I just ordered this from Expansys. I had a APC unit (similar) to this previously, but it has died on me.
It says that it can recharge the HD2 three times. It comes with both USB and Micro USB connections, allowing it to be used with other USB devices.

Ordered this along with the screen protectors (P300) from Expansys earlier today. Just got email saying that they have shipped from Singapore already.

Hey,
What I do is carry a spare charged battery which is small and light. I keep it in Nike waterproof small pouch which is designed to clip to trainer shoe laces... I just keep it in my jean's pocket...
You can get spare batteries with an exteral charger on ebay and whilst these products generally are made in China and sold through Hong Kong, I have never had any problems. I have uses the same arrangment for HTC pda's since my first "HTC" Qtek 9100 all those ROM flashes ago...
Rgs,
J
Yeah, had one from my devices as well. I wanted something that could provide longer life for long trips vs. carrying a bunch of batteries.
Not sure how those battery units will work with HD2, slow charge I suspect. The HD2 can charge from either a 500mA or a 1A source. I suspect it charges faster rfom the 1A source, which this unit provides.
The G300 battery pack is good value when compared to the price of a spare HTC battery for the HD2
I ordered a whole package from Power Traveller including the solar panels. Have not tested it yet on my HD2 but it should all work out. It works well on my other cell phone, mp3 player etc.

I just received my items from Expansys, the battery is incredible - really small. To think that the battery can charge the HD2 three complete times on a single charge (2680mAh).

Nice! Did you actually test the 3 times charging? I have something similar with rechargeable AA batteries but because it also runs from the battery while charging I could only get one charge while it had triple power as the phone.

I have let it charge off AC, uses the Mini USB port for this - not micro, for upwards of six hours so far. I am going to test it starting tomorrow, leaving on charge over night. I will drain the HD2 by playing a video as long at it will let me, then if there's any power left I'll just play games on it until gone.
Actually, I'll start in the next few minutes as I hadn't planned on going to bed anyway.
I'll also stick the screen protector on and see how that goes,

OK, I used the Battery Bank (BB G300) last night to rechage my HD2. After unpacking it and charging for four hours it only would recharge my HD2 one and a half times. According to the paperwork it should charge the HD2 three times.
So, I am going to recharge the Battery Bank overnight and try again.

The instructions say something about charging 5-6 hours on AC adaptor or 10-11 hours on USB.
By the way I got one too, thanks to Nighthawk for the tip.
SO is this something like an external battery pack? can you still use the phone while charging through this? (obviously I would assume) so it's just a bigger version of the external battery you hook up through usb if you were on the plane for example. and theoretically replace carrying 3 spare batteries?
oh am I on crack and thinking of something entirely different?

The HTC screen protector (P300) is really good. I had to line it up along the long edge of the screen, but it wasn't to difficult to get on.
Highly Recommended!

Can you tel me the difference with ORA Lil Sync USB Mobile Power Pack
version: 4400 mAh http://www.expansys.com.hk/d.aspx?i=162963:rolleyes: i orded it but can switch to yours if it is better thanks
IMHO
I would have gotten one of these:
http://www.ladyada.net/make/mintyboost/
http://www.fujicom.com/Web/Catalog....=Battaries&ProductCategory=179&ProductId=1089
Both have a universal usb socket that should be able to charge any device,
and - you can use rechargable batteries in it, or, in case of a real emergency,
buy regular AA batteries and just use them.

Well, 4400mAh is a lot more than the HTC one (2680mAh). I personaly like the size and the fact it is an HTC device, but that is just me. If you are happy with what you picked I would stay with it. The only thing I would look for is what the output is. To charge HD2 at full speed you need 1A output, not the normal 500mA that most USB devices use. You can use the 500mA charger, but it takes longer.

The HTC unit has standard USB port as well. The ability to add AA batteries is nice, but I am not in need of this at the moment.
Would anyone know of a battery charger that will charge the X1 battery, without it being inside the phone?
It would need the charging circuitry, to at least stop charging once the battery is full. I have seen stands for other models, in which the phone also gets charged with a slot for a second battery, but since the X1 charges from the top left and not the bottom, this layout wouldn't be attractive to suppliers in principle.

cbc-100
ep900
i believe its the CBC-200 http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/products/accessories/overview/cbc-200#view=overview
and ep900 http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/products/accessories/overview/ep900#view=overview
the difference is the connector it uses. CBC-200 is the fastport connector
while the ep900 is the microusb connector
both charge the x1/x2's BST-41 battery
Thanks very much Reversedhex, Jonny4911
Whilst looking for the EP900, I came across this: http://www.octilus.com/cargador-sobremesa-y-sincronizacion-sony-ericsson-xperia-p-150426.html
as you can see, it syncs/charges the phone, and can also charge a battery on its own (but not both at the same time), with a LED to indicate charge. €30, may give it a go if I can't track down the EP900
and here (in English) http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/sony-ericsson-xperia-x1-dual-desktop-charging-cradle-p17830.htm
Well I couldn't find anyone to sell me the SE spare battery charger, which is a shame, but I bought the stand-charger-spare battery charger from Mobile Fun.
It comes with a wall charger that connects via mini-USB to the stand itself. There is a space to charge the spare battery (the battery goes "face-down") and a holder for the phone, plus a cable that charges the phone directly.
It works well. The only negative points are extremely bright LEDs to indicate the stand is plugged in, and charging. Not a good idea for the bedside table... but resolved with some insulation tape over the LEDs.
Secondly, it does charge the phone as expected if you plug the phone in then unplug the spare battery, but the LED battery status light does not change colour immediately.
So in short, it's a good piece of kit.
I have the cbc-200 i bought it off of amazon from germany for £30. To be honest its designed well but its not particulary strong plastic. Certainly not £30 worth of plastic anyway, its pretty handy and i had a fastport charger from my p1i anyway so i use that. The only problem is if u leave the battery in it wen its not charging the red flashing light discarges the battery. Which isnt very helpful. Especially wen your in the lake district miles away from any electrical source. Hope this is useful to someone. B
Nice Info..
Thanks everybody
If you happen to be in Madrid - Octilus have the charger/spare battery charger on sale for €16.95
I may just buy it, since the one I bought from Mobile Fun back in Jan doesn't charge the spare battery directly any more...
I bought one from ebay, it was new and unused and bundled with a non original battery, it was only 9 dolars (6.5 euros) including shipping. It came from hong kong if i recall well. The battery lasts much less than the original but it was definatelly worth it. In short, there are solutions to your problem
Planning to buy a second battery for the HD2.
Certainly would be convenient to be able to charge the spare battery externally, and have it ready for use.
Anyone know of an external battery charger that is available? Anyone here actually tried one, and could tell us if it works well or not?
I see one on Ebay-
http://cgi.ebay.com/Battery-AC-WALL...CH-HD2-T8585-/290466531133?pt=PDA_Accessories
Don't know if it is any good though.
Also, not sure if it is really for the HD2 battery. The ad says it is for the "HTC TOUCH HD2 T8585".
Is the HD2 ever called "Touch HD2"? Or do they have it confused with the Touch Pro? What is that number T8585?
Farther down I thought I recall it said something like "for Sprint HD2", although I don't see that now. Sprint doesn't have the HD2, does it?
Even at a cheap price like that, it would be kind of a drag to buy that, and it doesn't fit the HD2 battery at all, then you have to pay for return shipping. (At least it is shipped from the USA, unusual for that kind of thing.)
Anyone here tried one of these, or another one? It would certainly add to the convenience, if one has an extra battery, to be able to charge one externally? (This one says it can charge two, but I don't see how from the pic.)
I just bought a spare battery from this place.
http://www.obostore.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=21_45&products_id=189
I bought one and it cooks my batteries. We should start a thread dedicated to finding after market and OEM batteries online. I purchased several batteries from ebay vendors and IMMEDIATELY tested them using a Triton (RC Hobby Computer chargers) it is sophisticated and charges to max recommended voltage then MEASURES the wattage during a fixed drain cycle. I sent up the drain cycle assuming a 5 hour talk time. (MAH of batteries / 5). EBAY batteries consistently only gave 750-850 mah although they claimed over 1000. One seller (I tested 2 batteries) only had 450 and 465 mah.
I purchased cradle chargers, "OEM" Car chargers, as well as wall chargers. The bottom line is that Chinese produced items are prey to the lowest price regime that is the nature of the Chinese market. Quality is non existent, just the lowest price for an item that resembles a quality product.
Stick with verizon, sprint etc chargers that are proven and tested. That was the best solution for me. I tried to purchase an "OEM" HTC [email protected] charger ebay. It had a poor replica of an HTC logo and it also seems to overcharge and cook my batteries.
Anyone else have any experience or opinions?
Now you got me scared about buying one of the battery chargers.
By the way though, just about everything we buy here (certainly electronics) is made in China. But yes, if it is non brand name, or fake brand name, it might not (or might) have the same quality. (And if shipped from China, not worth returning if it is a dud.)
You say "stick with Verizon and Sprint chargers". Well, the HD2 is not sold by Sprint and Verizon. Are you saying they put out a charger for one of their phones, that uses the exact same batteries? Link to those chargers? Thanks.

Thank you, but just telling us where you bought your battery and charger don't tell us much, without a review of them.
I also posted a link to a charger in the OP, and asked if anyone has tried it, and knows if it is any good.
The previous poster wrote that the no-name chargers can damage the batteries. I don't know if he or she is correct or not, but it scared me about buying one. The battery and charger you linked to are no-name. Have you tested them, the way the previous poster did?
Also, the products you linked to seem very expensive, but I don't know the relationship of Hong Kong dollars to US dollars. Anyone know?
Well, I just bought the one I mentioned in the second post, from Ebay.
At $5.99, free shipping, ships from the USA, I figure not much to lose.
I guess I'll be nervous whether the poster is correct about generic chargers "cooking" batteries. I don't know how I would know, if the charger is damaging to batteries or not. Would they be too hot after charging?
By the way, for those interested in a "cradle" for the HD2, which also has a space for charging an extra battery, I saw one on Amazon, about $20. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0..._m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1FZ013TFV210J7ZAEDS6
(I have no need for a cradle though, and prefer the small charger only design.

lol.. i am using the charger and battery as we speak... and its not some no-name charger and battery.. the brand is MOMAX.. they have a website momax.net which shows their items.. the battery is fit for use for HD2 original battery and the momax battery, which is why i bought it.. the charger has got 2 charging points, direct to hd2 like the normal charger, and external battery charging function, which is what i liked about it.. no need to switch between 2 chargers, 1 stop solution for the battery in my phone and the other spare battery, whether is it the original battery or their momax battery.
Well, having a name one never heard of like "Momax", doesn't mean the product is not "no name". By the latter I did not mean no name at all, but not a recognized brand name.
Not saying that all products without a recognized brand name are no good (I ended up ordering one, in fact), just that one is taking a chance. (And I think I would have taken just as much of a chance with "Momax" as with the one I ordered.) Besides, the one I ordered was shipped from the USA, much better for returns, quick shipping, etc., than something ordered from Hong Kong.
By the way, do you work for that company "Momax"?

nope, not me..
I have the charger pictured in the 2nd post here, ive had it for over 2 months charging batteries in it daily and have had no problems with the charger or batteries.
The seller i bought it from was US based and they also shipped 2 additional batteries with it, so i now rotate my batteries. I have one in the phone, a spare that i carry in my wallet, and one in the charger at all times. When the phone battery dies it goes into the charger, the charged one goes to my wallet ,and the one in my wallet goes to the phone.
I started doing this ever since I had to return by HD2 due to a damaged USB port causing it to go into car kit mode. I think i have only used this new HD2's USB port twice for charging since i got it. I prefer to just swap the batteries.
This works out great because i never have to worry about carrying around a charger and finding a place to stop for awhile to charge up a bit
It does however seem the charger is incapable of charging a battery and phone via the usb port simultaneously. If i put a dead battery in it the charge light will light up red to indicate it is charging, as soon as i plug something into the usb port the light will go blue to indicate charging is done. Im guessing the internal power supply isnt beefy enough to simultaneously charge both
Just bought the same charger listed in the 2nd post. Seller informed me of delayed USPS pickup due to the snow storm in NY area
Oh well for $5 if it doesn't work as expected it won't hurt my wallet.
charger arrived last night, tested with the stock battery. Charged to full in 3 hours, so far so good.
Only complaint: the charger is slight narrower compared to the battery, so about 1/8 inch of the battery is sticking out during the charging process. It does look cheap but gets the job done. Besides, it's only $5.
Now I just swap batteries (I bought an extra battery elsewhere) and don't have to use the USB port to charge anymore, woohoo!
going to buy this charger from ebay..will review it later when it comes

Busted USB port here, about 6 months ago, bought the same charger and a spare battery, and it hasn't failed me yet. The battery does stick out the one side a bit, but it works. Only problem I ever had was the one time I let my gf switch my batteries in it and she bent one of the charger's contact pins. I bent it back, and it's worked well since.
I actually prefer battery swapping now over charging.
Does anyone have experience with some of the cheap batteries found on ebay.
I use to buy cheap Hong Kong batteries for my Blackberrys from ebay (for as little as a $5). Of course I'm not expecting stellar performance at this price but I found I'd get 75% as much as the original from some and as little as 30 mins on standby from others!
Has anyone had any success with this?
I'll be able to tell you in a few weeks. I just ordered a couple and they are due in next weeks.
Awesome. Thanks!
I bought one of the cheap aftermarket batteries from eBay. It seems to work OK, if slightly shorter than the original Dell battery (this is just subjective - I have not done a direct comparison). Then again, I have 3 original Dell batteries and (subjectively) they also seem to have variances in how long they last.
I have also bought similar batteries for my previous phones (a Toshiba TG01 and a load of HTC devices) with no problems.
For the cost of the Hong Kong batteries, they are very cheap insurance against ending up somewhere with a flat Dell and no way to charge it.
Could you perhaps link me to the seller you bought from?

Just do a search on eBay - http://shop.ebay.co.uk/i.html?_nkw=...w=(Dell,slacker)+(Streak,"Mini+5",G2)+battery - and choose the cheapest.
The one I bought was item 360304238945 from seller grade_a_battery but I suspect that they all come from the same factory, so I would just choose the cheapest. The battery I received was physically identical to the original Dell one (other than the sticker on it).

Given that the cheaper batteries on eBay cost under £8 each, whereas the official Dell battery costs over £38 - http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sna/ProductDetail.aspx?c=uk&cs=ukdhs1&l=en&sku=451-11431 - and the cheaper batteries are almost as good as (if not identical to) the Dell originals, I really can't agree with you.

Never hurt a device that I've had to use cheap batteries. Cheap chargers on the other hand can destroy your good batteries.
So what do you use to charge your batteries (cheap or otherwise)?
I order one of the universal lithium chargers off of ebay.

I was planning on just swapping them out of the device as needed. Not the best situation but I've ruined batteries with cheap chargers. Problem is the damage takes a while to be evidenced so it's hard to know if your charger is ruining your battery. If there is an official stand alone charger from Dell at some point in the future then I'll probably pick that up. It's unfortunate that they sell extra batteries but no extra chargers.
Is anyone aware of a good quality charger for these batteries?
So your plan is to use the streak as the charger.
I thought about that but it is in the charging phase that batteries are at their most dangerous (to damage the phone).
Yes that was my plan
I didn't know that would be a good way to damage the phone.
I'm guessing the damage would be to a processor in a similar way that processors are damaged in a computer. I know a bit about this. Specifically that small changes in voltage can quickly ruin a processor. I've seen as little as using 1.5V, where 1.4V was the specified maximum, permanently degrade a processor after only 30 minutes of use. Also heat issues could possibly arise (though in desktop computing this is a huge misconception as it is almost impossible to damage a CPU like this these days because of built in self preservation mechanisms).
But for those in warranty it would be impossible for Dell/whoever to tell that this is why, so there isn't too much risk if it did come to that.
I wish that an expert would weigh in here.
What I was thinking of was when batteries fail they leak, get too hot, or explode.
These things usually happen during the charging cycle of a batter.
Put it this way, I left my streak charging with a motorola charger (700ma), don't know if it makes any difference, left it overnight charging from 30%, next morning the streak had no charge and wouldn't charge the battery, now I have 2 batteries and a desktop charger made of 2 desktop chargers lol and a dell streak that won't charge, I already have tried a few cables even a dock and no go on the charging, I can sync the streak and transfer files but nothing on charging. I highly suggest you buy a desktop charger for those cheap batteries. its only $5 on the most.
Also there is a power management IC (TPS 65023)in charge of any power related thing, worst case if your battery over voltages it will burn that IC before it reaches the cpu.

I run my laptop and my Dell Streak on cheap batteries. My Toshiba NB100 gets 5 hours on a charge (1 hour more than original battery) and the cheap 7 pound Cameron Sino battery in my Streak is easily comparable to the genuine item
I bought two cheapie batteries for the Streak and neither will charge in the streak itself. (I get a temperature warning and info that the battery will not charge.)
HOWEVER...
I bought one of those cheapie external battery chargers (search "Dell Streak battery charger on ebay) and I am able to charge the battery in it. It lasts as long as the original battery and it gives me great peace of mind knowing I have a fully charged battery for my Streak in reserve.
I think i am going to buy this one...you get 2 of the 1600mah batteries and a charger for less than 25$....They look pretty good and are bigger than the stock 1530mah...I also found a 1650mah however this is a better deal....I also found a sweet bluetooth keyboard for less than 5$...I have a love/hate ebay though...Bought over a 100 things and always seem to get 1 in 2 things...lol...rest of the time I either get my money back or get ripped off...been waiting for 2 months for screen protectors...lol....

To get more power from a Lithium battery you need to make it bigger (see the Mugen batteries), batteries that boast a higher Amp rating at the same size are just Chinese salesmanship. Not saying don't buy them, just be aware that they most likely will not last longer than your original.

I have just bought this 2X Battery + Charger. The Charger has a foldaway 2 pin US AC plug but the seller also provides a UK slip on adapter. See here
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/B11u-2-Batter...438?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item19c4447a16
I am really pleased with the purchase. The Charger is very good and the batteries are fine, just what you would expect and will do me in an emergency.
I can recommend the seller too. He communicates and is very helpful. When the UK adapter was received broken he has promised to send a replacement.

Put it this way, I left my streak charging with a motorola charger (700ma), don't know if it makes any difference, left it overnight charging from 30%, next morning the streak had no charge and wouldn't charge the battery.

I think to charge streak the charger output needs to be 1000mA.
I have a mungen battery, very good investment. Last longer then original, wouldn't trust the cheap hk ones.
I've recently bought an Energizer portable charger from ebay, will let you guys know my experience once I got it
Got it from eBay.
Charges faster in phone...while using!
If battery is around 40% it being be charged overnight.
Anyone else experience this?
could be the amp? maybe below 1 amp? Samsung charger has 2amps om it. check your charger and look for the amp. btw. the lower the amp the better for your battery..
Buy an OEM charger. The Samsung one is $50 from Samsung website but you can get the Asus charger from Google play store for $25. Both are two ampbi believe. Or you can get the 1a for $25 from samsung. Getting OEM directly from an OEM or authorized reseller or a storefront lime Google is key. Getting cheap chargers is gonna bite you in the ass one day or think about it like this. Why keep wasting time buying cheap chargers again and again when you can put up proper money and get quality in one go and have peace of mind for a few years. I even stopped buying chargers from amazon because they're just cheap knockoffs too. Phi hong makes good chargers and power supplies but they are harder to source. Phi hong came with my nexus one andy galaxy nexus OEM Home dock.
Anyways, aside from that part of the reason for slow charging is you probably have an unsafe charger that is not rated what it really is and is made of poor materials. Getting a quality 1a or higher, preferably 2a in this case and your gnote2 should charge @ 1.8a. In other words, you can charge from zero to full in ~2-2.5 hours. Or from partially full to 100% in less than 2 easily.

Unless I am mistaken, OP is referring to battery chargers, not usb chargers. That's how I charge mine, too. I have spare batteries, and they all get charged directly. When my battery is low, I just swap. I hate having my phone attached to a cord, even at night.
Yes, all the battery chargers I've had for every device (including this one) have been lower amp than the usb chargers supplied with the phone. It is especially slow for this huge battery for the Note 2. While it bothers me in concept, it's never actually been an issue for me, so I haven't done anything about it. I don't know if higher amp battery chargers are available, but I don't feel like spending extra money on one.
As far as battery health goes, charging at a lower amperage certainly isn't hurting the battery. If anything, it's actually better for it.
Yes...charging just the battery with wall charger.
@ 40% it will not be charged at 6am when I wake!!!
Are there better wall chargers?
Why do you hate having your phone attached to a Cord overnight. I heard that's fine and do it every night.!

Not for the phone, for me. It just bothers me having a wireless device locked to a wall. There's no reason for it. And I frequently get up in the night for various reasons (kids, work, insomnia, etc), and it bugs me unplugging in the middle of a charge cycle.
Incidentally, a non-removable battery was a deal breaker, and one of the reasons I didn't get a Nexus 4. I got used to never plugging in my last phone, and I don't want to go back. It was torture the first week or two with the N2 before my spare batteries arrived.
The charger should have its output printed on it, I've had a look at the pics on ebay and the first two I found that I could read were 500mA and 350mA, the original charger is 2A or 2000mA. Samsung make there own battery charger http://www.samsung.com/au/consumer/...es/EB-H1J9VNEGSTD?subsubtype=other-multimedia the output is 1.7A so much closer to the original usb charger.
I'd be worried about my back cover getting loose doing what you do. I had three batteries for my old phone, but I did not swap them on a daily basis, just when travelling or away from power for an extended time. I've ordered some wireless chargers so I can have one by my bed and another downstairs. I know they only output 500mA too, but for an overnight charge thats fine for me. I dont think there is any issue with interrupting the charge cycle, the two main enemies of lithium batteries are heat and being totally/almost discharged on a regular basis. Its best to keep them topped up.

It looks like the OEM battery charger is available on ebay for around $15. That's good to know in case mine ever crap out on me. These cheapies that I get tend to.
As far as the back cover getting loose, after 3 months, it is a little bit looser than when it was new. 1.5 years with my G2x didn't loosen it at all, but the build quality on that thing was fantastic. I keep this in a case anyway, so it being a little looser goes unnoticed. If it gets bad, back cover replacements are cheap.
If one of the devs can make the kernel capable of fastcharge, it would not take but half the time to charge. Yank who is working with Faux on his kernel, helped make the kernel fast charge capable.

But what is the point of having it charge fast, when all it is is going to drain faster?
I charge mine overnight with a charger rated at 750mah I believe and it last me a whole day. As oppose to using a 2.1 am charger I have, where the battery percentage would start dropping by the first hour.
Correct me if I am wrong here, but this is what I've notice with my last few phones.
The Perseus kernel with stweaks has the ability to change the charging parameters.
With it overclocked/undervolted I am getting better life than I did on stock.
Not for sure what you mean as it depleting the charge faster on a higher amperage charger. Kind of sounds like you may have had failing batteries, etc.
There seem to be a few misunderstandings here regarding batteries and chargers.
1) The charge rate, when the battery is in the phone, is controlled BY the phone. The charger itself just supplies regulated power to the phone. How much current is put into the battery at any given time is up to the phone, which is why kernels can do things like fast charge, it's controlled by the kernel. Now, the reason the battery charges faster when using the stock charger vs. something lower current or a computer is simple. The phone can detect what it's connected to within some limitations. It sounds like our phone can also sense the incoming voltage levels and back off if the supply becomes unstable.
2) Using the stock 2A charger is "harder" on the battery than a lower current charger. Not true, at least not within any margin of error you will be able to detect without specialized equipment. Lipo batteries are generally built to charge/discharge at 1C. C in this case stands for capacity. So our 3100mah batteries can charge at 3.1Amp and be within safety margin. So the 2Amp charger the phone comes with is perfectly fine for the battery. Without seeing a datasheet for the battery from Samsung, that's a good guess. And again, the phone controls the charge current based on a number of parameters. You could connect the phone to a 5V supply capable of 100Amp and it will still only use what it needs.
3) The percentage readout on the phone screen is a GUESS. Don't pay it too much attention. For this same reason, evaluating 3rd party batteries based on phone runtime etc is not useful. To validate the battery capacity with any accuracy requires a test setup discharging the battery through a known load and measuring how long it takes to get to a cutoff voltage. I've done some of these tests myself on stock and 3rd party batteries. In general, the OEM batteries are always at or above spec, the 3rd party battery manufacturers lie. Often by upward of 20%. Even the high $ batteries. Keep that in mind when shopping if you want extras or extended batteries.
4) Interrupting the charge cycle is bad. Nope. It's fine. On this same line of thought, full cycles ARE bad. Don't do it. Don't think too much about it either though. Just plug it in when convenient. Or set it on the wireless charger if you've installed one. Generally speaking, they actually don't like to be charged to 100% either. Keeping it at 20%-80% is actually best for the longevity of the battery cell itself. In practice, you will probably have a new phone before any of this is actually noticeable.
The OP sounds like they are talking about a stand-alone charger, where the battery is not in the phone. Those will vary wildly in quality and capability, particularly from ebay. They are probably cheap POS devices. Not that that's really a bad thing, just know about it. It's probably a very low charge rate device, perhaps even down to 100ma or so. That would take forever to charge our larger batteries. As for if there is a better one, probably. If Samsung makes one, it will probably charge faster than the phone with the provided charger plug as there would be no load from the phone using power. Of course, it will cost a lot more as well. Look for devices that at least claim they will charge at 2Amp or so. In practice, they will probably be a lot lower, but your chances are improved. Not many people will break out an ammeter and check, after all.

Perseus kernal has fast charging settings.
What ttabbal wrote is mostly correct. But the problem lies within some input voltage protection logic tied to the charger chip of the phone which is extremely (and too much so) sensitive.

Can people stop calling it fast-charge, it's an idiotic term which technically means nothing. While most kernels have some sort of charging speed configuration options, they're all useless in regard to this problem as the current in the end is decided by a different logic. You'll have to disable unstable power detection and that's the only way to make it work and fix the problem, unless you go hunting down high quality cables and chargers.
Personally I also encountered the problem as my stock S3 charger, as many others here have reported, has deteriorated and it would only charge at an effective 300mA. I disabled unstable power detection and now it charges at the full given current limits, without any issues.

You have to make sure it's "2a" charger capacity. It happened to me once. Go to monoprice.com and search for a universal 2a charger... pretty cheap
