Can we get NFC with accessory add-ons? - Moto G 2015 Accessories

Hypothetically speaking, is there any glaring obstacle to adding an NFC chip to an external case for those new mid-range devices coming without one, like our Moto G? I see external battery cases that plug into the usb port....I also see qi modules being mounted the same way. So besides the missing menu in settings and maybe a few libs, etc, which is a simple case of using a few modified apks or a custom rom, would this be a genuine possibility?

Idk. It seems unlikely.

I was hoping for the same thing !

I guess is possible. IQ chargers are easier tho

My previous (now broken) phone was a Samsung Galaxy s3neo. The only reason it was not possible for developers to get official CM was the unavailability of NFC sources specific to the device, which on stock rom has a perfectly functional NFC. The chip is integrated into the battery.
Unfortunately the devs were unable to get the existing chip to work properly.
It sounds unlikely to me.

tyfone has a patented nfc capable micro sd card, but I can't find anywhere to buy one..

If you strap an NFC-enabled phone to the back of the Moto G, that should sort it

No NFC (NXP PN544) chip on N7000

Hi all,
I've recently had a look at the review written by Supercurio and there he had stated that the N7000 is packed with the NXP PN544 NFC chip but the pictures taken by ChipWorks (Google for 'Galaxy Note teardown') do not show the chip at all, while it seems to be visible on the LTE official Samsung teardown. There are 64 (8x8) tin connectors where the chip should have been placed and those connectors perfectly fit the PN544.
Please have a look at the pictures that I have collected: h-ttps://picasaweb.google.com/100720874646428902597/GalaxyNoteNFC
The same pictures can be found on ChipWorks, and have a better resolution.
Now my question: which one is exactly the Note that Supercurio has reviewed?
Thanks a lot.
Bye.

The GT-N7000 does not have NFC chip. It isn't compatible with the processor. The ATT note (I think) does. It uses the Snapdragon processor.

Thanks for your answer.
As I've wrote, in the review by Supercurio, that has been published by Engadget, there was a mention about that chip, but together with the N7000 CPU (Exynos 4210).
Anyway why the NFC chip should be connected directly to the CPU?
According to the NFC architecture brief description, the NFC RF is connected to a host controller, which can be the baseband or application processor on a phone or the core CPU on a PC.
On the Note LTE the NFC is connected via Infineon PMB9811. The same baseband processor can be found on N7000 version.
Supercurio had a version where presumably the NFC chip was sold where on the N7000 there are some tins only... But having the Exynos CPU on board!
On Galaxy S2 'NFC' enabled there are the same baseband processor and the same CPU as in the Note. The real difference is the NFC chip, that seems to be available on the LTE version, in Korea and US...

hehe cool find.
So if we get the missing components and solder them there I guess the normal note would have nfc working, maybe it would need a different kernel or something? ^^ lol it's a pain in the ass to solder bga chips tho...
Then maybe it was just a price thing? I'm not sure. I thought I read it was a processor issue. I know the N7000 has the better processor than the LTE US version (Exynos vs. Snapdragon).

Yeah, that would be a pain. And that would not be worth it at all. Ha. NFC is still fairly new. Before long all phones will have it. I bet the new iPhone will have it too.

Ye, i wonder why they didn't simply put NFC in all notes, period.
Probably the price... or maybe some delay in getting the NFC chips or whatever... sucks tho... would like to hear from Samsung!

just got t mobile flex

Coming from att note ii after i lost my phone. Went to t mobile kiosk and signed up for 60$plan plus picked up nice curvy lg g flex. I am planning to root soon anything i need to know as a new user?? So far this phone is looking great however wonder how it compared to my old lost note ii in terms of performance,
The flex destroys the note 2 in terms of performance and battery life. The only downside is the lack of development. There are a few guys working on stuff. My previous phone was also note 2. There was more development for that phone than any other i have seen. I do miss that part.
As fo rooting I went with Towelroot, works like a charm.
I also am a former net . 2 owner. The best custom at start in my opinion was Jedi, then it was DN3. Anyway I have a rogers g flex, same model as the AT&T version and I have tried everything to root this thing. Towelroot and ioroot didn't work on 4.4.2. They only work for limited models on 4.4.2, but all 4.2.2, so the only way for me to root is downgrade. Is there a method I don't know about? Any help would be great, like you said limited support

I have been waiting for a while for this. Hoping to wait for a 100% or 125%

Yea longer percent battery. Might not happen since the iPhone 6 plus (Another non removable battery phablet) has been out for a while and its only size I have seen is 60% extra battery.

Anyone else see a naughty word/typo in the first sentence on the review link (1st one)?

What's with all this 60% stuff? The Note 5 has a 3000mah battery, and this has a 2500mah battery, so it's 83% more battery.

This is just what I've been waiting for, except that flap over the spen ruins it for me... I use my spen all the time, and that would get frustratingly annoying quickly. Guess I'll have to wait for a different one... *sigh*.
This is probably more for the accessories thread!

I personally am hoping that Incipio makes this case for the note 5

Nexus 6 vs Moto G5 Plus (Thoughts), Or waiting on Pixel 2

So my Nexus 6 is starting to loose it. Reboots every day randomly, battery life sucks. I feel like it is slowly down. What are your guys thoughts of switch to the G5 Plus or should I stick it out to the Pixel 2?
Clean it up replace battery.
Motos probably have no headphone jacks or lack 2 usbc ports.
As such, everyone with a brain will reject that.
Im personally waiting for something new that isnt an iphone lClone
If i wanted an iphone, i would get one.

I stand corrected. It has a headphone jack.
But then again, its a "midranger".
But stats wise its the best midranger i have seen. Still not a good contender vs the nexus 6.

[Q] Your advice about getting the Note 5 now (used) - from Nexus 5x

Hi.
I love the 5x and it's camera (just wow!), but I hate that it's lacking in speed, and I can use the extra screen space.
Would you say getting the Note 5 now would be a smart move? Can't afford higher-priced ones, and was offered a good price on a used one.
Just thought I will check with you guys first.
Thanks!
Also used to own a 5X but the note 5 is good if you get one for a good price. The ram is double what you are used to, which is a huge +, and the QHD screen is awesome. The Spen is also a bonus. Only thing I miss about the 5X is the huge customization and rom options it had. But the Note 5 is an awesome phone even for it's age.
