Unfortunately OTG Doesn't work on Razr I

Actually, you can, but not in the usual form (just an OTG cable). You'll need to adapt an OTG cable to receive the power from a USB port like your computer or the wall outlet, so you'd have a usb cable Y.
.....................-----> device (female usb)
outlet (usb) ---|
..................... ----> otg cable to cellphone (mini usb)
You can find tutorials on the internet on how to do this. You'll need to solder the 5v+ and 5v- cables to make a bridge and that's all.
I've built an Otg cable, but still not able of getting things working. No usb is shown.

when looking at the storage control panel, it lists internal, sdcard-ext, and then "/mnt/usbdisk_1.1.1" and says "insert an [sic] USB disk for mounting".
so if i were to come up with some sort of adapter, could i plug a thumb drive into my phone's micro usb port to move files between the phone and the thumb drive? i can think of plenty of times that would be useful!
Tried. OTG cable works with Samsung galaxy S2 devices (Skyrocket using either SKY ICS or rooted OTA) but haven't got it to work on our Droids...(Bionic ICS leak, RAZR ICS OTA, Droid 4 ICS OTA...all rooted).
But if someone can prove me wrong I'd be happy to "eat my words" ...

OTG works, BUT only in a very cumbersome way, since external power is needed.
A powered USB hub does not suffice, since it only powers the slave devices, not the host (= phone). The phone must be in charge-mode, which requires a Y-cable.
You need:
- an OTG adapter
- a USB hub with mini-USB in
- a USB Y cable with 2 normal USB plugs and one mini-USB out
Then
1. Connect the OTG adapter to your phone's micro-USB input
2. Connect the 'middle' USB plug of the USB Y cable into the OTG adapter
3. Connect the 'outer' USB plug of the USB Y cable to a charger (can be a portable battery as well)
4. Connect the mini-USB plug of the USB Y cable to the hub output
5. Connect any device you want to use to the USB hub
It looks like this (found this picture for Razr):
http://www.flickr.com/photos/teppan_hakushaku/6817735705/
Edit: I verified it for Droid 4 last week, but didn't take my own picture yet. Works with ICS .215 leak, no 3rd party apps (like 'StickMount') seem to be needed.
Edit2: According to some other posts in this forums (search for 'OTG') it will only work for FAT32 formatted drives. Didn't check this in detail but my drive was already FAT32. Also I found it did not work for my cheap wireless keyboard's USB dongle, but connecting a wired keyboard worked fine.
...reminded again why I love this community...
...no possible links to a purchase of this "y" cable?

Glad I could help!
They come with some portable harddisks, so that's where I got mine. Not sure about the linking policy on XDA, please remove if not allowed. Here's an example:

Hello,
I have a USB OTG cable and dell keyboard that I have tested and work in OTG mode on a Nexus 7, however i cannot get them to function with my HP Touchpad 32gb, running CM9 2.6.35, built on Sun Oct 28.
The device recognizes when I plug in anything via USB, but only as a generic Linux USB hub, and not as any particular device. Are there any steps to take to debug this? Has anyone had experience with this type of an issue?
Thanks for your help,
Cory
I don't know if this is the issue, but I know the touchpad doesn't support OTG like the the Nexus does. I think you need a Y-adapter + OTG to provide power since the micro usb port doesn't give any power to the device you connect. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though.
Apparently even a powered USB requires a powered Y cable to be properly recognized. I hacked together a quick Y cable manually, by splicing in another USB cable's power and ground (Red and black) to the respective locations on a female USB cable. Works as expected.
I am now communicating with an Arduino over Serial
Thanks!
Read this thread, should give you all the info you need:

Basically the Touchpad has OTG but it provides no power.

Agreed. I think people just are not stating reality regarding the ability to charge and use OTG Hosting to USB devices at the same time.
My goal here has been to attach a flash drive with video/audio media and play & charge on long flights. It looks like play, charge are mutually exclusive on my beloved TouchPad.
I've asked for the specific confirmation of this from this YouTube but have never had the poster reply:

There are devices out there that have very advanced micro USB device implementations. Sadly the HP is only superficially supportive.
I for one cannot wait to get my SGN2 smart dock which offers:
Charging
OTG (x3 USB)
Audio out
HML HDMI out

Hi guys.. i've searched around how to make works usb host on our p1000.. i've tryed several roms and now i've cyanogenmod 9.1.0 since it support usb host and it works with Y cable!
now.. i'm using a self powered usb HUB.. connected to tablet through an usb female to female adaptor and official Samsung data cable.
so.. i've downloaded "Usb Host Controller" app, under "setting" tab i've selected "usb host mode" and now under "USB" tab i can see 2 devices ("1-1 USB2.0 Hub" and "1-1.4 USB2.0 Hub"). When i plug in an usb Stick (2gb) i'm able to mount it and browse through File manager with no issue.. but when i plug on hub an usb mouse.. tablet doesn't recognize it in any way! the mouse optical light turn on and turn off after a few second.. i've tried with two different usb mouse without success!
Any suggestion?

Hi.. i'm using official CyanogenMod 9.1 Stable ICS with kernel inside.. nothing special to do.. just download "USB Host Controller".. switch to host mode.. then plug your selfpowered usb hub or an Y-Cable with a power connection, since our tab doesn't provide enough energy from 30-pin port! but only USB Stick work for me.. nothing to do with other devices like mouse or keyboard.. for screenshot i can post it tomorrow!:good:
Hi, are you just using the standard samsung cable? AFAIK, usb otg cable must be used. Anyway I will wait for the screenshot and if possible a photo of your setup. Thanks

Happy new year 2013 to all.
Greetings from the Philippines
Which exact version are you using to use OTG properly? I tried "sgt7-10.1-20130224-HumberOS-p1" but couldnt use mouse or anything. BTW I am using a Connection Kit with USB and card readers as a OTG device.
Thanks in advance.

Do not use usb connection kit. Just use the standard charging/data cable, y cable, 2 usb gender changer and the tab's charger.

Do not use usb otg cable as well. Y cable usually comes as accessory when you buy portable hdd.
Kindly see this post.

First of all thank you for your answers. Is this the configuration then:
1 Y cable (2 male, 1 female), 1 gender changer (2 female inputs), 1 tablet charger cable (1 30pin input, 1 male USB)
I guess that I should connect 1 male input of Y cable to tablet charger, the other male to gender changer. The remaining input of the gender changer will be connected to Tablet with its charger cable. Female input of the Y cable is left for mouse, USB memory, etc... If this is a true set up, could you please tell me what exact version of Android, kernel, etc you are using. The link of the ROM (CM9, CM10, etc) will be very appreciated.
Thanks again.
Hello @nogo8888
i've read your previous posts that you have experienced using USB OTG with mouse and keyboard functional on your Tab?
I own P-1000 either and already installed the latest ROM from HumberOS (that's the 06-2013 update) and trying to mount my devices such as keyboard and USB mouse, with USB Host Controller (by sztupy) but i have no result.
if you don't mind please kindly help.
Thanks for advance, greetings from Indonesia
hi
the best way for mouse and keyboard use the Bluetooth mouse and keyboard
Hi friends,
I want to attach to my touchpad memory card reader and external hard drive.
I wonder if it will be possible instead of buying Y cable and connect it to the OTG, to use my existing USB hub and connect to him the devices and the external battery bank.
Will it work?
Thanks

im assuming youre talking about doing this in android 4.0.x +. if so then yes you should be able to connect an externally powered usb hub to the OTG cable and connect more than one device at a time.
Thanks

will it work?

Yes. You need to give power to the periphal usb devices. I tried the same yesterday, without problems.
Hey all
I have a powered Belkin USB hub (this one: http://www.belkin.com/us/F4U040-Belkin/p/P-F4U040), coupled with an OTG cable which I know work together, as my Kindle Fire recognizes all USB devices through this setup (Keyboard, Mouse, Flash Drive etc).
I was surprised to find that my HP touchpad does not recognize any devices connected to this hub.
I did some diagnostics with USB Device Utility, and the touchpad recognizes my USB OTG cable, as it shows as a 'Qualcomm On-Chip EHCI Host Controller'.
The touchpad simply does not see anything plugged into the hub, be it a keyboard, mouse or flash drive.
Please help me here, guys!
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks

Are you sure that's powered? The picture doesn't show any DC connectors. Is it powered by something like a mini USB to USB cable on the back? If so, that might not be enough to power the device and the peripherals attached to the ports.

The belkin does have an external dc power supply and is not powered via usb
I think you need a Y cable even with a powered hub as its purpose is to inject power back into the OTG chip in the Touchpad.
Found this cable on Amazon. This seller is in US and can ship faster I believe...

Will this cable allow for powering a USB device while using the device? Also, will it permit charging the tablet while using the USB device?

I believe you can power the secondary device, but without a custom kernel, you cannot power the tablet while OTG device is connected. I know someone made a kernel or two for the N7 but it will not work with our devices. Plus, with a pogo cable, you can just charge and OTG at the same time.
