I watching the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=66-4uMQqerA
and I noticed that Nexus 4 looks seriously thick.. So I googled and well
133.9 x 68.70 x 9.10 mm LG Nexus 4
135.5 x 67.94 x 8.94 mm Galaxy Nexus
134.4 x 69.90 x 8.90 mm HTC One X
136.6 x 70.60 x 8.60 mm Galaxy S 3
128.8 x 58.60 x 7.60 mm iPhone 5
Seriously what were they thinking? I already find my Galaxy Nexus so thick .. this device will feel like holding a Nokia N95 or something. I was really looking forward to this one. I mean amazing phone and price ... but this seriously makes me stop and think about it again.
I think making the phone thinner is important.
What do you guys think?
Are you sure you're going to notice 0.16 mm extra thickness?
If you think this device is thick check thickness and weight of nokia lumia 920
I told you I already feel the Galaxy Nexus is thick. I was looking forward for the next nexus becoming thinner.. 8.94 is not exactly a good thickness already

As a htc one x owner (0.04 difference) I think htc one x is very slim. Maybe its about me because after using nokia n95(+20mm) every phone feels slim to me
Then don't get it.
The added thickness is due to the integrated inductive coil for wireless charging. The Galaxy Nexus was 8.94mm with a 1750mah battery and lacked any kind of wireless charging. Are you telling me that 0.16mm is more important to you than a bigger, 2100mah battery and the ability to wirelessly charge? Seriously, when did 9.1mm become "too" thick?
Not to mention the back is also covered in Gorilla Glass.
9.10 mm thick?? With those extra 0.16 mm I could stick an ace of spades playing card on the back of my Nexus!
Oh wait, that's right, a card is 0.273mm... I suppose adding 58% of a playing card isn't all that much. Chill out man.
While I totally agree complaining about 9.1 mm is more than asinine, it is curious that this is thicker than the Optimus G. I imagine wireless charging probably is to blame.

I think you need more to worry about...
Figures are meaningless untill you feel the real thing in hand.
The S3 is wider than the 1X on paper, but easier fits in my tiny hands.
The 8X is thicker than most smartphone flagships on paper, but feels much better than most of them in hand because of its curling edges...
GOOD!
I bought the extended battery for the Gnex and it feels so much better than with the small one. Adds a little bit weight and makes the back a bit rounder.
If the new one is like this from the beginning then even better.
<insert obligatory "that's what she said" here>

There is no doubt that it is the wireless charging that is the reason for the increase in thickness. It is also partly the reason the Lumia 920 is also thicker at 10.7mm. The dazzling crystalline effect and wireless charging more than make up for the change in 8.45mm vs 9.1mm from the Optimus G to the Nexus 4.

Screen Size
Anyone was able to find the leaked PDF? I'm wondering if the screen size of 4.7 includes the touchscreen buttons. I really want to get this phone but if the three touchscreen buttons are part of the 4.7, that means this is a small display size.

Well even though I wasn't too impressed with the GS3 from what I had seen I got caught up in the hype as it neared launch and ended up buying one. My battery cover didn't snap correctly and overall build quality was not impressive, so now I got the ATRIX HD.
Reasons I prefer the ATRIX HD..
-Build Quality and materials are far superior to the samsung (Gorilla Glass, Kevlar backing, metal buttons etc. it just feels put together so much better than my gs3)
-Design is more appealing (the oval blasé design of gs3 left much to be desired & I think the razor-esque design of the ATRIX HD with the more rounded corners is really nice. From the titanium bezel in the front to the all black casing that surrounds the Kevlar backing this thing just looks sweet!)
-On Screen Nav Buttons (I've always thought it was a mistake manufacturer's never adopted the futuristic buttonless design of the Gnex)
-Hot Swappable Micro SD (Love the side loading approach to memory cards)
-Dedicated HDMI port (Finally got a HDTV so its gonna be cool not having to use the stupid mhl adapters)
-Skin is much closer to stock ICS than the heavily skinned touchwiz(or any manufacturer skin for that matter) in fact there is no more motoblur just a few tasteful customizations(still use apex for that stock look and feel!)
I know there are some tradeoffs going with the ATRIX as opposed to the GS3 but it just feels like an overall nicer phone to me. Wasnt really loving the Baby blue color or the flimsy battery cover on the gs3. I'm happy with my choice but either way I gotta say AT&T is killing the game right now between the ATRIX HD, GS3, One X, Lumia 900 etc. theres something for everyone. :good:
Great post. I have a GS3 with a few days left in my remorse period. I like the GS 3 just fine but it's a bit underwhelming. The screen is actually quite dim and I need to keep it on max brightness to enjoy it at all. However camera and battery life are superb.
What trade offs are there? Early reviews say the camera is pretty lame and battery life so so. Can you comment?

Thanks! Yes I had my GS3's brightness turned to 100% the whole time too so I know what you're talking about. The camera on the GS3 was good but still wasn't good as my old iphone 4s. Battery is one area you might take a hit because ATRIX HD has bout -200mah but considering the screen is 4.5" it should be comparable. Much happier with the ATRIX HD though it has way better design and build.
Love the post man. I too exchanged my GSIII for the ATRIX. I love it. The battery has taken a hit coming from the GSIII and for some reason I can't get my micro sim to actually stay in the slot but other than that its great!

well i had that problem too but for some reason its up side down i mean the circuit on sim should face up when u put your sim card in and have to use some pointed thing to press it in... i had to struggle a lot to get it in and is same for micro sd too!!! and by the way does your flap that cover the ports stays flush with the body of the phone coz mine is sticking out a little bit from the bottom

I just switched from my HTC one x to the ATRIX HD. I am loving this phone so far. It truly is a great device. I like the 4.5 display and love the display. Personally I like this display over my HTC One X.

For me this phone is perfect. I practically got it for free and its an improvement over my Atrix 2.
Although I do think the SGS3 is a superior phone, I just wish it didnt feel & look so cheap. Plus I didnt like the UI.
I didnt like the HTC One X at all.
My rating would go down if the phone would have costed more than $100
It blows away other phones at the same price.
I keep the Galaxy S III for one day and swapped for the HD. I left IPhone and Atrix 2 was my first android. I have never trusted Samsung phones and was leary when I left store with it. I just think Motorola is on par with Apple with build and quality. I know they are almost as locked down as Apple products. But like I've read here, "my android DID what YOUR iPhone can't". Love that quote.

Some of those Benchmarks are inaccurate because some of those tests cannot run the GPU correctly on the Snapdragon S4.
Finally got some hands on time with this phone. Love the UI and it's fast as others have said. 3 things kept me from trading my GS 3.
1. The screen is noticeably smaller than the GS 3. It starts off with smaller dimensions and then the always on screen buttons cut into usable display size. It felt cramped.
2. It felt quite cheap in hand and lacked the premium feel of the galaxy and HOX. Even though the galaxy is plastic it feels more sexy and solid.
3. As many have pointed out the camera simply fails to measure up to the HOX or galaxy. I took identical pictures with all 3 phones in the store and the atrix lacked detail and sharpness. All 3 were on auto.
It's a great value with the dock but its worth the extra 100 to step up.
I dont want to start an argument but how does this feel cheap? It to me feels loads better than the s3 and a little better than the 1x which was better than the s3 the s3 i returned within 24 hours. It was nice but didn't put me in any jaw dropping moments. Guess you prefer plastic feel.

The thinness and contours and blue color of the S3 give it a more solid and premium feel IMO. A little more weigh because of the large battery helps in this regard. This is admittedly subjective.

I compared the outdoor readability and general brightness comparing the s3 and hd side by side and the hd on easily. Of course the hd takes a battery hit bc the screen can get so bright. The only area screen wise that the s3 wins on is the darker blacks but I could care less about that. The hd is a very solid phone, i love it. Im gonna get pissed though if at&t releases an hd maxx with a bigger battery in time for Christmas.

Sadly, I was not impressed at all with the SGS III - too cheap feeling with a clear-coat that shows every fingerprint. Hardware-wise it's awesome, but design-wise I do not like it - maybe if it came in black or dark grey with a rubbery coating. I don't want a large, slick phone. For $150 less, I picked up the Atrix HD and I'm fairly happy with it so far, just hoping to find a way to improve battery life.

It's good that there is no headset because it means costs can be reduced. besides the headphones they include are normally bad so I feel it's for the best.
just awesome especially the design blasts the s3 plastic out
The headphones weren't that bad IMO if you just pushed the rubber part deeper into your ear (the way they should be )
On my GNex and my old S3 I got way more quality than I expected.
I don't care for no head phones, the phone looks 3x thicker in size than my S3 though...

Hello,
I have the Razr i and the lack of accessories is killing me. So can anyone tell me what other phones have the same dimensions as the 890? I have seen on here comments about the Razr M being the same, except for the camera button, but also that things won't fit as they have been designed for the M, suggesting sizes are different! So can anyone confirm what's for the M will or won't fit the i? In particular I look at the Otterbox cover for the M and think it'll do the job (bar the camera button cutout)
BTW, I've been on to Motorola UK back in November who assured me the accessories were 'imminent'.
Yeah right.....
The M has exactly the same shape as the I .
I do use the official M car dock with my Razr I and it fit perfectly.
Of course for a cover you'll have to cut a little bit if you want to keep an access to the camera button.

Hi,
I can confirm that the Razr M has the same dimensions as Razr I and equipment shaped for M also fits Razr I except the hole for camera button. But if you're looking for cases I must warn you that I've already bought two hard covers and neither of them fits perfectly. The obvious reason is that both RAZRs are wedge shaped and it's hard to hit such shape. Possible solution is in buying soft cases or more expensive ones.

That was my concern with the cheaper cases. I usuaulyl keep my phones for a couple of years at least, so a more expensicve case is fair enough, and as the Otterbox jobs are ~£30ish I'd expect a bloody good fit!
First of all, I love this phone. I love the battery life and the screen is gorgeous. I have the Ballistic Nylon Turbo with a few scratches and some fraying in the back. I'm deciding if I should sell my Turbo on Swappa for around $380-$400 and buy a brand new HTC One M8 for $340. I've always wanted the M8 because of its metal design and boomsound speakers but what worries me is the battery. I've heard the battery is not that great. What do you guys think? Should I go for it?

Well you cant really compare the battery life of each of these, but with the m8 i got a solid 19 hours on the device with 4-5 hours SOT
i got a m8 launch day...used it until turbo came out. My wife now uses the M8. Just got 5.0 update last night so I don't know if that improved or hindered battery life, but I was noticing traveling with her this past weekend. She got FAR worse battery life than me. Had to plug in multiple times during day....Granted used navi etc. so some fairly heavy use, but I definitely wouldn't downgrade if I were you.
When i used to use the device before turbo, I would make it through the day with one charge and my usage, but barely. With Turbo I think I have run it all the way down 4-5 times since launch...

Yea, if i decide to get the M8, I'll miss the battery life the most. One of the reasons I want to get a different phone is because there is a scratch in the middle of my screen that isn't really visible most of the time but can be seen when using the phone outdoors or when a light shines on it. Also the ballistic nylon in the back is fraying quite a bit near the droid logo and i tried to cut and burn it off but i just made it worse. Little stuff like that bothers me. If I get the M8, I plan to also get a screen protector for it and a skin or case on at all times.

Actually the new modification just requires you cut an aluminum cross bar and swap the battery cable. To make it fit the plastic shield also needs a little cut but it works properly compared to the old one which either broke features or cut the speaker.
Feel free to try it. I put a new standard one in last week and was looking at the phone out of the case for the first time in a year thinking I'd love the phone twice as thick with the extra space all battery. Phones don't need to be so darn thin at the cost of usability
