Problems charging whith the iphone charger

Living in Sweden, I cant use the original charger (without an adapter), so I'm using the iphone charger to charge my Nexus S. The iphone charger is 5v 1A, vs 5v 750mA on the original charger. It works, but it takes forever and forever. around 14 hours from almost drained to +90%. If anything, shouldn't it go faster?
Something broken, or am I missing something?

Long charge times have plagued the Galaxy S line of phones since the origina i9000; seems to have improved on the NS for me, but it doesn't charge nearly as fast as an iPhone (but iPhone has smaller battery).
Yes, I'd expect a 1 amp charger to go at least as fast.
I'm curious if your phone charges faster on the USB port of your computer than you're getting with that charger.
Are you sure there's nothing wrong with the charger or cord you're using?

As soon as I saw .75a on the provided samsung charger I chucked it back into the box and have been using the 1a charger from my HTC aria instead.....I still get pretty slow charge times compared to my N1 but nowhere near as slow as you are getting!! (14 hours) I too would be interested to know how well/poorly your NS charges through a pc usb or another charger, it sounds like you may even have a problem with your device :s
That samsung charger is just a POS all around IMHO tho....its ugly as sin (freaking huge) and only .75a?? cmaaaaannnnnnnnnnn, samsung!!!

I'm using the little iPhone USB charger as well and my phone still takes over 3 hours to charge. Charging time is horrendous.

My charging problems occur perhaps every tenth time I try to charge it... So something with the negotiation seems thinkable...

Couldn't this hurt the battery/internals?

Can Milestone charger be used for OB?

I'm about to use a Moto Milestone 1 charger for OB but I'm afraid that it may harm the phone. Both phones are listed with MicroUSB 2. Any tips?

Don't worry.. it will work Ok, but OB charger has 1000ma, if you use another charger that has let's say 500ma (like USB) it will take 3 hours to charge the phone instead of the regular 45 minutes!
I use a samsung cable directly from USB, the car USB port, a samsung 5530 charger, a LG optimus one charger, and they all worked, with various degrees of effectiveness!
The most useful one is the car's USB port that, even if it cannot keep up with the GPS (it charges slower than the battery drains), it can keep the phone running with 10% loss every hour with screen activated and GPS at the same time! The problem is that I hate radio and don't use CD's that much, and usually end up with the phone depleted before I reach the destination!

Both places; battery specify working and standby V and mA, charger specify the V and mA provider
So you can use almost every different charger if the specs are the same, but be aware of this: don't use a charger with less mA since it can burn the charger

Ma - miliamps.
How many milliamps in 1 watt/volt? The answer is 1000.
I assume you are converting between milliampere and watt/volt.
I never had a burnt charger by the way, that would be very strange considering that the phone is accepting 500ma from the start (that is the USB output on any PC), and I even saw chargers with a power of 2W (SUPER FAST CHARGERS). The Motorola chargers are 850 ma usually, so it should work quite good!

Indeed, it's very strange to have a burnt charger and we don't need to go into an electrical discussion but that happens because of 2 possible things, very high-peak of voltage or prolonged use of under-voltage

Thanks. Printed on my Moto charger is 850mA so I'll rather use it for my OB next time.
BTW, currently I'm using a replacement charger for my OB with a name "super charger" printed "4.5v - 9.5v 800ma"
It's charging at normal duration in fact I'm using it for days. The only problem is that my OB touchscreen freaks out if I use it while that charger is connected. It's obvious when I run the multitouch testing app because touch points run all over the place. Touchscreen goes back to normal if I disconnect the charger. I tested that "super charger" to my milestone and the same abnormal thing happens to the screen. What causes it?

Probably it's something to do with high voltage... I'd avoid using it if something like that happens to my phone..
Usually the USB style chargers are pretty standard... the speed with which they work are strongly related to the power (Amperes) they provide, the voltage "should" be pretty standard!

Battery experts say to try and use a charger that's rated half the power of the battery.
So for a 1500 mAh battery, a charger of 850 mAh should be a better option than a 1000 mAh one.
Yes, the 1000 mAh charger would charge the battery faster than the 850 mAh one but it will decrease the lifetime of the battery faster.

Hello, I don't want to start a new thread so I'll ask here.
The charger that came with my OB seems to be damaged. It was working properly until last last night. My phone detects the charger but it won't charge. Got powermax turned on and it automatically turned off when I connected the charger, so I know my charger does have issues.
Tried banging the charger last night, connected it to phone and started charging, woke up to see that it stopped charging 2 hours ago. It didn't even fully charge my phone. Now I'm charging it with my pc via the USB cable. I noticed that the touch screen goes wild when I use it while connected with the USB.
Now, I'm planning to buy a Galaxy S2 charger. Is it safe to use? S2 and OB has almost the same battery capacity so I'm considering it. Any other suggestions? OB ain't popular here in the Philippines so finding accessories is a real pain in the a**.
Fitted a Corby 2 charger and it seems like they use Mini-usb too. Haven't tried charging with it though.

My original charger also died... Now I use the one that came with my bluetooth headset
So I guess using the OB charger on other stuff is okay too. USB is always ~5v.
You need to test the charger with something else to be sure, though.

So, you agree that I use a Galaxy S2 charger? I think it would be fine since my friend with an S2 used my charger to charge his phone and it went well. I'll ask him to buy me one tomorrow. Tnx for reply

Don't even bother, if it has a micro USB it should be fallowing the same standard as USB for charging (5V)...
Of course test the charger for any adverse side effects like screen flickering or short battery life, and don't use it if something like that occurs, but because of the standardized voltage and the fact that usually phone chargers have between 500 - 1000 mA, 99% of chargers work...
I still haven't found any incompatible charger for my phone and I don't even buy a phone if it has a non standard Charging/Data Port... it's just stupid... so no Iphone for me!

Hello guys! I'm here for an update. For the past week I've been using a Corby 2 charger. And guess what, it works just fine! only downside is it won't charge it up to 100% (usually gets to 99% upon unplugging). And it charges the phone a little slower than the original charger. I always let the phone overcharge overnight to have 100% battery.

Since somebody stole my laptop (and my charger too) I'm using a ZTE Blade charger without problems...

Using different chargers question please

I have numerous chargers at home all of which have charged my evo, gs2, Nexus 7, etc.
Can these be used interchangeable in the Note 2 without harming the charging process?

As long as the Voltage is the same (5V) there is no Problem. But you should have a charger at 2 Amper for optimal charging speed.

I just tried charging mine with the normal microUSB charger I use for every other phone I have had and it took 7.5 hours to charge from 5%-62%. I used the stock charger that was in the box and it charged it in 3.5-4 hours no problem. Seems like the charger in the box charges faster.

reading this thread made me curious, my NOTE II should arrive in about a week, I can't tell for myself yet, what is the A (amps) specification mentioned on the original charger?
as i come from HTC, my current chargers go up to 1 A current. witch is the double A a standard USB port will give unless crossover'd .

Filling a 3100mAh battery requires some grunt.

i think even the usb cable makes a difference..
when i use the stock usb cable with the stock charger ..my s3 would charge up comparatively faster than with the other usb cable connected to the same stock charger.:rolleyes

It certainly does! :good:
All electrical cables have some resistance. Very low (but not zero) for quality cables, sometimes quite noticeable for thin and cheap offerings.
From Ohm's Law we know that voltage drop will be proportional to current. A cable with a resistance of just half an ohm will loose about 0.5% at 50mA. That's pretty much nothing. However, at 2000mA the loss reaches 20%.

dude use any charger, just don't use LG charger **** !!!!!

You must use the 5volt 2amp charger and cable provided or a replacement with the same output or youll either be waiting for ever for it to charge or do some damage.
I tryed using my note 1 charger rated at 1amp and guess what? It took about twice as long to charge.

Some of my old 1 Amp chargers aren't happy at all, and will often decide to stop charging randomly.
I though it was something weird with my phone, but after switching chargers it never happened again.

And yes its a 2.0A charger, so the SIII charger isn't appropriate for NoteII.
this is the kind of charger used in Canada, USA, and Latin America, i bought this NoteII in Mexico from an authorized Samsung provider, of course factory unlocked 710usd, like 10,900mxn.

Has anyone tried a 3A charger? Just wondering if this would speed up charging even more than the standard 2A charger.

No, it won't speed it up. It's what the device takes from a charger, and not what a charger can potentially supply. If the device's charging circuit is spec'd for up to 2A current, that's what it will suck out of a charger, not more. You can connect a 30A lab power supply, and it will still be the same 2A (or less) input. To speed up the charging process, you need to mod the charging circuit of the device itself.

I usually have my note3 plugged into normal usb port on my notebook as i work to recharge it just using a normal micro usb cable.. i noticed that re-charges usually take forever and even after 2-3 hours of charging it only goes up only about 10%... is this normal ? my previous phone iphone 2-3 hours on a charger its fully charged.
is there anything i can do to speed up the re-charging like asus ai charger ? or anything else ?

Usb 2.0 is limited to ~ 500ma, the phone will pull 1.2a- 1.5a on the Samsung charger

The ASUS AI charger is for 3.0 only I believe, and your Note isn't compatible with that. I purchased one of the RCA plugs from Lowes that has 4 USB ports on it and has an output of 4.1 or 4.2 amps and using the 3.0 cable that came with the phone it charges it very fast.

Here's what I use guys. I used it on my Note 2, my brother's S3, my Note 3, and also my LG G Pad 8.3. It has about 1.8-1.9A charging capability and charges a little faster oddly enough than the 2.0A stock plug when plugged into the wall. Yes, it's a wall charger, so that's obviously the best way to charge. It's cheap and very convenient; the cable is actually quite long, which is much nicer so you have more room to move around when charging. You won't be disappointed. I don't advertise garbage products. I always look for the best quality things and share my results and opinions to help others. Before my Note 3, I had rooted my Note 2 and had Perseus kernel; I increased the charging values so I could utilize faster charging, and this charger was the best for that. I highly recommend it. I've had it for about almost 11 months. It has never given me any issues, and it has great reviews.

So what is the max that note3 will take?

Anker PowerIQ inconsistent charging

Has anyone had issues using Anker PowerIQ chargers with the Nexus 5X? I've purchased an Anker 2nd Gen Astro E4 13000mAh 2-Port (3A Output) and when connected to the Nexus 5X it keeps connecting and disconnecting. It does not appear to be a cable issue (my old 2A charger works fine through the same cable). Meanwhile the Anker charges the old Nexus 5 without any issue - it's just the Nexus 5X that seems to experience problems.
I'm wondering whether it's Anker's PowerIQ having trouble working out the correct power draw for the Nexus 5X. If anyone's had similar issues with PowerIQ or other chargers, I'd love to hear potential fixes or confirmation that I'll need to switch it out for something else.

I have encountered the exact same issue with the Anker Astro E4 battery. At first I figured it was the cheap Aliexpress USB-A to C cable I was using, but I think you're onto something about the PowerIQ not knowing how to negotiate with the 5X correctly. I contacted Anker Support on Twitter yesterday and was told to contact [email protected] about the issue. I haven't yet pursued that avenue, but I'll update once I have.

I don't think I have any issue with my PowerIQ non-quick charging 6 port desktop charger or 2-port battery park (15600 mah)

I have the same issue with my Nexus 5X. After I posted a negative review due to this on Amazon, Anker reached out to me and has shipped one of their 4 port chargers which they think will resolve the issue. We shall see...

It still could be a cable issue. The difference is that your Anker may contain smarter charging tech inside and it is self regulating what the cable is asking for (possibly 3A) when it cant really deliver that. With your other charger, it is possible it is blindly delivering an overcharge for its rated max and may brown out soon if not over time.

In my case, I'm 99% certain it's not the cable, as I'm using an OEM / Google A->C cable.

I honestly don't know, as I don't have an OEM type A wall charger to test it with. I would assume so, since it came from Google. I did receive Anker's 4 port car charger last night, but need to wait until this evening commute (once my battery drains) to see whether it works. Plugging it in this morning showed just "charging" when I was at 98%, but it wasn't cutting in and out like the 2 port one was.

My OEM cable is on its way as well. If you get a chance to test it on a different charger later on, please post the results. I would love to see that OEM cable say "charging rapidly."

Followup: I tested the Anker 4 port charger with the OEM Google A->C cable, and it does register as "charging rapidly." Using Ampere, I measured 1340 mA / 4.08 V peak to it. I also tested my new Tronsmart charger (with built-in USB C cable), which measured 1710 mA / 3.903 V peak.

I have same disconnect issues with aukey quickcharge battery pack

After a little back and forth with Anker email support, they are sending me an Anker PowerCore+ 10050 USB-C Battery Pack as a replacement for the Astro E2 not charging the 5x correctly - at no charge! Very impressed. It's been shipped but I haven't received it yet - from what I can tell spec-wise it has native USB Type C and A ports, but I can't yet confirm if this can fast charge the 5x at the same output as the stock wall charger.
I'll report back once I've had time to test.

sounds like an combo issue of the cable and battery pack/charger.
have you guys seen the thread about a google engineer (benson leung) reviewing usb -c cables?
basically usb-c standard cables should have a resistor in them which the phone uses to detect if the charger is able to supply 3A or not. without this (most cables seem to not have this, including the oneplus one) the phone thinks it can draw 3A and tries to do so. this can result in damaging you charger as that is more than it can produce. but apparently it can also damage components in your phone as the current it thinks it is receiving is higher than the actual current being received.
The disconnection issue sounds like the charger has a protection mechanism and realizes the phone is trying to draw more power than it can provide, so it cuts off to prevent overloading.

I tried the PowerDrive 2 and it has the same isse where it charges for a few seconds, stops, then charges for a few seconds, etc. I emailed thier support but have not heard back.

I have the same issue with Aukey PA-12, tried two different cables. The charger works fine with my wife's quick charging phone.... I hope it is a kernel issue that can be fixed. The original Google charger works flawlessly.
