Can someone pull the current version of the mail app and post? I want to see if there are any differences. I cannot pull html emails on the EVO, but someone in my office using the Droid X CAN pull emails with html using the exact same server and information that I use.
Thanks!
edit * if anyone with root wants to do this for me, I would appreciate it. If you are unsure how do the following commands within Windows:
c:\adb remount
c:\adb pull /system/app/mail.apk c:\dir\
The file copy will be placed in the c:\dir
Id like to know if the HTC SenseUI email app can be run on an Droid X?
the email app is better IMO to the Droid X email app.
I know the stock android email app has been pulled and can be installed ontop of the UI' the manufacturers make, but I like the HTC app the best.
Just so you know, adv remount does not work on the droid x yet

OK guys here is the Galaxy Tab Email App. It has a sweet new look and has the dual pane in landscape mode. I have been using it on my Epic today and it is sweet! The font is a bit small but its obviously meant to be seen on a larger screen. Just push the Email.apk to /system/app and then reboot your phone. Make a backup of your current email app in case you want to use the original email app instead! This is for Froyo only!!!!
Enjoy :~)
TIP: I use Root Explorer to do all this work, it is the best couple of bucks i have spent. I have not connected any of my Android phones to my Mac for 6 months to push, copy, backup, etc! I highly recommend it!
TIP: Here is a new tip for you guys that are having connection errors with Exchange accounts! It is a bug that we hope that google can fix it sometime soon!

This is ONLY for Froyo ROMs...
well that explains it. would be nice of the op to mention that.
maybe throw it in a [FROYO] in the title?
Thanks though. Will try next time I flash a 2.2

Are you serious? The Galaxy Tab only comes with Froyo but I thought that would be obvious! I will mention it then!

ive got nothing against osx, i really think its fun to use and very intuitive, im just against the locked down last gen hardware. if i were just going to dual boot linux and use it for the most part, id just do so on a pc. it just blows me away that they are getting 1500 dollars for the same thing you could build yourself for a few hundred.
you know what they say...
a fool and his money are soon parted.
I've been trying to load my yahoo account and it keep saying incorrect username or password. Been trying it all day, I'm on the Quantum ROM. I believe Its the same thing. But I know I'm putting the correct information, Was just wondering if you knew why it was doing this?
couldn't you just install the email.apk and have access to both this new email app and whatever other one your phone came with?? that would make things easier so if you didn't like this one you could just uninstall it!!

It tells you there's an email.apk already.
Anyways, I went into terminal, typed su
Cp /system/app/Email.apk /sdcard/
Remount rw
Rm /system/app/Email.apk
Cp /sdcard/download/Email.apk /system/app
And it works flawlessly and loving the multiple delete option

I keep getting a cannot conbnect to server error. It definitely syncs contacts and calendar, but emails don't come through. Anyone have this issue or know of a workaround. Its only with exchange because I test a Gmail account and a hotmail account and the emails definitely come through. Any thoughts or help are greatly appreciated.
FYI running latest Viper ROM and have tested on all other Froyo ROMs with the same results.

You mean you can delete multiple emails at once? How did you do this? I can select multiple but not able to delete them since option is not visible...

i would suggest not using this, the epics screen isnt big enough too view all the options, it cuts the bottom off and even if you go all the way down it still doesnt show.

The only option that gets cut off as far as I know is a refresh button on the bottom which I never use.

I never figured out how to get the multiple delete to work. The new stock email app in froyo has multiple delete now so I have gone back to that for my yahoo mail. Still a nice discovery though.

I'm looking for a really good email app that has true HTML and allows pinch zooming while view an email. It also needs to have smooth scrolling while viewing an email.
Any suggestions?

I did not see a Xoom there, but a Galaxy tab email apk. It looks great but I get a network error when it tries to download recent emails.
I personally like Enhanced EMail. I use it for work (Exchange 2007 Server w/Activesync) and a Yahoo account on a normal basis. It works pretty well. I also like the fact that It uses the native calendar and contacts list in the OS and doesn't have to install its own apps to provided that functionality. It cost me 10$, but it was half the price of the bloatware they call Touchdown and works better.
Check your pm.... ozone

I'm really interested in the Xoom email app too. Can someone send me the apk file for it?

So I had my bionic in my car mount and received a text message. The phone then preceded to read it to me.
I haven't seen this anywhere but is there a way to gain this functionality when walking around?

Settings text to speech and accessibility should help and handcent sms allows only text message readout on the press of a button if memory serves
I kind of wish I could disable this feature.

I can imagine....
I went through the settings and there isn't anything there to configure when its available.
The Casio G-Zone Commando has a "read out" app that will read any unread messages when you press the app icon. I have looked for the app but can't find it. If I'm able to find a Commando ROM ans extract the apk, do you thing it would work? Hmm, I guess I know my evening.
I have never liked things like handsent or third party apps that do what I already have a core app to do. It just seems like bloat
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium
I agree but they work well as a temp fix until you find the solution
I think this would be a pretty cool thing if I could get it to work.
It didn't take me long to find a commando system dump, but a couple of hours later I am no closer to finding the apk.
I would GREATLY appreciate any help. On the commando there is an app called "read out" and it has the same icon as the text messaging app. If you touch the icon it will read your unread messages to you.
I figure (total guess) that it is interfacing with the picotts.apk like the bionic does in car mode. The bionic has the picotts.apk already, so I want to try installing the read out thing to see of it works.
Does anyone know what the read out apk is named? Or if this would work?

Give me a link to what you are working with and I will take a look, but I am no dev so no promises

I saw there were a couple of apps, what I liked about this was it's almost more of a widget. Nothing opens you touch it and it reads. The down side to an app is if I have to open an app to use it I might at well read the message myself.
I appreciate the help. I know I probably sound like an idiot
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium
So I was able to check out a Commando and the "read out" is a 1x1 widget, not an app. The commando is the only phone I have seen this on.
Is there a chance that the pico apk is different on the commando and has that widget? If so can I install that version and have it work?
I like the widget because I don't want every message read out. I don't see the point in a seperate messaging app, because I could just open and read the message. But the widget I could find useful if I'm on Bluetooth or busy with something and don't want to stop and read. Just tap the screen and continue doing what I'm doing!

Sucks. Any devs got some free time, and want to work on something a little unique?
So you think that's it, its a different Pico apk?

Check out VLingo in the Market. It has a setting that will read your SMS messages for you. There is even a handy widget to turn it on and off.
I like Car Dock Home v3 for full customizing and use Tasker for everything. It would be trivial to create a task that says to read an incoming text out loud based on docking status or location or time or whatever, and even automatically respond.
Need some help.
Just recently got issued a Droid Bionic by my IT staff and was given instructions on how to set up corporate sync, however it appears that the version of activesync on the phone and the one on the server don't match.
Is there a way to downgrade the activesynce version on the phone?
just get a third party like enhanced email or maildroid i get my work email through there all the time you just need your server numbers etc.. and it works fine..
I recommend enhanced email. Its awesome and the reason I like it alot is because it reads html formatted stuff which I need. Totally worth it....

I've tried 20 apps and I don't really like most of them.
What are ppl using?
I honestly liked the old 4.1 stock app and want something similar.
I want manual sync, but I want the app to auto sync upon opening, which surprisingly none of them do. I know u just have to pull down to sync, but hey, one less step, is one less step.
I also am having trouble finding an app where u can easily delete from the app. I think I'm deleting emails throughout the day, only to find them all still there when I go to hotmail on my computer.
When I hit delete, I want it to delete, not go to trash so I have to open an entirely different folder and delete that for it to really be gone.
I'm just going to keep trying them, but if you guys have any suggestions, I'd appreciate it.

I use OWA Webmail app. As my employer has prevented me configuring mail apps for our exchange server. This one works though!
try this Email Mail Exchange @Blue
Have you tried Mailbox by Dropbox? I've been using Inbox by Google since it came out. I like the idea but it can get confusing at times. Gonna give Mailbox a try since it comes highly recommended.
Aquamail
I'm actually using Lollipop Gmail, considering it now supports other mail accounts natively.
Of course, it doesn't have any fancy features... But I enjoy it. It works well.
