After a long looong thinking I made a decision: I buy a Nexus 6, today. Yes, a one year old device, instead a new Nexus 2015
In a first moment, when Google shows the new devices I was quite sure to buy a Nexus 6P; even though I ever look to Huawei with intrest and diffidence meantime. Test and video started, and showes a fragile/breakable device: scratch and bending tests are disarming. Moreover the test on build quality and the "how to fix" video showed a freak quality
I abandoned Nexus 6P idea....
Ok, probably the Nexus 5X will be my device: LG, build quality (easy fix) test good/passed, I like the good selfie camera, and the rear camera in the middle with laser AF. Yes I saw the video of N5 vs N5X... user experience looks quite the same... 2 years later, incredible... yes, only 2 gb RAM.... and basic version is 16gb ROM... really wierd for a 2015 Google phone!
And why not a Motorola Nexus 6?
Yes, why not? Is 1 year old, no fingerprint sensor, is big, no.... huge.... old, no Marshmallow native, no 2015 device... no... no...
Ok, keep calm.
With a Nexus 6 I will lost:
better selfie camera (compared to 6P and also to 5X)
Laser autofocus for rear camera
handy/practical device (definitely vs 5X)
USB type C, useful (It's about time!)
fingerprint sensor... I belive in it, useful, comfortable
With Nexus 6 I get:
good display, better than 5X, quite similar to 6P
good rear camera, with optical image stabilization... but without lare AF. IMO no far from both 2015 Nexus in term of user experience.
great CPU, best Snapdragon quadcore: probably very near to 5X and 6P in term of user experience
3gb of RAM, maybe not needed in daily use, but better than 5X
32gb ROM in basic edition, as basic edition of 6P, as top edition of 5X
great stereo speaker, very difficult to beat
wireless charging (f*ck the USB type C), incredible lack in both Nexus 2015... Google don't belive in wireless charge, for the future?
Nothing about aesthetic.. Is up to each one of us: but I don't like the 6P... probably black is the only way (for me) to tolerate the camera black band.
Very nice the N5X, and also the big Nexus 6 IMO.
Now.... In my country I buy Motorola Nexus 6 32gb with 100€ less than N5X 16gb version. And about at 50% of 6P price.
Done deal! :highfive:
Any comment is welcome
i think u make a right decision and i will not buy the Nexus 6P or 5X too, although i'm Chinese......
I got the nexus 6 as well! Why? It's the ultimate device

quite true... just fingerprint sensor I really would on it.
I was waiting for 5X and 6P to be released, but I was so disappointed with pricing in Europe, so I just decided to order myself a N6. Got a great deal on ebay for a new device with 1 year warranty and it's arriving tomorrow. I am still just not sure if I'm gonna like the size of this thing . I have 14 days to decide weather to return it, but somehow I think it's going to stay and my old N5 is probably going away...

Yes true. EU prices are fu*ing indecent, especially for 6P.
Size scare me away from N6, but also bewitch me.
Cross fingers for both of us :highfive:
I used to laugh at a guy in my office with a Galaxy Note, but as soon as I got my N6 it all became clear that this is a really good size for a phone. I was worried that it wouldn't fit in my pocket - it does, no problem. The screen is terrific, front stereo speakers, brilliant device. I haven't regretted it for a moment.
Even if the 6P didn't have the Snapdragon 810 I still wouldn't have upgraded. The N6 is plenty good enough for me until it eventually dies one day.

Handling the phone at day 1 may be a bit of an issue.. But once u get used to the massive screen.. U won't go back to a smaller display..

Really happened to me when I bought my Note1 in substitution to my old iPhone 3g!
I almost pre-ordered a Nexus 6P on its launch day. After further review I ended up going with a Nexus 6 as well. I have had no regrets! It is by far my favorite of any phone I have owned. I can not believe I only paid $350, $150 less than the 6P would have cost.
Is the 6P "better" than the 6? In my opinion yes it is, depending on how you look at it. But I do not feel that the 6P is $150 better than the Nexus 6.
You will love your Nexus 6! It is an awesome device. The SD 805 / Adreno 420 coupled with 3GB of ram is a solid performer and I feel it is future proofed for at least 2 years. The 2560x1440 display is amazing in my opinion, however it is my first device with an AMOLED display. The front facing stereo speakers are the best I have seen/heard on a smartphone. I also feel the camera takes a damn good picture. I have heard from others that it is not that great, but I can't see a difference from pictures taken on my Nexus 6 and my iPhone 6.
was also on the same boat. but i said to myself, why wont i try a 6 inch phone and see it for myself. and boom. i fell in love with it. 6p and 5x for sure are good phones. but the nexus 6 is a flagship as well. so basically, your not settling for something bad. u did settle for good. for the price way too cheap now. its pretty damn good deal
Same here. I wish it has the camera from the new Galaxy phones and the finger print reader but other than that it's a great phone for $300.
Also, I don't like the idea of having the finger print on the back. How can you unlock the phone while it's on the cradle, car mount or whatever? LG's back buttons make sense to be on the back but not the finger print reader like the 6P.

I suppose fingerprint on the back is cool and useful. But only suppose.... Beacuse I never used it.
Anyway... I'm with my Nexus6 now... Yuppyyyy!

Wise buyer desicion.
I did the same too!, mine is just 2 weeks now , got it for $300 (32GB blue).I had 1+1 as daily drive but wanted a bigger screen - 6P is bigger but not enough and 6P is ~+$200 more than 6.
Then concerns of 810 and prospects of a nexus 6 2016 with 820 or more > May be worth waiting.
With Nexus 6 - So far so good , I adjusted the color tone and with Chroma - It is still in par with 2015 flag ships in normal use.
I wish Moto make another nexus 6" , even Sony or HTC is fine.
This one is also an interesting piece @$300 , If developers support it.
Yeah!
In Italy I paid 379 euro for 32gb blue.
6p cost is 699 fu.king euro... And you can bend it like a banana easy peasy.
Also the N6 screen is fantastic, really amazing. I like a lot in my first approach.
Looks a very good device... And Marshmallow looks kindly married with it!

This thing is huge! Just arrived yesterday and I was playing with it whole evening (after 5.1.1 and 6.0 updates together with 3 security patches) and almost whole day today. Battery is so much better in comparison to my N5.
I guess having my Moto 360 will help a lot to cope with the size .

I jumped on the same boat. N5x isn`t a big upgrade for my N5, N6p is a way too expensive and its build quality is not great. So I decided and I have placed order for N6 for a half price of N6p ( I live in EU). I also got a free chromecast 1st gen xD. The only thing I will miss its a figerprint sensor but I can live without out.
I too just got my nexus 6 on swappa for $279. It was only used for about 2 months and the previous owner had purchased the 6P. At first the size of the nexus 6 took a little getting used to but then it becomes a non-issue. Front facing speakers on this device are amazing and I think the camera is great in my opinion.

i choose to get the nexus 6 because you got one lol.
I just grabbed a 32GB Midnight Blue Nexus 6 from Amazon for $250, and it should be here in a couple of days. It was kind of an impulse buy, so the next day did some research and saw a bunch of problems people had with it. Things like expanding battery popping off the back, bad battery life, the screen burning in (AMOLED), screens cracking/breaking randomly, and other such things. Thing is, the phone came out a year ago, and I wanted to know if Motorola/Google has made new models to fix these or any other problems, and if so, my chances of getting a good or bad one. If it matters , Amazon was selling it directly, not through a third party. Before I ordered the Nexus 6 I had a Moto G (2015) 2gb/16gb on the way, so I have to decide between these two.
Side Note: If anybody knows of a good case, please let me know.
The phone has zero problems. Don't read into the few people with issues when the phone was first released. Let's put it this way, the nexus 6 is so good I returned a nexus 6p even with the marginally better camera. Root, rom, kernel this beast and let it fly. It's an amazing phone. Last true moto quality phone before lenovo acquired them.
I paid more than twice that amount a year ago for mine and I still haven't found a replacement that doesn't feel like a step sideways. I've been very happy with zero issues.
I've tried a few cases and always come back to my Ringke Fusion.
Nexus is a nice one especially when it's on sale now. The only one thing i want to complain is the low screen brightness
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA Forums
It's still an excellent buy. With Marshmallow, battery life improved for me which was the only negative point of Nexus. I see this beast holding up well going into 2016 and possibly even longer
With the price sales, it's a great buy!
I paid $489 last May and don't regret it one bit. It will be a fast, awesome phone for a long time.
Is the Nexus 6 a good buy?...................... Absolutely!
the question is.... are you willing to go stock??
hahaha.. i doubt.. ull be flashaholic when u get this
definetely a good buy..
I own one and plan to buy one more for spare.
It's interesting. I guess the 64GB models are more popular, as I won't be receiving mine from Amazon until after the new year.
I've had this phone almost 2 years now. It's a beast, I love the big screen, it's fast and it's pure android. The other day I was thinking if it was time to replace and upgrade to a new phone and did a bit of research. I have a budget so nothing too fancy or any latest releases. So had a look at Mate 8, Mate S, Huawei P9, OnePlus 3, Lg V10, even 6p.
To be honest nothing wowed me. Similar specs, maybe few plus sides but nothing made me go 'ok that's it'. Maybe the fingerprint scanner but I'm not fussed really.
So anyone in the same boat let me know if you've find any good alternatives or are you waiting for Pixel phones. I'm interested if anyone else is looking for an upgrade.
My other option is to wait another year once the Pixel phones go cheaper and upgrade to Pixel XL.
So let me know what you guys think..
Cheers
the best phone i can find in the market right now is Samsung S7 edge

Awaiting pixel xl and Honor 9 to see if I give up my N6. If they don't wow me, I'll just keep the N6 until something does.

that's why i recommend Samsung

I don't really have high hopes for Pixel XL really. I reckon if I want to upgrade 6p is going to be my choice as the price will drop once Pixel is launched.
I'm in the same boat as you, I really wanted to upgrade to the Note 7 despite my hate for TouchWiz, but there are launchers to fix that. Until that whole battery explosion fiasco happened around the same time my contract ended so I decided to hold off for the Pixel phones. I guess I will know for sure next week, if the Pixel lineup isn't any good then I might get the Note 7 or S7 Edge.
If not I could wait for Samsung's new galaxy lineup, which will be announced early next year

That explosion thing totally put me off too. I don't think I can afford a Samsung at the moment anyway looks like my best bet is either wait for next year and buy cheaper Pixel XL or buy 6p now and use it next 2-3 years.
The 6p is pretty nice. I have a N6. Got a 6p used. I like good audio for podcasts mostly. I watch hours of video at work. Both running Pure Nexus. Very snappy. Its a tossup . I like them both equally. Got a 5x for the kid. She loves it.
there's nothing coming up that I feel is an upgrade across the board, I got the shamu on launch day and was also expecting to pick up a pixel but its been a let down so far with design/specs/price
I'm thinking maybe catching a 6p on fire sale price around thanksgiving or new year, or going with the cheaper midrange chinese oems(oneplus 3/saxon 7) depending on development support
all meh choices so there's a good chance I'll stay put with this device into next year

Op3, it is dev friendly. If is true that the new pixels will kill the nexus line, I think that I must give a prize to a company that is close to developers, no locked bootloader or similar bull..it

Why replace it? If you want new device, keep your beloved N6 and buy new one someday I personally can't live with only one phone, there are too many awesome devices out there (in my opinion). But if money is the problem and you need to sell N6 in order to be able to buy a new one, then it's a whole different story and understandable
I can't anything that wowed me like my n6. I would like a op3 but with the lack of band 13 for verizon, and my area is covered with it. I'm stuck with verizon for the most part, only have coverage with most of the rural area I live in. Sprint roams off verizon, the nearest tower for tmo is 15 miles away and I live in the mountians. ATT has the 2nd best coverage, but doesn't have service in my house, and it a lot of areas I go to. I used to be a samsung fan until they started with the knox crap, after my s3, I have never had an samsung device again. I was a fan of Motorola, until Lenovo took over. Looks like I'll be sporting my n6 for a while. At my work, I've actually been pushing the n6 for people to buy them lol

Well, my phone buying pattern has been like this;
Palm Treo 650, 2004
HTC Dream ADP1, 2008
HTC Vision, 2010
Samsuck Relay, 2012 (first and LAST samsuck I will ever buy)
Nexus 6, 2014.
Note the pattern: update when there is something WORTH updating to. For a little while, that was a 2-year cycle. THIS cycle will go longer, since this N6 is still perfect. Should have seen the condition of the palm treo when I was done with it -- the lots-of-pins plug was removed, had a capacitor sticking out the bottom of it, and a custom charging plug, a couple of resistors soldered onto the inside near the battery. That 2004-2008 range was REALLY desolate, sure wasn't going to buy RIM or FRUIT junk.
I will be buying my wife a Pixel XL to replace her N5, and sticking to the N6 for myself. Why? Well the pixel XL will have a better SoC, but not *so* much better that it will have ANY impact on my life.
As far as the 6p goes, straight across the board, it is either equal or LESS than the N6.
Screen: less
RAM: equal
CPU: less (the SD810 is definitely NOT as good as the 805, it was just adequate for them to be able to bump the number to say "64bitz!!!", which won't actually do any good in a phone).
Not that the 6p is a terrible phone or anything, but I already have something slightly BETTER than it, so it would be stupid to get one.
Actually, my N6 recently suffered a... mishap. Got some impact thanks to a 2 year old, that even with a ballistic maxx, caused a couple of cracks in the digitizer, and SHATTERED the AMOLED. Yeah, it was worth buying a new screen for it. TOTALLY worth it.

The rumor appears to be picking up steam and it really does seem plausible... What do you guys think? I wont feel cheated if it comes to fruition. I bought my OP3 the very day it came out back in June, and I've enjoyed every second of it since.
They'll definitely have to announce it, and they have to do so under a different name because the changes do appear to be significant, so hopefully no one will get screwed over buying the original OP3 one week and the next week the OP3+ comes out.
What do you guys think? A 2K LED screen and Snapdragon 821 would be pretty dope. Of course, it probably would need a 4000mah battery and 6 inch screen to accommodate the battery.
It would be a d!ck move by OnePlus for them to do this just a few months after the OnePlus 3 was launched.

Thanks for sharing this news. I was shocked at first when I saw the headline, A premium OnePlus 3+ with SD821 is rumored!!! Hell no!
But rumored phone specs are not in my choice. 6" display is too large. LED > LCD So still the OnePlus 3 is still the best choice for me. handy and powerfull.

https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/recent-rumor-of-amoled-to-an-lcd-panel.469519/
I just ordered a OP3 yesterday and then read this news today. It doesn't bother me though. The reason I bought the OP3 is because of the variety of ROMS, MultiROM support, and NetHunter support. All those things will have to start over for this "refresh" version. It will require a new XDA forum. It's a new phone model. They would be doing a huge disservice to try to sell it as OP3.
Also, like someone above said, the 6" screen will be too big. I've had a Nexus 6 for a year and a half and I'm ready for something that comfortably fits in my pocket.
I don't think this will happen. I hope it doesn't.
They just released the OnePlus 3 in o2 stores in the UK about a month ago, so immediately making it outdated with a newer model when they have so much exposure in a retail shop in front of the general population, seems like a very bad idea. It's already better than the competition so no need to change it just yet. Let the holiday period revel in the OnePlus 3 glory!

Exactly the same reason I just ordered a One+3. I really enjoy the Nexus 6, but I want a phone sligtly smaller with a "near stock" android experience.
Looking forward to this phone, hope it ships within a few weeks.

If someone came up to me tomorrow and asked if I would swap my SD820/OLED for a SD821/LCD, I would say no.
In 2 or 3 years time, the speed difference between the SD820 & 821 may become important. Until that point, I'd rather being looking at my OLED every day over an LCD. As far as I'm concerned, LCD = The past.
A OnePlus 3 with an LCD screen!?! I'm sorry, Snapdragon 821 or not, it's simply NOT a OnePlus 3 without an AMOLED screen!
Just call it the OnePlus 3.1
Carl pei said yesterday that oneplus will be sticking to optic amolled displays. So I don't see any other displays coming in future

I was thinking about getting the OnePlus 3 this weekend after the disappointment with the Google Pixel pricing, but with all this talk about what the new 'A3010' could be, it would be difficult to place down this amount of money knowing there's potentially an updated model of the OP3 coming out within the next few months. I have been searching for a new phone to replace my LG G4, and the OP3 seems like the perfect phone as it matches quite a specific criteria i had planned out. (SD820, 3GB RAM, AMOLED 1920x1080, 64GB Internal Storage, Fingerprint Reader)
The OP3 is now being sold in O2 stores here in the UK, which offers me much quicker alternative to ordering from the official OnePlus website and being presented with a month-long wait for delivery. But these stores are asking for £346 including a £10 top-up which i will never use, in comparison with the £329 on the website which is already a little beyond my available budget. Personally, i think £346 for a phone which is approaching 5 months old when it was only £309 on release in the UK (Increase of £20 due to Brexit) is difficult to get too enthusiastic about buying. Of course it is a miracle how OnePlus can sell such an astonishing phone at such a low price range, and the reason for the price increase was beyond their control due to how the Pound has fallen following the EU Referendum. However, it is a shame as the phone was already beyond my allocated budget and has increased in price by £20 for online purchases over the past 6 months!
I am hoping at least that if an updated model comes out with the Snapdragon 821 at a similar affordable price bracket (£300-350), then it would make more sense for me to purchase that as i would not be buying a device which is already five months down the line and gradually falling behind competitors such as the Google Pixel. Despite my restricted budget, i would much rather spend a small premium getting an up-to-date phone with the latest processor equipped, than buying the OnePlus 3 for £20 more than it was originally listed for and getting marginally outdated specifications.
My beloved rooted Nexus 5 is now well past its best before date and on searching a replacement device am suffering sticker price shock for ' flagship' phones
Am considering the Essential PH1 considering its specs vs price point.
Take few photos, with performance as a 'Phone' - particularly battery life - a higher priority than camera
Given the litany of 'issues' reported and the stability of its manufacturer am I losing my mind seriously considering Essential ?
Should I just suck it up and spend the bucks (One+ 6 would be my current choice)
Any insight &/or suggestions from former N5 users would welcome
TIA
Maybe the Poco Phone?
Ich switched eine years ago from the n5 to op3 never regret it but my next phone won't be a one plus.

Poco not on my shortlist - apparently no B4 band (needed in Canada for LTE) . Thanks for suggestion tho.
Would you share why you've ruled out the One Plus ?
Of course. It's because they are getting damn expensive and more like the "hip and fancy" brands. I mean they have some benefits like the really good software and update support. But they started with under 300 € I think and now the OnePlus 6t will cost nearly 600€. Also the design ...the glass and the notch, it's horrible in my opinion.
If you are willing to pay that much the one plus is a good choice but if you can wait a half year you can buy the half year old Samsung phones. They get much cheaper in some time. The OnePlus won't. And if you root anyway you can flash AOSP on the Samsung. The worst thing is the bloatware on this devices.

I'm going through the same dilemma. All the phones I looked at (Oneplus 6, Moto C, etc) had their own problems! So for the moment I'm staying with my rooted N5 running lineageos 14.1 (Nougat). Seems the best and most secure option for now.....

i still have my nexus 5 and its working, but the battery life its so bad, i moved to the pocophone f1 at less than 400 dollars with almost all flagship specs its the nexus phone that we wanted cheap, full flagship features, and price performance that no phone offers currently.
Another alternative if you dont like the pocophone f1, its the Nokia 8 (2017), the only disadvantage of that you cant unlock the bootloader its pretty cheap at less than 400 dollars, the nexus pricing, premium performance and features.

As mentioned above Poco won't work for me :crying: as am in Canada and Poco does not support Band B to enable LTE.
Nokia's showing as Not Available on Amazon.ca Unlockable boot loader might be an issue Thanks for the suggestion Can you reference source of < $400 pricing ?
Not sure how long my Nexus will survive with current hardware issue ( sound only when it feels like it and doesn't feel like it more often than not).
Not hearing anyone saying they grabbed Essential ... maybe answering my question

I would recommend the zuk z2. Perfect replacement for my N5
I switched to a Moto X4 just a few weeks back from my trusty old Nexus 5. It's not a big upgrade, in a lot of ways, but you also don't lose anything you might with comparable phones (like a headphone jack).
As said, it's by no means a flagship device, but so far I'm happy with it, especially considering the 180€ price tag.

Have you considered self repairing? They N5 is easy to take apart and replacement parts are cheap on Ebay.
Google your sound problem. Sounds like a possible loose connection somewhere. May just need to disconnect and reconnect that part. That plus a new battery for $6 may give you a 'new' nexus 5.

I'm in my last days with my beloved N5! It is the best Smartphone, I've ever owned - it has been nearly 5 years. I replaced the battery a year ago with an (allegedly) original battery. Since a few months the battery life is worsening day by day. I'm running Lineage 14.1, which runs smooth and stable. Since a few days, the device turns itself off every now and then. I guess it's a hardware problem; I've openened it and tried to reattach every connection, without success.
I will be going for a Pixel 3 because...
- It seems to be THE ONLY flagship usable with one hand
- The most annoying thing with the N5 was the Camera in any lower light condition. Hence I opt for a top-notch-camera
- A big part of the good experience I had with the N5 was due to the great developer community. Software-wise I'm still (almost) up to date! I'm hoping that the Pixel 3 will last for at least 5 years... All the other phones with a strong community are just too large for me (Xiaomi, OnePlus, Moto G6...)
- It is reasonably easy to take apart; I will be able to replace the battery myself and in a few years the replacement displays wont cost a fortune anymore.
I know that the Pixel 3 is overprized, but considering, that the smartphone is the object I use the most in my life, I came to the conclusion, that i want to spend that money. And if I compare myself to some friends, who might not spend 900$ on a phone, but then buy a new 300-400$ Phone every 2 years, I will probably still pay less after all...
But again: I would go for a Xiaomi/Poco/OnePlus IF THEY WOULD STOP MAKING TABLETS AND START MAKING PHONES AGAIN!

I bought it and it is the perfect replacement! Same size, beast of a performance and also the best custom ROM development! It has about 8 Pie ROMs and has camera2api! I really love this device!

Have you considered sony xz2 compact? It is still a compact phone, not so recent I know, but with reasonable price...
Otherwise there is Xiaomi mi A2 lite, with Android One, and at 200$ I think it could be a good investment. Also it has great support.
I hope I'm in time for the suggestions!

Thanks, but you're too late
I'll get the Pixel 3 tomorrow. The XZ2 is nice, although a bit chunky. Sad they didn't bring out a xz3 compact together with the xz3...
The Mi A2 Lite is ok, but no flagship phone... The problem with the affordable brands is, that they essentially all design phones for the Asian market, where for many people the phone is at the same time their Computer and TV and hence bigger is better...
i got myself a Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite about a week ago because my nexus 5 really started to show its age after 4+ years, do any of you guys have this device/plan to get it?
if so let me know because i'm trying to get a community together for this device, it already has a TWRP port, and i started my bootloader unlock process (it told me i had to wait 15 days and it feels like forever lol)
i also posted a request in the new device request thread
hopefully we'll get our own place soon hehe
