New Droid Bionic Specs Leaked! - Motorola Droid Bionic

This is what I found brewing over at the droid forums..
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/motorola-droid-bionic/148222-new-bionic-specs.html
A reputable source that works for Verizon has highlighted these specs: (Taken from his tweet)
(The Mobile Panda): "1.5ghz Dual core, 3g svdo, LTE on board, 4.3inch HD display with 1gb ram. 12mp cam in back 2mp in front.. anyone interested?"
Possibly the revamped Droid Bionic to become the Targa. If these specs are true, this should put Big Red back into the game.
What do you all think? Thought I'd spread the news.

I don't understand why so many people are so quick to assume that this rumored upcoming device is the droid bionic. The tweet never stated that this was the bionic, or even a motorola device for that matter.
Second, I highly doubt delayed to receive a few enhancments means 50 more processor, 100% more ram, and different cameras (both front & back).
this seems to me to sound more like htc's timing. They seem to have beat motorola to the punch more often than not lately.

It is now reliably reported that this is not the specs of the Bionic.
However, I don't understand why you don't understand that the Etna was scrapped and the Bionic is now the Targa. That Moto had problems with LTE plus Tegra 2, and that if you move to a new SOC, why wouldn't it be an increase in all specs and concurrent with SOC's that will be in production the latter half of this year.

"The bionic is now the targa" ??? Again, this is a speculation. Speculations, rumors, oppinions, & a$$ holes all fall in the category...
When people state these rumors as being fact, it just creats chaos on the forums = trolls.

So am I an a$$ hole or a troll?

I thought they canned the Targa because of battery issues?

No, the original phone that was planned to be the "Bionic" was Motorola xt865 codename "Etna" with Tegra 2. They had problems and scrapped it, apparently due to Tegra 2/LTE issues they were having(probably battery issues also). They took another project in the pipeline, codename "Targa", with TI OMAP 4430, and decided to make that the phone that will be released as "The Bionic"

No, I don't have it - but the info is getting out there now. FCC confidentiality ended so we have some reasonably solid information and Verizon testers have them and the "leaks" are saying it is looking good. You can just google "Motorola Droid Bionic xt875" and you will see there is a lot out there - just look at the info from the past couple of weeks though as it is the most current and accurate.

Truth
These are the specs for the Pantech Vega Racer. It's a Korean phone. Sorry, but I can't post links yet, but it is on engadget.com. The article name is "Pantech cooks up world's first 1.5 GHz dual-core phone, tablet in the works". It is filed under Handsets and written by Brad Molen on May 18th, 2011.

I am thinking of getting a xoom or this phone. I can't decide. I really was hoping for a bigger screen.

Building a ROM for a Hitachi G1000

I know this board is specifically for the XDA, but I was hoping you guys would be able to help me out. I own a Hitachi G1000 which is a PocketPC Phone Edition device that runs on Sprint PCS's CDMA network. I am wanting to upgrade it to 2003, but Hitachi and Sprint claim that they will never issue such an upgrade. I was hoping to use the 2003 ROMs that were released to upgrade the XDA, but I am concerned that it would not be compatable with the G1000 because of the CDMA radio, the camera built into the phone, and the hardware keyboard. What would I need to do to build a ROM that brings the Sprint utilitys and G1000 specific drivers into the new 2003 system, or is it even possible without assistance from Hitachi?
I think it would be very hard. most of the core part of the os
is very customized by HTC. I guess the same would hold for the g1000.
however, it would be possible to modify the romkitch/mkrom tools to create extended roms, based on your current rom version.
if these specs are correct
http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/articles.php?action=expand,18795&start=1
then it's not going to happen
because of the whole
32MB Flash EEPROM (Note: OS is not upgradeable or reflashable)
Darn it. I also have a Hitachi G1000, and was hoping to use the ROM upgrades. Not to PPC2003, but rather just the enhancements for PPC2002. I have read many places that the ROM is EPROM, but this article does make me wonder.
Checked Hitachi, it's EEPROM, darn it, darn it, darn it. Looks more and more like they weren't sure if the thing would sell, or even take in the market. Some of the things/specs seem quite a bit short sighted on Hitachi's and Sprint's part. I love the device, but as I look to upgrade, or expand it's abilities, I become more and more dissappointed.
I feel your pain
The lack of expansion and upgrade options for the Sprint System is why I am getting rid of them and Getting an XDA. I really liked my 2032sp but I wanted a bit more. I have gotten an XDA and upgraded it to 128mb of Ram, an 1800 Battery and I can use it on any GSM Network. Good luck in seeking upgrade paths.
Yeah, I'm not a big GSM/GPRS fan. I can atleast get bursts of 80-100k on the 1xRTT, Sprint uses. Went with the Hitachi for the faster proc and keyboard, too. Probably just have to wait for the next gen of them.

Is the LTE chip in this phone faster than TBOLT?

Or same generation? My LTE speeds seems all over the chart sometimes on the tbolt, never consistent etc.
Thanks.
Im curious myself....i have a revolution and my wife a tbolt, and both are shotty at best....

Same generation chip. New LTE chips aren't due until 2012. However, the implementation of the chip itself does depend going from manufacturer to manufacturer, as well as the processor they're working with. I get fine speeds on my Bionic.

Good to know I'm not the only one that has noticed this. I stopped by Verizon earlier to take a look at their demo Bionic. The thing consistently got between 3-5 Mbps down more than the Thunderbolt running the latest leaked Gingerbread radio, and roughly 1 Mbps upload faster. Like I said, this was consistent test after test after test. I must have done 20 tests in the store with my Thunderbolt next to the Bionic, starting the tests at the exact same moment. There is definitely something different in the Bionic's favor.
My money is on the processor making the difference. The dual core is probably a better balance with the 4g.

Speedtest.net app does not give accurate speeds IMO. Try http://www.mobilespeedtest.com , the 5MB or 7MB test gives more realistic numbers.

They fixed that a little while after the Thunderbolt came out, 17/10 seems like reasonable speeds to me.

Not talking about the upload bug necessarily.
The standard deviation between several measurements of two phones tested side by side at the same time and with the same radios make me suspicious of speedtest.com as well.

For the record, my side by side tests used the Speakeasy.net test and the Xtreme Labs Speed Test app. I don't use the Speedtest app. The servers they let run the speed tests are absolutely terrible.

Because it is a list of current phones that will be upgraded. The D3 is a current phone that is not listed, which means it will most likely not be getting an upgrade. However, no one knows for sure
I'm not sure it indicates anything. The D3 isn't listed in the list below either where all of the other phones are.

This was my thought.. that top banner of text seems as more of a teaser for those who just purchased their bionic and razr to silence the people worried if their recently purchased phone is going to receive android 4.0.
The Droid 3 isn't listed on the page at all and obviously it exists.. so I don't think that upgrade page means a thing. I would assume those would just be the first to get it then other phones that are capable would have 4.0 implemented. Since the D3 is so similar, I doubt the bionic will receive 4.0 without the D3 being considered..
http://phandroid.com/2011/10/24/mot...-release-beginning-with-razr-bionic-and-xoom/
A few sites(check google) say that these lists are just motorola confirming which phones will get ics over the next few weels starting with the razr, bionic and xoom.

Has anyone noticed that only verizon moto phones are listed? That cannot be a complete list, what about the photon? The atrix 2? I highly doubt this is a complete list of devices that can be upgraded. This is just for hype, companies like to do this so people buy their phones for the upgrade. If this is the complete list, our beloved Droid 3 has booted ICS already so there is no need to worry.
I'm probably going to thoroughly ***** a verizon rep out. I'm not big on ICS to be honest but the fact that they dropped this, then like 10 other phones in the few months following is terrible business practicing. My phone shouldn't be obsolete in 2 weeks.
I may just drop Verizon and goto Sprint while it's still got unlimited data. Tho that would probably leave me with $600 in termination fees. Good thing I got credit growing from things bigger than Verizon?
Page obviously needs an update on all the new phones, looks like it's 6+ months out of date so it has no real relevant information for new phones at all.
We will more then likely get ICS.
-smc
That's technology. You don't wanna be outdated get an iPhone. With the overclocks, custom ROMs, Hash working on ICS, and everything, why wouldn't our phone keep up? I mean it's got the hardware to be current for a while minus 4G.

The DROID 4 is upon us whether we are ready for it or not. The first pictures of it popped up a few weeks ago followed by signs pointing to it arriving on December 8. We also got confirmation that training has started for some Verizon shops, along with this set of official specs. Who knew we would see it so soon?
The D4 will have a 4″ screen (LCD or AMOLED?), 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, DROID RAZR styling, 5-row slideout keyboard, 4G LTE, front camera for video chatting and an 8MP rear camera. This could be the DROID that many of you have been waiting for. The Stratosphere had LTE and a keyboard, but this phone has top of the line specs to go with them.
On a related note, thoughts on the tool needed to remove the back cover? It doesn’t have a removable battery, but the cover can be removed using that circular tool pictured above, so that you can insert a SIM and SD card.
Source: http://www.droid-life.com/2011/11/2...nitely-a-big-razr-with-a-keyboard-and-4g-lte/
This is what the droid 3 should have been in the first place...Instead of opting for one standout phone though, Motorola decided to make 2 behind the curve phones in the time span of two months. They should give Droid 3 owners some kind of upgrade deal or something, that's just crazy.
edit: Did they get rid of the lip? If so, now I'm really upset, I always hated that lip at the bottom.
I strongly agree with you. The Droid 4 seems like the phone I've been waiting for the whole time. I'm quite sure Moto released the D3 with less superior hardware solely as a marketing strategy.
Too bad the battery's no longer swappable (with the exception of removing some additional covers)
I just got the droid 3 after tons of problems with the D2G. I must say, for not having paid for the phone, I'd be willing to pay for this D4. BUT, not being able to install an extended battery is a major dis. Sure the 1785mAh that this has is bigger then the 1500 the we have...but its still smaller than the 1950 the extended has. Who care how fast your phone is if its dead...

Finally-- The tablet that I wanted!

I loved my SM-T800, but the kind of love where you're willing to overlook little faults here and there (the small amounts of lag that people notice while others don't).
I switched over to the LTE version from Verizon a few days ago-- with the Snapdragon 800 SOC.
Lag is completely gone-- even in touchwiz (no I didn't sick with touchwiz, just wanted to confirm). Tapped Out plays perfectly. LTE reception is great. Scrolling through everything is so smooth!
$600 is expensive for any tablet; but through some lucky breaks, I paid around $350 for my non-LTE version, not including a free book cover that Best Buy threw in. I ended up selling the tablet for about $430, and I kept the cover! So net $530 for the LTE tab and cover.
If you're on the fence about this device because of some of the comments on here, I can tell you most of the complaints are rectified in the Sprint/ Verizon version.
My experience exactly. Had the Wifi 10.5, and it sucked, frankly. The Verizon LTE version is awesome.
Yeah that's what I was afraid of. They really gave the wifi version the shaft with their horrible exynos experiment.
I have a Galaxy S5 with the snapdragon and it's blazing fast, while my wifi Tab S is laggy and slow as hell.
No surprise there, Exynos lags behind the Snapdragon variant as usual. No pun intended.
Sure it has snapdragon?
Most likely improvements are just because of some software update.
i have been waiting for the Verizon version for some time and got excited when i saw it available BUT then sad when i saw it was only the 16GB version which doesnt work for me. also didnt want white but could deal with that. hoping maybe a 32GB version at some point but doubtful

I purchased the wifi 16. Returned it for the 32. Got refunded for that one and purchased the Sprint version with snapdragon. It just seems to be smoother and faster than the previous wifi only tabs. Both of my wifi units just did weird things. Ex., I would press the home key and it would send me off to google or some place unknown to my home screen. If I kept pressing the home button I would eventually get there, never did figure that one out. My other ones lagged every now and then but this didn't really bother me, I'm a patient man. I just wanted mobile data, however infrequently I will use it, but I'm glad it is there.
As stated many times, the Exynos SOC is really really bad.
long story short, who ever has the opportunitiy of buying Verizon Tab S Snapdragon 800 should go towards that direction and not the Exynos one...thanks guys i was thinking of buying with Exynos in Europe but i see that it has problems, weird is that sites seem to bypass those problems rather easily

Any evidence?
Most likely it is just software issue.
Anyway, I don't see any lag on my T705 Exynos tab.
