[GUIDE] Partitioning your SD Card to use swap and or lin2sd :)

There is probably a guide for this already, but if there is, it is deep, deep down
What we will need:
Some way to connect the SD Card to the PC (using the phone USB with storage mode on is fine)
Minitool partition wizard - http://partitionwizard.com - the home edition is fine for this.
The steps:
Connect the SD card to the computer
Launch minitool

Select your SD Card MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT SELECT YOUR HARD DRIVE!
On the left, there will be an option to Resize the drive. Select this and resize as necessary (If you have a 6GB drive, and want a 1GB ext2, resize it to 5GB).
Do the same again for a swap partition.
Check the operations on the left bar, to make sure you are happy with them and click 'Apply'.
Wait for it to complete. DONE! Eject you sdcard, and put it back into your phone. You can now download an app like link2sd to use it, or use swap
NOTE: I am in no way responsible if your data goes missing!
NOTE2: Not all ROM's have swap support. Most (if not all) CM rom's now do, however, you may need the 07swapon script. Please check my post to get that

I think you or anyone could make a tutorial about how to build up a system (not a kernel, but just a e.g. cm7, cm9, aokp, aosp), in order to make our developer thread much more colorful. Just an idea...

To build from source it builds both system and kernel...

OK, then both, I think it doesn't mean much...

There are many guides out there but for gt540 its slightly different.

This is the reason I requested this type of guide...

So how is link2sd and clockwormod recovery backup?
When I have ext2/3/4 secondary partition and create backup, than do files and linked stuff go to sd-ext? After restore will there be working linking during boot? And what happens when the secondary partition is fat32?

When you backup with CWM, as long as the ROM you are using mounts the /sd-ext.
When the backup file is made, the sd-ext file contains all the symlinks, so yes, backups work (I have made it loads of times).

Information​This is a script to increase your internal memory from 420mb to 1gb/2gb/3gb/4gb!!
This is script is only for ICS users. If you want this mod/script for JB/GB then search in Dev section.
Installation Instructions:​
create a ext4 partition [ If you dont know how to then see at the bottom of this post in important notes ]
Put this mod in your sd card
Make sure your ext partition is empty
Flash the zip
Reboot and enjoy
If you lose your network or get force closes of many apps then see at the bottom of this post in important notes
Tested and working Roms and kernels:

How to create a ext4 partion of sd card:​
you are on icd or using a ics rom like uhd
switch of your phone
flash doomkernel ics
boot up your phone into recovery not into system
go to advanced
go to partition sd card [ caustion this will format your sd card make back up ]
choose ext4
choose any swap size
then confirm
choose the size also any size
confirm and wait for 5-10 min
and you are done
then power off your phone
and flash any ics kernel you like

Installation Notes:​1. Please use ext 4 partion and you can use any swap size.
2. Before Flashing the zip , please see that your ext4 partition should be empty.
3. If you lose your mobile data or network or get many force closes then reboot your device and flash wifi modules of kernel.After 3-4 reboots the script is stable and will work perfectly

if u create ext4 part usin cwm, yes. u ll lose all data on sd. so u need backup. but with gparted or for windows users, minitool partition tool, u can keep them. any case, u should backup.
Also after flash the script, probably u have to wipe data/factory reset.

Whats the best EXT-4 partition on SD-Card, 1GB, 1.5GB or 2GB?
Its accdg to Zohaib thats why those are my choices. Is 4GB also ok?

If you have:
2gb memory card - 256 mb
4gb memory card - 512mb
8gb memory card - 1gb
16gb memory card - 2gb
32gb memory card - 4gb
This is recommended but you can use any size

I'm on stock rooted jellybean and I don't remember what I did "I'm flashing addons all the time" !

I checked space on task manager and I found this
system storage 671mb/1.97gb
usb storage 6.95gb/11.07gb
sd card 11.77gb/14.83gb
any help here ?

you may need to clear some system apps.. use TB and go to the overview tab and check the space in System ROM partition

I got this message everytime I boot my phone not when trying to flash zips

then there could be some app that display this message when you boot the phone,,

I've already googled .. not solution !
and the mobile is fast no lag no freezes .. everything is OK except for this annoying msg every start up ..

Ok wipe your dalvick cache and reboot.
Use an app called "clean master"too.
I had this problem. I've tagged this thread so put what happened when you do the above.

EDIT 1 : I thought it came from changing touch sounds .. and NO .. this is not the problem !
EDIT 2 : I thought It's from whatsapp+ .. and NO ,, the problem still exists ..
It now comes randomly not every startup

flashed stock rom :/

Dumpstate issue
I got this crap in my N7000
in my case, solved by:
*#9900#
Delete dumpstate/logcat, confirm, go down and press Exit.
My problem was solved.
Sometimes, once per month, I must do it again...

Well I fixed it with another way. I simply went at the storage options and I changed it to install all the new apps at the sd card. After that it only showed it one more time and then it was gone.

HELP! on swapper 2 and sd card partioning

Hi guys, I need an answer right away since im deciding right now what to do, im using gingerdx vO31b shakira with alfsv9 kernel using stock 2gigz sd card .. i was just wondering, do i really need to partition my sd card before i can use swapper 2? or i could just use swapper 2 without partitioning my sd? im thankful! :laugh:

if i decided not to partion my sd will swap work? im still reading some guides but its all diff from the other..:crying:

i haven't used swapper, but if you're going to use a swap file, you don't need a swap partition.

The message shows ext partition is supported & you don't have ext partition ...
About swap, if you're noob use other apps to create swap file(instead of partition)(apps like ram expander {not sure about the name}
Creating swap file with Swapper needs a lot of hard work, so forget it
#set swappiness to 40 or 60 for gaming otherwise 10 - 20 is enough

All apps are same, swap quality depends on SD card...

I am using "Android 4.3 For Ace Beta 1" on my galaxy ace[s5830].before this i were run it on 'TheUltimatum(V2.9)[-The'A'Factor]'
which was a wery good rom for my ace,the most amazing feature was the inbuild sd card swapiing[swap all kernel]
now when i changed my rom to cm10.2 i cant to swap my sd card
please some one help me...... as u all no galaxy ace is suffering from internal memory

My brother why are you confused first you are saying that you want to increase your internal memory then you are talking about swapping both these things are different in swapping you increasing your ram by utilising your sd card and it is very dangerous for your sd card my one 16 gb card died in this process if you want to increase internal memory go for cromod or link 2 sd script i think i helped you

google cronmod and you'll find the script on xda. you can find link2sd on the play store

No problem if you think finding and installing cromod is cumbersome just install link2sd from playstore and do one more think
