Swype isn't the best when you're at the bar - Captivate Themes and Apps

Swype works amazingly
I love it
But when I was at the bar last night I realized its limitation
Not only is it hard to think hard enough too swype when you're buzzed, but holding a cold beet mug really adds viscosity to your fingers and scrolling across the screen really gets tough. I had too resort to touch typing...it was torture

Drinking beets may be the bigger problem here
Maybe coat your screen with a little vaseline before going to the bar? A few beers in you won't notice the blurriness, and you'll be rewarded with super-slick swyping.
My only gripe with swype is the lack of the voice-to-text button. Combine the two, and I might never have to type on a phone again.

I have to agree w/ OP. Just left Yucatan Taco Stand and after 3 margaritas its hard to show off swype. Voice recognized my slurred speech. Now off to more testing at gingermans over pints off dar beer. Good, I hope my dogs don't poop in the house!

Stop being such light weights!
Or, here is a novel idea, Drink and don't text at the bar!
I've noticed when my fingers are wet it causes issues with the touch screen, but that is a given. That is why we keep wet things away from our phones.

It takes about 1/2 a second to change the input method...problem solved

Haha. Sounds like my night lastnight... Beer fingers while getting bounced around on a Delta flight into Atlanta. Not fun, but the captivate was getting a few peaks from my fellow passengers.

[Q] App sensitivity and finger temp.

I'm a bit cold blooded and have noticed when my index finger is dry/cold I have trouble opening up an app and often times when I try to delete an app from desktop and push on it to delete it opens up the app instead of highlighting so I can move it. Usually rebooting will work. I've also noticed if I warm up my hands or rub my hands together it also works. Gets to be a pain in the *** any suggestions besides a finger transplant
Suggestions
move someplace warmer.
put lotion on so your fingers don't get dry.
put hands in pockets.
thumb wars to get the blood flowing.
gain weight... i know for me, having low body fat seems to allow my hands to get cold at times. More so than my "larger" friends

[Q] Eggs; Yoak or Whites?

So what do you preffer The yoak or the Whites lol
Whats one without the other??...........
Gotta be fried, in a sandwich with as much meat as can be possibly squeezed between two slices of thick as hell white bread.........
Poached is good too
I really cant see any reason to seperate the two though
Unless your making meringues.... nobody likes a yolky pavlova
Now Im hungry for sandwiches and pavlova maybe even a pavlova sandwich
I get them sunny and eat the whites (sounds racist) and then plop the "YOLKS" (yes that would be the proper spelling) right on top of my hash browns. mmmmmm........
good day.

Growing up with chickens I am ashamed to say that I like my eggs fried, but the yolks to be solid. I dont like them burned, just solid. Just past over medium. So I can eat them without having to dip anything in them. But if I go out and they end up coming runny, I also put them over my hashbrowns
Only a fool does not appreciate the full egg.
Full egg, 3 jumbo over easy, with some toast. Perfect.
BTW Brinner is the best.
I had to google for the meaning of yoak and white...
Why would anyone separate that? Unless you are baking a cake or something...
I don't know correct translation for the way I eat them, but I think it's like this:

Yummy! She says salivating! That is naughty! Whole egg of course! With a pinch of salt. Poached, fried, scrambled with cream, ....nice!
has to be the whites.. you not only get protein (average of 6.6g per egg) but also anti cholesterol agents!
laterz..
Ok ok. So we have this bread right, it's not long but it isn't tiny. It's like a done shape, but its kinda long and we call it samoona, but I don't know what it's called in English. Anywho, you cook the eggs like a normal person, and you take a piece of samon (singular samoona) and you shatter the yolk with it and dip it in, and then you take some of the white with it, so litterally a bite sized sandwich, and ch'yeah. YUMMY!

One hand or two when playing with it?

What's everyone's usual method? Do you mainly use landscape or portrait mode when playing with your phone?

I have, however, asked many ladies to hold my device for me. They say it has good heft and girth, no flimsyness in the body, just a good solid feel to it. Not too big, not too small either apparently! Quite often they simply refuse to unhand it until they are finished playing.
Yeah, i love my Nexus One

Switftkey Beta X

My goodness, has anyone used this yet? This is the most impressive keyboard I've ever experienced. After tinkering around with the settings and allowing it to "learn" my typing style, I have never made a typo, and I type fast.
Anyone who remembers me from the past will know I'm very critical of the Android stock keyboard (and of alternative keyboards too, including Swiftkey) and that the typing experience has been a real thorn to my Android experience.
All that is gone. Anyone else using Swiftkey X? The improvements are astronomical.
Swiftkey X is outstanding, been using it since it was free.

Words cannot describe how amazing this keyboard is. I downloaded the trial version today and will most definitely buy the full version.
The first thing I do with keyboards is type like a madman just to see how many mistakes I would make and to my huge surprise, Swiftkey made no mistakes whatsoever.
The only downside is the lack of themes, but then again, I'm using the free trial version so I hope the full version will have more to choose from.
Yea I definitely love SwiftKey, I too have been using it for a long time.
If anyone is interested here are some themes for it. Idk if they work on the most recent update but they work on the 2.0.5.153 version

The only quibble I have seen so far with Swift Key X is that... for whatever reason, it seems to inadvertently register the space bar twice sometimes, resulting in unwanted periods.
So an example sentence would look something like this: "Hey John how's it. Going?" When it should look like "Hey John how's it going?"
Is this happening to anyone else using the keyboard? I have my space bar settings as Spacebar Will Always Complete Word, and I have the Quick "." turned on.
Lol I remember you and your constant keyboard woes. I tried SwiftKey a few weeks ago but had a lot of issues including the double space thing. But after reading your rave reviews I just tried it again. God DAMN its massively better. I'm going to switch back to it full time now. Thanks for the heads up!

I could have sworn you said you tried swiftkey back then too, but I guess not this latest version. Anyway, I'm glad you've found a acceptable keyboard solution.
yup swiftkey is really the best thing ever. the only thing still missing is the ability to learn from whatsapp typing patterns, but i think they also seem to have the best word correction, so prediction is less of an issue.

Yup I get that too, plus a lot of accidental caps. I think its just a learning curve issue since I've been using the stock android one for so long my fingers keep hitting places they shouldn't.

Strange. After I changed the Typing Style setting to "Precise" instead of "Rapid" which I thought would serve my faster typing style best, the inadvertent periods in the middle of sentences have occurred less. Though it's still popping up. It's becoming quite problematic. I'm getting sentences that look like this: "Hey I'm. On my. Way. To. You now." I kid you not, it gets that bad sometimes.
=T
Ya its rather frustrating. Also, I'm rather unimpressed by the selection of skins. I have a blue theme on my phone that doesn't really match the bright neon blue nor does it fit with the neon green and I don't like how plain the HTC IME skin is...

Yeah, agreed. The lack of skins is disappointing. Frankly, all three skins are hideous. I'm using the classic white one for now.
Anyway, I've started a thread over at the Swiftkey Beta X forums: http://vip.swiftkey.net/index.php?/forum/88-discussion-phone-x/
You can't miss it. It's titled "Inadvertent Periods in Middle of Sentences." Chime in if any of y'all are experiencing this odd glitch too.
It's becoming more and more common. Like every other sentence will have inadvertent periods. Frustrating, and sad after I finally found a keyboard that could keep up with my thumbing speed. :[
The only solution now is to turn off Quick "." but that is not ideal. Hitting the period button to add a period at the end of sentences is awfully cumbersome. CORRECTION: It seems even after turning off Quick "." the inadvertent periods still happen. It's incredibly baffling!
So one person suggested that I'm hitting the period button when typing fast instead of the spacebar. This is may be the culprit! >__<
However, I'm still experiencing some odd double letter glitches, and it seems people over at the Swiftkey Beta X forum are as well. It's already a reported bug. This double-letter glitch seems to really plague a lot of Android keyboards; I wonder why. =T
Haha that's what I was implying but I suppose I should have been more clear. It's an adjustment to such a short space bar.

Cool swipe feature

All of you know about the swipe feature in the built in keyboard but what I did not know is that you could actually swipe with two fingers at once. You can continue words you made with one finger with another as you see the two blue lines in the picture below. Idk if everyone knows about this but I just figured it out and it blew my mind lol. It is super fast once you master it and makes texting blazingly fast. The picture below shows the word hell showing up but it did get it correct and got the world hello I just took the screenshot too early. Happy swiping!

youtube a demo! wow google is so great at this stuff but so ****ty on the business side...
ok its a little weird at first, but say you need to type the word "awesome"
swipe a-w-e-s with you left thumb, and then keep your thumb on the screen but sitting at 's'
then with your right thumb, swipe from o-m, keep thumb on the screen
then with your left thumb move it up from where it was sitting at 's' up to 'e'.
'awesome' should then pop up as the suggested word if you did it correctly, then thumbs off screen to accept the word.
confusing ... but try it.
---------- Post added at 12:45 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:41 AM ----------
heres an easier one (to start)
"plus"
right thumb swipe p-l-u, keep thumb on screen.
left thumb tap s and "plus" should come up
lift thumbs to accept
as long as you have a finger on the keyboard, you can continue to swipe/tap to change the word combination to what you need.
I'm definitely going to have to youtube a few examples to really good a good idea of doing this. Reading it in text is pretty self-explanatory, but I think there's something to be said about seeing it live. Anyone have any good example videos they recommend?
This also makes me realize I would be happy with a "Typing Game" that we all probably played in when we were little. To help practice with this new way of typing.
try 'plastic'
swipe pl
swipe as
tap t
swipe ic
hahaha
Thats so cool
Awesome, thanks for sharing this.. probably would have never found it on my own!
Very cool indeed!
Nice find! Just tried it myself. This is insane.
Thanx for the tip, it would've taken me months to bump into this.
I love swype (pre 4.2) because it was the fastest way to type with one hand and one finger. And I just got used to using it that way even when I can spare another hand and finger, but now my left hand might get back in on the action
Wow. My brain isn't capable of processing this fast enough apparently to make this a viable entry method, but that really is a cool find for those of you who can make it work properly for you.
So far I've found that just the regular swiping works really well for my needs. I end up going back to my iPad mini wishing it had the same capability and typing on the iPhone just feels antiquated now after getting used to swiping. Surprisingly though I never found myself using it on the Nexus 7. This two thumb method might make more sense on the tablet though!
