I've been using the Tilt since late January and have treated the thing like a king....but today it died. The guy at the AT&T corporate store said it was a battery problem...so he replaced it and it worked for like an hour. He now says that the phone is defective.
He is having a new one sent to me and it will be here in 5 days and when I get the new one I don't want it anymore........I will gladly sell the thing for $250 plus shipping. If any of you want a spare or know someone who would like one please let me know. I bought another phone while at the phone store so if nobody buys it from me I'm throwing it in the trash.

This will be the third Tilt I've received and I'm tired of this poorly designed phone, so think of it this way. Getting a few bucks out of the phone will help me recoup some of the money I've lost, but donating the phone to a charity is idiotic because it's not nice to give something that's essentially broken by design. If I give it to a developer here I'm out even more money on shipping, and I'll never hear the end of it for *donating a defective phone. I'll just be asked why did I bother it's just junk. Making the transfer a financial transaction I can make the other party responsible for their actions by full disclosure.

after seeing quite a number of posts about dead tilts...often with it being the 2nd, or even 3rd+ tilt that has died...
i'm wondering if perhaps some of these issues are related to voltage regulation.
in other words, maybe the tilts are getting fried due to over/under voltage issues...whether it be from bad a/c at the house, or from the laptop usb port (i know when i plug my tilt into one specific computer i can "feel" the electricity in the buttons...that can't be good)...or from starting the car with the tilt in the cigarette lighter (i wouldn't ever advise that), or just from a faulty charger.
over time any of the above issues could kill any electronic device.
maybe the tilt is just more sensitive to voltage issues than other phones.... and so when one tilt is replaced, the next one dies too...because the same over/under voltage problem is still present. ...just a thought...i haven't experienced any problems with my tilt...yet

I live in Columbus Ohio and I take all my electronics to the local DIY store as they do recycling there and not at the community I live in. Saying I'm going to throw it in the *trash is my way of saying I'm going to get rid of it with other similar junk people don't want anymore.
In fact I must take all my electronics to a recycling place because my community will fine me big time if I take it to the dumpster that they rent.
I'm from MI and they do far less recycling there so when I was a kid basically anything that had lost it's use was *trashed, even if it went to a recycle bin somewhere.

My first Tilt went crazy on me around day 2-3 when it just started to jumble all the characters on the screen and redraw images in random pixelated blocks of ****. So I took it to the store I got it from and they verified that it was a crazy phone and gave a me a new one on the spot.

I'd like to think your on to something, but in my case I've tried several different chargers in several different places and even different branded batteries, and still a no go on getting a properly functioning Tilt.

I am thinking about getting one like this for my car obviously to up the gps and cellular signal strength.
A question I have for any TyTn II experts, Which antenna does the WiFi use, is it integrated into the cellular antenna or gps or neither?
Neither, I believe all three have their own internal antennas. I say this because I have seen the internal photos of the Hermes and Trinity (which has GPS) and they had seperate small antennas. The Kaiser has two external antenna ports but after bricking my 1st Hermes by plugging an external antenna in and having it kill my radio, I'll never play the external game again. Besides it seems to work very well on all radios, even simultaneously, without externals.

The first photo is with the rubber grommet off and you can see the hole that goes through to the documented external GPS antenna. In the red circle is a piece of plastic that is blocking another external antenna port.
The 2nd photo is with the whole back off and inside the circle again you can see the extra antenna port.

5. I like the antenna. Now if it had an XM antenna in it, I would buy it in a heartbeat. It would also work great for wardriving (not with my Tilt, but with my laptop)

The way you made your statement, it sounded like you needed drivers for the GPS antenna, which is not true. You need drivers to utilize the GPS radio. Two different things. You even got the two mixed up in the same post.
I seriously doubt the Kaiser is 5 years old. Where are you getting this information??
Personally I think your statements tend to ramble and be incoherent, but I digress. The Kaiser is an excellent phone. I love having built-in GPS. I am probably going to buy an external GPS antenna for it, although it really doesn't need it. I can even get 2-3 birds inside my house.

What does this mean? That HTC or other cell phone manufacturer are removing components on a board they've already produced before they release a new phone? Why on earth would they do that when they could save the cost of buying the additional circuitry in the first place and just order a run of what they want?

Not really, no. It sounds like you're saying the Kaiser is using a board that's five years old and has physically had circuits removed from it because HTC didn't want to provide all of the features/functions that they could. I sincerely doubt that this is the case, since they'll produce a couple million of these things and paying even $1 extra for circuits they'll remove and labor to remove them makes no sense when they can order up a board that they want and get it for cheaper.
Throw in that you posted in all caps (considered rude by just about everyone) and then provided information that just doesn't add up, I'm not surprised you got push back.

no one said anything about removal, baords for the most part have alot of he circuits on them it makes it vary easy to acomplish global standards and upgrades and maximizing profit by making upgrades look tangible.

i would look for any type of after market booster car kit easiest way is google the word china after it and you would be shocked what youll find they can pretty much customize anything the word to use for phones in china is not cellular or htc.. pocket pc

Don't insult us by calling us "genius". There are a lot of very smart people on this board. Without their help, my phone wouldn't be nearly as fun to play with.
You made a pretty broad assumption that if one or two phones have GPS built-in, then all of them do. The fact is, very few phones have GPS built-in. My last phone, the 8525, was a very good phone with lots of features. It's less than a year old and it doesn't have GPS. Go ahead and keep making those assumptions and you'll stand out as someone who doesn't know how to do any kind of research. You will make yourself look like a fool.

However, after in-depth investigation these XDA folks identified that while the IC Chipset did have GPS as part of it's standard fratures, HTC shorted those particular pins to ground on the circuit board and did not include the internal amp and antenna assembly as well so it was impossible to make it work on them without major micro surgery. The Trinity, however, had the components and thru software was able to have it's GPS come to life. But certainly all phones don't have Chipsets with integrated GPS.
I would agree that many companies will use a particular chip and elect NOT to provide all of the features at first release or for specific models, that is normal marketing driven buisness and gives us reasons to buy the next model.
XDA certainly has made it possible for us all to reap the collective tinkering experience and get more from the phones we have and sometimes get these hidden features with a little work.
No disrespect "aboutthemind", but I must agree that your text is a challenge to understand, but I'm always amazed at the worldwide, round-the-clock, activity on this forum. I've learned so much here.

I remember that discussion well about the 8525 GPS. I think one guy even had the GPS working, but only by disassembling the phone and having wires running everywhere. Not exactly portable...

Actually they got the GPS chip activated but could receive no valid data since the antenna bits were not present, they investigated the internal components and determined that it was basically not worth the effort to attempt to unsoldier all of the grounded pins on the chip and then get an amp/bandpass filter and antenna installed. No one ever got a 8525 to work and the project halted, but along came Kaiser!

My Wing has only one external connection. I bought a 3 watt Wilson booster which then goes to a Yagi (one directional antenna). Its awesome the reception I get. Costs about $300.00 to do all this.

let me ask you a question, what gives you the right to speak for another person, I would you like to help the gentle man that was here for help cause i am confused as to why you want me to engage in this. i will if we can all end up with a gps that also gives you real-time police positions. Linberg i strongly sugest you bring a positive opinion to this one cause so far your not really contributing to a solution.

Sorry man, but I can't make any sense out of what you're trying to say. I didn't put any words into your mouth. I don't know where you got that idea.
You made some pretty broad statements about GPS in phones and I told you that that is not true - most phones do not have GPS built-in. The 8525 has some of the hardware, but it is not a complete, workable solution.
Also, I did not call you a fool. I said you would look like a fool if you made broad statements about phones in general that are not true.

I found a Kaiser phone at my house after a party I had last weekend. It had a password on it but no sim card in it. I asked around and none of my friends/anyone we know are missing a kaiser, so I guess this one is up for grabs. I did some research on it and it seems to be a really excellent phone, a significant upgrade from my old, old razr, so since no one has claimed it I thought about keeping it.
My question is if I put my sim card into it, is there any way AT&T can track me down and accuse me of stealing it? If so, I may as well just sell it on ebay or craigslist rather than go through the hassle of defending myself over something that was left at my house.
well considering it was left at your house and if you asked everyone there if they lost it and they said no I wouldn't worry about it.
You might want to consider something really radical, taking it to AT&T and let them track down the owner. If it has a SIM card they can determine who is the owner.

Seems strange to say the least - who goes around with a phone with the sim slot empty
I asked around and none of my friends/anyone we know are missing a kaiser...
My question is if I put my sim card into it, is there any way AT&T can track me down and accuse me of stealing it?

Now you have my attention, my advise is to report it to AT&T and hand it in to the Police. Even if your party guests cant remember losing a Tilt at your place, there's no doubt it does belong to someone and that someone will be missing it. Even if that someone has insurance which covers it, the phone will be locked if an attempt is made to use it (at least thats what they do here in the UK) so it's only worth will be as parts but even then they're not your parts to sell.
Put yourself in the shoes of the person who has 'lost' it. If it's an AT&T contract phone, the IMEI number will enable them to track down the rightful owner very quickly and even if the sticker/markings are defaced, that info is within the phones programming.

Hmm no offence but this sounds a bit dodgy...why would someone leave a phone which costs around 300 pounds and not try to find it? The first thing I'd do would be to trace back my activities on the day I lost my phone. So you would have me in your house the next day asking if you haven't found it.
True but if it's a kaiser oem and not an actual Tilt, AT&T might not have the info. Taking it to the police is good, also you can put an ad in the paper stating lost PDA but not give what it is to see if real owner calls.

I actually found a Sidekick2 at my local Target a few months back just sitting on a shelf in an aisle I was shopping in. I took it up to customer service and turned it in the lady asked me how they would be able to find out who's it was I said call 611 T-Mobile will know.

I live in the United States. The nearest AT&T store is about 50 minutes one way away from my home, which translates to about $30 in gas to just to turn it in. I stated in the original post that it did not have a SIM in it.

A bit dodgy? I suppose you're implying that you think I stole it. Let me reassure you I did not. It was Saturday night over a week ago, people were drinking, and there were friends of friends who came to the party that my roommates and I didn't know. In an age of dual SIM slots, separate work and personal phones, and college kids who share phones, is it impossible to believe that someone may have swapped the card out and then mistakenly forgot where they lost the phone? It has been over a week and there has been no word from anyone, nor has anyone shown up at my doorstep.

It is an actual Tilt. Says AT&T on the top right corner. Once again let me stress that spending money to find the owner of this phone is out of the question. At the moment I am $28 short of the money I need to buy a ($158, used) book required to do my homework for college. My solution? I'm basically not eating while going into class super early to borrow a classmate's book to do my homework until I can afford to purchase my own.

The missing SIM card is the greatest mystery. Who would leave their phone behind without the SIM card? Was the SIM door open when you found it? What state was it in? On or off? What applications were open? Does it have an AT&T ROM?
No justification to keep it or sell it from me.

I stated in my post that it does have an IMEI number though and that does allow it's rightful owner to be traced (along with its serial number, any identifying marks/scratches or even fingerprints if it came down to it). Why have you not responded to my post? You asked for advise and I tried to help.

I've already answered that issue so what part of the phone being locked when someone attempts to use it isn't clear? I think you have already decided what you want to do and are now looking for justifications to support that. You're not going to get that from me.

Well, I decided to take your advice and call AT&T. The representative basically told me I have two options.
1.) Keep the phone.
2.) Pay to ship it to them.
He refused to answer any questions regarding legality of my use of it. At least I know now that AT&T doesn't care. It's another phone sale for them, after all.

You haven't answered a goddamn thing. I asked one simple question. Allow me to reiterate and explain. The police here need proper motivation to take something seriously. If I handed a phone in at the police station, they would likely laugh in my face. However, if some whiny moron comes in and reports a phone stolen and continues pressing the issue over and over with them, and then I turn up using it with my SIM card in it, I'm afraid they'll assume I'm guilty of stealing it when I am not. That is why I asked this ONE simple question that not a single person in this thread has answered. The circumstances of my acquisition are completely moot at this point. All I want is an opinion on whether or not my using this Kaiser could result in legal problems.
The only solutions I've been offered are ways to get the phone back to it's rightful owner. This is not the issue. This will not happen. I have already done everything in my power to try to get the phone back to who it belonged to (notice; PAST-TENSE).
Now allow me to once again make this perfectly clear. Does anyone have any experience with UNITED STATES police regarding their dedication to investigating reports of phone theft, and does my use of the phone in any way give them legal grounds to ASSUME that I am the thief and to cause me legal troubles when I did nothing wrong?
Edit: I just realized that you believe that AT&T locks the phone here. They do not. They do not enforce the blacklist, so should I put my SIM card in, I will be able to use it.

What makes you come to that conclusion? You say you made one call, are you judging all of AT&T on that basis? What makes you think it's another phone sale for them, the person who 'lost' the phone may well be using another old phone until the contract expires or they may have bought a different phone elsewhere to use on the AT&T network.

Did they say they're not (apparently) interested in tracking the phone back to them or is it just that they cant tell you who the rightful owner is for data protection reasons - you're jumping to a conclusion there which I think is the wrong one. Did you even offer the IMEI to them? It's a pity we don't have the other persons account of how the phone conversation went because there are lots of things here that don't add up.

Over here in limey land cellphone theft is commonly associated with other forms of crime as well so it'd be an unwise police officer who didn't take any interest in such an expensive phone turning up looking to go back to its rightful owner.

I think it's reasonable for people to offer advise based on your question even though it may not directly answer all of your question, after all, most of us here aren't lawyers who are trained to provide legal advise.

I seriously doubt that. When I handed in a (quite valuable looking) phone I found left on a train seat to the train companies lost and found dept and reported it to the police a few months ago, there was no laughing in my face at all, not even a little bit. In fact all involved were grateful and from what I gathered in my follow-up, the person later came and claimed their phone back.
However, if some whiny moron comes in and reports a phone stolen and continues pressing the issue over and over with them, and then I turn up using it with my SIM card in it, I'm afraid they'll assume I'm guilty of stealing it when I am not.

Even though you say YOU didn't steal it, how do you know it's not stolen (by someone else)? I wouldn't give you much of a chance if a case went to court for you having possession of a stolen item and you claimed well I didn't steal it and I'd done everything I reasonably can to try and sort it, without having at least handed it into the Police. Is that the sort of legal advise you wanted or is does that conflict to much with your plan to keep the phone or sell it for gain? As for keeping it, you are right I wasn't aware AT&T don't lock phones reported missing but I am aware networks can tell roughly where a given phone is while being used. If you want me to hold your hand and say there'll be no problems if you keep it or sell it, I'm unwilling to offer that. The fact you repeatedly don't seem willing to accept advise that is offered makes me think this is some kind of leg pulling excercise - if it is, congratulations, you've succeded in pulling my leg.

I could tell based on the tone of the representative's voice. He couldn't have cared less whether or not the person got their phone back or even if they bought their next phone from AT&T. However, since their former phone was an AT&T product, it is more likely than not that their next will be as well.

In regard to this part of your ridiculous post, I believe I will take your previous advice in that you are clearly quite unqualified to answer any questions regarding the legality of such a subject. Once again I find myself questioning whether you comprehended, or even read my last post. I am not asking for advice. Ha! It sounds proposterous, but it's pretty true...I had a good chuckle on this one.
Dude...wether or not you can use the phone is irrelevant cause the law is pretty clear on how you need to treat lost and found property...if caught using it you are as guilty as if you stole it yourself (going by the strict letter of the law)....so the question you need to ask yourself is wether its worth the trouble....the other thing you need to figure out is why would someone leave a phone without a SIM at your house and not claim it...is there a possibility that the phone itself is hot...(previously stolen and conveniently discarded at your place) my advice : too many variables and if's and maybe's just not worth the trouble ....
EDIT :- And yes its possible to track the phone through the IMEI number in the event the original user wants to do it...
Yesterday, I took a trip down to B&N to get a new charger since I'm still under warranty. (This is my second NC charger btw) The end that plugs into the nook just comes loose and wobbles up and down. This has happened both times (Don't know if it's just me or what).
The first time I went in, I just had to prove that I had a NC and I got my charger for free and it was as easy as that.
The second time however, the guy at B&N was a total prick. He had to look up my serial number and this and that, and he said the only way to find it was within the software (to identify that i bought it from B&N since best buy and walmart now sell it).
So I was a bit worried (I'm running Nookie Froyo 0.6.8 haha).
So the guy just kept my nook on the charge til we could boot it up to "find the serial".
Once it was booted up, this guy was just blown away. He was so impressed by the custom rom and the fact that I was just running A2.2 that his whole attitude changed.
After that it was like "wow man, you really know your stuff" "that's so cool!" "Let me see what I can do about a charger for you!" and so on.
In the end I got 2 new chargers. 1 In the mail from B&N customer service, and one in store once they get their shipment.
Moral of the story, The whole "Warranty is void" stuff doesn't really matter if the guy at B&N thinks you have an awesome device.
Oh, and for future reference for those of you who don't know, you can locate the serial number within the Micro SD Card slot. (as long as you have that, then you have a warranty)

Anywho, so my wife takes in the non-recharging nook and cord, and I had put the stock image back on but didn't know that I needed to do the 9-reboot system image refresh, so there were still some rooted elements on the phone.
Worker drills down into the "extras" menu and sees the rooted apps still on the device, then proceeds to berate (with a manager standing behind her!) my wife on how rooting the nook voided the warranty and how what she was tired of "people tampering with their machine and then asking us to fix everything" for 5 minutes in a voice loud enough for half the store to hear.
Needless to say my wife (a non-techie) was extremely embarassed and upset. She at least had the presence of mind to ask the employee to try out the cord on one of the store nooks and (surprise surprise!!) it didn't work!
Since the nook wasn't the issue the store replaced the cord (wonder if this is a recall-worthy issue?) and my wife left. I have since sent a letter to the regional manager expressing my disappointment at how she was treated, but wanted to give a word of warning that if you suspect the cord just take the cord itself into the store and ask them to try it on one of their in-store devices rather than have to deal with irate and rude salespeople for an unrelated issue.

The guy i talked to at B&N said that he even wanted me to show his supervisor and that she had wanted 2.2 on her NC as well.
I even left my contact info for them to reach me if they ever wanted me to do so for their nooks.
I'm just glad it went over so well because it's not likely to happen most of the time.
And I think you're totally right about the length of the charger. It IS too long and it makes it easy to bend to become lose and break!

That's a great story. I'm glad it all worked out.
I had to return my nexus one and it had an unlocked boot loader. People say a lot about "warranty" without actually reading it. And a lot of haters will tell you its void cause they never took that step.
Most of the time if the problem has nothing to do with rooting or if it's a hardware problem you're good

This never happens to me or my wife . I have a talent for embarrassing purple in public. One I almost never get to use since I believe people shouldn't be treated that way. I would have probably taken a trip down there to chat with them. Good job on the letter and keeping your cool. This was all done In front of the manager? And what is their machine? It wasnt "ours" on the receipt....
One thing I noticed over the weekend on a car trip - it seems that the charger from my droid works just fine on my Nook (though not vice-versa due to the prong length), so if they give you warranty hassles you might have a cord lying around to use as a backup.
My charger is doing the same thing. I have had my nc since saturday, the plug was already bent slightly. I thought ok, it must be that way on purpose until sitting with it charging and my hand bent it back the right way. Recall sounds about appropriate. I think if it gives up. I will pay the 25 bucks to avoid such cases... you never know how they are going to react to the warranty/rooted thing.
I did have a similar scare with my phone. It was severly tweaked. The screen went wacky and when i called to get an insurance replacement, they sent a warranty replacement instead. Needless to say i was never so glad that they acidentally sent the replacemet to california rather than colorado. In the extra trip time, my phone died completely and i still haven't been charged for the warranty/rooting issue

Moral is, I have had my NC for less than a week and may need a new charger soon...

A standard Micro USB charges the Nook just fine, just takes a little bit longer then the Nook cable. I keep the nook one by my bed, and just use the cable that came with my Samsung Moment for my desktop/laptop.

Does the standard cable have the neat glowy bit? Though I agree its a good substitute when you need a new one. They should fix their **** and not use our rooting as an excuse.

Yea i do the same. I bought some cheapos from Monoprice.com and they work excellent.
and for those of you that have not heard of monoprice. I ordered 4 10 foot gold plated connectors, w/ ferret magnet HDMI cables, and 4 10 foot Micro USB cables for 30bucks shipped.
Shameless plug but saving money is good.

I'm telling you right now if i need to replace my USB cable i'm walking w/ an old one and walking out with a new one. The USB cable has nothing to do with the rooting process. nor the rooted device. It's completely a defective part regardless of the condition of the device.
Nothing like lousy customer service to upset your customer base. When you receive lousy service you're more likely to talk about it with family and friends then you are if you receive good service. That's not to mention the fact that your spending money in their store/place of service is what pays their salary.
Good for you for writing to the regional manager and calling the employee and manager out on their lousy service.

lol so true. Look ad this thread for example. It was actually about a god experience but one bad employee (and a bad manager) set off a chain of ugly.
For some reason these types of employees have this mindset that they are helping the company's bottom line by pulling this kind of stuff when it comes to returns, exchanges, warranty. In reality...this kind of treatment is exactly why people start boycotting stores and taking their business elsewhere.
Like they say...don't bite the hand that feeds you.

When you work in customer service you can't go all ape**** on someone just because you had a bad day. That's just not a valid excuse. Either you give them what they want or you deny them in a courteous and respectful manner. If they don't accept your answer that's what your manager is there for. In this particular scenario, it sounds like the manager was already there. But regardless...you should never put yourself in a position where the customer can say that you were treating them poorly. Even if you were correct in your assessment of the situation, things can still go bad for you.
If you can't keep your cool, you probably don't want to have a job where you have direct interaction with customers.
My job is nothing but customer service all day. Do I deal with people who drive me nuts and try to advantage of me? Of course! But that doesn't mean I let them know that. There are professional ways to handle those types of situations and then there are the ways that get your company talked about in a negative manner on forums such as this.
I'm not judging. I have over 20 years of customer service experience. I know what good service is and what it means. It's what keeps people coming back to the place you work. It's what pays your salary at the end of the day. That and honesty.
Let's be honest here...do you keep going back to places of business where you get lousy service time after time after time? Most people don't.
I returned my Nook and got a new one and was amazed at how much better the screen is. Mine had a slight bleed at the bottom I wasn't sure if that was all of them or not.
Anyways aside from the bleed gone, the screen is much more vibrant and clear. Just an fyi if anyone has a weird screen don't settle!
Cool, mine has a dead pixel that appeared only 2 days after I purchased it - I've been debating whether or not it's worth the time to reflash back to stock, etc... etc... and exchange it. I think I will.
My first nook had white splotches on the screen. I took it back to the store and the guy wouldn't exchange it. As soon as I told him I wanted my money back he changed his mind and gave me another one. He was a ****.
Then, after a week, the nook started creaking and squeaking all around the bezel. I called to get it exchanged. They said I had to go into the store. I went into the store. They said I had to do it online or on the phone. I called on the phone and argued with some lady for 30 minutes after which she told me that if I sent my current nook back and they didn't think anything was wrong with it, they'd charge me $250. I hung up and called right back and got a woman who was ok and told me the other lady was an idiot. Thanks guys.
I received my third nook in the mail. The A/C charger jack was broken. I couldn't put the jack in. So i called to get this replaced and argued with some guys in India for an hour and finally got a replacement.
I'm on my 4th nook. Barnes and Noble sucks and I will never buy another electronic device from them again.

I called to deregister a device since I forgot to deregister before returning a NC and the lady was an idiot reading from a script she didn't even understand.
Roku is another horrible company for India scripted phone support.
Unfortunaley India gets beat up a lot by Americans for this when it might not be so bad if the scripts were taken away and they just hired smarter people.
I got mine at best buy, and getting it replaced for the phantom ghost tap issue was easy as pie. The new one works great. The girl at the counter was kinda cute too, so it was like win-win!

My wife and I both got a NC, same store, about a month apart. Both of ours work perfectly.
Don't assume because you had 2 problematic NC's doesn't mean everyone has, or that overall quality is bad. (Yes, I said 2.)
The only issue with my screen is some binding/pinching where the bezel meets the LCD which causes slight bright spots at the bottom edge. I've seen this same issue with lower quality LCD monitors. Otherwise pleased with screen quality. Having worked in electronics manufacturing, I came to learn how variable quality control can be with some manufacturers.
Best Buy has one month reuturns but after that your screwed unless u buy insurance. my 1st NC ate an 8 gig microUSB and started bleeding by the vol. B&N took sent another straight away with postage paid for the return. NO PROB and they do have a vibrant screen from all angles.
a case would keep your nook safe from most screen probs, and be shure to line up your mcards.

Technically yes, but they will help with warrenty issues after that date to some degree as well.

I did buy the insurance, but didn't have to use it even though it was something like 45 days or more after I bought it. I brought it in planning to use the insurance (which is a one time shot apparently), but she told me they could just do it as a warranty exchange since it was so new. I'm not really sure how long they extend it for, but I was happy.

Wow, yeah, my post was just soooo long.
If you read it, it said I had three bad nooks (Yes, I said 3). I never said everyone has bad ones. I said I won't buy from them again because their support sucks and their products are defective.
Maybe next time you comment on a post, read it first.
My first NC was defective. It had a bad accelerometer and/or a bad power button. Essentially, if you set it down occasionally it would act as if you pressed and held the power button and then tapped OK to shut down the tablet.

I'd bought the extended warranty but this happened within the first week of ownership. I talked to the manager of the store where I bought it and she swapped it for a new one and applied the warranty to NC #2. I'd heard the phone support was horrible, so made it a point to buy it locally. I'm glad I did.
I'm loving my new one. I'm going to Hawaii in a week and, for the first time in my life, will be travelling without a laptop. All I'm taking is my NC and a BT keyboard for it.

Wow, good thing the store owner was helpful. The guy on staff at my local BN refused to do anything and said all returns or exchanges definitely needed to go through the website.
I'm still not happy with my current Nook. The panel below the "N" button is depressed on both sides. But I'm sticking with it for now.
Backlight bleeding is pretty much the norm for any LCD screen. I've seen it on desktop monitors, TVs, laptops, tablets...etc. It will exist on even on the top of the line models and "best" brands.
If you just have only some slight backlight bleeding, I would discourage you from trying to exchange it. You're likely to get something worse like dead pixels.
I spent half an hour one the support line a second ago because my USB cable fried. The lady tried to have me enter my credit card number for some reason so I could buy "NOOKBooks". I argued with her for about 5 minutes and then she told me all I need to enter is my shipping address. She said that they would mail the replacement cable free of charge in 24 to 48 hours.
I didn't spend anytime on hold even though the automated message said that they are flooded with tech support calls.

Smarter people ask for a lot of money (if they are paying more money then whats the point of outsourcing) even in India only those who can't really find another job for themselves take up job's in call center's.

For god's sake, whatever you do, don't buy:
Flytouch 3 superpad 2 (or any of its clones).
The support forum is filled with problems with the clones, too many to list.
The Ibex Flytouch 3 originals have very poor batteries, supposed to be 8000 mAh (2 x 4000), and are more like 2 x 1800. Most people are having troubles getting them to accept a charge at all.
Their internal GPS is locked to China, SOME people have managed to unlock them by spending a couple of hours deleting caches, rebooting, trying to re-fix the satellites, repeat until working or give up. MOST people still have not managed to unlock the GPS from China.
Market ONLY shows the free apps (something to do with fake sim numbers being too fake and illegitimate). When you are sent to market from an email, website, or even the tablets OWN auto update service, it won't show the app you are looking for.
They MAY appear to be cheap value-for-money Android tablet alternatives; trust me, they ARE NOT. Save up more money and get a proper named brand tablet.

My Flytouch 3 is no more, at about 4 days old the charging battery exploded, melting the FT3 and scorching the computer desk.
I urge anyone thinking of buying one of the Ibex Flytouch 3's, or its clones (Superpad 2 or 3) - DON'T!

my 32gb iBex Flytouch3 works perfectly. Would recommend iBex Flytouch3 (real FT3) to my friends.
I bought flytouch3 from taobao.com. It cost almost 250 USD.
It may be the most expensive one in taobao, but it works good.
It can standby at least 6 hrs, and the GPS works in Taiwan.
Market can show all apps including the charged apps.

Yes another classic example of somebody not doing their homework before buying something and then blindly attacking it with a soldering iron and hacksaw.
I'm more than satisfied with mine, it's not the fastest piece of kit, but for €150 it's certainly worth the money if you have a good working knowledge of Android and now how to fix a few quirks.
If you read around the forums, there is support for all of them. I have yet to have found an issue that couldn't be remidied in one way shape or form. I bought mine for $150 US shipped. I'm no knocking Ibex. Just merely stating that their pad isn't the only option. Open minded-ness is what I'm getting at. I've heard a lot of bad things about ChinaGrabber's return policy's etc., and that left a bad taste in my mouth. I wanted an inexpensive pad with some support on the US side (I.e warranty issues). I know I could have purchased something else, but this was what I wanted.

I've now been playing with my FT3 couple of days and I'm very happy with it, with Tim5a rom everything works, Market (it shows paid apps if I buy them from my Android cellphone). GPS works well out of the box, it's fast, Youtube, Flash all working. Battery life is very good, I don't keep it on standby as it does eat the battery even without wifi off. If you've ever used a Android phone this feels like home and the performance is the same. Resistive screen just gets a little bit more to get used to compared to capacitive but it's really responsive. Videos play very nicely, only tried 720p but all worked without a single lag.
Hey this thread scared me at start but then it looks like it ended up very good.

The best guide is to install Tim5a rom the speed increase is very good, try it stock before upgrading to see the difference.

Really if you want an ANDROID tablet then save your money and buy a legitimate Android Tablet from a well known manufacturer. It's the WORST money I've ever spent in my life.
