I have the LG circle case with Qi charging. Love it.
Was thinking of getting a magnetic car mount (requires putting a small metal plate behind the back cover.
I did a little test, and place the small metal plate between my phone and my Qi charger, and sure enough the metal plate got pretty hot.
My question is, will this interfere with the charging? Would it be bad for the phone to do this?
Mine wouldn't charge (as suspected) with the plate in the center of the phone. I had to put my plate in the bottom corner, opposite the speaker hole, to make qi charging and magnetic holder play nice with each other.

I was not able to get both the QI receiver and the metal plate to fit inside the case. I have the plastic cover, not the leather one.
Can you do me a favor and post a photo of your back cover so I can see how you mounted both the QI receiver and the metal plate?

Please do post a pic. I tried to fit both but to no avail. My metal plate is as large as QI receiver and I found it impossible to fit both. I would need to cut the plate in half or more.
I tried using an Aukey magnetic car mount and even with the smaller plate it interfered with my wireless charging and the phone didn't really stick well through my Spigen case. I personally wouldn't recommend them but ymmv.
Let us know how it works out for you...

Car mount: Take an empty CD spindle, run the phone's bottom edge through two adjacent grooves in the circular base, and secure the phone's top edge by attaching a large paper clamp to the spindle (using the spindle's included foam donut as padding). Then duct tape the spindle base to your dashboard. Without the duct tape and clamp, this also makes an excellent desk stand. Portrait or landscape orientation, phones or tablets, for the desk stand; landscape only, phones only, for the car mount.
Kickstand: Tape the top edges of two plastic cards together, and connect the bottom edges with a strip of tape several centimeters long. Attach a roll of tape in front as a stop. Folds together for pocket or wallet. Portrait or landscape orientation for phones and tablets.

Accidentally sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note 2
Creative, ugly, but creative. I like the idea of the credit card one. It would be nice to carry in my wallet until I need it.
Nice! Recycle and Save The Earth Too!!
The grooves in the CD/DVD spindles holds the Note II perfectly in landscape orientation!

Re the red wire stand, just use heavy-duty pliers to bend it to shape. Sand it using abrasive papers. Then apply paint.
As to the otg usb cable, I hate the dangling cable so I used rubber glue or epoxy to stick the head to the tail.
Hope that helps.
So I bought a Mountek car dock that uses a magnet to hold the phone. It comes with a metal plate you put inside your phone case. The problem is that the M8 has a curved back and the case won't fit with the plate inside. I tried bending the plate, but it would have to be PERFECT to fit inside the case without pushing up against it.
Does anyone know of an M8 specific case that has magnetic metal embedded in it? Or has anyone else come up with a clever way to make the M8 work with the Mountek?

Certainly not a clever or pretty way, but I did epoxy a strip of metal from Home Depot onto the back of a case for this purpose. It works, but... near impossible to get it to look nice.
I just received the same car mount and was able to place the magnetic blade (without removing the adhesive tape) inside my TPU case. It's a little tricky to keep it centered while inserting the phone back in to the case, but I could keep a finger on the blade to keep it steady. Once the phone was fully back in the case, the blade hadn't move at all and it sticks to the mount perfectly without any movement or drops.
I also have a second blade on another case (applied on the back of the case), so that's another option. Buy a cheap case just for the car, but that could become tedious.
Edit: I have the blade vertically in place when the phone is in portrait view. Easier to hold the blade in place in landscape when putting the case back on.

Can anyone explain to me why the Samsung Qi Back and Qi Charger would not work with a case (Say a SPigen Tough Armor) or other thin case? I understand it is a magnetic force and inductive charger, but we are not talking otter box thickness. I'm wondering why it wouldn't work if I put the back on and slid it into the case.
Thank you.
The Qi back is larger and doesn't fit in any current case well. That is the only issue.
As the topic states, has anyone found a metal plate brand that has an adhesive that will actually stick to the rear of the 5T? I've tried a number of them, and they all pop right off when I go to pull the phone off the dash, leaving the plate attached to the magnets.
Specifically, I've tried the plate that came with:
"Maxboost" Magnetic Car Mount, which has no branding on the backer for the tape, so I'm not sure what it is
"DAFQCO" Magnetic Cell Phone Holder for Car, which used a 3M tape that i can't recall the number of off the top of my head
A Maxboost plate with it's tape replaced by 3M VHB Tape F9460PC tape.
I bought the Carbon fiber bumper case and attached the metal plate to the back of it with 3M double sided tape and leave it in my car.
Whenever I get in my car I just switch my case for the Carbon fiber bumper and have never had any troubles.

Where did you buy that carbon fiber bumper case? Can you provide a link?

It's the official one from OnePlus.

In this case, problem is about magnet is too strong, you can try using small metal plate or better adhesive.
Or put metal plate in between case and phone, magnet is strong enough to hold it (make sure to put protective film on plate or phone)

This is what I did. I used simple vinyl tape (electric tape) so the metal wouldn't scratch the phone
I bought the sandstone cover from the oneplus store.
In the future you might consider the proclip mount. I've had mine for 5 years and it's adjustable case has worked for every phone I've had since. I'm also anal about not having my AC air blowing on my phone in a vent mount. Probably a personal problem.

I ordered the spigen metal plate from Amazon. So far it hasn't come off. And I use it with the original thin case, the red case, and naked.
I use Tech Sense Lab Magback car mount. Wonderful product. I have the still plates attached to my phones case from inside. Works perfectly.

Thanks, I actually have the car half of a pro clip mount for my car, I love the quality and the ingenuity of the mount, I just don't love where it ends up placing it in a 7th gen VW GTI (right in the passengers knee if they're tall).
I ended up using the heavy duty exterior grade Scotch double sided foam tape (that's effectively 3M automotive trim tape) for a week before I ended up just building a car mount. And all this started because I'm one of the crazy people who doesn't use a case at all.

Cell helmet sounds like exactly what you're looking for. I've been using one for two years now on multiple phones and haven't had any issues: https://www.cellhelmet.com/pages/mounts
I'm searching for a magnetic phone holder which you can mount into the air vent of a car. Tried a few but the magnets are not strong enough to hold the phone.
Any advise, preferably based on experience.
Grab a thin metal plate adhesive from the one side, and stick it on the back of the phone or just place it inside a hard TPU case (between the case and the back of the phone), and it will be held like magic.
The plate must be large enough to hold it properly.
Some magnetic holders in the market include such metal plates.
I recommend Magnetic holder brand Baseus
It sticks very well even on rough road. Been using it for a month and never once it fall off.
Bought it for around $5
Premium build quality and also it comes with nice metal plate wrapped with leather.
Worth every cents.
