Boring issue in more than one of the presented rom's - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile ROM Development

Hi all,
I have flashed some of the ROM's provided here and am seeing an issue which might not disturb many, but disturbs me.
I am a Dutch guy living in Russia, but not willing to accept either Russian or Dutch as a normal language. For me English is the only acceptable language for a ROM. On the other hand, numbers, currency, date and time are favourite to be "Dutch" again.
If I download a WWE or ENglish ROM (as I downloaded an Energy ROM now) I get the English language, so far so good.
But when I try to install the following format for numbers 1.000.000,00 (same for currency) I am told that the character to divide between full numbers or parts cannot be changed to "," or worse between each three digits I cannot place a ".".
Is there a way to change this in registry, so I can change this anyway, even if the regional setting does not allow this ?
Just to make sure You understand me, if I choose for Dutch regional settings, all looks fine, but Calendar or some programs are immediately "talking" Dutch to me, something I dislike again. Sunday should always be Sunday on computers (even if I do understand Zondag)
Any help would be appreciated.
Ruud

When you change to a non-English regional setting, like Dutch, it automatically changes the names of the months and days (and a few other related things) into the language for that region. That's what you're seeing. You can still keep those in English and get the other settings you want, but the settings have to be entered in manually.
To do this, start with one of the English regions that's closest to what you want. Then, you can change all of the other settings to what you expect. For the command/period problem with long numbers, you have to type in the command and period. They will not be in the drop down. Also, you'll need to adjust the order of month/day/year, etc. to what you expect it to be.
I just tried it on my phone to be sure it would work. For your reference, it should be exactly the same process to do it on your computer running Windows.
Also...
I don't know about anyone else, but I thought it was an interesting question. But that's probably just because I have to deal with localization and internationalization in my regular work.

Hello fenux,
thanks that my boring issue is interesting for somebody
But , this does not seem to solve the issue for me.
I have the Energy Rom at the moment I have chosen the Dutch regional settings, as they are what I need for numbers or at least I can change it to what I need.
As for testing your proposal I change the regional settings to English (United Kingdom) so I would get the Englisch language. I go to "numbers" and try to change the "," to a "." not by using the dropdown menu, but by using the keyboard instead. New character is not accepted. Tried to do the same through the software keyboard, same result.
Actually that was why I asked if I can change such in the registry somewhere.
Any more ideas maybe ?
Regards,
Ruud

I'm not sure why it's not letting you change them. I did find this page (http://www.pcoperative.com/ppc/registry_tweaks.htm#Override Date & Time Format) which includes some of the information on where the override information is stored. But it doesn't include changing the decimal and thousands separator.
Here are the settings for those, taken from my registry after I overrode them:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\nls\overrides]
; Decimal for normal numbers
"SDeci":","
; Digit grouping (thousands) for normal numbers
"SThsn":"."
; And for currency
"SMDcS":","
"SMThS":"."

Hi fenux,
interesting information, I will play around with those. It is visible that some of those strings are not available after chosing a certian regional setting, but I can add them. I will see if I can get to solve my issue with this.
Yes, this looks perfect on first try, thank You VERY much.
regards,
Ruud
Now if You can answer me another question: what is the most stable and fastest ROM around here, I really need it.

I've had good luck with the 21885/Sense 2.1 version of EnergyROM (not as many extras as the other versions, but it's stable and fast). I'm working on my own that fits my needs a little better, but it's nowhere near ready for public use.

Hi fenux,
I am sorry if unclear, but that last sentence was supposed to be more of a joke.
But of course thanks for the answer anyway.
When I downloaded the Energy I made some mistake and took the 28011 instead. When I tried to download the other I was made to understand that there is a time limit, so I did not bother anymore. I like the ROM itself, very nice, but am actually downloading the 21885 at the moment. Reason is that my AlarmMaster 2.0 does not work anymore, as soon as an alarm is supposed to ring, the display is being switched on and the program hangs. The program is too important to me, so I have to change here.
This was my line before editing : I very much like the Action and OK button on the lower part of the screen, so I use the Sense 2,5 version.
But : after a succesfull flash I noticed that actually that ROM does not include the Action and OK buttons below. It also does not have any issue with the regional settings at all. I will continue to install all programs (as I lack time for playing) and hope / presume this ROM to be stable.
Thanks again.

Upgrading the Qtek 9100 to I-Mate AKU2 ROMs

I'm a first-time Windows Mobile owner and I've been mostly enjoying my Qtek 9100 (it was a gift) although I've had some annoyances along the way. I've been trying to work up the courage to upgrade my ROM images to see if I could fix some of the problems, but I wanted to stay with images that were officially released.
Today, I finally took the plunge and upgraded my Qtek 9100 to the new K-JAM images. I figured y'all might like to see how I did it (and how I fared). It's somewhat long -- I like to post thorough, step-by-step write-ups -- so I've not posted the whole thing here. Instead, I put it up on my blog and you can read about it at: http://blogs.3sharp.com/Blog/deving/articles/1261.aspx
I'm happy to answer any questions or answer any feedback you've got.
However, so folks don't think that I'm just trying to drive traffic to my blog, I've attached a copy of the document my Cingular rep sent to me on how to configure my device for the Cingular Blue (formerly AT&T Wireless) GPRS network. I'm finding a lot of folks out there seem to be having trouble finding working settings, so I hope this helps someone else.
However, I have to confess that these steps raise a question for me; they clearly expect you to be able to enter in separate proxy settings both for My ISP and My Work Network. However, on my device I can only enter in proxy settings for My Work Device -- which means I have to configure the connection as my work connection, which means that every time I sync the device I end up overwriting the proxy settings with whatever ActiveSync picks up from the desktop.
Is there some way around this?
Swedish keyboard?
Hello
I just upgraded my Qtek9100 to a i-mate. It works great!
But, is there a way for me to write our swedish special characters on the keyboard? They are printed in blue on up-arrow (A with a ring above), on dot (O with 2 dots above) and page down (A with two dots above). Are there any other way on the Wizard to write special characters?
I can live without being able to press the key where the character is printed, to write it. As long as there is ANY way for me to write them...
Anyone? Thanks in advance!

I *think* you have to have a version of the ROMs that support the proper keymap. Since I'm using English and used an English ROM image, I didn't run into this trouble, so I'm not sure what to tell you.

Some people (including me) have solved it by setting the keyboard locale to norwegian - look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=42871
I have an english hardware keyboard, so I don't know if this will work on yours, but it may be worth a try.

Changing the Locale Setting

Guys,
At first I'd like to thank to all developers releasing us great firmware. I have a question; how can I configure or edit the Locale settings?
I have seen many Locale's on The Dude's edition, I wonder how can it be done?
Thank you in advance,
I would like to know... can we add Locale's? I am using the JF1.5 build and I only see english--- no biggie, I can just add hebrew (although it does remove chinese) by adding the dejavu fonts. I would just like to be able to choose a locale... like the regular folks.
I'm also interested in this
I've sent a PM to TheDude, haven't got a reply yet.

we alredy have a hebrew onscreen keboard, by Hezi Cohen.
Come on ‪iandroid.com...
Just to potentially bring this issue back out there, I am also interested in this. I have spent the last 4-5 hours scouring the internet with google trying to figure out how to add locales to builds, but I have not succeeded. I love the JF build, all that I am missing is Japanese Local as some of the apps look horrible when localized to English and there is no way to force an app to load in a specific language.
I recently started a new thread on this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=535780&highlight=locales
What I have discovered is:
There is an app, called Custom Locales, that allows you to add new locales. You can either compile it from source, or run the emulator and adb pull it out.
I would try it, but eclipse no longer works on my ubuntu box, so I'll have to find another way.
CustomLocale.apk
So I was able to extract the custom locale app from the emulator... here it is:
http://yochai.dyndns.org:8888/android/apps/CustomLocale.apk
hope this helps someone, somehow!

Two separate Q's: Start menu and data monitor

1. I am trying to get Arabic text working on my Xperia, and I found a MoBiDIV 417 file that I installed and it seems to have worked, but now I can't open the start menu. I click it, the phone freezes for 10-15 seconds, and then nothing happens (but I can click other buttons). I suppose I'll have to re-install my rom, but before I do, is there any way to use my computer and change the localization? I'm assuming the localization is the problem because 99% of the text on my phone is now Arabic, and that must be causing an issue with something in the start menu. I want to change the localization away from what I assume is some Middle Eastern area to English - America or English - UK, so that my system is all in English but it can display Arabic when necessary (whereas before it was just a bunch of squares). Normally this is easy to do, but when the start menu won't even open...I did also try using the keyboard start button, just in case, but it gave the same pause-then-nothing result as pressing the upper left corner of the phone.
2. On an unrelated note, I've been trying to find a good data monitor. SPB seems nice but very expensive, what others are there? I found (mFee but it requires Homescreen++ and has a lot of bugs. Anyone help me out?

Any fix for improper display of words while typing

i have been trying all the roms from topix , energy , xannytech, miri, maryone ...but almost 99 % of the roms have the problem as shown in the image.
when i type something in the keypad , some other word gets highlighted and some other word is displayed ....
but once i press spacebar in the keypad the "wgat" from the display changes to "what"
i have tried searching for the fix in google and xda site too.but havent found anything to fix this.
as of now only two roms dont have this problem
RUU_Duttys_HD_WM6.5_Sense_2.1_Holy_Grail_R0 and
Energy.BLACKSTONE.23529.Sense2.1.16.Feb.2010
( i may be wrong here , but i have tried nearly ten roms in the last month.)
i have attached two images . you can see the difference ..( 1st is improper , 2nd is proper )
so is there any fix for this problem...any help would be greatly appreciated...
thanks

Almost all cooked roms comes with T9 enabled, just disable it.
Anyway "what" looks more correct than "wgat" ?
T9 is not much use if you not have the correct language set.
To disable T9, just go to settings tab, Locale & Text,Text Input.
but the problem is that i send lot of messages . so typing with t9 ON feels better..
you had specified about "language set".. i have already selected "english" as the language..
(i havent clearly understood by what you meant by "correct language set")
I have been wondering this too. Previously in was on Dutty's R15 for over a year and with XT9 and spell correction enabled you would always see the suggested word on screen.
Have recently tried all the ROMs on the scene and settled on Topix 3.5.6 and all of them look like the first image, you see exactly what you have typed (wgat) but when you press space it is corrected to the first suggestion (what).
This is not a major deal because in effect the XT9 and spell correction are working. I just find it annoying because i would like to see it corrected on screen as previously on Dutty.
So far as i am aware it has nothing to do with enabling or disabling T9, i wonder if it is simply due to a new IME package for the touch input, i've looked at the registry with no luck yet....perhaps Dutty would know?!
Any suggestions welcome!
still no luck ???
I've noticed that Topix 1.5.6 for the HD2 has this working properly. Tried copying the registry settings and the et9 files but no luck. Still trying!
I dont see what you mean.
This is supposed to happen (the word is auto corrected). if you want what the SIP thinks is wrong to be entered, you click on the word. Maybe the ROMs you are saying work correctly are the ones that show old behaviour or something.
Have you tried changing the value of "AllowChange" to 0 in \HKCU\ControlPanel\Sip?
I.e set "\HKCU\ControlPanel\Sip\AllowChange" = 0
This should prevent the word changing to soemthing else you've not typed.
Let me know if it works for you.
All the best
thank you "oluwaponmile".. i will try it today and let you know..
and "ask768" i am not sure how to explain it to you exactly...when you type small words its ok..but when you start typing bigger words for example " immediate , probably , afternoon, or any word bigger than 4 to 5 alphabets , then it becomes an inconvenience.
anyway will try what "oluwaponmile" has suggested...
oluwaponmile , i tries what you suggested..but a new problem has come now. i am not able to open up keypad.i can see the icon for the keyboard at the bottom but no matter how many times i click it , nothing happens....
this is preventing me from changes the value back to "1" in the registry ...
i have tried everywhere but the keyboard doesnt show up.... soft reset dowsnt help. looks like i have to do hard reset...
I also tried the above registry change witht he same results, keyboard doesnt appear! So no luck there, will keep searching...
@sumedh_vsk - don't hard reset! either use a PC-based resitry editor (such as CE RegEditor) to change the value back or just copy the number '1' from any other file name and paste it in, that shouldnt need the keyboard either!
(double post!)

[Q] Operator text <yyyyy> added

Hi!
I have problems with ROM version 1.69.401.01 - and its descendants (e.g.: Custom ROM by ansar) - that it displays my operator text and than adds five "y"s at the end. If I flash other ROM this is displayed correctly. No update has effect on this.
Real OP name is "T-Mobile H" and it is displayed as "T-Mobile Hyyyyy".
Can anyone give me some info on this? How the name is determined or is there a way to customize it?
Thank you,
Cina.
Same here, got "PLAYyyyyyyyyy" and "ORANGEyyyyyyyy"
Anyone? Must be a stack problem...

No change.
Did you change the right value? The last two should be set to English (United States). Reboot the phone afterwards

My bad. You were right. I've just changed the locale (second option) not the last two. It works. If I change back everything to Hungarian it gives back all my y's. I wonder if it is based on a registry entry or similar...
Thanks anyway,
Cina.
just leave it like this , I couldn´t find any difference between these settings that should have dramatic impact on the phone.
