Reviewish: Technocel Protective Cover (bought from sprint) - EVO Shift 4G Accessories

I bought this here case from the Sprint store today.
Price: 19.95
Colors available: black blue and red (may vary)
Brand: TECHNOCEL
-Does it make it stiffer to slide?
-Yes, noticeably stiffer.
-Did you have to pry the upper and lower halfs apart to make case snap in?
-No, but it was so tight that it imediately started rubbing part of the case off (see pictures). I removed the lower part and sanded down the corner clip that fits between the screen and body to make it rub less.
-What texture is it?
-Soft touch? haha I dunno similar to the shift's exterior, maybe a little slicker.
-Are the screen and camera now recessed so they don't make contact with surfaces when laid flat on them?
-yes both are slightly recessed within the case.
any other questions just ask.

Wow that thing really scrapes. Did it rub off that red in the last picture already, just from what I'd assume is only a few slides? My case, the one with the holster that was reviewed here also, makes it tight, but I haven't noticed it come even close to scraping like that. I know that from having other sliders that the rubbing like that is common, but not that soon. At least we can say that the slider is solid and not a wibbly wobbly piece of crap, lol.

Wow - I'd be pissed if it did that to my phone and bring the case back. I do think that in the first picture it sort of resembles the HTC Merge (unreleased phone for Verizon)

I opened and closed it a couple times and the scraping was obvious so I sanded down the corners so it fits better now. I cleaned the marks off the phone and since sanding they have not come back.

A little red fingernail polish will fix that right up.

You are very wise my friend. I may have to speak to my fiance about that later.
I also just noticed that the top case is leaving a little red on the side, raisedup area of the keyboard. I guess a little more shaving is in order...

How does the back look?

looks like the sedio, but with one large open area for the camera/speaker/flash instead of each having it's own opening.
The attached is of course the seidio reviewed in the other thread.

FYI corporate Sprint stores do not carry this case only third party retailers would sell this incase someone was interested...

Good info, thanks for adding it. I don't know the difference, because we don't have a corporate store here. But the case was in sprint branded packaging. I just looked on the back and it said it was made by those people.

Yeah the corporate stores only carry three cases for the evo shift, and one leather case made by htc, the pink/white, and the blue/black htc cases, and the black amzer carbon fiber case with holster.

What I would recommend the next time you go into a store with a "Sprint" sign on the outside of their building is to ask if they work directly for Sprint or if they are a premier retailer, third party or authorized agent of Sprint. If they have to call Sprint Customer Care on your behalf regarding your wireless account and don't have direct access to it, they are not a Sprint corporate employee. If the employee's e mail address domain is not sprint.com, he/she is not a Sprint corporate employee. If iRMS, RSP, RTA and/or MyMetrics has the employee giving you the deer in the headlight look, he/she is not a Sprint corporate Employee. Our ARD is JH, DM is JC and SOM is DH. All Sprint corporate Sprint employees are able to follow that. LOL!

well I did learn one thing from that... I am not a corporate sprint employee. Haha because I have no idea what you just said.

I have the same case in black and no rubbing..actually I like mine alot

Blue and black case from Sprint store.

I bought one of these and after a week and a half the little clips that hold the front piece on broke. Has anyone else had this problem? If so raw there any problem taking back? I sent my receipt in to get my rebate.

Even though you don't have your receipt you still should be able to go to the sprint store and have it replaced it.
When I got my Black case from the sprint store the guy told me that He also had a note in my acct. that I was entitled to have a free replacement if anything was wrong with it within a year.
Just got outta the Sprint store and got the black case. Fits tighter than the other one and just had to pay the difference. Plus this one comes with the belt clip.

If it's the HTC branded case, I'm rather shocked you broke it.
I've had mine on and off a few times and that bad boy is really tight. Actually, thinking about it, it may be because it was on so tight you had a hard time removing it and broke it.
You shouldn't have any trouble getting the case swapped out. It's a much better fitting case than the Seidio/Platinum version of the same thing and a good side effect, if you can get the Seidio belt clip it works just fine with this case.
The case was really tight. I knew that goin into it. And I only took it off once and was extremely careful when removing it. Even made a custom tool to get between the phone and the case. Shimmed it on either side of the clips so I wasn't putting any stress on em. Might of just been a bad cover. Got the black one with the faux cabin fiber on the back. Works awesome. Plus it makes the keyboard really stiff and since I use the on-screen keyboard I don't have to worry about the keyboard sliding out on me.

I cant even get the top portion of the blue htc case off its on so tight! anyone have this problem?? lol
That's why I made a little shim to stick between the case and the phone. Way too hard to get apart.

Is this something you left there full time or something more like a once used tool? If you left this there it may have caused just enough stress on the already too tight cover and caused your breakage.
This case was designed to go on, stay on FOREVER. hahahaha
I've only taken the front piece off 2x. Once to put on a screen protector then a week later to remove said crappy feeling screen protector. Other than that, the front piece stays on all the time.
It was just a one time use tool. Had to take the case off to change screen protectors. I made out of 24 gauge steel which is less than .04" thick. The case broke while trying to get it off a second time without the tool when my phone froze and had to pull the battery.

The only OEM accessory specifically designed for the HTC EVO Shift 4G and sold in Sprint corporate retail stores is the leather case. The black 3 piece carbon fiber and plastic cover/holster as well as the 2 piece black/blue and pink/white covers are manufactured by two different third party vendors.
going on 3 1/2 weeks and the case still fits snug
I bought the black/blue case from the Sprint store and mine also broke! The case was SO tight that when I tried replacing the case the corner clip broke off just like the OP! I bought a simple black replacement case on ebay for $5 and its snug as a bug, and comes off easily in case I need to access the battery compartment.
i have the blue black htc branded case i got mine at radioshack for 20 bucks after my foursquare mayors 20% discount and i have to say its perfect now if i could just find a leather case to fit over it
How did you get a foursquare discount?
Is this the case with the texturized back with the HTC logo near the bottom?
If so - it's been holding up fine for me over the past month, even survived a couple of drops to the ground from waste-high.
I have noticed that the slider has become slightly loose - like, it has maybe a millimeter of play in it now. Not sure if that's the because of the case, or because I dropped the phone on the ground twice in the past month.

Otterbox Defender Vivid/Raider long term wear report

Lasted me just abt six months of light regular use. It's still on this phone as i write and its protective capability is still almost all intact, but the plastic and silicone are both breaking down: Replacement time.
The plastic of both the inner case and the protective belt clip is somewhat brittle. The retaining tab on the belt clip that holds the phone in, snapped off after less than a month rendering the belt clip useless, as it wouldn't hold the phone anymore. The little snaps that clip the inner case halves together are beginning to go; two of them broke in the last couple weeks.
These both look to me like design issues where the characteristics of the material used weren't accounted for as well as they might've been.
The silicone is tearing in a couple places, around the volume button and one of the plastic nubbins that the belt clip tab clicks into. This last tear is progressing out to the edge of the case, another 3mm or so to go.
i liked this case; phone felt really safe with it. i liked the really tall lip around the screen that made the phone super-easy to hold, even as it made typing a bit of a challenge with the "keys" at the edge of the screen. This is a big plus as this isn't the easiest of phones to keep a safe grip on while using it.
The built-in screen protector isn't so hot as it let dirt get in at the top between it and the screen, and also doesn't contact the screen at one bottom corner so one has to press down with disproportionate effort there to get the touch to register. It's where the keypad is so slows down typing.
Overall i'm glad it's on the phone. It's big and heavy and clunky and keeps the device well protected from harm and easy to hold on to. It's also one of the costliest cases and i was hoping it'd last me at least a year: i'm a fairly careful guy too, don't beat mercilessly on my gadgets or anything.
Think i'll try the Ballistics SG case next.

-- This tall lip is a part of the polycarbonate hard inner case and the screen protector is glued to it at the bottom. Makes for a very secure thumb hold and i expect will be one of the features of this case i'll miss.

no worrys did not take it that way i went to sleep and didnt see your post go to their webpage and click on contact and email your problem they will email you back asking for a pic of the case showing the damage with the otter box symbol visable also with a piece of paper with your name address and the date this is to prove ownership and they will send a replacement also if you got it at the att store they will replace it for free up to a year
Note that only some AT&T stores will. It's manager discretion and some will be more agreeable to it than others.
Otterbox breaking clips
I have had the same problem with with my Otterbox box case, the small clipe that hold the plastic case close keeps breaking after i have to open it up to clean my screen on my HTC vivid. Because the top is open, I'm cleaning my screen a lot.
just contact the supplier through their site and tell them what happen, and they will send you a new case for free. I'm on my second case now. it seems that they know there is a problem with those fragile snaps.

Mine lasted over a year, and that's with frequently pulling it apart to pull the battery. Now half of the plastic clips that hold it together are gone, and the rubber flap for the USB port is starting to tear, almost ripping off. If you pay attention when taking it apart, it should last way longer than a year. My only gripe is its a bit bulky, not very pocket friendly.

I'm on my 2nd Replacement case as I have broke 2 belt clips within 2 months. Otterbox has been excellent about sending a replacement in both instances. I also removed the built in screen protector and have purchased a different one from Amazon. Overall the case has been decent. Happy with it for the most part. I still am using the actual case from the original but now a couple of the tabs have broken off the polycarbonate shell. Guess I will have to switch out for one of the replacements they have sent me. Unfortunately the belt clip seems to have been the most fragile part for my experience.
Wow i haven't used my otterbox defender, cause one of the clips, of the inside broke, the screen protector is almost gone (its broking) and the outer layer of silicone doesn't like, glue? Stick to the hard case!! I'm going to contact otterbox and see what they said! Thanks guys!!

My little tabs that snap the plastic case together are starting to bite the dust. This may seem like a dumb question, but when inquiring for a replacement do they require a receipt? I bought the case off of craigslist.

No receipt required. The photo with the case and your name and today's date is all the proof of ownership they need. I finally sent my info in last night, got the reply email, emailed the photos and today got the email with the Order Confirmation. The only odd thing is that I put in my PO Box as my address, but the order PDF says it's shipping via FedEx. I wonder how it will work out.

Back Cover White Replacement?

Does anyone know where I could get a white back cover like the ones they had on the I/O Nexus 7 Devices? Off eBay or Amazon or wherever.
I'm looking for a replacement of the entire back cover, not something to go over it.
Thanks!
Doubt you'll see many third party rear covers, since the stock cover has all the wireless antennas mounted to it.

Nothing is attached to the back cover and it's not particularly complex. I popped mine off with a credit card - it's just a plastic cover, nothing special. Still, I suspect that the market for replacements would be pretty small, but who knows?

You didn't look very hard... it has at least the NFC antenna in it and if I recall other antenna connections as well. Look for the connectors that connect it to the back of the device.
Good lord, I'm a dumbass. You're right. But it doesn't seem like too much of a stretch to duplicate the antenna placements. I suspect, though, that there just wouldn't be enough demand.
It's like anything else, replacement parts are a narrow and usually expensive market. A replacement cover with the antennas would probably run double the coat of a regular replacement back. And that's once dealers get a demand big enough to warrant making them at all. -Ara

I'd love to get it to match my white HTC One X on AT&T but I guess not
thanks anyway!
One option would be to "Paint" the cover. With the correct paint types, it should be easy to do... I've no clue what those proper paint types would be, but it would need to be something that covers well, stays on and doesn't impair the use of all the antennas.
My daughter who makes toys might know. I'll ask her tonight.
Use a vinyl paint such as duplicolor or sem. That's how I painted my gnex and how I plan on painting the n7

I dont see why this would be such an impossible idea.

Skin your Pebble

Found a place with Pebble Skins, ordered one yesterday. Hoping to have it by end of week and will post pics once I have it on.
There are actually a couple of different vendors, here is the one I went with: http://www.slickwraps.com/Pebble-Watch-Wraps-Skins-s/537.htm
Recommended with reservations
UPDATE 7/23: So after working with Pauline at Slickwraps here is the deal. She was great in terms of doing what she could to make sure I was satisfied with the company and their service. I will say they have this part of the operation down once you connect with them. I did have some issues getting connected, but once I did she did an excellent job with follow-up and taking care of things.
After the debacle with the first wrap sent out, she sent me a replacement wrap which camed yesterday. A couple of notes on this. The wrap itself comes with a lot of extra pieces on the paper beyond what is needed for the buttons and Pebble. Confusing at first, but not that big a deal. The video that they provide is an excellent guide and I would also recommend highly watching it a couple of times.
Installing this one went very well, but one thing to be very careful about, the bottom border is slightly wider than the top border of the Pebble, and the Slickwrap does not mark the top or bottom. Maybe an arrow, or T and B on the mount paper would make this more intuitive.
Overall, pretty happy with how it turned out. I think it looks good, and I can see that for the customization of the Pebble it is a great idea. With my different band and face now I know my watch probably looks nothing like what anyone else around me might be wearing.
For the price, a good deal. Just make sure that you take your time, and follow the install directions, and if you are anal about alignment, you will probably find it tedious, but there is a good result in the end.
Good to hear that. Hoping to get my pebble from bestbuy soon.

Thanks, i'm very happy with it! They shipped my wrap with 2 screen protectors. I've had no issues with neither the wrap nor the screen protector. They're both staying put.
Somewhere I saw where someone who had a "skin" on their Pebble pulled it off only to find that the adhesive bonded to the anti-scratch coating on the Pebble's face and started pulling it off. Not sure whether it was on this forum or some other. It made me think twice about putting some skin or guard on the Pebble if it did this to it. It came off in patches and made the watch really ugly unless you scraped the rest of the coating off.
Worried about the finish on my just delivered white Pebble - but not if the protection itself ends up causing more damage!

2). Where did you see the video? I only see, from their website, iPhone installation video.
EXTRA: also, is this a sticker or something that requires water solution like Zagg screen protector?
Can anyone elaborate a bit on the issue described above about glue affecting the protecting layer of the screen? Thanks.

1. The first one apparently was early in their process for making them and there were some quality control issues in the cutting lines and sizing. They have this issue resolved.
2. If you go to http://www.slickwraps.com/Articles.asp?ID=240 and look about the middle of the page there is a video specifically for the Pebble
It is a sticker, so no water needed. Just make sure you really clean your watch first.

In need of a bullet proof LG G4 case

Hello,
I am currently employed as a top secret spy. I am in need of a bullet proof phone case for my LG G4. My plan is to always keep it in my front left shirt pocket, just in case some no good, would-be evil villain tries to shoot me in the heart.
Please respond and do the needful. You are my only hope.
Love,
~ DeMiNe0
P.S. ~ I am been informed by 20degrees that the heart is actually not where I had orignally thought it was. I am also now in the market for a trendy shirt with either a. a third middle pocket, or b. one single middle pocket.
But the heart is actually closer to the center of the chest..... ?
Well ****.....
OP Edited!
Why not just wear shirts with an arrow pointing to a less life threatening area with a caption that reads "My hear is actually located here" ?
Yeah, it is actually centred, but the left ventricle is bigger than the right side, so it appears to be to the left.

I had the Urban Armor Gear case for the Galaxy S3, and it took quite a bit of abuse. I got it for the G4, and it seems just as sturdy. The fit and finish is perfect, even with the leather back. They have two, both transparent. One is clear, and the other is smoky. They apparently have certified military grade drop protection. I read a story from someone who had one for the GS3 that dropped it off their motorcycle going 30mph, and the phone was completely fine.
well if u really need a bulletproof case
i suggest you buy some cheap hardcase from ebay or amazon
then you go buy a nice block of steel, or titanium, or maybe vibranium if you can get your hands on
then you find your nearest blacksmith or metal workshop, then forge or mold the metal block you have into the shape of the hardcase
and maybe you should kill the blacksmith, the metal seller, and the ebay/amazon seller, because you don't want to get your cover blown, right

HAHA like you thread~
How are you doing man~ Found anything strange around you?
I just hired a sniper to shoot you. Hope you already got your bullet proof case.
This is probably the most entertaining post I've seen here for quite some time. Well done!
You should buy the zerolemon case and battery. That thing could probably stop a bullet and could also be used to hit an enemy over the head.

Easy, Tony Stark can make you one! You oughta know him, right?
Have you looked into carbon nanotubes?
Every spy agency should have at least some of this material available for standard field work.
It offers flexibility and low weight.
Perfect for a nice bullet proof suit, with pockets anywhere you desire.
Then you could just use a fancy case and look even more awesome.
You could add some piezo electric generators and combine it with a Qi charger.
Spare power could be sent to your other spy gadgets.
Kevlar is your friend.
you live in italy 70's?
I suggest forgoing the pocket and just hang it on a chain, mr t style.
