Tablet Talk is an application for text messaging (SMS) on tablets. It requires that the tablet be connected to an Android phone also running Tablet Talk. When a message is received on the phone, it is forwarded to the tablet. When a message is sent from the tablet, it is forwarded to the phone. The tablet and phone can be connected either via Bluetooth or a Wifi network. Tablet Talk also syncs messages you send and receive on your phone while not connected--when you connect, such messages will sync to the tablet. It has too many additional features to list, including caller ID notifications. Currently, you can mute or ignore incoming calls from the tablet, with more to come.
As of September 6th, Tablet Talk v1.0.0 has been published to the Android Market. However, the hope is that this thread will remain an active place for leaving feedback, requesting features, and releasing test versions with experimental features. As always, all suggestions and feedback are highly appreciated. If you have any questions feel free to ask here or via PM or email. Thanks for looking!
When posting issues, please include the following:
-Tablet: model/OS version and ROM (if not stock)
-Phone: model/OS version and ROM (if not stock)
-If the problem is with Bluetooth, Wifi, or both
Wifi mode: I recommend only using Wifi on trusted, secured networks--e.g. your home network
-------------------
Known issues:
-Not receiving messages? (One of the most emailed and reported "issues":) Are you using a third party SMS app on your phone such as GoSMS or Handcent? If so, please see the FAQ of Tablet Talk's help section for detailed instructions on fixing this problem. It requires a simple and quick change to your third party SMS app's settings. For example:
Handcent: Settings->Application Settings->Default Messaging application: set to "Disable".
Go SMS: Settings->Receive Settings->Disable other message notification: uncheck
After configuring the third party app, please open the Android SMS app that came on your phone. Go into its settings and disable notifications. This step is to prevent double notifications for incoming messages.
-MIUI ROMs: Make sure to allow the app permission to send SMS, otherwise it will crash on the phone whenever you try to send messages. New: disable "System MMS app priority" in MIUI's SMS app, otherwise it will block other SMS apps such as Tablet Talk or Go SMS.
-Infinite DHCP lease time: experiencing seemingly random and/or frequent disconnections when using Wifi? Please see Issue 20461 and Issue 18648 for more information. Huge thanks to Jon for this information!! This may explain some unresolved Wifi connection problems.
-Custom ROMs/kernels: If you experience frequent disconnections with Bluetooth and/or Wifi and are not using stock firmware on your phone and/or tablet, please try a different ROM or stock firmware. There have been numerous cases where users switched to a new ROM and disconnections ceased. If you do not want to deal with the hassle of switching ROMs then just email or PM me and I will take care of you no problem!
-Battery apps: numerous users have found that apps such as Juice Defender or CPU Tuner cause Tablet Talk to disconnect.

Acer A500 running Honeyvillain 1.05a which is based on Acer's 3.1 release.
Nexus One running Cyanogenmod 7.1 RC1, 2.3.4.
As a daily use, I would do bluetooth. But, both worked for me (wifi disconnects randomly on my phone, so it is less preferential).
Any way to interact with the phone's notification system so that it stops the ringtone when the message is read on the tablet?
LG Optimus Pad 3.0.1 rooted
Motorola Atrix 2.3.4 running cherry pie
Bluetooth working great!
now if it could also have a caller id pop up like the Playbook, it would really be over the top cool!

Thank you for the feedback. When the phone disconnected, would the tablet always detect it and change to disconnected?
I am looking for a way to disable incoming text notifications on the phone without risking messages not being saved in the default SMS application inbox.

Using Acer with the epic 4g all running stock. Epic on eg22. Working great so far. Minor thing. Number has to be in 123-123-1234 or 1234567890. I have it connected via Bluetooth.

Thanks! Is there a number format you were trying to use in "Compose new message" that it said was invalid? The way it is supposed to work now: it ignores any dashes, and allows any length numbers that may or may not be preceded by a +. Hence "123", "+1234", "23423234", etc are allowed.
Can the icon in status bar be hidden?
Some numbers are in (123) 123-4567 format.

Quick update: by default, incoming call notifications are shown on the tablet. In the future there will be more options to control the sound and vibration for such notifications. If there is interest, conversation threads will also include call logs for received calls.

My only concern is the inability of the user to know if Tablet Talk is running in the background and if so, what exactly it is doing. I will think about this more, however.

Aaron,
This has the potential to be something HUGE. Imagine all the people who've purchased

You can delete single messages and conversations by long pressing on them, but I will add an option in settings to clear everything at once.
The long press not working for me. The SMS are being saved on the phone side.
Great work so far.
Wow, this is working great over wifi. What a great app! I do think the UI could use a coat of pretty, but I'm guessing the dev efforts have been focused on functionality initially. It didn't seem to auto reconnect on the tablet (transformer, stock 3.2, rooted) after a phone call. Did I just not give it enough time, or is reconnect not yet supported?
Update (8.10.2011):
-added options for the phone call notifications
-fixed multipart text messaging bug (sorry to those of you who were experiencing FC's!)
-added long press menu for phone
-various fixes/tweaks

"coat of pretty" is my new favorite expression.
The phone automatically tries to reconnect so that you do not have to get up and find it if it's on the other side of the house. Originally the Tablet also automatically attempted to reconnect, but I removed it and forgot to add it back. It will be back in the next update along with options to control its behavior.
Is it disconnecting every time you receive a phone call? It should not be doing this. Is anyone else experience this problem?
Delete messages fixed.
Maybe a future feature to be able to answer the phone thru the tablet would be cool.
If a contact has more than one mobile number I can only choose one.

Thanks! Is the WiFi network your home's or work's? The WiFi mode will not work on all networks due to individual network settings. If it's your own home network, check to see if the default port is open.

I was looking for a place, how to tell the LG guys, what do I expect from my LG P990. Did not find a way - so here is a thread with hope, somebody from LG will read and ... consider - at least.
Starting wishes from me:
1. DIFFERENT NOTIFICATION SOUNDS SIMULTANEOUSLY - one for SMS, another sound for MMS a third one for e-mail - with possibility to customize sounds for every e-mail account and all individual events ,which are anounced by a single notification sound now.
! Because now, when I hear a notification sound, I do not know, whether is it SMS, or is it e-mail, or the device just established connection.... a little uncomfortable to stop a car on highway to check if there is an urgent SMS finding a standard e-mail, which can be handled tomorrow in an office....
2. possibility to make SILENT MOVIE CAMERA BUTTON - so it will be not a shame while taking a short memories from valuable moments using this great phone, BUT without pulling all surrounding attention onto me/my phone.... just imagine to use it in church, or at cemetery during a ceremony....
You can set up different notification sounds for Email and SMS (don't know about MMS since MMS is nonsense IMHO and I don't use it.) already.
With Mail Programs like K9 you can even set up different Notification sounds for your multiple Email addresses.
You have to simply enter settings in the SMS and/or Email apps.
EDIT
There are "silent camcorder"-setups setups in custom ROMS here on this board.
I'd like a working phone without the reboots and battery pulls. Thats enough for me at this point.

I felt there was a need for an updated rom dedicated to the Optimus T (USA). I could not find a proper rom with both Wifi Calling and fully-functioning MMS.
Thus, RevOidOptT was born.
Wifi Calling works beautifully and full-size MMS can be sent/received. Also, I incorporated google setup on first boot and edited build.prop to fix locale, currency, and date/time issues.
This is based off Neojn's devoid froyo final and most of the credit goes to him. Thanks, Neojn!
Thanks to blueren for theme and franco for kernel!
IMPORTANT NOTES:
-I am not responsible for bricked devices or any other issues associated with flashing this rom.
-STOCK MMS HAS BEEN REPLACED WITH GO SMS PRO IN ORDER TO FIX MMS SIZING ISSUES ON THE T-MOBILE USA NETWORK. IN ORDER TO SEND/RECEIVE MESSAGES, TAKE THE FOLLOWING STEPS:
1. OPEN GOSMS, HIT MENU BUTTON AND GO TO SETTINGS. THEN, GO TO IMPORTANT TIPS AND SELECT 'Stock SMS uninstalled?'
2. GO BACK TO SETTINGS, SELECT MMS SETTINGS AND SELECT 'Preserve image resolution'
This should give you fully-functional, full-sized MMS. Joy! Joy! Joy!
ALSO, All other messaging apps work with GO SMS installed, regardless of whether stock MMS is present. So feel free to use any messaging app you'd like. (Just be sure the steps above have been taken)
ROM SPECS:
Kernel:
franco.Kernel.v18.1-cfs (Clocked at 600/245 smartass by default. I suggest switching to 748/320 interactivex for optimal speed/battery combination)
Added apps:
noFrills CPU
BatteryCalibration (run after flashing ROM and fully charging phone to optimize battery life)
Added essential sapps
Wifi Calling
Calculator
Calendar
Browser
Carhome
Quick search
Youtube
Clock
Livewallpapers
Music
Movie player
Replaced apps:
LG Keyboard to GB Keyboard
Stock Gallery to Quickpic (much cleaner/faster)
Stock MMS to GO SMS Pro (see important notes above)
Zeam Launcher to LauncherPro
FileManager to FileExpert (very excellent substitute for those that want root access without paying for Root Explorer)
Theme:
SuperBlue Theme v5 (changed boot animation to android particles and removed wallpaper)
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Download RevOidOptT
2. Do NAND backup (not required but HIGHLY recommended)
3. Wipe everything (data, cache, dalvik cache, battery stats, etc.)
4. Flash RevOidOptT
5. Reboot
6. After going through setup, it will force close, just keep going (only a first-time setup bug)
7. Follow instructions above regarding GO SMS Pro settings
8. May have to clear Market cache in order to get apps to show up in 'My apps"
9. Enjoy

General rule is: It's fine as long as you give credit to the people who did any work that you are using. Kernels, roms, apps, scripts etc, if someone else put their time and effort into it, you should credit + thank them, ideally with a link to where it came from.

Question: did you make any adjustments to avoid the phone defaulting to british currency and location? It may be the franco.devoid that I am running, but I would imagine all versions are the same in that respect. Morelocale2 app fixes this, but I would still like to find a code/setting fix.

Love the rom, wifi calling working great. Thanks!
I love ICS. There are too many things that make it easier to use than GB, but the one thing that is making me want to change back is the lack of a reliable voice control app.
My favorite for GB was Choice Dialer Plus, especially because it was mostly accurate and did not need a data connection. If there was an ICS app like this I haven't found it.
Vlingo and it's offshoot, voice talk, are pretty good, but still not as reliable or usable as CDP was on GB.
What's your choice of app for this need?
Basic needs I consider valuable for voice control:
-dial like choicedialerplus, without using data connection
-bluetooth initiated
-dial numbers
-voice confirm
- no screen touch needed to select
-send texts
-open apps
-find local places
-start navigate
TRIED:
Vlingo-****

bad-complex
VoicetoGo-****

bad-have to choose from list
AIVC-****

Yes, that one's pretty good. I couldn't get it to work with my BT, though and when I asked the developer was told it was coming in the future. I'd also like to see one of these apps that doesn't take up the screen when activated so I could read info while speaking or waiting for a result.
I really am surprised that ICS doesn't have more compatible alternatives for this as it is definitely the way forward and ios has gotten a great head start.
SpeaktoIt! I love my Sam! Made him look just like someone I know and he is very amusing, I think that is the only voice assistant app that actually has potential. What it needs is BT and more direct controls with less involvement, for example, I want it to send texts messages just by saying the name of the recipient, the text and that's it, otherwise it defeats the purpose of voice control. Other than that I found it to be very accurate, even with my accent. I also prefer the avatar interface to just generic exchange.
Some of Sam's sayings:
- Sam, I think you are hot
- You are not so bad yourself, boss
- How about we have sex?
- Lets keep it professional, boss
Aww, bless his little electronic heart. My mom got offended on his behalf when I got frustrated and told him to shut the hell up. She thought I am being rude!!!! Hahahaha.
not sure why they don't have BT avaialbility on such a good piece of work.

Hi guys. Im one of the devs who make RCB and CM. We recently released an update that was supposed to fix issues blocking and otherwise managing calls on the newer xperia phones.
However im getting conflicting feedback. Please be so kind as to download the apps and test their blocking functionality by doing the following:
1. Add another mobile number to a blocking list
2. Call yourself from that number, write down result
3. SMS yourself from that number, write down result
Post here or find the settings item (its the same in both apps) that says "Write to us" and send logs with a description like "XDA XPERIA TEST". Be sure to say what actually happened.
We had to fix this issue using decompiled firmware so theres no guarantee. And of course theres some people saying it was fixed and some saying it wasnt. Some say that its been fixed in JB but is now broken in ICS, so mention what version of android youre running.
Call Master (completely free): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fahrbot.apps.blacklist
RCB (trial): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fahrbot.apps.rootcallblocker.beta
Thanks in advance!!!
I can only write the same as in call master thread, I have Xperia V, currently on JB 4.2.1, CM 10.1, both call master and rcb works for me without any problems, i do not have reflashed stock today, but yesterday call master was ok on LT25i_9.0.1.D.0.10 firmware
Can anyone else please confirm this?
Worked fine on Xperia V 9.0.1.D.0.10. Stock based ROM.
Added a number to the block list
Rang my phone from the blocked number.
Icon appeared and blocked the call successfully (there was a single hint of vibration)
Seems to work fine
Thanks, but I'm not up on the stock ROM builds.... Is that ICS or job?

It all depends on what kind of settings youre using. Also, it depends if youve recently been viewing logs but its not a lot. On my phone right now with about 30 managed contacts its using 18 MB. But actual use is probably 10 or so, depending on things like the size of your logs, the pages in the app you have recently opened and so on.
Remember, every activity you dont close will be cached by android, so if you for example keep entering the app then pressing home you will be adding a little. Do it 5 times and there will be a bit more. But this is cache, not memory use.
The automatic memory manager will flush caches if it needs more memory - if it has lots, apps will keep adding to the caches forever. Its unfortunate that many people have no idea how this works, they just assume that its a problem.
Works perfectly now thanks!
It is now fixed. Perfect app (root blocker).
I actually like Call Master more, its by the same devs. More granular you know...
It works always.
Rooted JB (489) / Xperia T here: CallMaster works flawlessly
I apology my poor english.
I bought 'Call Master' last year.
Phone model : IM-T100K
When i used Gingerbread it worked perfectly.
But after upgrade to ICS 4.0.4, sms blocked well, call does not blocked at all.
I had this for almost 24 hours and so far I love it. Just one thing that bugs me. It's the theme of the contacts, dialer, and messaging app. Why is white? When I was playing with the demo phone at best buy them 3 apps had a nice dark theme to them. I get home root the phone set it up and go to check out the contacts list I'm like wtf is this. Why Samsung why did you change the theme on them apps at gives us the option to pick dark or light. Well let's some of your complaints. A new phone is not complete without complaints.
I love the 90s. Good times.
You can change the text messaging app theme too dark. It's in the settings within that app. It would be nice to also change the contacts app, but I don't believe you can.

See when I was at best buy yesterday playing with the demo phone. The contacts and dialer was dark. I think sprint may have changed the theme I could be wrong. I noticed when I first turned on the phone it had the Samsung default boot up animation. Than the phone did a software update than rebooted with the sprint boot up. So maybe that could of changed the them. That I don't know. But I really don't care for the light theme

I hate that text flow is missing from the browser and that the buddy pages that were part of the Note 2 are missing from the S4. It is funny how you would think some standard features would follow through to the next versions of flagship devices.
I also think there is a bug in the stock email client on how many spam mails you can flag. This is annoying as well.

Yeah I noticed that too... Lets try to keep this thread going maybe some of the developers will see these issues and address once they are ready to start cooking up some roms and mods
I'm coming from the EVO 4G running MikRom, so some of my gripes may be common differences between HTC and Samsung, or they may be things I got used to by running a custom ROM. Speaking of cutom ROMs, I know some of these issues will be resolved w/ a custom ROM.
Regardless, this is what I got so far...
- Inability to sort bookmarks by A-Z order in stock browser
- Hate that if you have the volume button programmed to take picture, there's no other way to activate the zoom function
- Not wild about how the clipboard (copy/cut/paste) menu works
- Wish I could disable the shutter sound on the camera
That's it for now...
The bottom half of my screen is pink, I will be attempting an exchange tonight
I wish the volume was a little louder. On the s3 I ran freegs3 rom by clark44 great mods especially the sound boost mod he included with aroma installer. I was spoiled by the loud speaker. Where the hell is the Galaxy suite in this phone? This phone could definitely use a mean update.

Haven't had much time to actually use the phone yet but here are two that I know of.
1. Pinch to zoom
2. If you are rooted navigate to /system/csc. Edit feature.xml. Set shuttersoundmenu to true and reboot. You will now see an option to turn it on and off from settings. You can do a lot with that file like enable camera while in a call.

I am not happy with the video playback on this phone. When the movie is dark, the screen gets pixelated and the video looks terrible. Only happens when there is a lot of black in the video.
EDIT - I have quickly found the fix to that issue. I had to go to display options on the phone and set the screen mode to Movie.
i wish they stuck with roman numerals...
Galaxy S IV > Galaxy S 4

Thanks posting this

Just 2 on my end. Other than these, I couldn't be much happier.
1: The wifi problems I'm having where it drops the connection, then re-connects every minute or two. Sometimes it doesn't actually drop it, but it won't pass data through. Does it at home and at work, so I'm fairly sure it's phone related. If it keeps up, I may be exchanging it.
2: It doesn't send my contacts to the bluetooth system in my car. This one is pretty minor, so as long as it gets fixed at some point in the future, I'll be ok with it.
Very slow download speeds from the play store almost an hour just to download a app that's only 3 mb

I had that the first day I had my phone but only happened when updating one app, the rest updated fine and quickly. After a few hours went again and updated as fast as it should have first.
The svdo capability was only available in the s4 krait chip set. Snapdragon600 doesn't support 3g data while on a call. You do have svLTE, though.

That don't make any sense. Why would Samsung do that? My s3 had that feature and I loved it. What a load of bs
