Gamepad with best support - Nexus 10 Accessories

Thinking about getting a Gamepad for my Nexus 10. Which is the best solution? Sixasis seems to be well known but do I need to setup every single game to work with this or are most games with Gamepad support working out of the box?
Another question is the root requirement. Since at the time only main user get root I assume the gamepad then are useless for all user except main user?
Maybe another gamepad solution is the better choice?

I love my nyko playpad. Works perfectly with the vast majority of games I've tried it with ( Dead Trigger, GTA 3, N64/SNES emulators, Need For Speed, Shadowgun, etc...). No root required either!
Just DON'T install or use their Playpad software. It made it so my playpad would no longer pair and I couldn't fix the problem until I did a factory reset. A quick Google search revealed that many Nexus 10 owners had the same problem.

SteelSeries is the nicest looking controller I've seen, Googling 'SteelSeries nexus 10' brought up an article about it and the reviews seem great. Kind of expensive though.

If you don't wanna spend any money you can download Bluetooth controller from the market and use a another android device as a controller assuming u own 1 of course

Got a PS3 controller laying around? Use the Sixaxis app in the market to pair it with your tablet. I've used a few different gamepads (bluetooth and OTG) and this is my favorite by far.

I would also like to know some more input on this. I have the sixaxis app and a ps3 controller that I used on my N7 when I had it. I will admit getting it to work with games like GTA3 or any other app that uses a touch input seems to be kind of a pain in the ass. I am looking for an easier solution one that doesn't require me to root or mess around with any on screen mappings or configurations. It seems like the gamepads from gamestop have software that sort of does that for you.
Does anybody know how well these work? I am american and I'm lazy as hell. If I can buy a solution for only 30 bucks and have it work for games like Shadowgun, GTA3, SNES etc without having to put too much effort beyond saying button 1 = jump etc then I would prefer that.
I would like to hear peoples opinions on this though. The reviews on gamestops website don't really offer to much and I just want a good solid, reliable easy to use controller that doesnt require me to root but if someone can point me out to a good easy to understand site to manipulate the ps3 controller and mappings I may take that into consideration. Otherwise any other reviews on controllers would be helpful as well.
edit* I also would like to not use a usb OTG cable. I'm looking strictly for bluetooth.

Read my post about the Nyko Playpad above. Any game with gamepad support (including the ones I listed) will work swimmingly with little to no effort.

Thanks for all the tips. Tried BT controller from play store. Did work good with emus but did not get any function in dead trigger.
Is gamepad just supposed to work in dead trigger because I didn't found any settings for configuring the gamepad.

I picked up the samurai controller from GameStop and it worked flawlessly with all the games. Synced right up to the n10 like a boss. Good build quality and has the option to act like a gamepad or a keyboard. Some games require one or the other.

Probably not your ideal solution, but I use a wired Xbox 360 controller along with USB/BT Joystick Center 6 and, if playing a touch-only game, I use Joy2Touch Server from the same developer and set up a profile. Yes, you do need to set it up with every different touch-only game. With emus, you only need to set up your desired button layout once.

I'm interested in this setup for playing Heroes of Order and Chaos. It uses a virtual d-pad on the screen. Could I make the gamepad work with it?

+1 for the PS3 controller + Sixaxis.
It will work without any setup (other than starting the Sixaxis app) for games that have native gamepad support. Games like these include GTA III/Vice City, Shadowgun, Virtua Tennis, Sonic CD, Riptide GP, etc.
For games that don't support the gamepad you have the option of creating a touch profile. It truly is very easy.
And for those that are super lazy, the website http://www.sixaxisofpower.com/ is a community with user submitted touch profiles for various games.

Sounds like the solution I am looking for. I need to buy the controller then
But one question which is quite crucial. Is it only main user with root who can use it or if it's installed in system maybe the needed files will be accessible by all users?
Oh one more.... The newer Dualshock are they Sixasis compatible or is it just the old ps3 controllers that are usable?

Yep, it's pretty easy to set it up for a game that uses a virtual D-Pad/buttons.

Hey guys, do you need a special cable to first connect the PS3 controller to the phone\tablet or will it work just by pairing them up over Bluetooth?
Cheers,
M

You will need a mini usb cable the first time to pair it. After that it will pair automatically.

PS3 controller has a mini USB port, but the Nexus 10 uses micro USB (there's a difference; micro is a bit smaller) :/ But if anything, a USB OTG cable is like $1 or so, just might take a while to get to you depending on where you order it from online, and retail stores would probably price it at $10 or something lol

Yes,
The mini USB connects to the controller, the other end of the cable will be a standard usb connector. You can connect it to the nexus 10 with an OTG adapter.
If you don't have the OTG connector, you can pair it through your pc using the sixaxis pair tool:
http://www.dancingpixelstudios.com/sixaxiscontroller/tool.html

You forgot to say u need root to use sixaxis

Pretty good game so far! Also recommend going with Sixaxis controller so you can use it to play a crap load easier! Also hooking it up to the big screen via hdmi and using the controller is kinda awesome!

I didn't think any gameloft games supported Bluetooth controllers, I tried a few a couple months back and they weren't compatible. I did find a controller called phone joy that's a dualshock knock off that supposedly let's you play any android game with it but it cost almost as much as a dualshock and has a long back order.
The sixaxis app can be set to emulate an actual screen touch. You can make a touch profile that has the X button on the controller register as a screen press to the specific area to fire. Pretty spiffy. Makes GTA3 fun as hell too! Does require root... But if you're on this site that's likely not an issue.

GTA 3 says it supports Bluetooth controllers such as the dualshock 3 and wiimote but it doesn't work with my dualshock 3. I'm using "sixaxis controller" from the market, it won't let me update though because it says I haven't purchased it yet even though I bought it about 3 months back right before I had my t bolt replaced with the bionic. Is there any other app that may work better (I know it worked just fine on the t bolt and should on the bionic but I'm not sure if is working correctly)
What are you using to remap the controls?
The new version/s of SixAxis have the ability to set touch profiles. The game has nothing to do with the compatibility.

Best gamepads for nexus 7?

I payed for and have found the sixaxis driver pretty good so far. some of the older emulators won't bind all buttons properly (droidemu for example wont bind all buttons for me, where Snes9x will......)
I have a logitech 710 here. I've seen people use the micro usb to otg/female usb adapter....
but, again - i worry about binding issues in games.
Mupen64 wont bind analog controls properly. mario runs full tilt or not at all. the right analog won't bind (which i map to the C buttons in PC emulators, for example).
Has anyone else had any luck, or any suggestions?
This is my first Android device. Interesting so far!

You've come up against the big problem with Android games/controllers, I don't think there's one controller that just works with everything. You end up having to buy multiple controllers or live with on screen controls. I guess it's a profit thing, if there was one standard architecture then sales of controllers would gravitate to the ones that are actually good, leaving loads of others with no sales.

I use my Gametel controller that I bought off of amazon. It lets you use it in a variety of ways. you can either map it to letters or use as a gamepad or even fake it as the xperia play's gamepad. some games don't respond to it properly like bard's tale or GTA

Yes.
I would call that a spammer.
So essentially, it goes down to the apps you are going to use it with.
What about emulation ?
Is there a gamepad out there that works on pretty much all platform emulators ?

Epic gaming controllers

so ive been doing a lot of research on all the different bluetooth controllers that are coming out...im thinking about getting one as well as an hdmi cable to use my d3 as a dedicated gaming console when im home. so i found these
phonejoy play- looks promising
http://www.phonejoy.us/
phonejoy analog- not as good as the hopeful concept above
http://www.phonejoy.us/shop/phonejoy-analog/
Ps3 controllers, wii. xbox 360, and onlive universal controller (i think this only works with the onlive app)
Great reviews for this one
www.powera.com/moga
So which one would all of you recommend getting? The first 2 mentioned support more than one controller for multiplayer through emulators. im a bit on the broke side and most of these are really pricey. do any of you know if the generic ps3 bluetooth controller works with the sixaxis app? also anymore of these that i missed?
I missed one, Green throttle, i believe this one also supports multiplayer
http://go.greenthrottle.com/products/
however this one wouldnt really work for me because im more of a QA than a Developer
Check sixaxis controller in the Play store. There is a free compatibility checker. If it works you can use a PS3 sixaxis controller to play games. The program itself costs around $ 1,50 ( 1,29 EURO for me). Small investment if you already have a PS3 controller lying around.
I take it there should be similar programs for Xbox/Wii.

Yeah xbox is only supported on 3.1+ and I'm still on gingerbreadand I unfortunately don't own a ps3
I wish I could use my vita, that would be pretty sick
Don't know which games you want to play but you could take a look at the 8-bitty. That one's $ 29.99. Some emulators support the 8-bitty. But I have no idea about support in "regular" games.
Mount
I believe there is a mount available that goes over the keyboard and just presses keys, which is cheap

There's at least one free app on Google Play that'll let you pair multiple Wii remotes. If you have a Classic controller w/ dual analog, or want to go head-to-head in MarioKart64, that might be a good option for you. They're also slim and easy to pack along, plus if the batteries die they're standard AA. A couple Wiimotes and a modded Lapdock and you've got a pretty good portable emulator console.

Game pads and our Note 2

I really couldn't figure out if this belongs here but here I go.
So, wanting a better gaming experience and not having a ps3 controller, I decided to get an otg adapter for my Logitech dual action pc controller. I did this because I noticed after playing around with a root explorer, that our phone had a file to support a Logitech controller.
Well, sure enough it worked......with shadow gun. I tried to get it to work with the dark knight rises but no luck. Tried the Joy2touch app to see if I could get my Logitech controller to work with any game, but couldn't get it set up. Might have been user error on my part, but can anyone attest that Joy2touch or some other app can get a random game controller like the Logitech dual action to work? Or maybe you guys have a better solution?

I got a PowerA MOGA for Christmas. Works pretty nice, I love it. Can be a pain to pair sometimes. Works with many big name games. Fun to use and it holds the phone. Kinda expensive but worth it, I would have bought it had I not received it http://www.powera.com/moga

Download Six Axis App app from the play store. Then go HERE. You'll get your ps3 to work with every game including emulators. It's pretty awesome actually.
Also visit XDA S3 Six Axis Profiles Happy Gaming!
ps - we share same resolution as the gs3 so the profiles for those work just fine with the note 2.

I think you missed the fact that he doesn't have a PS3 controller.
With your setup, you're going to need games that have native gamepad support, which shadowgun does. Madfingers is pretty good about adding it: their Samuri games don't. Rockstar has it on GTA3: I think GTAVC has it too.
I would see if you can pick up used, and hopefully not abused, PS3 sixaxis controller. You can probably get the non-dual shock version pretty cheap; it has not vibrate function. The Sixaxis Controller app makes it more robust because of being able to map touch controls, which is what profiles are. Not all games are can done profiled such as Dead Space.
Other controllers I've read about it, such as Moga, still need game developers to add support. I know there are other blue tooth controllers, but you'll still looking at the same limitations mentioned above.
Overall, it's just a limit of the game themselves. I would say most mobile game users are not keeping a controller with them. Thus, game developers are designing their games for no gamepad use. Maybe is Ouya and other similar devices prove to be successful beyond being niche, maybe developers will add native game pad support

ps3 sixaxis & wii u pro controllers

First post, thanks for this great forum!
Wasn't sure if this should be posted here or in the Q&A forum so forgive me if I've misposted.
First, I'm sure the answer is yes, but are the sixaxis ps3 controllers still limited to rooted nook HD's?? I've done alot of seaching and I've seen ICS natively supports them so I was hoping it had changed.
Second, can the wii u pro controller connect to a stock nook HD through a wii controller app the same as a wii controller?
I've searched both these topics here and elsewhere without a dinfinitive answer so hopefully I'm not repeating a previous thread.
Thanks in advance!
So Sixaxis is supposed to work for a rooted Nook HD+? I haven't been able to get it working.
i have a dual shock 3 that works but you need to change the mac address of the controller first (via an app on pc/mac), then i used the sixaxis app from the play store to connect the controller. i'd be interested in checking out the wii u pro controller but i've been content just using the wiimote w/ the classic pro controller attached and it's working just fine for me, even if it is a bit clunky to carry all that stuff around. if you don't feel like putting in the legwork you could always just pay the $34.99 for a moga controller since it's probably the closest you'll get to an official android controller
