Hey guys,
I am going to take my device to an ATT device support center on monday, which means I am having to reflash to the original software. Unfortunately I lost the file on my hard drive containing all of the original software versions. If someone could advise me as to what to flash I would really appreciate it.
I got the phone at the beginning of September 2008. If there are any numbers on the back of the phone that could tell me when it was manufactured, let me know. That might give me an idea which ROM or SPL to reflash.
Thanks!

Thanks, guy. Been there, read that. A simple "I don't know. But I would like to be an anus to you for no good reason" would have at least been more honest. I'm not trying to start a flame war here, but this is a specific question. There are 50 pages there, and I have been through a great many of them. Your post has wasted both your time and mine. Next time, be helpful.
For anyone else who woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning, I have searched "Recover spl," "Remember SPL," and "Forgot SPL."
If it helps to rephrase my question, here it is:
I cannot recall which software versions were present on my phone originally. Did anyone receive their phone around the same time who could tell me what their original software was? And can I use the serial number to determine the date of manufacture? Thank you!

Before you try and give me any attitude, I do not know the answers to those qustions but, more importantly, since it's possible to freely upgrade to the latest AT&T WM 6.1 ROM avail here on top of the wiki page http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Kaiser_ROMs , why does it matter? You can just throw the latest version on, revert the SPL and be done with it.
For future reference it's always helpful if you can state relevant thread steps/wikis etc that you've already tried/reviewed or it's no wonder you'll get a 'read the wiki' type response. I was all set to post a similar reply so no I don't think denco7 got out of bed on the wrong side.

Thank you for the response. I probably should have said that I had already looked around. I have spent a good deal of time on forums across the web, and denco's response is all too common. Perhaps he did misunderstand my question, but referring me to the search function in such a fashion is insulting and unhelpful. I could read the first page of the ROM Dev section and find that link. I apologize for lashing out. I still would like to know if there is any way to find the manufacture date and correlate it to a SPL version.

You do realise that the SPL will change when the device is officially updated to WM 6.1 don't you - ie there's no need to know. I say this because I doubt anyone other than AT&T or HTC would keep a register of such details, let alone serial numbers. FWIW my HTC branded TyTN II has a date on the antenna sticker above the battery and to the left of the camera lens, maybe the Tilt is the same. I do vaguely recall some facility on HTCs website (don't ask me where but it was warranty claim/RMA/Support related) that gives you warranty expiry details when you plug in the device serial number - from that you can also get a date.
Now, does that satisfy your need and if not, why not ie what are you concerned about? Despite what you may think, we are voluteers who genuinely want to help if people are reasonable and civil and if there's an easy way to accomplish a task but someone wants to do it a harder way, I think people will be curious to know why.

When returning your phone to the ATT Device support center.. Just flash the origional shipped roms located on the wiki link already given to you. When you flash the shipped rom it will overwrite with the shipped spl.

Settle down..
People are helping you, We wouldn't know the condition of the phone when it was handed to you. So either:
A: flash a shipped att rom which can be EASILY found on the WIKI.
B: Head over to the HTC Site and go into support and give them your serial number and see what they can do as far as pointing you to the shipped rom.
Try to be more respectful to your fellow XDA Members.

I'm sure it's been covered in a thread but I'm not able to find it so would appreciate someone explaining the following......
Is it possible to flash my bog standard M700 with the latest HTC ROM from their website?
I've been given a copy but I couldn't download it because of the Orange IMEI number would not resolve. Presumably there are no issues due to this and it will work just fine?
Lastly, has anyone written a step by step idiot guide to doing this? If not could someone please reply and tell me? I'm not all that techy with ROMs but can am OK with PCs and registry stuff etc.
Many thanks in advance!!
You're right it has been covered ;-), HOWEVER.....
NO you cannt use the HTC version on the Orange M700, it's just for the HTC branded phones. SO now relax and get a cooked version... Either MUN-RUS OR LVSW's are good. I personally have the LVSW version......
Look for it in the Trinity WM6 forum.
In the first post is ALL the software you need, grab all 3 bits of software, apply them in order as listed in the instructions. And thats it, shiney new WM6 M700.... however remeber after you do this to remake all the MMS settings etc etc otherwise Photo Messaging etc etc wont work BUT on Oranges' web site there is a "me Proof" guide to putting it right ;-)
Thats it, go get'em fella
Thanks, Just out of interest, why won't the HTC ROM work, after all it's still an HTC device!
Being lazy... do you have the link to the post please?
So you found this site, BUT cannt within this site find the Trinity Mobile 6 Forum or read the very first 2 posts in there?
Get a grip ;-)
As for the HTC thing... guess it's to stop people taking thier software off them and using it elsewhere, and all the troubles that entails with licsencing etc, ALSO dont forget Orange "Value Add" to the phone (brand the day lights out of it ;-) )
Yes found the link!! Just didn't think it was that obvious so wasn't looking at the top! Dohh!
What's Value Add?
Can anyone point me toward instructions on how to extract or backup my exiting Orange M700 ROM in can the upgrade goes pear shapped?
Still a little confused as to why the HTC ROM will not work. Can someone explain properly please?
It is all explained on the forums if, as deech says you "get a grip"
Do a search.
The reason upgrading will not work is mentioned in this the upgrade forum if you look. If you can't even look for it I'm not sure you'll understand the information though as it would involve thinking.
The way to backup a rom is also mentioned in this forum. In fact if you could be bothered to search you could quite easily find one that's already been made by one of the members of this forum in this forum section. It's even on this first page of this upgrade forum.
I don't quite agree with Deech though. I say you should get off your lazy arse and actually look for the information you want rather than just expecting everyone to point out information that's right in front of your eyes if you just look.
Sorry to flame but it drives me nuts that people can be so lazy and expect everyone else to find the information for them.
Value Add..... all those shiney little things that Orange and Vodafone etc add to the basic software, Like the WAP portal, Today Pages, etc etc, a straight HTC ROM (or Nokia, or Motorloa) ROM is very plain and boring, but often works sooo much better than that provided by the Mobile Company after they have "tinkered" with it, hence Value Added.
I agree though you shouldnt be re-flashing your phone if you cannt work the search button and read and FULLY understand what the hell is happening, and how to make things right IF they go wrong ;-)
If you know ehere something is it take 10 seconds to actually be helpful and tell someone whos asks in a polite manner!!
For example you would have trouble finding the difference between a half inch Whitworth and a half in UNC bolt!! I, on the other hand could tell you in less then 10 seconds.
Thanks for all your help!
Excuse me all overe the place BUT... I've just trawled through here and can't find anywhere that says the M700 cannot be flashed with the latest Trinity ROM from HTC, and the reasons why.
Am I right?
Here's what you do. Download the official HTC ROM and try flashing your phone with it, then you might actually believe us when we tell you that you can't flash your phone with it. The official reason that you can't use it on your phone is because your phone isn't actually an HTC phone, it's an Orange SPV M700. Or so they'll have you believe.
I understand the difference between a half" Whitty and a half" UNC. One's a Whitty and one's a UNC, easy
Read the forums, then ask questions.
Peace,
BS...

Hi m8, Looks like you're in need of a little friendly advice, so here goes!
Despite what they're all telling you in this thread, you *CAN* quite easily flash the latest HTC Trinity ROM to your M700... You will first need to unlock your phone OR use the SoftSPL method described in this thread:-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293632
Unfortunately, you will need to educate yourself a little to achieve what you desire and this means READ and UNDESTAND the above thread before you attempt anything!
All the ROM's you could ever wish for are available through this site, here :-
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Trinity_Upgrades
To be even more helpful, the HTC ROM you require is here :-
http://rapidshare.com/files/2296300...1_1_.23.405.2_103_6275_1.38.00.11_108_GPS.exe
(Looking at one of your other help question threads, it looks like you don't know how to download from Rapidshare, you need to go to the bottom of the above linked page and click the "FREE" button, then choose your download site from the page that follows... enter the security key as shown and dah dah.... a download!)
If you need any further help then PM me, rather than filling up this thread any further!
I hope this helps!

Happy to help, but you ask a question I answered it.
As for showing off about Whit / UNC threads..... dont judge books by thier covers, in real life I am a Marine Engineer serving on some of the largest container ships ever built in a very senior position
Now please please take the time to learn about your phone, read all the fora here, and sort out what it is you want to do. And happy flashing once you pop you cannt stop
LOL. is all I can say. You haven't got a hope in hell.
You CAN'T flash the HTC to an M700 because it's locked to Orange. (Similar to a sim lock... Need that explained? Or can you search now??)
Unlock it and you're laughing. (As Mozzer says)
When I posted last, less than 5 posts below yours asking about backing up the rom was the post containing the last link Mozzer has given you, as I said it was even on the first page of threads, not far to look. A forum search for M700 would have shown it immediately.
Backing up the ROM is much harder than flashing it so would have been out of the question for you.
As for UNC and Whitworth. All I can say is congratulations. You, like pretty much all of us (if not all of us) here, also have knowledge in other fields.
I won't bother trying to make myself look big by quizzing you.
I have to admit I have very little knowledge of these devices and am forever endebted to the members of this forum for the information that is shared here and the work put in by many. The difference between you and me is I don't demand it on a plate.
I can use the search engine and look at Stickies. They're stickied for a reason! That reason is either to warn you of forum regulations OR because they are important.
It's not that hard to look in the Trinity subforum and at the first topic which is a link to the Trinity Wiki. (U know what a wiki is? Or is that not of interest as it's not UNC?)
In the Trinity Upgrading sub forum:
5 posts below this (probably seven when I submit this) is a thread entitled:
Moz's RUU_Trinity_Orange_UK_1.23.61.5_1.38.00.11_GSM_NoI PL_NoSPL.exe
Hmmmmmmmmmm. Wonder what that is..... I admit it's a tad convoluted. But you know you have a trinity which is badged by orange.
Third sticky down is entitled:
SSPL (or flashing any ROM 4 free)
Can't think what that's about. I want to flash my M700 with HTC branded.. Could this help? Naah I'll just save time and get everyone to do it for me.
In the Trinity Mobile 6 forum:
First 2 Stickies.. Wonder what they do. Won't bother looking.
Can anyone tell me how to wipe my arse. I've lost the ability to see and use my hands.
In my last post if you look I gave you some clues as to where you could find what you wanted. I'm on alot of forums and people who can't be arsed to have a look for themselves piss me off. If you'd looked and said I've found this that and the other but I'm not sure about it could someone help explain please I'd have done what I could to explain. But you couldn't even do that!
Many Thanks MOZZER!
At least there is someone here who has taken the time to be helpful.
So Deech... what is the difference i between half inch Whit and UNC?
Hi Mozzerr!
As you were kind enough to help with sensible answers could you please advise on the following:
I feel that the Orange ROM on the M700 seems a bit shaky and the GPS take forever to make a cold start... just a gut feeling it's probably the ROM hence the view to flash it.
In your opinion are there any major advantager to WM6 over the HTC release. I don't use 3G stuff or other advance comms mail etc. just the Phone, Active synce stuff, MP3s, Camera and TomTom via the GPS?
What would you do?
Ah now a sensible question.
WM6 is considerably faster than WM5 when it comes to loading menus and programs (and as far as I've found is completely stable).
There currently appear to be a few people who have a battery drain issue, which I for one have not had and should be ironed out soon.
If you use tomtom there is a cab somewhere (I forget where) in the Windows Mobile 6 forum called ATIfix.cab which fixes the freeze issue (if you get it).
If you're going to go to WM6, which I personally would recommend, you can always flash back to the HTC flash if you don't like it.
TBH other than speed for what you've listed as items you use it'd be more about the look and feel of it, so try both and go with what you're happier with.
I hope that helps.
Just remember you loose all the Orange Branding when you flash, so "IF" you find any of it remotely useful it will disappear, including settings for MMS etc.
The Tom Tom Freeze thing seems pretty common, mine idi it big time, but everything else is nicer, faster and smoother.
WM6 is..... nice and well worth it
There is a cab on the forums with all the MMS setting on this forum. I think I linked relinked it somewhere in the Mobile 6 forum, plus some people have extracted several of the orange programs and posted them.
I bought a ATT tilt and its unlocked. I'm using it with tmobile. Does anybody know if att released new roms? I see this at my reset
1.27.12.11
22.45.88.o7H
1.57.00.00
If there is something newer, how would i dload it, and what features does it add?
The only thing I did to my unit was do a hard reset and didnt install the att software.
u can upgrade your radio, and you might not want to use at&t's rom. Try the roms that are in Kaiser upgrading portion of this forum. Make sure you install hardspl properly before attempting to upgrade radio/rom.
But what kind of features do these upgrades do?
What do you mean?? Each rom is for a specific reason and they tell you what is in the release.

If you need to ask, then no. All ROM Chefs include the relevant info in thier original posts. If you are incapable of reading english or are inept at using the multiple search options available, then go back to using your Razr. Hello Moto?
Hey Nick, before talking and sticking foot in your mouth with your childish remarks and quick comebacks, go READ my first post.
I can't believe you tell me that I'm incapable of reading english.. When you yourself can't read what the post is about before responding.
I was asking about the ATT roms. I did NOT ask about the ROMs that people are putting together. But I see your quick 10 year old whip got the best of you by letting you read only the last post to my thread, in which the person was telling me to use the hacked roms.
I was trying to figure out if it would be worth trying to do the normal updates to the att tilt.
edit: Editing so I don't sound like you. I can see how your mind thought I was talking about the cooked roms if you read ONLY the last responses by people. When I asked what they would do, I was talking more like a generalized response on why I would want the cooked rom vs the att. And by they way, try and do a search for: ROM, att, update, patches and tell me how many responses come back. That would be nuts reading as almost every subject in this forum is about those words.

if you dont use the "hacked" roms, you wont get to use your device's full potential. It took me about 4 1/2 months before i got the balls to hardspl my kaiser and flash a rom on it, i was suprised on what i was missing out.
there are rarely any "normal" updates for the tilt. But keep an eye out in feb, rumored windows 6.1 will hit our devices soon!
Ah ok. I didn't want to do it as I finally got the unit working ok. So I was thinking if I was going to do any updates to it I would stick to the "safer" att update being that all I needed is a att sim to put me back on the network if need.
But if 6.1 comes out wouldn't I want to dload the one that att (if they even would give an update) gives for this phone?

Yeah, normally the manufacterer htc provides the update, then just maybe if att decides to be nice, they provide it for the tilt a few months later. But im pretty sure you can install the version htc provides, seeing as developers here create a "tilt" fix soonafter (when the time comes, let a few people take the bullet and report problems ). So if you want to download it from ATT to be safe, you can. But if you know what you are doing your options expand exponentially. And its not hard to know what you are doing.
If you follow these simple ideas, you normally dont have to worry about hard resetting / returning to manufacturer.
-Most programs wont cause a hard reset / "defect" the device so download away!!
-Becareful with registry edits, and dont edit anything that you dont know what it is. Worst case scenario-> hard reset
-Once you plan on moving on to modifying your kaiser, you must install hardspl. This "might" brick your device, but if you follow instructions its not likely. With hardspl, it basically insures you that you will never brick your device via rom flashes.
-As for red light of deaths those are really random, many speculations and possible ressurections are within these forums, but its really likely you will have to do a RMA.
I'm an AT&T user, so I have a tilt, and I am positive this question has been asked before but I've looked but with no luck, if I put the Kaiser released update for 6.1 will it work without bugs? I've been hearing that it wipes your data, if you do so, and that's fine, I just want to check if it works 100% like normal?
And if so, where is a link to the non-leaked update download, I can only find the leaked one, and is there I program I can get that just backs up my contacts to my computer? I don't care about backing anything else up.
Thank you so much.
I recommend you read the wiki and understand what you need to do so that you can flash safely.
first you must install hard spl because you cannot flash anything but the att rom until you do.
Then you can flash the official htc 6.1 rom--links are in the wiki.
Att has not released an official version of 6.1. The leaked and cooked versions are quite good. Once you have read everything you should try some and find one that works for you.
I am today using the official htc 6.1 rom. But I regularly test other cooked roms. I use my phone for business and need stability and dependability. I really like shogunmark's death rom business edition v 4.1. It fits my needs and I ran it for almost a week. We lost a cell tower in a storm earlier this week and I didn't know it so I went radio and rom searching to try to get my great reception back...alas I still have to go either outside or upstairs to use my phone.
Welcome to the forums but remember always look in the wiki and search. We have a great wiki for the kaiser that is continually updated so you can always start there or look for new posts. That is where you can find new current info.
Welcome and safe flashing.

I think this is constructive answer. It´s not bad to be nice
Got tilt last week.
Kinda scared to unlock with software. paid $10 for unlocking service on ebay. very fast.
I would like to flash the rom with a faster performing one but my main question is do I need jumspl or hardspl if it's unlocked?
Also when exactly do I install the radio?
is the order like this?
jumpspl, hardspl, radio, rom?
I did read the tons of pages, but no offense to anyone but it's not written in a user friendly kinda way. again, no offence.
What's the faster performing roms out there?
I'm also having problems wih my activesync. I got a red exclamation mark on the system tray. I have 3 unresolved items in the window. tried to fix them which are some favorites but need to install outlook. I can't sync anything else besides pics and videos as well. I do have outlook express working so what the heck does it want me to do?
any help appreciated.
You did not.

Oh yeah, and I cannot find a quote but its goes like this:
And dont ever try to ask, which one is the best/fastest ROMs.
saw that one and read, twice.. still doesn't answer questions. After phone is unlocked do I need jumpspl and hardspl? it talks about cid unlock, which i'm assuming i don't need since I unlocked? which still, it isn't written well. I have to say people , especially the seniors have little patience for giving new people guidance. The guide is not written well, and doesn;t answer any question I just asked except the rom question which I still don't why do people get so impulsive about that. It's not a nice way to treat new people IMO.
as well if you ask newbies, I will tell you the information is too spread out and quite unorganized. check this page tell me if you don't htink someone did this after smoking something:

with 40000 links is a newbie supposed to understand with all those links.? I don't think so. I did see the link which shows the whole process and again, doesn't answer the specific questions.

Just for be safe - flash HardSPL.
You can always revert back to original one. Answer how to do it is somewhere in the Kaiser Wiki.
First I'd like to mention that I am grateful for all the developers on XDA working on these phones. I'm no programmer but I know plenty who are in all fields so I can appreciate what you are all doing.
I just wanted to create this thread to see how close we are to getting our hands on the HardSPL for Rhodium and any updates on development.
I've had my Touch Pro 2 for about a week and half now and already bored with it. The phone itself is great, but Windows Mobile 6.1 seriously sucks.
I really want to start using Windows Mobile 6.5, which brings me to why I created this post.
If anyone can shed some light on this I'd appreciate it.

Uhm...I'll open a new thread with step-by-step instructions on how to help them out
Hope it will help them. Gimme about an hour to write a detailed tutorial.
*EDIT* Tutorial is up: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4035499#post4035499
hmm this thread will be good for the usual "hardspl waititing posts".. when release comes, we (olinex) will just create the real hspl thread, so mods will not have to clean up for release (like for topaz they had to).
as to why this flash type checking is so important: on topaz the hynix ones really just got lucky by not getting their mfg partition corrupt. (no one got it corrupt but as i said that was luck) i want to avoid any such problems on rhodium.

?
Does this mean there is a feasible solution for Samsung based units ?
I am surprised that it makes a difference based on the fact HTC wont have made a separate spl for hynix based units. and rom upgrades will contain the same info...
can hard spl for samsungs be realeased with a link to the tutorial on how to ensure you have samsung?
darides tutorial suggests most people seem to have samsung anyway.
infact has ther been a hynix unit seen in the wild?
Cheers

Perhaps Olinex can make a version for samsung that checks on the sspl that the memory is samsung or not. to avoid bricks or other problems.
I have not seen or know anyone with hynix memory on their tp2 after checking about 5 different units from my friends and family they are all samsung. My vodafone one is samsung too.
it's great news for me
is it a problem if everybody have the samsung chipset ?
just letting you know no updates yet - was busy in real life
what is real life ?

Please can we have an ETA for the release of the HardSPL.
Hi Guys,
I can't put into words how much I respect and revere the information posted on your web-site and I apologise for asking the million dollar question. But I need to know.
Can we please have an ETA / timeline for the release of the HardSPL for our HTC Rhodium.
I hate my Vodafone UK branded HTC Touch Pro 2. It is red and so am I with anger. Joking aside I love HTC standard ROM's. The last one I put on my HTC Touch Pro was amazing.
Please, keep up the work....
Kind regards...

If you want to flash the HTC Shipped ROM, look out for the Goldcard methods. I'm not going into detail here because it's off topic and well documented else where. If all else fails cmonex normally helps via PM.

I can totally understand people begging for this. I nervously waiting for it to, but not to install custom ROMs. I'm waiting for it to get blackberry connect running. To achieve that I need to manipulate the device ID in the ROM itself, to fool RIM, let them think it's running on a proper device. But to flash this manipulated ROM I need HSPL (or does someone know a way to manipulate the device ID (HTC-Rhodium) in another way?).
However, asking and begging does not help or make stuff easier or getting it done faster. We all need to be brave and patient and wait a bit and let olipro and cmonex get this stuff done.
Cheers

Sorry to go a bit OT here but I am interested in your info about Blackberry Connect. I have just come to the TP2 from a Storm and one thing that is lagging behind with the TP2 IMO is the push email, would the 'updated' ROM you are proposing allow me to use the pushmail service from BB ?
Thanks,
Neil
