[Q] Verizon Galaxy S3 Mini Root Help - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Recently purchased a Galaxy S3 Mini from Verizon, was pretty excited about the aspect of rooting and installing custom roms.
Only problem is that I can't seem to find a single thread/video/(anything) that is able to root the version of the phone that I have.
Every thread I search for is either for the normal S3, or only unlocks the S3 mini if it's running 4.1.1 or 4.1.2, but my phone is running 4.2.2.
I read somewhere that Verizon has blocks in place set to stop rooting from happening, but 1.) I'm sure someone has found a way around this and 2.) I'm not sure whether it's true or not.
If anyone wants to know:
Model Number: SM-G730V
Kernel Version: 3.4.0
Build Version: JDQ39.G730VVRUAMI9
Android Version: 4.2.2
Not sure what other information might be needed, though I'm more than happy to answer any and all questions that might get me (and possibly others, if they're having the same issue) some help.

My fiancée is in the same boat

It's kind of saddening that so many people have viewed this thread, yet there hasn't been a single helpful post.
I'm starting to believe that there isn't any hope for the Galaxy S III Mini.

I haven't even seen anything about that method. I'll look into it now.
That's exactly what I was looking for though. Even if the method doesn't work, it's nice to have someone give input on possible methods so that I can keep on trying.
I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Yes, please do :good:
I'm pretty sure it will work. It's the same phone, just from another carrier.

So I looked into the method tys0n posted, and it led me to a Chinese root method called VRoot.
http://www.mgyun.com/vroot
It's a one-click method, and installed it's own SU on the phone, but I'm installing root-only apps at the moment to check whether it's actually rooted or not.
This thread has pictures explaining what the all-Chinese app is doing.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2459910&highlight=one+click

root worked for me!!!! Now does anyone know of any ROMS that are compatible?

The Chinese 1 click root worked for me as well. After the reboot, I installed SuperSU and root explorer. SuperSu prompted me to allow it to uninstall the chinese su so I allowed it. I updated the binary without issue and have titanium backup running and uninstalled some verizon apps and froze some other things. Freed up some RAM and it already seems to be a bit snappier. Not that it was really that bad to begin with.
Wouldn't we need to have a custom recovery to be able to flash any ROM's? I never bothered to try any with my Note II since it ran so smoothly but on my dx2 prior to that, we needed the custom recovery.

I am also in the same predicament with a Verizon S3 Mini (SM-G730V). I was hoping to install maclaws 4.4 on it but apparently that is only for the GSM model, I8190. I would be very interested to hear if anyone is able to get this running on the G730V.

I have issues connecting SM-G730v to PC
I am wondering if this is the right place to put in this question but I am wondering if anybody else has had issues connecting to PC. There seem to be no drivers to get the diagnostic Com Port so I can connect to CDMA Workshop. (Debug mode, diag mode, service menu, hidden menu) The typical everyday stuff that connects most other phones doesn't get me hooked. I have googled for 2 days now hopping to find a solution but cant find anything. Any ideas or success let me know. need to flash to another carrier, but have yet to connect to workshop,

I Really Need This File!! Please!!
G730VVRUAMI9_G730VVZWAMI9_VZW.zip
Need It ASAP Please!!! I have a Riff Box and & Got JTAG Active on it. All SM-G730 A/M/W8/V Variants have JTAG port down the Black Big Speaker. Need remove the screw & speaker to access it. If anyone already has a Bricked One I Can Recover it Back to Life. Just need the VZW File to re-write directly via eMMC PlugIn on Riff Box.

For SM-G730V, to get to diag mode is ##DMMODE# or *#0808#
If you had flash Samsung before, then you will not get any problem from this one.
I already use this phone and works on my country.

Samsung Captivate Flashing Help?????‏

Hello
I am having the Unlocked SAMSUNG CAPTIVATE (SGH-I896) of Canada Rogers Network. I am using the same from last December, 2010. As now the firmware of my phone is crashed and it is not even going in DOWNLOAD MODE or in RECOVERY MODE, by which I can repair my crashed firmware and also now my phone is not working.
My request to you is that can you tell me that if you can FLASH my SAMSUNG CAPTIVATE (SGH-I896) with the ROM of the mobile if you have with you, otherwise I will provide the Original Firmware Backup which I am having with me. So please tell me whether you can upgrade the firm with the ROM you have or mine.
Please help me to solve my number, as I am from India, now I cannot send my mobile to Canada back.
Thanks
I'm sorry I know english isn't your native language but could you try and reword your question?
And what do you mean by the phone isn't working? What exactly does it do?

Hmmm...this is a tough one, and I work with offshore resources on a daily basis. My guess is he unlocked his cappy, took it to India, tried to flash something, bricked it, and needs help restoring a rom file he has on his phone, or a rom from here.

+1 and just to answer a possible question ... The phone should still be unlocked after flashing to stock with odin.
Hello
thanks for replying me, my original post link is this of whom you made the reply:----
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1041785
Actually I flashed my Samsung Captivate with Froyo GT-[I9000] and the same ROM was flashed with Odin v1.8 and when I restart my mobile then i come to find that the BACK KEY of mobile is not working and then I mistakenly apply this method on my New flashed Samsung Captivate, the link of the post after searching on Google.com is as below:
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile...d-recovery-mode-in-samsung-galaxy-s-gt-i9000/
and after that when I switch off my mobile for checking whether my problem of BACK KEY get solve or not then I come to know that my Mobile is not starting normally and the same was also not starting in RECOVERY or DOWNLOADING MODE. I tired all key combination but all get in vein.
So can you help me in solving my SAMSUNG CAPTIVATE problem. and I have the unlock code with me, so that I can unlock my mobile again easily without any problem.
I will wait for your reply.
Thanks
Buy a jig. It will put it in download so you can do odin one click. I use AIO toolbox to do it.

[Q] Can I flash recovery and roms from the phone?

Hello everyone. I have a question. Can I flash the recovery image (whether CWM or anything else) and also the Roms from within the phone without using a PC.
The problem is I don't have access to a PC (all my laptop usb connections got fried) and I have an HTC Hero. I just download whatever I want to the SD card and flash it without the need for a PC. I wonder if that is possible?
I got T-mobile Tab a couple of days ago. I rooted it and I got Rom Manager. But after I reboot in recovery, I get the verification error.
So, can I do this without the so-called Odin or Heimdall?
Thanks in advance...
if you got the CWM work on your tab so probably yes u can do so , u just need to download the rom and read the discretion given by the dev and flash it via cwm
but
there is always a need of odin , in case u stuck or something ,
and also its depend about the dev is made it to be flashed by odin or cwm .
out of topic : how is egypt , really do miss it
Thanks a lot for your answer. And it is great to find someone else misses Egypt besides myself. I guess everything there is a mess now and I'm going to check it out by the end of the month.

no service on SGS I9000

Recently, I flashed my SGS I9000 with DarkyROM v11.0 Black Edition and all went smoothly. I did this while I was in Pakistan for the holidays. When I came back to the UK, I found that my phone wasn't getting any service, not from my old sim or my new sim. My new sim had been activated on the day I got back and it just showed the crossed-out triangle. My old sim was supposed to be working but it wasn't working on the phone for some reason. After a fair amount of hours spent on researching on the problem, I figured that my efs was corrupted. A symptom of this was that my imei had changed and I'm not sure how to get it back.
Samsung Services decided to shut the door in my face and I haven't any solutions as of yet.
What's your take on this? Do you have any solutions to this problem?
All help is greatly appreciated, thank you.
Any one have any solutions to this problem?
Why you did not backup of efs folder before flashing? ...sometimes flashing official gingerbread rom helps in getting imei back, so try that :/
This should help (replace Froyo by a Gingerbread release)

Okay, I've hit a new low. You can blame my stupidity for this.
I was looking at xsenman's suggestions and I asked about one of his methods, he told me to use the M110S Repair kit which I downloaded. I opened it up and it shows a bunch files that I had to flash to my phone. While flashing my phone and eventually bricking it, I realised that the M110S is the Korean version and I just tried to flash that firmware onto mine, resulting in a brick. Basically, I hold the power button and it shows the Samsung Anycall logo and that's about the extent of the boot and my capabilities. I cannot go into download mode or recovery mode (via 3 buttons) it just tries to boot up the phone.
I have realized my complete idiocy at this point but I could use anything just to get my phone back up so that I can atleast continue trying to sort out the IMEI.

Ok, this is rather strange and sad to hear , as you made a post in the Korean M110S Forum, my suggestions were for you to use the Korean repair kit at Today, 06:13 AM in response to a post made at Today, 03:07 AM.
But by Today, 07:39 AM, you responded I am referring to the wrong model and by Today, 07:46 AM, I advised you to use the i9000 froyo ROM instead .
So it sad to hear you still used the M110S repair kit knowingly , even after I advised you not to use it, at 07:46 AM today?
Anyway, what you should do is first power down, remove battery, remove SIM Card and Ext SD card, , press power button for a few min, than reinsert battery only and try for download mode or use Methods mention on MY Android Solutions, link below to achieve download mode .
Forget about recovery mode, get download mode and use PIT and full i9000 ROM package, use JVZ or JVU with boot loaders
I, Personally had tested i9000 ROMS on the M110S and spend a few hours flashing M110S repair kit over and over again to recover, so as long as your phone can get into download mode or with a help of a JIG, its not bricked.

download combo keys may change when OTHER firmware are used on a phone, so you should try different combinations for download mode . For M110S , download mode is home key +power key...give it a try or
1) To enter download mode [volumedown+home+power] or home +power
2) While in this position, insert the battery
I once lost mine, and to get it back, I flashed back the last known good configuration.
Unfortunately sometimes these things happen.
Right, the phone is back onto Gingerbread 2.3.6 after a cheap jig that I ordered forced it into download mode. I then flashed froyo then gingerbread and now I'm back to where I started, no service and a missing imei.
I've had a development!
Okay, so after playing around with the phone, rooting and stuff. I managed to get my 3g working somehow but still no imei, texting or calling. Really strange how I can use internet but not be able to text or call anyone

So my question remains
I would try figuring it out via google searches etc - but if you can't you could always send it into samsung.

Why not the S3 8190? This one in the link above has a corrupted bootloader too.
I wish someone would help a brother out and upload an img instead of making remarks. Anything worth trying is better than getting a Riff Jtag. It seems as if this forum is all about reposting stuff from other sites or members are smartasses.
1. I'm trying to get an idea of the status of the device.
2. I'm just a guy that has the same phone without any android development knowledge who is trying his best to help.
3. There are some real geniuses on this site.

I apologise, I had been scouting every forum possible with no solution in sight and no hope of finding one. I was frustrated. The device has been taken to a repair center and the technician looked very confused but said he would try. As a south african you will understand my lack of confidence in the device being repaired as he was hired due to AA.
Apologies once again.
PS: I have bought a J5 brand new and I hope i dont kill it. Trying very hard to keep it stock...

I see that there is still nobody on this forum that actually knows what they are doing. ****ing morons.
Flashing phone via JTAG port could be a solution. You need a JTAG debugger ( Riff Box, Medusa, Z3X etc.) which supports your phone. The trouble is, this devices is not cheap so its better to send it to a phone service.

I tried to flash Lollipop 5.1.1 (Carbon) 20150701 on my S3 via odin and the cable failed and hard bricked my S3 mini. No download mode,No recovery,No Bootlogo,No Vibration…just dead. Is there a debrick img available so i might be able to save my phone? I cannot afford JTag right now. Please assist. I think it has to be the bootloader.

Okay so i had rooted my phone using Iroot and I wanted to unroot my device so I can give it to my brother so he can use it for his new phone he has a different company though and wanted to see if he could switch I tried unrooting it but it just wouldn't work and next thing I know my brother factory data resets it without un rooting and now it's stuck on the Samsung s6 screen it won't let me go on recovery but it will let me on odin/download mode is there a way I can fix this.

Yep, go to Sammobile .com or samsung-updates .com and enter your model number to find the stock firmware, download it then flash it in Odin.

What is the model number? If it shows the firmware you can download it, you just aren't doing something right. Sometimes antivirus blocks downloads.

If you can't connect to PC or boot to any modes then you're not gonna be able to flash it. You're device isn't completely dead though, a JTAG might work. Also, flashing via Odin might work whether USB debugging was checked or not, when the system is corrupted bad enough, that doesn't matter because there is nothing there to tell it that it is blocked from flashing.
The debrick from sdcard method for S3 linked below might work for the S6.

If you can find someone with the exact same model device that has theirs rooted, you can get them to pull a debrick.img from the device then you can use that debrick.img to create a bootable SDcard to boot the device from it. Then you can restore the device.
You need to understand that the S3 and the S6 are partitioned differently so everywhere in those instructions for S3, when it mentions a file or partition or partition location(mmcblk0), you will have to ignore what it says for the S3 and research your device to make sure that you are using the correct files, partitions and partition locations for the S6 and not the S3. This method may or may not work. You need to find some of the experienced S6 members that might understand this method enough to adapt it to your S6.

In the S6 forum here, start reading through threads that have recently been posted, or other threads where there are guides to unbrick or restore to stock, I'm sure you're smart enough to figure who there is well experienced by how/what members there are posting. The fix for problems aren't always as simple as saying "here's some links, here's some files", sometimes it takes hours/days/weeks of reading to find what you need. Get to looking on the S6 forum for experienced members, reply to their posts in threads to ask them about what you want to know, send them a PM to ask them. I'm trying to help you but I've reached the end of what I know that will help you. Its up to you find what you need, I'm just telling you where to look.
