Slow Data? - T-Mobile LG G4

Has anyone had issues where going from wifi to mobile your mobile data is crazy slow? I've been noticing that once i get to work my 4g lte is only at like .25-1 mb/s, but if I reboot or change to airplane mode and back again it goes back up to the 20mb/s range.

Even wifi feels slow. Idk why...

Same thing on Verizon. I've gone through 3 Sim cards thinking that was it.. Glad I'm not the only one seeing this.

The T-Mobile variant definitely has WiFi issues. My cellular data is fine but WiFi is a total crap shoot.

Very true. My TMO H811 will just randomly stop transmitting data when on WiFi. Turning off WiFi and turning it back usually fixes the issue temporarily, but because of the issue, I only use WiFi when I'm controlling my HA devices and my XBone.
Thankfully I have unlimited data, so I can do w/o WiFi.

Glad to see I'm not the only one experiencing this. It's annoying. I'm connected to 5 Ghz WiFi, I haven't tested 2.4 Ghz yet.

I tested 2.4 GHz today and despite some of the claims I've seen, it isn't any better. I'm pretty sure my WiFi issues are getting worse day by day.

Mobile Hotspot issues - incredibly slow??

Anyone having this issue? My hotspot is brutally slow. Most of the pages don't even load and when I can get a speed test to run, its below 1mb. The phones speed is standard LTE speeds of 20mb around this area.
Is there even anything Verizon can do about this or is the phone messed up?
Thanks.
Is it the offiical Big Red Hotspot ? or are you rooted?
I get 26mbps download on the 4g through the phone, and 12mbps on the laptop when using hotspot. Everything seems to be working as intended, could be a problem with defects.

Legit hot spot.
i have the legit wifi hotspot too. the speeds are all over the place. i have a problem with connectivity. i can only last a few minutes then it disconnects and sometimes reconnts or i have to reconnect it. sometimes my phone reboots when turning off the wifi hotspot. anyone else have similar issues? i do have to say that the usb tethering option has been flawless and very fast.

Wifi Issues?

Is anyone else having an issue where your device will be hooked up to a wifi network, will still indicate you're connected but no data will sync? I email myself and nothing happens. Happens with FB, Email, Gmail, and Voice Controls don't work.

I have that issue with my gNex and my wife's DNA on our home network. I don't think it is necessarily this phone, but I am not convinced (yet) that it is my router, either...

I called Moto and after dealing with their terrible level 1 support I got the following:
HERE ARE THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR DOING THE WIPE CACHE PARTITION:
This will remove any temporary files that may be causing the problem, but will not delete your files or settings.
1. With the phone powered off, press the VOL DOWN KEY for 2-3 seconds then POWER key then release.
2. The device will display different BOOT OPTIONS
3. Use the VOL DOWN Key to SCROLL to Recovery and VOL UP Key to select
Tip: If the device reboots, you may have waited to long to make a selection, you will need to begin the process again.
4. The device will display the Motorola logo and then the Android in distress ( logo with Exclamation mark)
5. Press and hold the VOL UP key for 10-15 seconds. While still holding the VOL UP key tap and release the POWER key
Tip: You can try this step, holding the phone in landscape. If you are stuck on step 6, try a force reboot by pressing the Power key and Vol Down key, and start the process again.
6. The device will display additional menu options (Text will appear in BLUE)
7. Use the VOL DOWN Key to scroll to wipe cache partition and the POWER Key to select this option
8. The device will then perform the partition wipe
9. The device will reboot and start the normal power up sequence
Ever since it hasn't had any problems, but it's only been a few hours as well.

If it doesn't work properly with a different router try exchanging it. Also have you gone into advanced WiFi settings and forced the moto x to 2.4 GHz? If give that a try.

The force to 2.4ghz actually made the problem occur a lot faster, any reason it might be due to the massive amount of wifi networks around? When I set to scan 5 ghz there was only one still open, I might go into my router and see if I can change the atenna settings.
EDIT: Turns out if I go to 5 ghz my computer can't connect, but I changed the channel to something less populated in the area to see if that helps.
DOUBLE EDIT: It appears to occur after I'm supposed to get a Facebook notification, at that point I don't get any more notifications....attempting to clear out facebook data and cache to see if that does anything

You mean full reset? It looks like I may have to do that with the idle battery drain issue anyways....so that's the last resort.
Hey guys I'm having a similar issue with my moto x on the 2.4ghz band. Speeds are very slow and sometimes cut out completely. Im getting a download speed of about 300kb/s on 2.4 both on auto channel and it doesn't rlly change once I change it manually to an open channel using WiFi analyzer app. My download speeds on 5ghz hit 4000kb/s even with a much lower signal strength.
YouTube and Netflix is unusable and growing the internet sucks. I usually just use the 4g network while at home cuz its a thousand times faster but I'd like this to be fixed regardless. Has anyone found a solution or explanation?

I'm having these issues too. Got the GSM Developer Edition on 11/29. It immediately updated to Kit Kat OTA so I'm not sure whether it had the issue prior to Kit Kat or not. This only happens on 2.4 ghz wifi and only with one of my routers at home, a Netgear WNDR3700v2 running OpenWrt Attitude Adjustment (I tried upgrading from Backfire to see if it would help, it did not). The other router is a Linksys WRT350N and when the phone is connected to that one the problem does not happen. Note, that there are 2 laptops, a Samsung Galaxy S2, and a Kindle Fire HDX that have zero problems with the WNDR3700. All can transfer data perfectly fine and at high speeds. Thus I do not think the router is bad. Have not checked work routers. 5 ghz wifi is totally fine and indeed very good with this phone.
For me, the problem is that the phone seems unable to receive data at high speed (over 1Mbps) on 2.4 ghz wifi in any area where the signal isn't perfect and sometimes even in the same room as the router (although usually it is fine there). Oddly in many cases when it has trouble receiving it can send data much faster. It almost seems like it might be some kind of interference as it is rather random.
At this point I'm wondering if the phone has a defective 2.4ghz subsystem, though that seem unlikely due to good transfer with the WRT350N, or if this is some kind of wifi tuning software bug in the phone.
Any info would be appreciated. Does anyone have this issue who did not have the issue on Jellybean? Am wondering if anything changed with wifi for the update? Note, I have tried clearing the cache in recovery as noted in another thread with no luck. Anyone have the WCNSS_qcom_cfg.ini file from Jellybean for this phone? Would rather not reflash just for 1 file.
Thanks.

For what it's worth I have this same Netgear router and have had the same connectivity issues on both 4.2.2 and 4.4.
I did some reading today and found a couple possible fixes I plan on trying out. First one is to disable WMM. Secondly I found on the official netgear forums that they have had major issues (some of which you've described) with all firmwares ending in the .30s and went so far as to pull them from their download section.
My router was running firmware .36 and I successfully downgraded it to the latest stable firmware .12 that netgear now recommends.
Hopefully 1 of those 2 fixes improves the performance, at any rate I really think it's something with the router itself and not the moto x.

Thanks for letting me know this was also an issue on 4.2.2. Saves me the trouble of flashing back just to test.
I will be interested to know if your using official netgear 1.0.0.12 firmware fixes the issue for you. I haven't actually ever used the official firmware as I've run OpenWRT since I got the router a year or two ago. 10.03.1 had the issue, and it appears 12.09 does as well. I may try a trunk build at some point to see if that changes anything.
I had previously written that all was well on the 5 ghz band. This appears to not be 100% correct. Yesterday evening and this morning I found myself "connected" to the 5ghz band without actually having working internet. Toggle wifi on/off fixes it, but I shouldn't have to do it.
Not sure if this helps, but on the 2.4 ghz side things do work better on one side of the house vs the other. Also it seems that I can get a very fast connection at times and then it stumbles and gets stuck going under 1 Mbps. I still suspect either a defect or some kind of low level radio issues with the moto or the router regarding interference from neighboring wifi access points (there are a lot around me, single family houses on small lots). However, keep in mind no other device has these issues but the moto. In the rare instance I venture into a bad signal pocket the signal indicator goes down and speed slows or they lose connection vs the moto where it can show excellent signal and have no/nearly no connectivity.
I haven't tried it for long, but switching to wireless g mode vs ng may improve stability though I only briefly tried it. I did walk around part of my house checking the Mbps with the app "WiFi Speed Test" and while way slower than N mode it was far more stable. Even if this does work it is a definate downgrade in speed though.
Well its only been a day or two so it may be too early to tell, but so far my wifi seems much better after making those two fixes I mentioned above. This is on 2.4 band, the 5ghz band doesn't provide me enough signal strength to use all the time (router is too far from my bedroom).
The main issue I was having was my wifi signal would cut out even though it still showed a good connection. I could swipe down on the status bar and see no download arrow next to the wifi icon so I knew I wasn't receiving data. However a simple disconnect and reconnect to my wifi would fix the problem until it happened again. This seemed to be most common while watching YouTube videos, in fact it happened far too often which is why I went searching for a solution.
So as I mentioned things seem to be better for sure so far but I need to give it a week or so to see how much it is really helped, but so far I can't remember any wifi cutting out since I've made those two fixes.

[Q] WiFi Bounce During Poor Cell Coverage

So I have noticed this problem since the 4.3 upgrades have been out and it continues through the 4.4.2.
I have this problem at home on WiFi, when I am at home I have terrible cell coverage usually bouncing between no coverage and one bar. It seems that when I am bouncing between no cell coverage and one bar my WiFi drops and immediately reconnects.
I had originally thought that my access point was the culprit as I hadn't noticed it happening when I dropped in and out of cell coverage. So I replaced my WiFi system as the one I was on was 8-10 years old. So upgraded to new hardware (WiFi) and tried both 2.4g and 5g and problem persisted.
I have used stock roms, and others, currently on ViperOne 5.8. I have updated to the most current firmware along the way, I even flashed a full RUU and started over last weekend. In addition I have this issue on all three devices in the house (all HTC One M7's).
So today I tried something I should have thought of sooner. I put the phone in airplane mode and then turned on WiFi and noticed that the problem went away, consistent WiFi, no WiFi drop, bounce, etc.
So anyone have an idea as to why this would happen and how I can solve it or is it something that is not solvable except by HTC/Google?
Thanks all.

I think this is an HTC bug. I've seen many users here complain of this on the Sprint model. I have the same issue as well. I have mine set so I can see if I am on 4G or 3G even while I am connected to WiFi. I notice this bug happens exclusively (and nearly every time) when the phone goes from 4G -> 3G.

I don't have 4G in my area so that isn't a factor for me but I can see potentially this happening between 2G and 3G and I am usually roaming here so that would make sense.

Most of the people I've seen with this problem had it start with the latest radio or the one before it. The latest radio definitely does not fix it here.
This also happens to me at home while connected to my WiFi , really annoying ,or sometimes if I'm at work .no WiFi connection ,it'll show I have 3g but won't let me load pages.

I had that problem as well, I even called Sprint, and they sent me an Airave which is on it's way now. Yet, the tower near my house (6 miles away) was fixed-ish today and it stops that whole reconnect and disconnect garbage. Plus, I get lte in about 80% of my house. This wifi mess was going on since December and I put my phone on roaming most of the time to make it a little more stable.
Just reporting back. I reverted to the previous radio this morning and my connection seemed to stay on. Not sure if I'm trippin or if it really is working better .gomna test it out some more and flash the newest radio and check if there's a difference.

moto x pure att WIFI kills data signal

Issue: While connected to my EA6900 (1900 AC) linksys wireless modem my data dies. If I turn off wifi, I am able to call out, (although patchy), get texts, and use android services. As soon as I turn on wifi, these services all seem to shut down. Although sometimes some data is able to eak through.
Background: I am using a Moto x (2014) Pure Edition on the AT&T Network. I have confirmed time and time again that wireless works on my network, I have a full wifi signal and decent LTE signal (unsure how strong -- it shows 2-3 bars). I had this problem initially in 4.4.4 and it persists in 5.0 (I updated to see if that would fix the issue. Previously I had and HTC One with no issues what so ever. Reboots do not fix this issue and ATT has told me it is not their problem.
Hypothesis: I think the Moto X 2014 has problem connecting on the 5ghz (duel band) or AC networks. I have noticed while at work or other locations, I have had no connectivity issues with wifi on. I am pretty sure they are using standard 2.4ghz G and or N connections. I believe that the phone is unable to switch between the range of bands and causes it to lose data connectivity.
Has anyone had this issue or can anyone correct it?
I don't have an ac or 5ghz router so I can't test this. Have you played with the WiFi frequency band under advanced WiFi? You can force connect to 5ghz or 2.4ghz.
You could also turn off ac on the router configuration page to see if you can connect on n.
When I have time I will play around on my network to try and force the connection to different protocols. I have an AC router from EnGenius it's their ESR1200 which is a consumer grade device but pretty nice over all and was a steal at $60 over on Amazon:
http://www.engeniustech.com/home-networking/routers/16742-esr1200
But will try a few options. Right now I have it connected to the 5ghz band w/o issue. I can add I have long encountered issues for Android when moving between wifi networks. It has always been prone to struggling to juggle connections, even when switching nodes on a mono-SSID network. I can trace my issues back to Jelly Bean. But it seems like you are seeing something different.
If I find anything I'll post it soon as time permits, busy week for me at work or I might get lucky and just die in my sleep.
EDIT: For giggles I forced a connection to the 5ghz side and sent some texts as well as a couple calls w/o issue. Was able to receive as well. Mode is .11n of course and a solid 433mbps network connection speed
This is where my hypothesis really dies... I have attempted forcing 2.4 or 5ghz but both failed. The other option is the phone doesnt play nice with the EA6900... which is seemingly supported by the fact that my phone hasnt had any issues while i am connected to my parents house for thankgsiving. They are running 2.4ghz at a blazing 65mbps (i usually average around 400 at my house on my ea6900). Could it be the AC modem? One other thought is chromecast is somehow interfering with my phone. I will need to try removing chromecast when i get home to see if that works, but at this point, i would find it hard to imagine.
This is literally driving me up a wall.
EDIT: So I am at home at it has been running better but just now it has decided to seize up. Showing same info... 2.4ghz 65mpbs same network... full bars.... att shows 3/5 bars but doesnt say LTE or H or anything..just ATT (pretty sure thats normal)

5.0Ghz wifi not showing after pie update.

So I bought note 9 two days ago and it was on Samsung experience 9.5, oreo 8.1. I have a dual band D link router which has both 5.0Ghz and 2.4Ghz wifi. But after pie update the phone is not picking the 5ghz band at all. I have reset the phone clear cache and also changed router settings.
I think its a software problem of one ui. Is any one facing this issue? Anying I can do to get back 5.0Ghz?
Any suggestion will be appreciated.
Not sure what is causing your problem, don't think it's anything to do with Pie update.
I have been using Pie for months and use 5Ghz wi fi without issues.
Also haven't read of others having similar issues on this forum .

Tried with app and still nothing. I have reset the phone, cleared cache and still nothing. Mine is a exynos model and it's update handled by Malaysian samsung team.
After One ui pie I don't even see 4k 60 fps recording in rear camera option. It's an awful update. So many things are missing. They need to work on one ui.

I have had a similar problem before and since the Pie update. I use 5 ghz band in the same room as my router. 2 Apple devices and my LGV20 are connected to the same 5ghz band. I used wifi analyzer to choose the best channel which for me is channel 40. The other devices hold signal even after sleeping. My Note 9 (unlocked American version) sometimes just loses internet. There is an exclamation point next to the wifi icon. When I check wifi analyzer the signal strength is fine (lower absolute value than 60 or higher value than -60 dbm). The worst thing is once the exclamation point appears (meaning no internet despite retained connection to router) it will never reconnect to internet unless I turn phone wifi off and on. Resetting router has no effect. I reserved an ip for the Note 9 and put the phone on fixed ip so it won't get booted by another device. I'm at my witts end.

If you search the internet you will. Lots of us have wifi icon suddenly show an exclamation point next to it
This means good connection but NO INTERNET! This despite other devices on same 5 ghz network have no problem. Wifi analyzer shows good signal and no competing networks.
The temp fix is wifi off wifi on now it reconnects and everything is fine for 20 minutes or several hours but eventually the exclamation point is back. If it would reconnect or at least try to reconnect it would work but it just sits there waiting for me to do manually.
If we had Bixby routines like the GS10 I would write a routine to toggle wifi when there is no internet but the problem is the wifi IS connected to the router so there is probably no way to write that as a routine... and we don't get routines anyway.
I agree it isn't due to Pie in fact mine is slightly more stable since pie but still that damn exclamation point!

Every time I turn off my snapdragon U.S. version note 9, I have to stand very close to the router for like ten minutes before going upstairs to my room. I have to be standing close to it before it gets picked up by the 5gz wifi. If I do not stand next to it for 10 mins after turning my phone off then on, it will not pick up the 5ghz. I know that sounds simple, but it worked for me.
(I tried first: changing wifi channels, restarting the router, turning off the 2ghz and not the 5ghz, changed passwords for each, I mean everything.)
Hope that helps!

That might help the op who posted months ago and likely solved his problem or returned his phone.
No, as I explained mine always connects and may remain connected for hours or for minutes. It never disconnects. It remains connected to router but stops receiving internet randomly at any time (connected wifi icon with ! next to it
I only use wifi in the same room as the router. It is my mancave and I spend all leisure time at home in that room. I shut off the wifi and the phone before bed. I have unlimited lte data but 5 ghz wifi is way faster. 2.4 ghz is perfectly stable but no faster than LTE+

5ghz AC wifi has always worked for me on any channel, running openwrt on my tplink archer c7 router.
N960F running latest devbase pie rom.
That's good for you but no help to the rest of us. I guess one might deduce my phone is faulty but if so a LOT of Samsung phones have had this flaw for years back to the s7.. I figured if anyone in the world knew the solution he would be in XDA

What roms have you tried?
Why don’t you downgrade to Oreo and see if it works again?
It was the same in Oreo. My phone is stock unlocked Note9 on VZW.
