Video Review: Mugen Power 3600 mah EXTENDED BATTERY

Hey guys,
Just wanted to show off my review of the Mugen Power 3600 mah battery (and battery cover) for the Xperia Play 4G. This is a helpful accessory for those of you that need the extra juice! Full review below:

Has there not been an official review allready?.. like 3 months back?
What's improved or is the difference to 'back then' ?

id really like an extra strong battery but it would mean i couldnt use my case (trident, which i havent received yet, but i wouldnt expect it to fit with the bigger back cover), probably couldnt even use the docking station? (which i dont have, either, until now!)
Also, I know there exists a 2600mAH battery which costs 23 euro in germany (extra back cover, too) so if thats not bad id think the extra costs for 3600mah mugen power arent worth it.
one question, though: If you open the device now and put it on the ground, does it stay on the lower side or does it topple over like normally?

I have this battery as well and the extra bulk doesn't bother me at all. Maybe the batteries are a little different as I can get a lot of life out of mine. There is one downfall for me, don't know if it's the same for others. When taking a dark, indoors picture, I get a large, left sided blur from the flash. It seems that the case does not seat all the way down around the flash, leading to some light bleeding over into the picture. Like I said, I don't know if anyone else's is like this but mine is. I'm going to attempt a fix myself even though I do have another back plate coming from Mugen.
Edit; So I got my replacement battery door in the mail today and everything works perfectly now. So in the end, I am more than happy with this battery and company. They were fast to help me out and sent me a new door, no charge. The extra battery life more than outweighs the size increase. I surf, text and emulate a lot and get about 3 days out of each charge.

Hey there - I have the Trident case, it won't fit with the back cover on (but you probably knew that already). Sony Ericsson also sent me out the docking station, that doesn't work with it either, since it is a precise fit for the Xperia Play.
As for the device topple, it tends to want to topple over but the battery is heavy enough to hold it in place.

Hey guys, I wanted to warn you about this battery now that I've had it for a while. A little while ago, my Mugen started causing me problems. Phone running funny, lots of apps wouldn't work, lots of phone stuttering, fast drain, very hot crashes, etc.. Also started draining faster than the stock battery with no use. My phone is stock, no roms, no root. Tried a reset, no help. So I tried swapping my stock battery in and the phone runs perfect. After a couple days, swap the Mugen back in, tons of problems. Been back on the stock battery for over a week now and not one single problem.
So I've contacted Mugen 4 times since this has happened and they completely ingore me. I even contacted them on their facebook page and get the run around. I dug through their return/exchange policy and it states that despite their 6 month warranty, after 30 days, you're SOL. You first have to get an RMA which I've been unsuccessful in doing. Then pay to ship it back, pay a penalty for restocking (?), wait for 2 weeks while they "test" it to ensure it's faulty and then pay to have a new one re-shipped. If it's not faulty, you're really SOL and I'm sure they never have faulty ones.....
This was a total waste of time and money for me. Please be careful if you go this route.

Sorry to hear that bro. It amazes me that it seems no one can make a decent non OEM battery (extended or stock capacity). And it seems even the "expensive" ones aren't much better.

Does the company make cases made for the extra bulk of the door?

For $100 I would expect the case to be two layers so that the speaker output would be channeled correctly and would not allow water freely into the rest of the chamber. The microphone hole looks like it does not line up with the microphone at all! If anything, it should have been at the exact same level as the original hole with a more open tunnel to the top just like the camer/flash holes. They obviously expected you to notice the single-layer shortcomings if they didn't push the switch that would require you to turn off Safe SD so the only reason it doesn't route the speaker audio and secondary mic correctly is because they can get away with it. With the audio echoing around inside with the secondary mic, I expect horrible speakerphone performance and very little stereo seperation. With the microphone subducted, I expect terrible noise canceling. You don't have to be an engineer to see these problems!
$100?! No way.
I think a $25 Otterbox Commuter and a second original battery cover could be modified to discretely hold this with none of the other drawbacks. The Otterbox has some design issues of it's own, but I'm taking those to another thread (you'll want to saw off at least two of the clipping tabs).

hi. i got ****ed cause i got a bad tab with worst battery. now i need a new one. can any one tell me where to get one? are the ones available on ebay real ones or fakes? also i have seen here somewhere link to newpower99 battery for 8.4 but i cant find it i have tried a lot to find that link.
can some one tell me if they have replaced the battery and from where did they get it? i have found 2 links on ebay can u guys pls tell me if theses are real ones or fakes? should i get these? asking so many questions cause i have to import the battery.and once thats done i cant return or replace as i live in the greatest country of the world, PAKISTAN

I'm sure there are a few places to get a new battery but I came across this site for replacement battery and how-to install: http://www.newpower99.com/Samsung_G...placement_Kit_p/samsung-galaxy-tab-s-10.5.htm. Have never use them so I can't comment on the quality of their products.

thats for the 10.5 variant man, i need one for Tab S 8.4

I am stuck with exactly same problem with my samsung tab S 8.4 and want battery replacement for my Tab. and i also need this battery to be shipped to pakistan.
I came across few links but none is shipping to pakistan.
There is one item at Aliexpress.com and they ship to worldwide but my own experience with aliexpress is not that good as all items are of very low quality, soo kindly if anyone comes across some good solution, help me too.

Just purchased one from Newpower. Seems OK - I haven't installed it yet as it is to be a standby in case it is needed. Yes it is expensive and beware - there will be import duty and tax to pay on top. I had to pay approx $28.00 more for this in the UK. Bill Kelly seems to be the owner/boss at Newpower who does the voice in their excellent video on their site and DVD provided with battery. Following my initial enquiry to express my doubts as to the quality etc he e'mailed to say that the battery comes to USA (Dallas) and is 3rd party, manufactured in Orient, and he needed my business (ordered only one battery).
Anyway the battery is marked Cameron Sine Technology - so try to see if you can buy it for considerably less from elsewhere. Where else would provide a special opening device / tool least likely to cause damage.
I noticed that the link to aliexpress indicates that the "genuine" battery was no longer available between 24 to 27 February when I checked. Send an e'mail to Bill Kelly and ask about shipment to Pakistan - it was not listed in the shipment list when you pretend to purchase for some reason.
I found 3 suppliers on eBay from Hong Kong, Wisconsin USA and Bischofswerda Germany with wildly varying prices and no doubt trustworthiness.

Hi ya'll... As most of you been experiencing, I have been having a lot of battery issues.
The battery levels drops in big dumps... Charge takes too long ( overnight for full charge) but doesn't last more than 3hrs... Charges too quickly (less than an hour) but also dies out within 30mins. When charge gets below 25% screen starts flickering and then it continuely reboots!
Anyways I finally decided to get a new battery, I went with eBay seller "Fashcover" item as it was $30AUD shipped and it also had all the tools required (actually had a lot more than needed). So after 2 weeks I finally received it, it only takes 10-15mins to replace the battery.
Pretty much all the markings are similar,the electric connecting wires are of different color combinations & it's 1-2mm smaller than OEM in width!
So far I've been able to use it for 4hrs straight, still have 30% remaining... Atleast now the battery slowly goes down instead of the jumps! But still battery life isn't anywhere near iPad minis!
Battery doesn't last long on 100% charge, it drops to 99% within a minute or 2 of disconnecting from charger..

You guys with the 8.4" seem to have quite a few problem compared to the 10.5" version, like display quality and now battery issues, or is it just a lot more people with the 8.4" or something.
And as far as i have read, after charge the battery dropping from 100% to 99% when the charger is unplugged or shortly after is normal so dont worry.
Below is a battery recalibration guide, for some of you it sounds like the battery is really faulty and needs replacing, it`s a shame you have to pay for it when it`s still in warranty.

You can calibrate the battery like this before you decide to buy a new one
Fully charge the battery with the phone on and when the phone is fully charged, unplug the charger and turn it off.
When your phone is off, plug it into the charger and let it charge to 100% again. The green LED light will indicate when this is done.
Next unplug the charger, turn on your phone and set the option to ensure that your screen doesn’t turn off, if you have this option. Then reconnect to the charger and wait for it to charge again to 100%.
Once charged to 100%, unplug the charger again and do not charge until the smartphone turns itself off after reaching a 0% battery level. Once off, fully charge it again and it should work properly. The screen setting can put back to normal again (meaning turn off after a certain amount of time).
phones with oled displays should not show static images for a long time as it can cause burn-in

this is the issue with almost all the tabs. people dont really accept it but this issue is there. there might be few exceptions but overall, the battery life SUCKS steel balls covered with goo and horse **** with toppings of slime and pig ****.
i have had enough issues with this ****ty tablet. i so loved this tablet that i spent almost twice its price on just repairs. but it was not meant for me may be. i had to sell it in scrap.
i have already warned people about its battery. there is a reason people get iPads when they want tablets. i have never owned one, but i have used one. and yes Android tablets, especially Samsung tablets SUCK!
my advice would be to sell it off ASAP, and instead get something else. you will face more issues, i can promise you that at least in battery life. rest its your choice.

its not that there are many people with 8.4, it might be, because of its smaller size but its not entirely the case. the truth is the battery in this tablet used by samsung is of worst quality even when compared to their lower end tablets. this was supposed to be Samsung's FLAGSHIP tablet but they ruined it with battery.
& yes 100 to 99 when u plug it out, thats understandable, but how can anyone explain a brand new, out of the box tablet, go from 99% to 63% in JUST SETTING UP THE TABLET WHICH TAKES LIKE LITERALLY 3 MINUTES???
"THAT'S" the issue people were facing.
and this is the reason you will not see samsung marketing it anymore now. even on their youtube channel. even samsung knows it was a full flop.
i personally know, 3 people other than myself who got this tablet. and all, including myself, had this issue. and NO we all didnt get these from same seller or even same country. and they were of different batch.

I always wondered if company's send b-grade products to country's with not the best consumer protection for faulty goods.
And 99% to 63% in 3 minutes is not normal, but it is possible that the tablet just needs the battery calibrating and there are a few guides out there, if the battery is still bad after that then return it or get it repaired.

I got one off ebay. It was not as wide as the stock battery but it plugged up and I have had no issues since! Getting around 6-7 hours SOT with web browsing and watching videos. With games, I get about 4 hours sot. Hope this helps.

is anyone having this issue with the 10.5? i have had two 8.4's one white 16gb and one 32gb bronze and they seem to have the same issue

No issues with battery on 10.5 inch. Not sure why. only the 8.4 models seem affected by battery.

When it`s $70/£45for an T800 10.5" battery with tool-kit, or i can get a splurge for removing the back cover for £1 and a replacement battery for £8.40, which would you choose.

Hey all! I think it's finally time to get a new battery, because I'm getting only 2500 mAh out of 3220 mAh, on a full charge. It HAS been 25 months after all. Where have you gotten your replacement batteries and how good are they?
I know @rignfool got his at repairsuniverse but I've never ordered from them before, so I'd like some more opinions please. Thanks!

Capacity smaller than my current (3050 vs 3220). Guess it's the one from the international model. Does it ship bent into the curved shape, or did you need to bend it yourself? Thanks!

The international and the US have the same batteries. It was bent already it's a real OEM one

From eBay I bought the battery from gokrazywireless and the Torx T3 driver from wholesalegadgetparts. I had to bend the replacement battery myself.

Working better than your aged old battery?

I got mine from Amazon, they missed the shipping window so I got a full refund, $15 credit and the battery lol. Would like to say though, buy one already curved, the battery will pretty much influence the entire body of the phone, having it even slightly off will cause the frame to bend and warp which is noticable. I spent idk how long trying all sorts of methods, even using my old battery as a guide to bend the new one, have been doing repairs for years, have ran my own repair shop for a time, extensive collection of ifixit/various tools and such, and I was still unable to bend it 100% factory curve, which results in an odd, for lack of a better term, "twist" to the phone when held up & looking straight down the phone, screen facing ceiling. The top left corner is ever slightly twisted to the rear. I have retried over the last 2-3 months here and there, taking it out, straightening the mid-frame on a completely flat (checked with level) surface, making sure the built-in guide plastics are aligned, then getting the battery to where I swear it's perfect, but when everything is back together, it's always just a little off lol.
I mean it's not really noticable unless you know what your looking for, if you really inspect it, but my OCD attention to detail can't stand it lol. This is a launch day, pre-ordered Nexus 6 that has always been in a dual layer case, never dropped, and not one scratch on it, screen or body, it's my baby and I like to take care of my phone's. Yet this battery is driving me mad that I'm seriously considering in the future buying an entire new mid-frame, screen, and OEM pre-curved battery just to have it right lol.

Also had Prime shipping so it was free and the final total was $17.99, which I mentioned, I was fully refunded + extra credited for, so really Amazon paid me $15 to take the battery lmao. As far as comparison goes it seems the same if not better, I have ran the factory battery since release so I may have just forgotten the experience of the stock battery, by the time I replaced it I was having shutdowns @ 45-50% remaining lol. This one does go down fully to 1% no problems and has been holding up to the frequent charge cycles I put it through as I run it @ 3.0GHz cpu / 800MHz gpu and tethering running 24/7 putting 300-500 GB's a month over Sprints 20 MHz Band 41 and never use anything but Qualcomm certified Quickcharge 3.0 chargers (yes I know N6 is only 2.0/future proofing ftw). However the stock charger burnt out a loooong time ago, I have been running with an Aukey PA-T9 wall charger & Anker Powerline+ 6Ft cable and Ampere reads on avg 2200-2400ma so no problems there.
I am employed at a local sales store doing repairs and still have access to old along with a new supplier, haven't actually compared 1:1 yet but I might be able to get the parts for cheaper than a new phone. I wouldn't want a used one, wouldn't be able to stand going from a pristine N6 to one that god knows what happened to it or how many scratches it has on it or what the solder connections look like lol, I'd rather keep my board that I know everything is good or if I could grab a new 64gb board when they are reasonably priced lol.

This one does go down fully to 1% no problems and has been holding up to the frequent charge cycles I put it through as I run it @ 3.0GHz cpu / 800MHz gpu and tethering running 24/7 putting 300-500 GB's a month over Sprints 20 MHz Band 41 and never use anything but Qualcomm certified Quickcharge 3.0 chargers (yes I know N6 is only 2.0/future proofing ftw). However the stock charger burnt out a loooong time ago, I have been running with an Aukey PA-T9 wall charger & Anker Powerline+ 6Ft cable and Ampere reads on avg 2200-2400ma so no problems there.
I am employed at a local sales store doing repairs and still have access to old along with a new supplier, haven't actually compared 1:1 yet but I might be able to get the parts for cheaper than a new phone. I wouldn't want a used one, wouldn't be able to stand going from a pristine N6 to one that god knows what happened to it or how many scratches it has on it or what the solder connections look like lol, I'd rather keep my board that I know everything is good or if I could grab a new 64gb board when they are reasonably priced lol.

I also think that replacing the battery is totally worth the hassle... I did it on mine as I was getting shutdowns at below 30% and the hissing speaker sound. I bought the OEM battery off of eBay, which was very very legit 1:1 as the one I pulled out of the phone, every single letter was matching. Even though I managed to f&ck up the power and volume cable during replacement and I had to buy a new one and spent another $6, for total of $20 I'm in a very good spot... I've had my N6 since release date and still love it. If you think about it, what better phone can you get that is vanilla Android and has beautiful design? The pixel for 1K? No thanks...

I love my Shamu, but I'm probably gonna upgrade in late Winter/early Spring of 2018. There are few things I don't like about this phone. Thanks! I'm getting shutdowns at 4%, once got it at 10%. AccuBattery says I have 2550 mAh per charge, out of the 3220 mAh original capacity, so I'll probably wait another month, while getting more opinions.

Z3TC battery replacement?

I've searched the web for a replacement battery, but they are apparently hard to come by and not cheap. Is there a reason for this?
I got about three good years of daily use out of my battery. But it's been slowly downhill since. Streaming video, I get maybe 2 hours screen on time right now, and the percentage is screwy. That isn't horrible per se, but it's only going to get worse.
Has anybody here replaced their battery? And/or, any recommendations for a replacement? Galaxy Tab S2 seems nice. Media Pad M5 has better specs and I think has band 12, but is more expensive and is Huawei.

Android tablets are almost dead. I'd get a 2018 iPad if I were you. The new iPad is great value for money at just $329
But if you really want android, chromebook tablets should be good or if you can find Sony z4 tablet, that's good too.

Z4 tablet isn't pocketable. iPad doesn't work as a cell phone (and is iOS).

I love my Z3 tablet compact. But the battery on it has gone into bulge/swell mode, so much so that it actually pushed the screen off the frame. This is now a safety issue so I need to have it replaced, but it's seemingly impossible to find a replacement, and Sony itself is not helping ("we no longer support this"). Does anyone have a source for a compatible replacement? I wouldn't mind if it didn't have the exact same specs, it's just gotta fit in and work
It's odd, I have both a Z2 tablet and a Z3 tablet compact, and both their batteries went into expansion/bulge phase a week from each other. I'm now actually keeping both of them in a metal box with bottled water all around them for fear of fire; I do NOT want to throw them away (working fine otherwise). But I desperately need replacement batteries, and Sony is of no help whatsoever.

I eventually bought a Mediapad M5 8.4. The bands are a little different (but fine for T-Mo or AT&T), it's not nearly as light, and I miss Intelligent Backlight Control of all things. But it's a viable replacement with better specs, the media/multitasking experience is better and the screen is better. Ran me $450.
Lenovo Tab 4 Plus 8 is another viable solution, it is about as compact as the Z3TC and the 64/4GB version can be bought for $350.

update for anyone who is interested -
it turns out that Sony Hong Kong still lists the Z3 Tablet compact as a supported device and apparently can get parts for it (though not instantly - I was given a two-week lead time for the battery).
There is a HK$150 diagnosis fee, and the replacement battery is another HK$150, which sounded fair to me so I gave them the go ahead.
Incidentally this does NOT include waterproofing, and they quoted me, for a battery replacement AND waterproofing, over HK$2000 (currently above US$250). I decided I could live without waterproofing.

just hk 300 in total?! wow. i have just used toothpick to poke my battery. waterproofing is the sticky foam rim.
would they wipe your tablet? if yes, no thanks for me.

I was pleasantly surprised by the battery price (I kind of wanted the waterproofing but HKD2000+ is too much). they said they might wipe (you can't backup?).
what do you mean toothpick to poke? You mean to release the "swelling" of the battery? I've heard that is a VERY BAD IDEA. it's apparently hydrogen + various toxic gases inside. Plus chance of catching fire?

don't like the idea need to install everything and config again. pls let us know if it wipe. if not i may change battery if the battery finally dies.
mine is just swollen but can keep charge, very strange.

how long do you need to let them keep your toy for repairs please?
or u can take it away while u r waiting for the battery.
if they are willing to sell me the battery and gasket tape. i would rather do it myself than their technicician.

swollen doesn't mean it won't hold charge.
What I understand is it means the materials inside have broken down, and gas is being generated, a mix of hydrogen (flammable) and other not-good-for-human-exposure substances. If what I read is correct, once it starts swelling, if you keep using it (more charge/discharge cycles) you are going to generate even more gas and making it more likely to eventually combust. I think you're asking for trouble to keep using it.
Sony HK took my device in, and are estimating 2-3 weeks turnaround time (they need to obtain the parts from somewhere). I do not expect them to sell you parts. They will also need to see proof of purchase before taking your device in (I think to check it's not a stolen device etc.).

I don't have receipt anymore. Such stupid policy.

Ok, a further update - was ready for collection last week, have picked it up, everything seems to work. Total HKD299 spent to replace battery. My tablet was NOT wiped, i.e. everything was as I submitted it (I figure since it's a battery and not logic-board swap, the technician wasn't going to do unnecessary work anyway), but I think it's a requirement to sign an acknowledgement that everything could be wiped, I think you can't get around it if they do. I checked and they will NOT sell you parts, it must be a service submission + you must have proof of purchase (I bought mine online - the e mail acknowledgement was good enough for them).
alancai, there seems to be consensus on the people I've checked with + websites I've looked at that what you're doing w.r.t. poking holes to release the gas buildup is potentially dangerous. You *might* be selflessly volunteering to force Sony to implement a global battery swap/replacement program once yours catches fire/kills you/does something that puts the "Sony" brand in the news, but I'm not sure the Sony user community should demand this level of sacrifice from you... .

battery already poked. so as my MacBook battery poked. both still keep charge. but 300 hkd is ok if from official outsource company. even taobao battery and the sticker rim would cost almost half of 300.

Do I need a new battery for my 3t?

Okay, I mainly notice large battery drain when updating apps, I've not turned on my 3T for a week or so, had around 48 apps to update, updated using WiFi, it knock my 100 percent charge down to 80 percent, my 3T is my spare phone, as I use my oneplus 7 Pro as my main phone.
I know app updates can be processor hogs, but should my battery drop 20 percent?
Generally while say surfing using WiFi, I'd say I lose one percent every two to three minutes, brightness at around 20 percent.
Phone is running the latest oneplus updates.
Still a fantastic little phone.

There isn't a 3T in the wild that couldn't benefit from a new battery. Your drain seems excessive in the scenario you described, compared to my own. If it were me, i'd consider sending it into a repair centre for a new battery. My own concern right now is how long OP are going to have OEM batteries available for this device. While i'm still happy with my own battery life, i am intending to send it in when the need arises. I have a fall-back phone to use in the meantime, but i don't want to leave it to late.
Honestly, the 3/T is the best Android phone ever created. Not only does the hardware hold up well, (anyone remember the Nexus 1 Power Button wearing out...?), but the software support has far exceeded anything that might have been expected. I will still be using mine years from now providing i can still get a battery, if needed. Get one while you still can.

I had read good things about batteries by a company called Polarcell, I spotted them on ebay for £20 delivered, I'd be happy enough to replace the battery myself, as the price from oneplus would kind of make my pre-owned mint condition 3T that I only paid £60 delivered kind of bumped up in price.
I read about the Polarcell batteries over on the oneplus 3 forum.. Tempted to try one.

Aliexpress in the States are still selling new 3T's for $200. I'd buy one in a heartbeat if i could get one in the UK for that price. So half that for a new OEM battery is a no-brainer for me. My 3T is has been naked for three years and looks like the day it first arrived. Not one single scratch or blemish.
My fallback phone is a brand new OP5. It runs the same ROM and setup as my 3T. Logic would dictate swapping that in as my daily driver, as it undoubtably runs faster. I can't bring myself to do it though. My 3T will be my DD until it dies, or i die. Whichever comes first.

I installed Accubattery and it appears based on the apps information my battery is currently working at around 2850mah, which is around a 15 percent degradation from when the battery was new (3400mah) sooo I'm thinking it is kind of not yet worth changing the battery, but I guess that is another good sign of the quality of the Oneplus products and the parts they use.

Yeah, we hit the jackpot! In your situation i don't really see the need for spending any money right now. Stick it in a box, keep it updated, and if you ever need a backup phone, it's good to go.

I'm wondering if the battery capacity being 2450 mAh is enough to call for an urgent battery replacement. What do you guys think?
