Fingerprint reader as back button REMOVED/GONE/FINITO/KAPUTT! - Huawei P9 Plus Questions & Answers

On my Honor 7 I was able to use the fingerprintreader as a back button if i pressed it once. It was a great feature, and was one of the reasons I got a new P9 Plus.
To my great disappointment this feature is not available anymore.
Anyone else feel this is a huge step down? I feel this is one of the features that convinced me to go for a P9 Plus instead of a S7 or Note7. If I've knew this before I probably wouldn't have bought the phone, that's how important I feel this feature is.
I guess there are no solutions to fix this, and that we only have to sit and wait and see if an update will enable this feature again?
Is there any way to reach out to Huawei about this? I only found an EMUI fan mail-address.

Hi, i am also very disappointet!
The Fingerprint-Backbutton was nearly the greatest feature in my Honor 7.
Today i made the Update and the functionality has been removed - that step wasn't in the releasenotes. Otherwise i wouldn't have updated my phone.
Now i also hope the deletion was an error that will be fixed in the next version.

Does anyone feel left out on the android nougat update? Also info on battery saving!

Idk about you guys but I think that huawei won't care enough to update our device to 7.0 Given how things are going I'm speculating exactly that. And I wanted to know what are your thoughts on this. Also not sponsored XD but if anyone is searching for a case, get a "head" case from ebay (they feel super nice and the buttons respond so well). I may add a photo and I know the case is off topic but I'm trying to cover a few things and help out if someone is still struggling with that. Also if you feel that you device is a power hog then just unprotect a few apps from settings (that seems to work best). But you should probably go to smart and if possible stop wakelocks with Xposed if you have it installed (if you don't knw what that is then kindly look around the threads if you want to install it or not).

Surprisingly little crap -but Emui = ughh!

Got my p10+ yesterday and spent some time setting it up, I was pleasantly surprised at how little bloatware there is on the phone (UK on contract)
The default setting of all apps on the home screen is poor though, it's like they're trying to emulate the iPhone. I don't know about anyone else but I like Android partly 'because' it doesn't look like an iPhone. Just as well it's an easy feature to turn off.
The multifunction action button takes a bit of getting used to as well, atmo I keep looking for the hardware buttons either side of it but it's getting easier.

Jesus, your saying the home screen looks like i phone? Just check out the settings page. The phone came full of crappy bloat. I'm in the UK to. Why can't it just be like the nexus or pixel range. My Pixel XL also feels well more responsive compared to the p10 plus. I feel there is a delay/lag when using the UI.
lol the way they stick all the icons on the home screen is very iPhone (I have to use one of them for work and I hate it).
I deleted a few apps, like the facebook/twitter/instagram stuff that I prefer to use the browser for because I don't need a notification pushed to me every time somebody posts on any of them. I also got rid of some of the Huawei stuff but it only took ten minutes of checking things out and deciding I didn't want them. It may be that Three didn't want as much as some other providers on the phone, I don't know.
Re lag, I've not noticed any, the phone seems more responsive (so it should) than my Oneplus2. I'll miss not being able to change the led notification colour and I want to use a different launcher but can't get it to stick. NFC is good, battery seems very good so far and the camera of course is great.
Nova launcher is definitely the way to go with emui. Solves the majority of issues for me with regards to look and feel.
I prefer ADW myself but it looks like I might have to upgrade to v2
I couldn't get Nova Launcher to work for me. It installed alright, but it wouldn't stay up. What steps did you take?
Go into Settings, then Apps, the hit the Settings tab at the bottom, then Default App Settings and then Launcher to choose which one to use.
Thankfully you only have to do it once...
Hey Folks
Has there been an OTA for the UK yet... Ive just unboxed my P10+.. and its on B120 (March 2017) but theres no OTA or anything on HiSuite.
So whats the C432 B130 EU rom i keep seeing online
Any Advice

Double tap on Mate 10 Pro

Hi there,
I've found this easy tweak to enable double tap to wake on Huawei/Honor devices.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-8/general/enable-double-tap-to-wake-t3312676
I loved this feature on my old G4, as it was not needed to pick up the phone from a desk, etc. Unfortunately, it seems Huawei does not give a f...k and adds and removes it randomly from its products lineup depending on the weather I guess.
The above instructions are really simple on a ROOTED device. Would any candid soul that already has a rooted mate 10, try to see if the feature is at least available in the system file? (super simple to do with a root explorer). My phone is not rooted, as I'd not like to void the warranty in case I return it since I'm not fully happy so far with this and other Huawei SW neglicencies.
Cheers.

You mean, the option shows up in the accessibility menu, but not possible to activate right?. Shame on Huawei.
WHICH FIRMWARE ARE YOU ON?. I'm on 142 on a EU hardware.
BTW, any other reliable 3rd party up or alternative to wake up the phone without picking it up or using the power button?

I'm on B145.
They include a lot of "features" for other Huawei phones, as they seem to use the same sources when they build. Many are non-functioning though.
Face unlock with pick-up to turn on screen works fine. Or just fp reader on the back
But it still requires lifting the phone or putting your finger on the back.

Right. What a waste of such a great HW with such a poor software, lack of basic premium (?) features on a high end device.
Thanks anyway mate!

Am sure you are aware kernel must support double tap to wake in order for this switch to work, if u guys have a kernel that supports this... It will work else no way on earth that's happening
BTW, tried a few of those 3rd party apps where I managed to wake the phone up via the IR sensor from the AOD screen. But, this only works for a minute or so, if the AOD is on for longer, IR cannot wake it up.
Looks as if the app is put in a deep state or the sensor not accessible by it once the phone enters a deeper stand by (?).
All power saving crap option disabled. Wrote the developer but no response.
You guys, since you rooted it, would you know if the issue is still present when you freeze power genius via Titanium perhaps?

OpenKirin

Has anyone tried their ROMs?
As far as I know, the Honor Note 8 is based on the same Kirin 955 (Hi3650) platform as the:
Honor V8, P9, P9 Plus
and the Kirin 950s (also Hi3650) - Honor 8, Honor V8, Mate 8.
HN8 isn't listed as supported, and I imagine that's probably because it's a rare device outside China as it never launched internationally. Hopefully rather than some kind of strange hardware difference that SNAFUs everything.
The Android 8 / EMUI 8 kernel source is available at http://download-c1.huawei.com/downl...oadId=99970&version=425799&siteCode=worldwide so if it does need something added to make their ROMs compatible, is it possible that it's going to happen?
I bought one due to it being the very last of the big screen 16:9 devices. The camera I don't really care about, as I've decided the best solution is a big screen and big battery, and a Sony RX100 with Wifi / NFC / BT. Selling my P20 Pro as the screen's too small and narrow, and development has been killed stone dead due to the no more bootloader unlocks.
Anyway, can anyone shed some light?
I have not tried it, but i read some feedback from other people that have installed it on their Honor Note 8.
It works, but it is slower. Especially when scrolling, there is noticeable lag and it is not smooth compared to stock rom. I wish there was a better rom, but it seems stock is still the best.
I searched the threads and couldn't find any mention. Do you remember where or when? It may be that optimisation for the 955 has been improved significantly since then. Though I suppose by the same token it could be total lack of HN8 optimisation that's the issue.
I haven't uninstalled the stock system apps and Google Play Services framework yet, but I have disabled them all, revoked all permissions and installed lightweight alternatives. It's a lot better, but still quite a way off LOS / AOSP based ROMs that I'm used to. General speed is decent, but there are quite frequent stutters and slow responses.
How does the latest versions of Kang compare? Much quicker?
Have the updates (application only) past B528 sped things up significantly? Chinese forums seem to indicate that B533 or later will go full release in the next week or two.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-note-8/how-to/huawei-honor-note-8-t3457185/post77410169
Thanks. Dunno why search function didn't pick that up ... I'm not very keen on its implementation on XDA forums.
Anyway, sounds positive. If official HN8 and Hi3650 support came only with the last (August) update, then I think there's considerable hope for improvement.
AOSP / LOS / RR really should be a lot faster and smoother than EMUI 8 for HN8 in its stock form ... there's so much crap on it, and some of the stock apps are really bulky.
On that note, I'd strongly recommend that anyone who's on stock disables and revokes permissions from the Huawei Gallery app and installs an open, lightweight alternative. I'm using the Gallery from Simple Tools and have it set as default. Massive improvement in speed and lack of lag. The Huawei one slows things down seemingly even when open in the app drawer but not focused.
i tried it ... issue is mainly, that only sim slot 2 works - which also serves as sdcard-slot for me a no-go but if you don't use an sdcard, try it out.
Also, camera didn't work at all
Going to wait until the next OK release of LOS / RR.
https://openkirin.net/download/
New Resurrection Remix version is out, including network switch fix and screen tearing fix (the scrolling performance issue) on Hi3650 (HN8 is Hi3650) devices.
Assume new LOS version will be forthcoming very soon too.
Will probably wait for that, but if anyone tries the RR, do post your experience. Particularly those who've tried the much better (than 528) 535 stock.
Notes:
fixed in-call mute (Thanks to Flex1911)
fixed ussd codes (Thanks to Flex1911)
fixed network switch on hi3650 based devices
added the option to disable fast charging (Settings -> About -> OpenKirin)
september 2018 security patches
based on final rr 6.2.0 sources
REUPLOAD: fixed screen tearing on hi3650
Have you tried this new version?
Is the problem with sim and with camera solved?
Hi guys
I flashed RROS and OmniROM yesterday. Quite fluid experience, camera works.
Sim1 still not working (my main focus)
If you don't use an SD card, try it out, i think it will be fun
I would really like to use it but I need the SD!
However I'm glad the camera works.
I hope that in the future the problem of the sim will be solved too.
Really!
Let's see what the new version of LOS brings when that's released. Usually it's a bit ahead of the RR build (which got released first this time).
Also, for those of you who are reporting non-functionality of certain features, or bugs, you should report it to the devs on their Telegram Channel. Remember to specify the device.
https://t.me/joinchat/HUf8EE2ekfdnT7fum5PE0w
Deep Sleep appears to be broken on Hi3650 and Hi3660 on all the ROMs. They're looking into the issue.

Why are you downgrading back to Oreo 8.1? Official pie issues thread

As the title says. What are your reasons for not liking pie and going back or wanting to go back to Oreo?

Very buggy! Big icons look like they are for blind people, who can’t find there apps! No call recording, themes don’t work! i found it so dull maybe in 6 months when it comes more stable and compatible with Good lock and the bugs are ironed out I might upgrade..
Also I only used for less the 2 days, I’m sure there was some more issues but I hated it. Oreo Rocks! Well that's my 2 cent!!

Thanks for chiming in.
Yay...another Pie impressions thread.
I am also thinking about reverting to Oreo. After all I was fine with it. Especially now that Pie brings me the "broken" split screen (not Sammy fault but anyway), bad UI design like rounded corners and ugly icons, Good Lock still not working, other apps not supported (some themes and such). But I also know that Oreo will not be updated at all, and there may be other features that I'd miss. I want to live with my time, not refuse the future of our phones. So maybe I'll get used to... but that's been a month and nothing has really changed and I'm kind of getting tired of this.
Maybe I would revert to Oreo and then try out Pie later this year, when things appears to get better. I don't know. Does anyone else feels like downgrading too, or already did? Do you miss some Pie features (lift to wake, rotate on-demand, AOD features, night mode...)?

just flashed official yesterday but have been on Pie beta 2 for some time. I dont find it to be all that bad. I have heard of BT issues but have not had a chance to really test it out yet. That will be tomorrow. As of now i see no reason to move backwards.
I've been on Pie since Official, and haven't looked back!

Downgraded about a month ago never looked back or front however you want to put it!
Night mode it’s just a theme lol AOD had a bug or two your contact info or something like that wasn’t being shown! Alos just turn on blue light for night mode its easy on the eyes!
Tons of people have downgraded! ONE UI PIE 9 has been so rushed, it's like Samsung just make sure main things work and leave the actual stuff that us end user need to last or don’t even work..
i don’t think I’ll ever upgrade to ONE UI PIE 9 on the NOTE 9! I’m going to keep it on Oreo 8.1 and just get a NOTE 10 X for whatever o.s out then!
Note 9 runs awesomely on Oreo 8.1 what’s the point of upgrading ?
Constant bluetooth issues with my car caused me to downgrade, I agree ONE UI seems very rushed.,
Bluetooth issues between my car, actual phone and Galaxy watch - call coming in only on watch, unable to transfer to phone
Missing video recording button in camera app, now you have to swipe to video mode to be able to record, I don't know why I have to do 2 steps
Missing floating button in camera app - previously you could put recording button anywhere on the screen - useful for one handed recording
No extra volume when making a call over the ear speaker - my biggest issue, don't know why they removed it, the sound was terrible even before
No call recordings - need that for my work
and last issue - gay icons, or like circus paintings icons, the over saturated colors and nonexplanatory icons, common Samsung, this is a business people phone, can you do better than this?
I am very sorry I updated, already downloading Oreo 8.1 and will work on downgrade tomorrow. Very disappointment with this build.
Well, currently downgrading... Did all needed backups, now flashing ARL3 back, and getting ready to reinstall and reconfigure everything... for the better I hope *sigh*
Why would anyone go back to Oreo lol , you will not get OTA patches and fixes if decide to stay on Oreo , it's everybody own decision what you want to do with your phone but not a good idea to stay on a firmware that wont get support no longer, Just my 2 cent on this.

Well I prefer getting back features that I use often instead of OTA patches and fixes. I ran my previous phones on custom ROMs which didn't provide latest patches and I was very fine with it, because I had what I though was good for me And for now, in the state Pie is right now, I feel like Oreo is better for me. After a month on Pie, I don't enjoy using my phone as I did on Oreo, so I decided to revert

Personally I didn't encountered any issues, my beef is with the aesthetics, seems to me that they rushed it out, the GUI is horrendous, even adjusting the DPI in the screen settings leaves us with a big and unpolished interface, icons, notification bar and everything seems so over sized and tasteless.
Downgraded the next day, for now i'll stick to Oreo.

If you rely on using bluetooth hands free talking in the car, that is reason enough to downgrade. Bluetooth phone calls simply do not work for most people in the official Pie update (worked fine in 8.1). This is a very important safety feature, not to mention in some states you cannot hold and talk on the phone while driving. Wonder if someone who gets a ticket will try to have Samsung reimburse them...

Only reason I'm thinking about it is I miss having VoLTE. I have sprint and with oreo there was a work around to get it. Now the only half assed way to get it is to be on wifi calling then it'll work but only for that call

What are the OTA packages we need to disable in package disabler pro to stop the OTA's from installing?
Only because there is no Xposed or Substratum system themes yet (I like dark themes, not black themes).
