A couple of days ago I thought it would be a GREAT idea to install a GSM ROM (Android Revolution HD) on my Sprint HTC One. I am now able to go into the recovery and flash a different ROM, but the ROM will boot up but shut down several seconds after reaching the home screen. I have been told that using an RUU might help, but will that work even if my computer doesn't recognize my phone as a USB device? All help is appreciated
EDIT: FIXED THANKS TO BIGDADDY619'S GUIDE ON THE SECOND PAGE

Maybe you screwed your radio but i'm not sure this is the answer to your problems... To be able to run a RUU your pc MUST recognize your phone in fastboot mode.
I repaired a friends device that did the same thing. When it boots you will see a lock screen with no wallpaper and then it will shutdown.
An RUU is the ONLY way to fix it.

There's nothing special about an RUU, it's just a self extracting archive that uses fastboot to flash stuff.
It can be done by hand, such as with a nandroid backup.

When I go into fastboot, my compooter makes that duh-doo sound for connecting a USB device, but it never shows up as a device on my computer that I can transfer files to. Is this normal and/or is this good enough for the RUU to work?

If you have S-OFF it will...
These instructions are for the Sprint variant only
You will need to be unlocked and have twrp installed for this to work (I'm posting this here because of my work schedule if you need further assistance PM back hopefully you and Matt can get it working )
1. Follow this guide Guide - Get s-off on 1.31 HTC One (Sprint) Update:
You will get a failed warning after issuing the echo blah blah command this is normal and nothing to be worried about and after the echo command type exit to exit the adb shell and continue.
2. Get the RUU here click the first link in the thread(extract it to your desktop/open it and click setup it will scan your device,go thru the various screens reading the warnings and checking the boxes, once it starts it will take 10-20 minutes to complete) once it's done you will be back to completely stock.
Optional:
Use revone to gain s-off (if you go with this option once you are s-off you won't need to use HTC-Dev to unlock your bootloader because revone does it for you) A sidenote about revone it will fail several times just press the UP arrow on your keyboard to issue the same command and press enter.Watch the cmd window for instructions to reboot and continue.
or flash a Sprint rom from the Sprint forum
Any other questions or concerns post here or PM me
Good Luck

How did you burn the iso (the ones with the fastboot problem)?
I burned it using the build in windows image burner onto a CD. I might try a USB later on but I'll stop trying for now

Burn the iso and boot from it. The rest of the instructions are given to you as you go
Swyped from my HTC Legend
Is it normal that you need to press the power at the right time 2ce?
I managed to get past the first by some pretty stupid method which I'm not going to make public if I'm not sure that it works (cause it's pretty risky)
But that same method doesn't work the second time in step 2/3.
Or isn't it supposed to ask for that a 2nd time?
So I had to pull my battery out in the 2nd step and it showed a message that it was unable to flash the HBoot but luckily the old was still intact.
S-OFF on first try
I used unetbootin to make a usb boot pen, then boot into tiny core, followed instructions and S-OFF

All you have to do is go to www.HTC.com, navigate to the hero cdma section, and download and install the 2.1 update.
You will be unrooted and completely back to stock. You don't need all this fastboot and command stuff. Some people over complicate stuff on here.

Why would anyone root and flash if they don't COMPLETELY understand this... then waste pst's time trying to help him. READ the damn board, this I know for a fact has been discussed in MANY threads.
And there is a difference with flash. Sorry the more techies here know this and think differently.

So this has been mind breaking for me. I failed to flash the blackrose hboot everytime i trie and on every rom. It gets to the point where it has sent it files and then it says <waiting for device>. This happens on stock, BuglessBeast, rcadsmixhd 2.3 & 1.6 and hypersense (i like sense ). Anyone has any advice . Btw it did not brick it.
the problem your having isn't actually related to which rom your using on your phone. its that its not being detected as an adb device. you need to make sure that your drivers are installed and you see it in device manager as an ADB interface under Android Phone.

Ehm, usb debugging is enabled and detected by the software at first. It gets to the point that it sends its hboot and after that it says something like error: deviceoffline and then stuck on waiting for device forever.
it could be that another program like PDAnet is interfering.
do you use any other programs on your PC that would use adb?

well maybe htc sync but that was closed and its process was killed by taskmanager. No other programs i can think of.
well if your drivers are fine and there is nothing causing some form of interruption then. its probably an issue coming from the phone.
since you've tried it with so many different roms am guessing you didnt bother running/installing any apps
try it without the SD card inserted maybe.
thinking i should try and see if i can't replicate your issue find out what the issue is.

SO without my sd card it did not make any difference, apart from that it now mixes the message: adb server is out of date. Killing... and then waiting for device again.
the first time i installed blackrose i didn't use this method but maybe you can try flashing the hboot manually, which is what i normally do now, find it more straight forward.

You can easily flash ROMs without unlocking the bootloader. All that is required is to root the original OS and install a custom recovery using a program like ROM Manager.
But I believe the phone is detected differently when in fastboot mode. Did you verify that the phone is still properly recognized in device manager when in fastboot mode?
What happens if you put the device into fastboot mode (holding the trackball when powering on) and you type fastboot devices at your command prompt?
Awesome.
Glad to help ^_^

ICS is too big for the stock ROM space on the N1, so you need to make those alterations so it can fit. texasice did make a striped down version that works on stock though.

If you are like me, you have been flashing ROMS on your phone for years before you ever unlocked the bootloader. I didn't do it until about 6 months ago because I needed to flash Blackrose. Also, don't bite the hand that is trying to feed you.
All,
New to htc and flashing, and try doing at 3am didn't help either. hope someone can help. Will paypal $50 to anyone that can help. Thanks in advance.
Here's what i did
using One_S_All-In-One_Kit_v3.5 for all my modding
got token
unlocked bootloaded
didn't flash any recovery
flash a new .img kernel, but i used a boot.img from a zip file (home2wake zip) - don't ask why, i wasn't thinking lol
phone rom was all black, keeps rebooting
i managed to flash recovery, recovery-clockwork-6.0.3.1-m7wls.img
then wanted to restore stock rom
so i downloaded, this rom, http://android-revolution-hd.blogspot.com/p/android-revolution-hd-mirror-site-var.html
flashed zip using recovery
went through the rom custom installation of what i wanted installed.
After that it rebooted and stuck on green htc screen
i can get back into boot loader, but can't load recovery, can't factory reset, any option i select, the screen flash and sends me back to bootloader
rom won't load, can't get into recover, computer not detecting phone
Please help!!!

Sent from my HTCONE using xda premium
you can try to load ADB Fastboot on your PC, then connect your phone via usb, be sure to have all of the drivers.
in bootloader, if it reads FASTBOOT USB, then you can us
fastboot flash recovery (Name of recovery).img
once that is done you should be able to at least get back into recovery....
check the link for recovery file
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2236418
I am no expert, but my guess would be to go back to stock boot / recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2236418
Relock your phone: fastboot oem lock
Install the RUU: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2250904
And in the future don't use an All-In-One-Kit meant for another phone (The One S in your case)

It wasn't the extras that messed it up. It was the fact you were using an AIO that isn't for your device. That's a big no no.

Once you get back to stock with the RUU, use Hassoon2000's all in one kit...n00b proof!

i was using this, all of the recovery on there were for samsung s3/s4/and special edition. so i couldn't get to the recovery. Then i started tweaking around with the extras and flashed a boot.img to a kernel. failed
Android Revolution ROM is not for the sprint htc one. fyi
First you'll need this file http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2250904
Extract to someplace you can find it, maybe the desktop
if you power the phone down then hold the vol - button does it boot into bootloader?
if so make sure you have the htc fastboot drivers installed from htc sync
if your on a windows machine from command prompt navigate to the platform-tools folder
for example
mine is in C:/users/ray/downloads/adt-bundle-windows-x86_64/adt-bundle-windows-x86_64/sdk/platform-tools
in command prompt issue the command
fastboot oem lock
once the bootloader is re-locked
issue the command
fastboot oem rebootRUU
the phone should reboot into a black screen with greenish htc letters
find the setup.exe file from the ruu file and run it.
if all goes well you should be back to stock with a locked bootloader.
good luck
Awesome, unbricked it! Thank you wranglerray!!!!!!
Also thanks to everyone that replied, but it was wranglerray detailed step that helped me through it. awesome community.
as promised, send me your paypal account wranglerray, i'll send you the $50
Let this thread be a lesson that 1) don't mess with your phone if you don't know what you're doing and 2) don't flash a GSM ROM on your Sprint phone because it wipes your boot and recovery partition (on GSM phones, it wipes data and system but sprints partitions are different).

Failing after making a bunch of random attempts to do something doesn't constitute learning. Next time you should make sure you actually understand what it is that you are trying to do before you do it, and maybe then you won't end up almost completely wiping your phone clean.
You're lucky that the international One's and Sprint Ones partitions aren't like the Sprint/international S3, or else you would've overrided your bootloader as well and had a brick on your hands.
*First of all, I'm posting here because I haven't had enough posts for the dev section yet..*
So...I've never had any issues rooting and installing ROMs.. not that I've done a TON, but two phones and 3 tablets, so I little ha..
Got my HTC One unlocked and rooted fine with the All-in-one tool, which worked good enough, but when I tried to get a ROM working is when I ran into issues.
I guess I'll tell the main issue first and then explain what happened..
Either only boots to bootloader/fastboot,
OR
Gets stuck on HTC logo and never leaves..
Am I screwed?
What I did that I think effed it...
After getting rooted and running, I tried to install RenovateROM_1.0...kept just randomly stopping and giving an error about "asset failed..." and just booted normally (no ROM)
I googled the hell out of that I tried editing the updater-script like I saw in so many places, and then I screwed up cause it was 3:30am and I was sick of trying.
I was gonna wipe the cache and data before I tried installing again, but I ended up wiping System in there and possibly Dalvik cache as well..
(I know that was stupid now!!!! Feel free to remind me haha..)
And now it's stuck.
If I try install a ROM, it says it completes, but won't boot past fastboot/bootloader.
If I re-flash my TWRP with fastboot, then reboot-bootloader, THEN reboot, it gets the HTC and stays.
Can someone please help me?
Thanks much in advance..
-Shaun
I did that too kinda (wiped everything on accident) Try to ADB sideload the Rom in the advanced options to TWRP otherwise you have to download the RUU and relock the phone up etc. And start over.

Thanks for the reply! Can you possibly link me to a decent tut on how to use RUU? I never have.
I guess I can just look too, but seems like they're always different depending on the phone!
Is that even a Sprint HTC One rom?

It's under Sprint HTC One Dev so I figured? Is that accurate or am I missing something?
I'm trying to start ADB sideload from twrp and it just sits at "Starting ADB sideload feature..."
and ADB says "error: no device found"
thanks for helping out!

AFAIK there are 4 HTC One forums
HTC One
Sprint HTC One
AT&T HTC One
T-Mobile HTC One
You may have flashed a rom for another variant do you have a link I didn't see that rom listed
Your right bigdaddy, shaun you flashed a gsm rom i'm guessing from the unbranded forum.
Download the ruu from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2250904
boot your phone into bootloader and make sure your bootloader is in fastboot
extract that ruu file to somewhere you can find easily maybe the desktop
open your command prompt and navigate to your android sdk folder and run this fastboot command
fastboot oem lock
then after you've relocked the bootloader
run the command
fastboot oem rebootRUU
run the setup.exe from the ruu file and let it return you to stock

So I assumed it was from one of the variants
Maybe sending -viperboy- a PM with a link to this thread maybe he can help get you going
that's actually vipers rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2202696
I found this link on the m7 forum is this what you flashed? if so this for the non-branded gsm htc one and not the cmda sprint htc one
it also looks like you flashed the renovate rom initial release, That dev is using svn to update nightlies. I'm guessing the "sprint support" is in one of those updates and not the initial release

OOoohhhhhhhhh.................I'm an idiot!! Like I said, 3:30 and apparently didn't do enough checking around....right now I don't even care what I have on it for a ROM, I just want it to work so I don't feel like I ruined it already haa..
Should I still follow those steps to try fix?
Thank you guys so much!

Awesome.. Well it says "Sending.............................." so after that process is done it should be stocked and locked? Or is there a final step?
Worked!! Thank you both bigdaddy19 and wranglerray! You helped my piece of mind immensely

good deal. Just remember to read everything before flashing. And if your unsure ask. I've had very minimal issues with flashing and changing settings but when I have its been totally my fault for not completely reading an op. if you flash and go back to read a step you've missed its usually too late.

Yeah dude, you're lucky that the international rom you flashed had asserts in it to check device type, or you might've had an actual paperweight on your hands. Stick to the Sprint forums next time.
Yeah I scared myself for sure.. even this morning activating it scared me a little cause normally use the DEC, but it said 'not a valid Sprint ESN', and the HEX
worked great.
Any ideas why that would be?
