As the title asks, does anyone know how to (or if it is possible to) set Handcent to store messages on the sd card? Or can anyone tell me where they are currently stored so I may back them up myself when switching ROMs?
Thanks!
Not 100% sure but look under /data/data/com.handcent.nextsms and there's 4 folders under there. The databases folder under there has 3 files. Those MAY be it but like I said, not 100% sure. Worth a shot.
I found this using the Root Explorer app.
PS- I HATE your name.
Thanks for the info!
Why ever would you HATE a name?
This looks like it will do the trick for you: http://www.gadgetsdna.com/how-to-take-backup-on-android-platform/1172/
Hope this helps.
PS. Don't mind your name at all.
Thank You!
That is exactly what I was looking for, only better
Oh, and thanks for not hatin' on me
If it counts for anything, I actually dig the name lmao
This may be the same as what's linked, but I use "SMS Backup and Restore". It doesn't back up MMS messages though (just like it's name alludes to).
Glad to be of service. I was gonna go with the SMS back up until I read your title as I was pressing back on the browser and saw the MMS part too. That's what the edit was for... lol Have a good one.

Is there any program available that could sort of be used as a keylogger? Today a friend took my phone and texted someone but deleted the Sent message then deleted the text from the Deleted Items folder. I know it's too late to find out what he sent but I want something for the future. I also want to know if there is anything that would log general activity of the phone like programs being opened, what was looked at, etc etc.
Thanks.
So you basically want to be nosy and read what text your "friend" sent. You're a good friend. How about some privacy geez. If he deleted it obviously he didn't want you to read it. Don't worry it wasn't a virus..lol...this post is sad.

I'm not necessarily being nosy, I just want to know what HE sent from MY phone. But besides from the text, I still want to know if there is any logging program to monitor what my device does.
Well If you are worried about what he sent from YOUR phone. Don't let anyone use your phone.

You don't always get a choice.
If you are an O2 UK customer (it doesn't say on your profile), there's something called bluebook ( http://bluebook.o2.co.uk ) which keeps copies of every SMS and MMS you send and recieve. I use it to keep copies of stuff in case my phone breaks and I wrote a PHP script that page scrapes so I can do SMS & MMS to web... but I guess you can use it to see what other people send from your phone if it is a persistent problem.
Bluebook is free and was free to sign up if you joined during the beta. It might now cost £5 to sign up if it is out of beta.
If you are not with O2 UK, you might find your service provider has something similar.
Hope that helps.
ok so, i downloaded RSS Reader on my phone a while back, someone msg me on the site and wanted it as well, so its no longer on the market (unless the name changed) and its not in the application list. Its under widgets... i wanna help this person out cause i've been helped out in the past so its only right....any ideas?
If it's a widget then long press on the home screen and select widgets and scrool to see if it's there.
it is there, i still use it, i just don't know how to find it so i can give it to this guy/girl
This thread will be closed for i can see the near future on where this is gonna lead.
If ANYone contributes by his/her words of how to distribute paid apps to the unauthorized owner, well, lets not find out.
Find another site to ask this question, or a different way of asking it.
If the widget is still installed it's still in the app list. Sometimes apps in the apps list aren't listed as "App Name" but instead as com.designer.app.description. If the app hasn't gone paid the developer may have pulled it for some other reason. You may be able to find some info about said app, find other apps on the market by said developer and have your friend contact the dev to request a copy. If the app has gone paid and is listed on the market as such and you and your friend really like it well then it's probably worth the $0.99 or w/e their now asking.
As for getting it from your phone to your friends I fear the wrath of Mikey1022 and therfore have conviently forgotten how it's done A little searching should provide you with the know how...
lol its all good, i don't even know the person that msg me, but i figured since i come on here and people have helped me wether directly or indirectly i wanted to help someone out too... but w/e the app was free by the way but .... your the MOD
I'm pretty sure its okay if I write this...
Do this in terminal:
cp /data/app/* /sdcard/App
take all your apps from your phone + put it onto your sd. Find the widget and since its free give it to the guy/girl. Mikey don't kill me.

I just when from Vanilla to SuperD newest version today.
Formerly when I received new email my phone would make no sound, only vibrate. Now I no longer seem to have that option, from what I can tell.
Any advice on this one?
What do you mean? On EMail or GMail? Did you check the Settings? Details plz?
Yeah... seems like a lot apks in android have their own settings and don't play nice with default settings. Go into an app (either Gmail or Email, whichever one gives you trouble), go into settings of that app and adjust as you please.
Good luck.
I only recently discovered this too. As said above you need to go into setting individually. You can do it for SMS/MMS too and set different tones for them.
thanks, i'm some sort of moron for not figuring this out on my own. doh.

Solved?
Report the thread to a mod so that it can be closed (red triangle next to #1) and maybe go edit, advanced and edit the title so that it says "SOLVED" or "FIXED" so that everyone knows.
Thanks!
hi im new on nexus one i search in forum no luck or maybe separate post, i came from windows mobile its a new world here i got my n1 yesterday i live in mexico but i have some questions about software, im using stock i didint root it yet
i already use the market to install some but here we go:
1. its any dialer good?, this dialer its not good as phonex in windows mobile its any on market like this?free will be nice
2. what applications YOU MUST have on N1?for example i install msn ut seems there is a lot of this wich its better, or the MUST have apps.
3. its anyway to get google maps navigation working outside of USA? or something?and maps offline?
4. any pim backup software ?to backup contacts and messages?
i read in several post about titanium backup but seems i need rooted N1.
and last how i can change the SMS tones?and any way to change trackball notification colors?i read one but seems i need a rooted one :C
i will wait one week or something to see if all works well before root =) thanks a lot
Most, if not all of your questions could be answered by some searching. Thus I'll be really short. If you google "must have applications nexus one", you'll get everything you need.
1. Dialer One.
2. Fring.
3. No. Buy GPS navigation software.
4. SMS Backup for messages, and for contacts - did you understand the concept of Android, keeping the contacts in the cloud?
5. SMS Popup for SMS tones.

Your contacts, calendar, picasa photos, and gmail are all automatically synced with Google's servers over the air. You don't need to back any of that up.

incorrect.
ASTRO File Manager looks similar to Resco Explorer. It's free for now, but they may decide to charge for it later.

Well, it was a short version, yes?
Navigation works properly in some countries, not only in US. Not around the globe. AFAIK, it's currently functional w/o hacks only in US and UK.
Brut hack can be installed to make it work, but it's not guaranteed to work properly.

I installed GoSMS just for that. When someone sends me a picture I want to save, I go open the message in GoSMS and save it there. It's not elegant (or even logical), but it works.

Just take any MP3 you want and drop it in the Ringtones folder. Also, check out Zedge. Tons of ringtones for free from there, and a great selection of good stuff.
