With a note 4 you need root to get four Windows at the same time

Ah, so pherphaps it's possible with a rooted note 5?

Yes, I did hear the feature called Pen Window, that my Note 3 has, is not in the new Note. I can live with 2 only though, only used 3 or 4 to show off "feature" to others, never for practical application.

The 2 windows isn't cutting it for me on my s6 :/
I can't think of any android device that can do more besides the huge note 12
Typical scenario is
1 windows for instant messaging
1 for browsing
1 for YouTube
Right now I just run two and switch 1 app for the third app but when I do my phone lags because the s6 ram management kills my apps in the background

Pen window was a note 3 feature. The note 4 (and 5) has a bubble/pop up window. You click on a app in the side menu and it opens in a floating window. I think you can have 5 floating windows at a time. You can minimize these windows to bubbles that you can move.
I have not heard that this behavior has changed any in the Note 5.

My s6 has foating windows, but you can't work in 3 at once. I know you can on the note 12

What device did you upgrade from and how's your experience with the Note 4?

Tell us if the Note 4 is all you thought it would be?
Like I said before, these are all from within a year lol.... I switched from an iphone last November 2013
First was a Xperia Z1 (battery life was eh), Galaxy S4, HTC One M7, Galaxy S5 (only thing I miss is water resistance), LG G3 (love this phone but screen was not that great and very dim in the daytime) and now to my love of my life note 4! BEAUTIFUL! only thing I don't like is no option for soft keys (menu key has LAG and I don't like the Back button on the right side.

Galaxy S4. Experience has been underwhelming. Wonky GPS (loses the signal if phone is resting on my leg in the car), some apps occasionally think there is no wifi connection when there is (and being used by other apps). Aesthetically, it's a bit boxy for my taste. ART runtime isn't ready for actual use (causes the system to "update" 66 apps when I boot, extending boot time to about 5 mins, every time).

I came from a Galaxy S3 and so far I'm really loving my new device. I was really close to getting the S5 but a few days/weeks after the S5 announcement, I started to read about the Note 4. It was a loooong wait but well worth it. The screen is amazing and just the size alone will make surfing the web and watching videos a lot more enjoyable.
I've played with the S-Pen and really enjoy it, which brings me to my question. I can't seem to figure out how to use the s-pen like a mouse when selecting text. I know there is an slightly different method using Air Command for this type of thing but I'm looking for the mouse-like text selecting. I thought that all I had to do was hold the button on the s-pen then drag and slide to select but it's not working for me. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Just hold the button on the S-Pen and hover over the text and you'll see a line that will allow you to select the text.

My wife bought a 6+ when it was released. I've used it some.
From the original Galaxy ---through--> Galaxy S4 -> Note...skipped the S5 because I had the Note II -> Note III -> Now .....NOTE 4
Extremely happy with it. Can't gripe about much but here are some things I really wish they kept on or added*:
USB 3.0
Tempreture Sensor
Humidity Sensor
Speaker on the bottom and not on the back like it is now on the Note 4
4GB of RAM*
Here are the things I'm very grateful for:
The best screen EVER to date
Faster CPU
Faster GPU
METAL!
Better Camera/Sensor
Slightly bigger battery
Relocation of the SIM and microSD slot! No longer have to remove battery like you did on the Note 3
Redesigned rear cover (MUCH better, no more fake stitching)
Curved 2.5D screen
Heart Rate/O2 Sensor
UV Sensor....ehhh...either way pretty cool, but I'd rather have a TEMP and HUMIDITY sensor instead
METAL!
Did I say METAL?!
Finally what we've all been waiting for. A phone that feels like a million bucks in your hand.

I agree with you on that. My wife loves her iPhone as well.
The latest device I came from is the LG G3. Before that from last year, I went through the Xperia Z, HTC One M7, LG G2, Xperia Z1, before settling on Nexus 5.
I love the Note so far, first note I've tried. One thing I don't like is the lag from pressing the recents button, but I can live with it. Also not fond of the gap on the right side as I constantly have to blow the dust out, but again I can live with it. All in all best phone I've used so far and touchwiz is not as bad as it was before.
One thing though, I do like to use the pen to write my texts or Web addresses sometimes, and it's quite finicky in terms of recognizing what I type out. Sometimes I have to erase and retry several times which is annoying.

Note 3 vs. Note 4 - for anyone still on the fence

Had a friend record a video and I produced it, just in case anyone is on the fence about upgrading or is trying to decide if the price jump is worth it!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBDR-jqLTf8
Had the note 3 and sold it due to its proximity sensor not working. Wish I hadn't. Have the note 4 now and love it. To be honest the only real difference to me is the new build quality. Less plastic and more metal.
The note 3 seemed just as fast and great. I would have bought another note 3 but they were selling only 100 euros less than the note 4
Some it was better in note 3...note 4 is needed updates asap
I have all the Samsung Note.
The difference for me between a Note 3 and 4 is all speed and screen.
I'm so happy with the upgrade and I must say I didn't expect to be so impressed about the difference.
So satisfied, but battery is hopelessly bad .
Like Note 1 and 2 the battery drain is ridiculous.

No the sensor was not installed properly and since the device was rooted the knox was tripped. So warranty no go!
I always rushed in upgrading Samusng phones like I bought note 2 and note 3 brand new after few days of launch but not any more. I believe the price difference is not worth spending as of now so I am waiting for price to go down.
I got my upgrade yesterday from note 3 to note 4 and apart from the build quality and the camera there doesnt seem to be that much of a difference if im honest.
i use it for work and was a little disappointed that knox was not available on the 910f model yet, i also tried my knox but that doesn't work on this model at the moment either.
apart from that it's all good ☺
It's not a 'shut up and take my money'
It's like a 'go back to the labs'
note edge looks more attractive. if it has borders on 4 edges I would say 'shut up and take my money'
I'll hold my N3 for a while. the gap prices are short in my country.

I'm sure Samsung know that metal is less than ideal on a phone, it's a stupid fad.
Note 4 has sharp edges too. It also has that bevelled edge to the glass which is great if you run without a protector but terrible if you do I hated the 2 for that.
Definitely not moving from the 3 to a sharp edged phone, my 4 upgrade in January will most likely get sold immediately.

Really 910F doesn't support MyKnox app?
Is this temporary? Or F doesn't include any knox chips or whatever?
Still testing knox on my 910C and seems that it's pretty nice feature.

I'm so sorry for You but even if Knox was tripped You can ask for a repair in warranty if You live in Europe. I'm a consumer lawyer and for my clients I always get warranty service from Samsung even if they try to refuse the reparations.

My experience with the Note 4 is almost the opposite, apart from the screen. Battery life on my Note 4 is very good, at the end of the evening always between 30 and 40% left.
Speed of the device is a different story, stutters all over the place. Totally random, while switching launcher pages, scrolling through calendar or contacts (appr. 120 contacts) and other apps with "list view". My Note is 100% stock.
Not to forget, the fingerprintscanner is an annoying piece of hardware. Having my right thumb fingerprint registered 3 times I always have to swipe more than once/twice in order to unlock.
I'm absolutely not happy with the "update"!!

Well I would have done that, I live in Germany but it would have taken them quite a bit of time. I sold it for 500 euros and explained the issue to the buyer. I bought a nexus 5 and Nexus 7 2013 with that money. To my surprise the Nexus series do NOT accept USB OTG natively. I had to get Stickmount from Chainfire to use any additional storage. It really made me wish for my note 3 back even with the sensor issue.
When my wife got the s5, I immediately realized why I like Touchwhiz and its lag. It comes out of the box with a lot of features that other devices need root for..
Like USB OTG
Customized quick settings
All share, (no need for all cast)
Also its cameras are always better with its features.
Plus micro sd
Battery removal and last but not least, It comes with in my opinion the best screens. I love Super OMLED.

It sounds like you don't have the latest firmware.
I can't make my phone lag at all.
I can scroll as fast as I in contacts (988) pictures (764)
with out any lagging.
If you take a picture and press the photo on the left lower corner.
If it doesn't pop up instantly I guess your phone is on the same firmware as min was before I updated.
It was lagging in every way before update.

You're right, I don't have the latest firmware.
i got note4 cheap so upgrade was right to do.
in my opinion they polished everything that was not so good on note3 like edge, camera, adding fingerprint lock, front camera, fast charge and for me usb 2.0.
but if someone would ask me would you pay 50% more to get note 4 i would say no.
Biggest disadvantage on note 4 is that he does not have temperature and humidity sensor (((

Should i buy a galaxy note 4 in 2016?

I'm coming from a nexus 4, is this phone good enough for the 2016? also how good is the fingerprint scanner? i want this phone for the screen resolution and the size. can anybody tell me if this phone still hangs well in 2016. i want this phone to be my daily driver until at least 2017.

Still the best phone on the market.

That's a hard one for me to answer. To me it looks like any other screen (because I keep the brightness down to save battery) But! when I turn the brightness up, Wait it still looks the same lol. My guess is I'm just not taking advantage of the quad HD display. An HD game may change that. Please wait while I download an HD game and test it with brightness up. Still waiting for 500mb download. We appreciate your patience, The next available representative will be with you shortly...... OK, Download and test complete. Just looks like a normal HD screen to me. The reason I decided on the note 4 over any other newer note was that the verizon version has svlte. I don't know about other carriers. The galaxy s5 also has svlte. It just means that you can make calls and use data at the same time when you're not on wifi. Am I happy with my recent purchase? Yes I am. The only things I don't like? I wish it were the size of the s5,s6,s7... I have small hands. But I just had to have the note features. Hey samsung if you're listening MAKE A NOTE THAT'S THE SAME SIZE AS THE GALAXY S SERIES. And the second thing, I came from the LG G4 to this so it had a low light camera that I really liked. The note 7 is the one you'd have to get if you want that. OK back to this now.
So lets get to the specs, How is the note 4 better than the nexus 4?
1. note 4 is bigger if that's what you like
2. has the s-pen
3. almost double resolution
4. an extra gig of ram
5.Higher pixels per inch
6. Better camera with slow motion, fast motion, Smooth motion aka 60fps which looks amazingly clear.
7. faster processor
8.faster GPU
9.more storage space
And I'm sure their is more. But with that said if you're looking for something a little more flashy, You might consider the Galaxy note edge. It's the exact same phone as the note 4. Except it has an independent display on the edge of the phone (not like the s6 and s7 edge.) BUT!!! one downfall to the phone is that it does NOT have svlte. But then again that is on the verizon version. I don't know about other carriers etc. But yeah I'm happy with my note 4 and I think you will be too as long as you have big enough hands to handle it.

Stock DPI is a problem. Its the last Samsung phone with really ****ty old school touchwiz. Its also not gonna get Nougat. If you are willing (or want) to go custom ROM its probably still one of the best phones you can get for the money.

Can I ask what is wrong with the stock DPI? Is that more of a personal preference? As far as the touchwiz I agree some things I don't like about it. But nothing that I can't and haven't already masked with a launcher. Also according to this website the note 4 will be getting nougat http://www.rootupdate.com/2016/07/Name-of-samsung-devices-upgrading-to-nougat-70.html
Aside from that I personally don't think anything in nougat has caught my interest unless it brings specific updates to the note series rather than just a different name with a couple new broad spectrum features that work for any device running it.
EDIT: after reading more on that site they mention down in the comments that note 4 will be had through cm14. So I posted a comment and am waiting for the writer of the site to respond. Like I was saying though I'm not feeling like I'm missing out on nougat since it doesn't seem like it offers much.

It's easy to change the launcher!
That being said, absolutely love my N910c.
Blazing fast with everything I do and ridiculously long battery life.
Love that it plays games as smooth as the iPhone.
Can't say that about other androids even some of the top 2016 models
So is there any other phone you guys recommend than the note 4? maybe the oneplus 2?

Performance wise, it can still compete with the newest phones on the market and no phone can match it's features. This will likely be the last samsung devise truly targeted at power-users.
Only other devices I would consider if I had to replace would be nexus 6p or pixel.

No. I would even argue that 3 isn't clearly "better." What n4 has over 3 are following:
Spen + software utility
Expandable storage
camera (maybe)
Higher resolution
Ir blaster
Removable battery
Lower price
That being said, all this is relative to your own use and expectations from a device. If some or all the things listed above are not important than the oneplus 3 (and several other phones for that matter) may be a better choice for you.
For my use there are currently no worthy compromises. Add that to the fact that performance improvements (outside benchmarking apps) are negligible.

S8+ vs Note 8 ... Is it worth it to upgrade?

Curious if anyone made the jump from a S8+ to a Note 8? Was there enough difference to make it worth the upgrade?
I have the AT&T version which I'll return once the unlocked version I ordered comes in. I'm glad I made the switch but for me it's the slight change in shape that makes it for me. I like the S pen but could live without, battery has been about as good, still new so it needs to settle in but otherwise I'm happy.
Right now (in my country) used S8+ goes for about 720$ and new S8+ is like 830$, and new Note8 goes for 1190$. I'm waiting for N8 price drop - suspecting that next month it will be about 1050$, and then I'll definitly switch
It depends on what kind of user you are. The big difference is the sPen, obviously. If that's something you see yourself using then yes, it's worth the upgrade. Otherwise, I'd say no. The screen bump isn't monumental, the extra RAM is only useful if you're an extreme multitasker, and performance is largely the same.
IMO yes. Im note user and lover
The phone shape to me is better.
Been missing my spen for a while. The fingerprint sensor is in a better loctaction. The camera takes better photo.
The extra ram makes it a bit faster/smoother.
So to me worth the upgrade.
Yes it was worth it for me. Adding to the reasons already mentioned.
S8+: Only allows 7 apps in memory.
Note8: 29 apps are kept in memory at once.
Now I am not sure if the # of apps is hard coded, or its based on how much ram the consume, but its a huge difference. I play a game (Star Wars: Galaxy of Heros) and on the S8 every time I was out of the game for an hour or more it would normally need to reload. On the Note8 I have come back to the game the next day and its still loaded. Its great!
You can see the proof here:
My cousin has the S8+ and my Note feels a hell of lot more high end than his. I think it's worth the switch just because of looks and feel. Then you get the S Pen that I use every day. It's so nice to go through your phone with the S Pen.
I own both, but the S8 Plus has better battery life, even tho the Note8 battery life is excellent!

Absolutely agree with this 110%.
I enjoy the dual camera setup, the additional width, and the less muted screen edges.
I don't miss my S8+.
Note 8 is all about s-pen and it's the only one, if you don't care about the pen, personally I don't see compelling reason to upgrade and since you're asking, probably there isn't one.

The Note 8 is NOT an upgrade, its not designed to be.
The 8 series of Samsung mobile phone consist's of three models, the S8, S8+ and the Note 8. All three models are similar and are there to fit an individual choice. One is a smallish mobile the other a phablet and the Note fills a small niche market and caters for those who use the S-pen and its software.
Most people don't want the S-pen that is why the S8+ is there but some don't want a phablet that is why the S8 exists.
I own the S8+ and regret deeply buying it as I wanted the Note but me being me I had to go and spend silly money four months ago to then go and spend even more silly money for the mobile I have wanted since owning my two Note 7's. I now own the mobile I am content with and man does that take some doing. I have owned around five phones this year alone. There won't be anymore until maybe the Note 9. Read that maybe as a certainty (help!!!)
It serves zero purpose to compare the three models they are as different as the Mercedes E class in salon, convertible and coupe, all have identical major parts but vary in some area of style, size and usage etc.

Well Worth investment.
It's worth the upgrade if you're looking to multitask heavier, As with Note 8 you can get the ability to use sPen plus there is dual camera included along with the legandary S8+ camera. Battery life is about the same but on some occasions, you may experience shorter battery life compared to S8+.
I have both S8+ and note 8. Huge difference to me in terms of fluidity and speed. Not only that, the extra 2gb of ram works wonders.
The S8+ I had constantly closing apps having to reload almost everything.
The note 8 I have not had any apps reload.
I also like the square shape more as well as less curved edges.
Very happy with the note 8 over S8

I suggest you not to mention the "Huge difference to me in terms of fluidity and speed", You'll experience stuttering and lag within six months of usage. You were too quick to make judgements, The Galaxy S8 Plus 128GB with 6GB RAM is already experiencing stuttering in the grouped notification.

I have to agree with this reason alone. The s8+ feels sluggish compared to how the note 8 performs. Not regretting the move.
Note 8 for me is worth it. 1st device I have owned that I dont care to root. Its amazing the way it is..7hrs screen time average.. even pulled 8hrs.

I understand what your saying since we are talking samsung device here. But i never understood why people say "itll lag within 6 months" , then why not just factory reset every 6 months? If in fact this note 8 slows to a crawl after 6 months, taking 20 minutes out of my day to do a factory reset is not an issue. Its not like its even painful anymore, now all the apps install and sync by themselves, keep app data and logins.
I've had the S8+ for 5 months and while its not slow, its janky UI lag has been present since day 1 of owning the device. Note 8 is way better in this regard.
It's all about the s-pen. Well worth it if you use the pen on a regular basis. The shape also feels better to me. I use mine alot for work, I keep spreadsheets and PDF files on here alot and take pictures and draw notes on top with s-pen , and that makes it irreplaceable to me. My recent stint with the s7edge made me really miss the note series and I ended up using the note 5 alot until the note 8 came out. I have had all the notes since the note 2.
Hope this helps

The Note 8 has a greater IQ than some of its owners. What you write is common sense and unfortunately passes over some owners heads. :crying: I often feel sorry for the Note 8 and not its owner.
Rather inflammatory post! Must have got out the wrong side of the bed this morning. Stuff it.

^^This.^^
My first Android phone was a Droid Incredible. There were definitely advantages to rooting which outweighed the random restarts and occasional bootloops. The more advanced the phones become, the less I see a need to root. I wasn't even inspired to root the LG V20.
I've seen zero lag in this phone especially after boosting the animations to .5. I'm not much of a themer, but Substratum seems to have that base covered. It seems that a creative mix of Tasker and AutoTools can do wonders to a phone without rooting. In short, the last custom ROM I ran was for the Note 7. There was no advantage to me. Your mileage may vary.
Back to the Note 8/S8 discussion... the Note 8 has the cameras the S8 doesn't have. It has more memory than the S8. The screen is bigger... nominally... than the S8+, and there's the S-pen. If that's important to ya... or if having the latest and greatest is, buy the Note 8.

Samsung finally...

Did ram management correct. Geez. I hit the recent apps button and it is like a damn Rolodex. I was still using my note4 (LGV20 last daily driver). Last Samsung phone I bought was s6 and it could only handle 4 apps. Sold it asap.
Really liking this phone. Putting a case on it actually makes it better to hold. Aside from ads and that damn bixby button this phone is pretty good. Because the phone is so tall I have redone my desktop because many things are now harder to reach. I wish Google and Samsung would black out apps already (OR AT LEAST GIVE THE OPTION!). I had 8h SOT my first charge with 25% battery left. I was getting 10h SOT on my note4 when I had almost everything blacked out but average was always 6h+. I think the Note9 could do 12h easy (with good reception) if more UI and app elements were black themed.
