. I'm benchmarking in coreplayer and I'll try spb benchmark, but it's not likely i'll find anything.....

Before we continue on that point, there's something else you should know. There is also a leaked Diamond ROM. We have pulled this ROM apart and guess what: it has graphics drivers! They follow the same structure as the KS20 drivers too, with the "ahi2dati" driver at the core of the hardware accelerated graphics, talking to the hardware. It seems to be a bit more compatible with the current Kaiser ROMs, but note we have not compared the internal calls (yet!) to the new leaked NLD and WWE ROMs. Also note that because of this construct, it does not seem to be possible do drop in the libgles_cm hardware 3D driver.

Well it does say that they think they have the leaked FIX (not driver) over at modaco.com..
I just don't think people realize that a driver and a fix are two different things. On the bright side, it does seem that the driver we do have might be upgraded to something a bit better. Maybe not 100% but still better then what we do have.
(and dont' way we don't have a driver at all, you do have video on your phone)

Indeed the title of this topic is a bit misleading, BUT there is some good news at HTCClassAction:
If this is true, it would definitely open doors to bringing full hardware acceleration to the TyTN II, and possibly other MSM7x00 based devices. We have a TyTN II ROM that somehow touches the accelerated video hardware (NLD, probably WWE), we have fully accelerated drivers from HTC (Diamond), and we already have some prior experience due to the KS20 drivers. Throw them all together and it suddenly becomes a lot more likely the community will be able to bring full graphics drivers to the affected devices. Interesting times! Stay tuned, the effort has already begun!

Well it does say that they think they have the leaked FIX (not driver) over at modaco.com..

modaco.com was also one of the early Kaiser reviewers who either deliberately or ignorantly didn't comment on the graphics problems in the first place. That site has zero credibility in my book.

I've had a stinking feeling that reviewers were reviewing preproduction devices that had drivers. That is what the Sedna review from the Spanish site Todo Smartphone.com leads me to believe anyway. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=381254
Perhaps it's not their fault. I would like to see them always do ROM dumps and benchmarks.

Maybe, but the threat of being cut off from future preproduction review units could have something to do with the silence of some of the review sites.
Not to accuse anybody of anything in this case, but I worked in IT publishing for a long time and saw a lot of dirty tricks played by the tech companies.

the hd has compass hardaware? There are people that say yes

hi
I'm very surprised because tuxhero said yesterday that the blackstone has compass harware:

Ahh righto
I think we do have.
Thats the shame 'bout HTC (besides da poor quality of hard- and software): they setup ONE hardware and make 5 PDAs with slighty changed details. they were never interested in making good hardware.. everytime they took something away the previous model had... now, they do have android and are able to clone nearly the same device just with another OS.
in commercial aspects, this makes sense.... but as consumer I can only think of it as a pain in the neck. my old universal has a high res display, a 3,5mm audioconnector, a well made keyboard and a fast cpu... years ago... a shame it is the size of a brick .
If someone would mad it possible to use the Compass HW with WinMo i would gladly set a bounty of 50$.
Goal would be a little App to proof that it ist working plus the sourcecode for other Devs.
Does anyone join in?
its probably another 'tv out' scenario...
basically the chipset has the tech but other required hardware / software is not present hence the features can never be used.
why on earth HTC cripple devices like this is boggling.....if the HD had been released with TV-out (which the qualcomm chipset supports) & a hw compass (to be confimed) it would have levelled the competition.....
i am sure their marketing strategy has good reasons for not doing...but as said earlier from the consumers point of view its a pain in the butt...especially considering some of us are locked in 24 month contracts.!! so wont be purchasing other handsets even if we wanted too.
lets hope some clever devs find a way to unlock these features!! (if possible)

I disagree your argumentation:
Developers here wrote drivers to implement TMC and RDS into the features of the Blackstone. HTC hasnĀ“t done it yet.
HTC seems to leave possible feature unused. Maybe to save time for their developers.
The old topic of a missing video driver is another example for that.

50$ from me for unlocking the feature + another 100$ if anyone makes it work with Google Maps + another 100$ if someone makes an augmented reality app like Wikitude (Android).
Only if it's done before the release of the HTC Leo
It's a AK8976A chip
well i would chip in $50 as well .. if it worked !!

Byes
haha, did anyone think that they mite have released the phone in haste, or maybe they did it on purpose to allow the release of the HD pro to include such features, along with a 128GB internal memory (i wish).

I've read the same thread from Tuxhero and I have to see it before I believe it. The only thing we've got is a blanket statement that he has read it somewhere. Someone else created slight confusion on this site before with similar statements.
Not saying that he's lying (in fact, I hope he's right), a source would help. Until then, I'm not getting my hopes up.
Im guessin they didnt include alot of features cause when the phone was released whoever ws going to buy it would buy it anyway, and when competitors (Iphone3gs) release phones with features like the compass thing etc , htc can easily release newer phones with the same features ... sort of like having it ready on earlier models so when they need to release it they can quickly!
My guess
